  1. ========================

    Greetings Deepak,

I have had the pleasure of watching both Sightsavers 1 & 2. You are telling a super great story. Much appreciated and wonderful photography. These are the kind of shows that make an impact.

    Thanks... Gary

Thanks Gary, Glad you liked the presentations, Sightsavers do great work in India, it was a pleasure to work with them.

    Regards, Derek

  2. Mickp,

Thanks, I have worked for several charities in India, it allows me the opportunity to visit small towns and villages that I would not normally get a chance to see. I have also made friends with many of the Indian staff, I hope to visit later this year and perhaps do more work for Sightsavers. Thanks for your appreciation.

    Regards, Derek

  3. What a wonderful story you have told, without words just beautiful photography combined with great A/v skills and appropriate music. Just brilliant.

Mickp, Thanks, glad you liked it, Sightsavers do great work throughout India, I have other presentations from their work in Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, will post when I can.

    Regards, Derek

  4. Hello Derek,

    Another good show thank you.

So much history, so many jobs lost.

The music fitted well (was it Jimmy Nail?).

I really liked the photography and I especially liked the silhouettes and in particular the last slide/photograph was brilliant and the fade out perfectly chosen to end a really good show.

The size of some of those rigs to take away cranes etc are amazing, quite a feat to dismantle the yard I would imagine.

Thank you for posting as ever

    regards

    Ralph

    Ralph,

Yes, the song is Big River by Jimmy Nail - repeated to make it long enough, did you spot the join? It was a great job working with the blokes that did the dismantling, loved it, a good excuse to climb all over the cranes! I enjoy working in heavy industry, have had a few jobs working at coal power stations in India (a couple in the portraits presentation) One of the shots won me the Ilford Industrial Photographer of The Year Award in the early 90's, see attached, if I can do it!. I have been to Bharati's new yard on the west coast of India but the iconic 180 ton red cranes have yet to be re-erected, must go back when they are.

There used to be hundreds of cranes on the Tyne, now there is just a handfull. At least the Swans cranes were put to good use rather than scrapped.

    Regards. Derek

  5. Dear PTE users,

My name is Prashant Khapane (from India, working in Germany for last 7 years as scientist) and photography is my hobby (mostly landscape). I created this show for last christmas and presented it at our organizations christmas party. This year am presenting it at Fotoclub in Göttingen.

Let me know how you find this. I'm not a big fan of effects.

  6. ================================

    Derek,

If I understand your question, I think I recently went through a similar bit of confusion. I wanted to make a replica of the same show, but with higher resolution images. Somehow, the first attempt did not work. But I found a few steps that works for me.

You can read my postings here:

    http://www.picturest...-old-shows-pte/

I was doing the opposite from your situation, so just reverse using the High Res and the Low Res images.

But here are the steps I used:

    -Make a New Folder

-Create a 'Backup In Zip' file (File/Create Backup In Zip) and save it to the New Folder.

-Extract the zipped files into the New Folder and do a 'Save As' to the New Folder (the File List should show the Low Res images-High Res in your case). The PTE show will run as it did in the previous location.

-Copy/Paste the High Res image (Low Res in your case) so they overwrite the Low Res images (High Res in your case) in the New Folder.

Dave made the suggestion to Create a Template (Files/Templates/Create Template From This Show). This will work, too, but I prefer my steps. I look at the Template process for creating basic defaults that I would want to use for new projects.

    Gary

    Gary,

Thanks for the explanation, I get it now. Must tidy up my photos and folders, they are all over the place. Putting all the selected photos in one folder and naming it appropriately helps! Have followed your instructions and it works well. Will post a more local presentation today.

    Cheers, Derek

  7. To change main images on slides you should use the Change Image File button. If you do not see one on your Toolbars, go into Settings > Preferences > Toolbars, find it and tick the check box.

To change the image associated with a secondary object on a slide, go into the Objects and Animation window, select the Properties tab, browse to the replacement image file and select it.

These two techniques change only the relevant image file, all the Animation programming and the Transition programming remain as they were.

    regards,

    Peter

Thanks Peter, I understand the process now. Easy when you know what you are doing.

  8. Apparently I 'cannot start a new topic' in the frequently asked questions and How To section so I'll post it here.

I am trying to create a smaller presentation (to post on the forum) without altering my original larger one. Have copied the original photos to a new folder and reduced them in size, saved the original presentation with another name, opened it then tried to replace the photos with the smaller ones. When I do this I lose all my original zooms/pans etc. Is there any way of substituting the photos while still keeping all the original settings? - or am I thicker than I think !! The layout of this forum is enough to confuse me!

