  1. Good Morning from Pennsylvania,

It has been a long time since I have done a slideshow and find that I need to get some help.

I Can anyone tell me if the version 10 help files exist and if so where they are located?

I am not quite ready to switch over to version 11 at this time.

    Thank You,

    Steven/kc3dow

I have to agree with Barry here.

I have heard and seen folks getting hit with malware and ransomware same as everyone else. It is still a matter of what you click on and where you surf.

As for the comment "Oh, you can always roll back" witness what Barry went through. Go to any forum that has a PC forum on it and see how many rollbacks there are that did not work correctly.

I have good security software as well as a good malware program protecting my computer. Remember, Common sense rules.

I back up every day using Macrium Reflect to a drive that is disconnected from my computer after the backup. Does that make me safe?

Not really! Suppose the ransomware or whatever is on your computer when you backed it up then you need to use that backup image. Still I'm safer then those who don't backup.

My point is there is no need for an upgrade unless you have problems. Security updates are still coming for win 7 and even there you need to be sure of what you download from Microsoft. I check out every download from them before I allow it on my machine. You would be surprised at the garbage they try to foster on you.

  3. So far I have not heard one valid reason to upgrade to Windows 10 from Win 7 pro. As far as security I have been installing security updates as they come.

PTE runs excellent on my system as well as Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC, DxO optics pro 9, Affinity designer Beta for windows, Fast raw viewer, several Amateur Radio Programs, all of my web design programs all run as advertised

By the time win 7 is no longer supported in 3 1/2 years I will be ready to upgrade my computer and then I'll get Win 10 along with it.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it and Windows 7 pro is not broken by a long shot.

If you are having problems with Win 7 then by all means a person should upgrade.

  4. Steven,

Thanks for the comment on searching the Help File.

Using this facility always depends on the search term used and in this case the word "trimming" had not been used anywhere in the Help File but if you had searched on "trim" you would have found it.

I have added the phrase "Trimming Video" for future searches.

    DG

    Dave,

The reason I added the longer word for "trim" is a habit I got into when using search terms when in the forums. I remembered that short words did not work.

I recently up-dated video editing using PTE & added a short tutorial on YouTube. See

    Regards Eric

    Yachtsman1.

    Eric,

Thanks for the video. Good job.

I muddled my way through it before seeing your reply and it seemed to work but your tutorial will help with the next 5 videos that I need to convert and trim. Thanks.

    Steven

  5. Hi Lin,

Thank you for getting the cob webs out of my head. I used to do this back in the version 7 days but completely forgot about it.

I did go into the help files but got no results when I typed "trimming videos" into the search field but after your reply I went back and found the section on adding videos whic included information on adding, trimming, and converting.

    Thanks again for the reminder.

  6. Hello,

I have recently started to get back into making slide shows after a very busy several months, I have missed it.

I have run into a strange problem and am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong.

I made a show which included an avi file from a couple of Canon compact cameras done 4 or 5 years ago and have had no problems.

I then decided to add several other avi files but wanted to trim several minutes off of each one.

I used Cyberlinks Power Director 12 to do the trimming then saved as an avi. When I go to my image file for PTE I find that the file shows the file name but not the image of the thumbnail and I am unable to select it.

I then downloaded and installed Virtual Dub and ended up with the same problem. Same thing with 2 other video editing programs.

Funny thing though is I have 3 video players: VLC, Windows Media Player, and MPC-HC and they all show the thumbnail image and play the file.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    My Computer:

    Operating System
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
    CPU
    Intel Core i5 4570 @ 3.20GHz
    Haswell 22nm Technology
    RAM
    16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz (11-11-11-28)
    Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z87-A (SOCKET 1150)
    Graphics
    PA249 (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (ASUStek Computer Inc)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (EVGA)
    Realtek High Definition Audio

    PTE version 8.0.10

    Thank You,

  7. Hi,

I finally joined the ranks of retiring my old 7 year old XP box and wow! what a difference it makes. Specs below:

