  1. Thanks for the reply Tom, Yes, a small amount of movement, with some pictures not moving at all would be great. I think someday Pic2Exe will have this built in. I am glad Tom that you have made this slide show helper, and look forward to your next revision :)

    Hi Dennis,

Sorry I did not see this message 2 days ago.

My random slideshow generator program is good at creating keypoints much faster than a human. It has no concept of subject matter so it does not know what is important to the viewer. A random slideshow generator program would never pass a "turing test" for slideshows. Anyone watching the slideshow more than a few slides would be able to tell it was not created by a human. I agree 100% with Lin and other advanced users that believe the user should learn how to create keypoints and manipulate objects but not everybody has the time or patience to create such a show.

You are correct that very small movement (what I call Ken Burns style) would be less obtrusive and could perhaps be implemented directly in PTE. Maybe set all slides to cover mode, 110% zoom, and 5% movement. Such a thing could be easily created with a template.

I will try to modify my random slideshow generator with a static zoom/pan setting (probably like a Photoshop action droplet, drag and drop with auto filename using date/time stamp). It is only a hobby that I program when the weather is bad and in the summer if not working, but winter is rapidly approaching here so chances are good that I can do this much.

  2. Hi:

A while back Tom made an add-on program, that allowed automatic pan/zoom for the pictures. I know that for the best results, it is good to set each picture manually. But, not everyone wants to do that. All I am looking for is a little movement in each picture. An auto pan zoom setting.

    Is this possible?

  3. I see. I use a very good graphic card on a desktop computer, hooked up to my 42 inch plasma. Very clear results using the HDTV as a monitor/viewer.

    Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

Yes I have a HD 42 inch TV. I subscribe to SKY and pay for the HD channels and the quality of high definition is stunning - much better than an exe file made with PTE. For this reason I am trying to better the exe quality by making a 'Blu Ray' disc.

  4. I see, but is your TV an HDTV? That really makes a big difference. I think an EXE played on HDTV is pretty hard to beat.

    Dennis

    Hello Dennis,

Yes I already play the normal .exe shows on TV and I also create normal DVD's via 'Videobuilder' and they are very good. However, I am just experimenting with HD so that I can determine if the quality will improve over and above .exe's when played via a 'Blu Ray' player.

  5. Hi: Love your software! You mentioned below that you have plans in the future for this imperfect video. I wonder if you are talking of a template? That would seem to me to be very close to the auto pan/zoom that some people want. Hopefully you will think about this as an option down the road.

Thanks, I like this option, too. And it is in our plans for next version(s).
  6. I would not want PTE to be delayed because of adding the auto pan/zoom option. But hopefully in the future, that option can be addressed. I would think that there are many people who could use this. Others who like to work on each picture manually, can do that also.

    Hi Dennis

I agree with the others - Igor and his team have already done a superb job so let's not delay the final with last minute enhancements. Perhaps your idea can be put into the pending tray for the next version!

I have been downloading the various templates recently produced by TheDom and it occurs to me that this may present you with a temporary solutiuon. If you could create a slideshow with as many slides as you are likely to require, apply all the pan/zoom effects you might want to that show and save it as a template. Then when you create a new show you simply substitute your new slides for those in the template. Just an idea!

  7. Earlier I thought that auto adding of Pan/Zoom are necessary thing. But after looking at result of such machine's work in described product I prefer not to have this function.

Excuse me, maybe you will not agree with me, it's my personal opinion only, of course! But I don't like applying of Pan/Zoom anywhere without creative idea when it really necessary and when exact moment requires this.

Manual work looks much better with light of true art, more live and viewers will appreciate your creative work.

I can understand the reason for not using auto for most people. I have an unusual time frame to make the shows. I have about 6 minutes. I cannot make a show with pan/zoom that fast, if I have to tune each of 150 pictures. I can see having an auto mode for people like us.

  8. Hi:

The Beta is working great. Thanks for a great program. Here is my question. When I make up a slideshow with many pictures, is there a way to make pan/zoom work automatically? I mean, instead of giving it a start point and end point, is there an auto mode? I can't find it if there is. I was thinking of random movement.

  9. Hi Alan:

You are looking for a new laptop right? All I can say is get what your budget will allow. The new wide screen laptops are nice. PTE doesn't need huge computing power, so you are able to have a lot of choices. Maybe someone could help and let him know if he needs a special laptop for DVI out. My laptop has a analog video out, but not a DVI. Do some have a digital video output?

    Good Luck!

  10. Hi:

I have been wishing to put the PTE slideshow to DVD, but in my workflow, I only have minutes to get one ready. I have been using PTE for a PC version, and a different software to make a SVCD for a DVD player. The SVCD takes about 8 minutes for 150 pictures.

Can any of you tell me that you can make a DVD in 8 minutes or less anf what software you use?

    Dennis

  11. I posted this a while back. The newer beta versions do not work right for me on my XP system. I have 5 MP3 pcs of music set up in PTE. Set to keep playing and random. When playing back the music stops and the slide show keeps going. I takes about 20 minutes for the music to stop.

If I use preview, the music keeps going. But if I burn a CD, and play this CD on another computer, it stops after a while. If I load up a older version of PTE with the same settings, its fine. Figure that out.

  12. I would say that it stops after about 20 minutes, and that is about how much music I have in there. The sound is not synchronized. And I have it set to repeat. The show keeps going, but the music will stop after about 20 minutes. I went back to an older version, and all is fine again. :D