    Thanks, Derek

  9. Hi Derek,

As Mick said, there are some great photo's and I so hope I make it to India someday soon.

    Keep posting your shows please

    regards

    ralph

    Ralph,

Thanks again for your kind comment. As well as India there are also a few from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Burma. I am trying to put up another presentation but having trouble making a copy with smaller sized pictures while still keeping the original (larger) presentation. Will post a question on the forum.

    Regards, Derek

  10. WOW! My son and daughter-in-law are off to India in a couple of weeks, I hope they come back with a couple of shots up to this standard. Great show, thanks for sharing.

    Mickp,

Thanks for your comment. Trying to put another presentation up but I am having trouble reducing it in size as a copy while still keeping the original larger file, will post a question on the forum.

  11. Fantastic show, Deepak, and your photography is first class. Hugely interesting images, putting the viewer right into the scene. I felt I was actually there, could almost hear and feel the ambiance, the atmosphere. Nothing short of dramatic photography!

I know exotic places lend themselves to exotic photography, and I have been to a few exotic places as well - but I have never imagined or gotten anywhere near your expertise with a camera.

I agree with the comments about zooming, but that is simply a matter of technique with PTE that you will pick up easily, I should think.

    My overall impression? BRAVO!!!

    cjdnzl

Thanks for your comments. Have just posted another presentation - no zooms this time!!

    Derek

  12. Excellent photography and very apt choice of music.

When a sequence is not telling a specific story, the aim should be to have the images moving in harmony with the music. I found that the abrupt "stop" on each of your zooms broke the flow of your sequence. To elaborate on Mick's comment about your use of zoom: a zoom should have a purpose. Usually it is done to go from a strong image to an even stronger image (think of it as cropping but done dynamically). It can also be used to emphasise which part of the image the narrator is talking about in sequences that have voice over.

I felt that one image jarred against all the rest (maybe that is what you intended); and that was the image of the shop mannequins. All the other images of "people" were of real people.

One final point... There was just a suggestion of a "false ending". As you neared the end of the sequence you introduced some lovely sunset shots. OK, they may have been sunrises but coming towards the end of the sequence they felt like sunsets; and it felt like the show was closing off beautifully. Then you went back to some brighter shots before returning to your final "sun behind flag" image. Again the flow had been broken.

For a first attempt this is very commendable, indeed.

    regards,

    Peter

    Peter,

Thanks for your comments, I agree the use of zoom is somewhat overdone and sequence of shots needs more attention. Thanks for taking the time.

    Regards, Derek

  13. A really enjoyable show giving a good insight into life in India and that is the main point. Very good photography and choice of music, and for your first show you really have got to grips with PTE. Some points that I can pick out and these things are very much a matter of personal taste:- 1) Perhaps a little long 2) Too many zooms, some were for a good reason but others were not I thought 3)With the zooms, I like to fade them into the next slide before the movement has stopped. I think this gives a much smoother effect. Hopefully you will get some more constructive cooments and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

    Mickp,

Thanks for taking a look, I appreciate your comments, all taken on board.

    Regards, Deepak

  14. The River Tyne comes off the North Sea into Newcastle (Upon Tyne). There are two sets of pictures in this show, some taken on a camera club trip in June 2008 & the bulk on a return visit in December 2008. I couldn't find the earlier originals so I have had to make do. It's just a bog standard show, with some dodgy animation (still trying), for some reason it's gone over my aim of producing shows up to 50MB. I think this will be the last for a while as I've run out of subject matter. I have done another which was a short show of a PCC visit to look at a Church in Windermere, but didn't think anyone would be interested as it's a bit personal.

Mechanics. 69MB Mediafire download, 83 slides, 9m 22s run time, 16-9 aspect ratio, slides sized at 1920x1080, fixed. Info bar disabled, keyboard enabled. 4 music tracks, voice over, sound effects, compiled with Audacity. One notable feature for those who download, in the first few shots the is a picture of a shop front, pause it at full animation & read the signs :P/> . Camera D200, lens 18-200 both Nikon.

    Yachtsman1.

    Dear Yachtsman 1

Just viewed your Fog on the Tyne presentation, excellent. I am from Newcastle so it is all very familiar. I have just started using PTE and have come accross a few problems so may have some questions for you as I go along. Thanks again, Deepak