    Asus Z87-A Motherboard

    Intel Core i5 4570 3.2GHz Quad Core 6MB 84W

    2 x Kingston DDR3-1600 8GB RAM

EVGA Geforce GTX 650 1GB Video Card

    Intel 335 240GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5inch SSD hard drive

Western Digital Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s hard drive

Asus 24x DVD-RW SATA CD / DVD Rom

    Atech PRO-35U USB 2.0 Internal/External Card Reader

    Onboard Sound

Silverstone USB 3.0 PCI-Express card controllers

Antec P183 V3 (Gunmetal Finish) case

Antec TruePower New Series 650W Power Supply

Cooler Master Hyper TX3 CPU Cooler

Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound Upgrade

    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM SP1

Warranty: Lifetime Labor and Tech Support, 1 Year Parts

I decided that I did not want to build this one but have it built and used a company that I knew had an excellent reputation, not only was I able to check what step the computer was in regarding the build process but they went so far as to send me thermographic images that they take while the computer is at idle and under stress. They use the images to reposition the fans if required. They also sent me copies of all the bios screens in case I need to redo the bios in the future. All junk was removed from the drives before sending the computer to me. I don't think I have been happier with a computer store then this one.

As a test I opened firefox, thunderbird, photoshop CS5 with 5 large jpeg files loaded as well as 5 raw files from my Pentax K10D 10 megapixel camera, Photoshop Bridge with 12 photos selected, PTE, version 8.1 with an old 125 MB show loaded, Photo Director 12 with 4 reels of 8mm video loaded. I then inserted a thumb drive with PTE-Effects exe double clicked and the computer never even gave an indication that it was under a load.

I am really going to enjoy working with PTE.

    Regards,

    Steven

  8. There is another thread regarding audio in slide shows in the same forum HERE. I know because I replied to it by mistake instead of the other thread as they were running 1 after the other at the time.

I do not feel confident in answering this one as I do not know enough about using version 8, although I am going through Barry's tutorial and upgraded to version 8 last week.

I feel as though I am starting from scratch because it has been a tough time between June and October having lost my younger brother and then my wife lost her mom in Oct.

I kind of lost the thrill of photography and slide shows for awhile but am just getting back into it.

Anyway, thanks to Barry's CD and version 8 I am learning all over again but feel that we as PTE users need to stay on top of the questions about slide programs from other forums if we truly believe that PTE is the cats meow as it were laugh.gif/>(and I think most of us do).

  9. The final animation will be for 10 chars (instead of 2 in this demo).

But I'm afraid it will be very jerky with older PC...

    Hi Dom,

My system is not the greatest either but it runs very smoothly for me.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.00GHz

    2GB Ram

    256MB GeForce 7300 GS (EVGA)

    Win XP Pro

  10. I remember a Tutorial by Lin some time ago where he used Xara Xtreme 4 to create a 3d tutorial for PTE.

I ran across this the other day in Dpreview's retouching forum that Xara was giving away Xara Xtreme 5 until May 20th to introduce folks to their software.

I downloaded installed and registered the product without much fuss and even though it is an older version it is very good.

The deal is only good until may 20th and as far as I can see there are no strings attached.

  11. I think that with "Rose Cross" you means, to put all the images one on top of the othes (my house has 19) and then arrange one by one in the correct order, pan, zoom, 3D rotations, opacity, etc. I did that.

    Manuel Urdaneta

That was a lot of work but the end result was sure worth it.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Steven

  12. Manuel,

Very impressive! You have inspired me to get off my seat and do much more experimenting then I have been with PTE.

I also noticed that you are using the "Rose Cross" method to make the initial cube.

May I ask what the "Rose Cross" method is? I was not aware that there were several methods for designing the cube. Not only that but how could you tell from watching the execute file that a different method was used. Just asking out of my natural curiosity, if it is a trade secret I would understand.

  13. Hello Dave,

I want to thank you for doing this for those of us who have old players or to make shows for others who have old players.

Although you had told me how to do this on a previous thread I have just gotten around to experimenting with this procedure now.

It was an unqualified success! Again, thank you.

