  1. By the way, you are certainly prompt is making all the shows available.  Good work.  I was also toying with the idea of putting all the shows on a DVD and watching on TV, but unless someone here has an "easy" way to do it,

    I'll let it rest.

I'm half way there on it. I have the .pt files from everyone and all I need to do is get 2 photodex shows and one MMB & Xat show in raw form or an mpeg and I can combine all the shows for eveyone to burn to DVD.

    How about those apples!

  2. Thought you all would like to see what happens when people that use another brand of slideshow software that just makes avi's or mpeg's react when they encounter a P2E exe show. I think it scared them so much they forgot to comment on the shows!

(Below are comments back to me from another forum I posted a link to come visit our gallery of shows)

    Since you're here...

How about a 'note' telling folks what kind of file they're downloading. Once I got into the zip files, I found an .exe sitting there!!!

Since my Mama always told me not to trust any exe file I don't know about, it had me

Figured it might be a self-extracting file of some kind, but...

Finally was a brave sole and disregarded my Mom's best advice and opened the exe file...

Anyway, a few 'words' describing the zip file contents (stand-alone video player... or whatever) would help (I think)

Same thing happened to me. It's like my heart stops every time I see ANYTHING on the web with a .exe file extension INSIDE of a Zip file.

But, I scanned it with Norton AntiVirus and it said it was clean, so I crossed my fingers, dotted my i's and ran it. Then the whole screen gets taken over and I about had a second heart attack. Luckily, it was just a full-screen slideshow <whew>.

This kind of thing CAN scare a lot of knowledgable (computer-wise) folks off, unless they are told up-front what to expect inside the Zip files. So, I agree with Mark.

  3. Our winter show competition entry will close tommorrow at midnight (GMT-7). But there's still time for you to drop everything and submit an entry! (lol) I'm laughing at my statement but that's what I'll be tring to do tomorrow for my non-compete entry.

But more importantly and the reason for this thread is that in order to vote (and view) the entries you must register (it's free) at CSS by the same cutoff date. We have some great entries that you'll enjoy viewing and the contestants certainly look forward to your comments and participation in judging there entries.

    Cheers,

Hi I'm desert dave and I approved this message.

(This is a US political joke)

  4. Hmm, I couldn't register at all - it wouldn't accept the "registration code" I typed in (about 10 different ones as it changes each time). It also forces you to put in a birthday - seems to reason for force that so I object. I'd like to participate and see the site but it doesn't look good thus far...

They are real picky and must be in correct case and on some sites maybe even ours you can barely read them. I never did like those stupid "registration code" thingies anyway and have deleted it from our registration. Please try again and I look forward to seeing you there. If you have any other problems please email me at dave@creatingslideshows.com.

  5. PicturesToExe supports only AVI video codecs. It doesn't support DirectShow codecs.

But all AVI codecs are supported. MPEG-4, MJPEG, DivX, XVID, etc.

OK, I'm in the same boat as Granot and I don't see the answer here. Igor says mpeg4 is supported, but I don't see it and can't output anything except PtoE codex. On the 12 others listed I get the same error as Granot on some or the rest start but after 5mins or so there still hanging at about 1% rendered so I give up and cancel out (PtoE is done in a minute).

I'm trying to build a Quick Time movie so mac users can view it and Quick Time gives me a input/output error trying to input the PtoE codex. So I open my Sony program and import the PtoE codex avi and render it as an mpeg2 then I can import it to Quick Time.

What part of the picture am I missing here?

  7. Hi Dave,

It's a Love/Hate relationship I have with our gallery downloads. Normally it's a click once to get a download on most sites like Beechbrook. But here's how the progression goes and reasoning on ours.

1st click on the image(show) to download takes you to a page that shows the 1st image again but as time goes on will also show all the shows this person has done and added. which is good if you want to find all there's in one place.

2nd click takes you to another page with the show you chose and here you can get more info on the artist like email and web address. It is also where you can leave comments on the show and rate it. Very good...if we can get people to come back and do that part, which they should.

    3rd click is your download.

On the shows that say view now, these will play from our site. The are photodex shows and you can view them after you install(which your prompted for) a viewer from them.

I have also asked our resident flash guru to see if there is a way to get PtoE shows to be made into a flash show at (before) the time when you make an avi for burning DvD's. Flash can do this with the avi, but for good quality the files are huge.

But I think this would be a good option for the show(PtoE) to convert to flash as an option the with avi choices. I'm not a programmer so maybe someone on the forum knows if this can be done. I would think the files would be a lot smaller if the show could be loaded into flash before the avi processing.

Anyway thanks for stopping by and If you have any future questions just leave a post on the site.

    Cheers,

    desert dave

  8. Gérard,

Thank you for sharing that info. Peter definetly knows how to think outside the box! I watched two other shows and the were pertty much run of the mill and what I expected to see, but your right, Peter's got it hands down.

I've sold myself on doing it in a Snowy Winter/Christmas theme. So I'd like to ask all the member's here to check there files and if you have any super duper images for the competiton please upload them on our site.

    It's at

    Gallery

Looks like it should be some real fun.