I found that using the 92% works best for me on three different TV's and so will stick with that when saving to DVD.

It does slow things down somewhat because I need to put the parent jpg file in for the amount of pictures I want to use then go to the O&A to insert each picture for the child as opposed to selecting all of the images I want to use then dragging them into the time line but the end result is better for HDTV. I think that I will use the old method when I know that I am only going to make an execute file.

While I found that 92% works I may play around with 93 or 94% next time just to see if it will work.

    Thanks again,

    Steven

  14. Steven,

    Here is the promised Template.

I have added a "Black BG" JPEG to act as a MAIN IMAGE (Parent Image).

If you unzip this and open it, all you have to do is go to Project Options and set the "% of main Image" to 90-92% before you begin the Burn to DVD process (click on "Apply to All Slides") - I think that you will find that it works. On my TV the 92% figure is just about perfect.

    Try it as a test?

Thank You Dave. I will do a few tests tomorrow.

Thanks to all who gave me ideas to work on.

I could see that your second slide does not include your picture "School_0280.jpg". Instead, in "Customize Slide", you put it under "Tiled background picture". Any reason?

    Dave Wrote:

Your School image is not a true 16:9 image

I do not remember making these errors. I do remember spending a while with the original image in photoshop as there were a number of people in front of the school that needed to be removed in order to get the effect that I wanted. I believe the size problem came about when I noticed that the perspective needed to be corrected and I should have double checked to see if resizing was needed.

Dave - I am pretty sure I understand what you are suggesting and will study the template you send to confirm.

    Thanks,

project, in this case, you will have more than one page and the suitable buttons will appear on the

    menu.

The next two buttons Redo/Undo give you an opportunity to make some changes, if you want to

    correct something in your menu.

Nearby Redo/Undo buttons you can see the Scale button, with the help of which you can change

the size of the preview window, if you want to customize it and you need another scale. The

default is Auto. But you may select from 10% to 500% of the screen.

As you can see from the figure below, the preview window is surrounded by dark rectangle, which

    shows safe TV zone.

In the first picture you can see this rectange which determines the zone you won`t see on your TV.

In the second picture you can`t see this zone, you just see the whole picture on you monitor. It is

recommended to show TV safe zone, because it is more convenient to adjust your menu watching

this zone. But if you want to switch this option off for some reason, then you should right-click on

the menu and the following box will be opened.

This dialog box is the same as Edit menu of this window. So

you have two ways of opening it: by right-clicking on the

preview window and by clicking on the Edit menu in the left

upper corner of the main window.

You can see several options here, almost all of them have

    been described already.

Apply changes for each page is the option, which helps

you to make all changes very quickly. If you have more than

one project and more than one page in the menu and you

have done some changes on the first or second page, for

example, you can click on this option and these changes will

    be applied for all pages.

After adjusting this window, press the button Next to go to the next step.

When clicking, the following window for burning the disc will be opened.

First you can enter the name of your project. In our example the project is untitled, but in

your project you can click on this word and enter any name you wish.

If you wish you can create MPEG2 Files, DVD Folders and an ISO image of your project.

Check the boxes and just choose the folders for them on your computer.

In Burn DVD disc option the device and the speed of burning is determined

    Hello Ken,

The above instructions are for creating a menu in video builder. I know how to publish a show but I do not make menus (yet) because each show that I have been making is just a single show, I.E. one show on one DVD. This is because most of the shows have been for my wife's family or an special show (see the attached zip).

I was under the impression that I could scale the show TV safe zone in PTE

    Steven

  17. Steven,

You can "Show TV Safe Zone" by clicking on the option in Preferences > Editor.

Go to O&A and make sure that your project then fits inside the Blue area. Project Options > Defaults > % of slide to show full image will adjust the image if required.

The effect of this will depend on your DVD Player and whether it is Upscaling or not. You need to get the Spec for the DVD Player?

Could you post a single image Template or Backup in Zip so that we can see your setup???

    DG

    Hi Dave,

I think I did this correctly so attached is images with 2 blanks and frame included. I removed the music and rest of images.