    Thanks again,

    dave

  9. I'd let evryone use there own music, restricting that would stiffle it too much.

I was thinking 30+/- images. But I guess 15-20 would be more than enough to let people get enough effects in it. And it's slated to start 12/1 so I don't want to lose people busy with the holiday season to spend a lot of time on it.

Maybe we ought to do a Christmas theme and then allow people to download the winning exe files. That way everyone could add some of their own xmas images to the show after the holidays and have a real cool show for themselves. (Already assuming we'll get a P2E winner and you guy's won't have to go out and buy another program like pro show). But I guess you could pop the images and music out and use them in any show.

Starting to sound like a better game plan the more I think about it.

  10. Hi guys,

I'm going to do a slideshow competition at the creatingslideshows.com site and would like your thoughts about doing it.

I'm plan to offer just one set of images that all contestants would use. Thinking it will be very interesting to see the difference in techniques people use to create their shows.

How many images do you think would be good amt to use for a competition?

I was thinking of an underwater theme since most of the shows we see are land based.

    Look forward to your comments,

    desert dave

  11. Thanks Severn,

You probably didn't get over to the gallery yet as I'm sure you're still recovering from the forum shock but you'll find that site more to your liking. Very clean and pristine.

Any of us Ancients (my favorite Al Robin term) that visit a phpBB2 plus forum the first time usually do get blown away. It comes at you with total information overload! And with that Solaris theme I used, it can... take you out of your chair.

But not to worry mate, just head over to your profile and on the style dropdown box change the theme to "BBlite" or "Zone Copper" Those themes are a bit less daunting.

I am just now completing everything and will most likely drop out some of the more useless mods like live stats to give it a cleaner look & feel.

    Enjoy!

  12. I am glad to announce the opening of a new web site, gallery & forum dedicated to creating slideshows outside the realm of the vendor forums. I believe it to be the first of it's kind attempted. The hope is to get all you good people from the various forums into one location that can consolidate your talents and knowledge for those interested in developing quality shows.

Please stop by and take a look around and let me what you think. I trust you'll find it a fine place to learn, teach, enjoy & frequent often.

  13. Thanks Bob, :P

I didn't want to settle for anything less than the biggest, badest, bestest!

But that was the easy part, now it takes people with your caliber talent to make it the best on the planet.

There are some other awesome links to the gallery coming in a couple of days, but I'll hold off saying more till then.

Speak w/ you soon....signing off from the valley of the sun!

  14. Hi Guys & Gals,

I have allocated about a gig of space for PtoE members to host there shows.

There's no change for it, but any small donation would be appreciated.

You can upload your show directly into your own album at:

http://www.creatingslideshows.com/coppermine/cpg132 (30 mb max file size).

If you want a thumbnail on the main page, let me know and I'll give you a ftp address to upload the show and thumb (120 x120) max.

You can catch me at; dave@creatingslideshows.com.

The site allows you to send out e-cards to announce your new presentation and has 30 languages built in with 10 themes.

    Cheers,

  15. This should be pretty cool. I've loaded a music server on the web for uploading and downloading music for slideshows. There's even a micro browser for listening on a PDA (I haven't tested to see if that works yet).

There are just a few songs I threw on there from the net so far, but the point of the server is to have everyone put a few good songs on it and wha la everyboby will have a good selection to chose from.

I should have it configured for immediate playback, after you upload, in a few more days. I'm configuring it to let you choose the specific directories like rock, jazz, wedding ect. to upload to. In the meantime I'll transfer your uploads over to the player a few times a day. There is also a connection to "all music", which you can load some free stuff from immediately.

As you know or should know, copyright and loyality fee'd music cannot be uploaded to public server's so make sure you keep us both out of trouble!

Link to the site is http://www.creatingslideshows.com/music.html

Enjoy, I look forward to your feedback.

    Cheers,

    desert dave B)

P.S. Keep your choices good as my server storage space is good but not bottomless.

  16. Thanks, Your right, I don't believe you could design it in FP. The original page was done in PS. From there we added a flash slideshow screen viewer (which is above and missing from the page your viewing). Then we open the whole mess in FP, where I can easily do my final butcher work.

It really looks awesome with the flash screen added. I hopefully will post a link to the site in about 10 days after I get the db resource page done and loaded with the catagories and some starting data.

    Desert Dave B)

  17. I've lost my mind, I've decided to create a web page that will reference every article, book, tutorial and technique on building slideshows ever done.

That wouldn't be bad if it was only PTE, but I'm going after everything plus all the PS related stuff.

I started the page and did a few entries to see what it looked like and quickly decided I would have to go to drop down menu's to keep the footprint on the single page. So I think I'll be able to tame the monster with that change.

But I'm not real familar with dbase applications and think I will also need to use one for this. I also want be able to drop the most current entries in on top fast and easy as I get them. Is just building a simple link list in excel enough? The other thing that comes to mind is I will have to load all the info on my website to be sure an external link doesn't die.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? You can view what I started at www.creativestoryboards.com/dbase.html

I would also appericate any links you have to start feeding this monster. To keep the congestion down here they can be emailed to me at imfinewine@cox.net.

    Cheers,

    Dave

  18. Very nicely done! Especially since some of us needed more inspiring wedding s/s.

I'm still currently an understudy to the wonderful transitions you and the other "Acients" (stealing an AlRobin saying) that do such magical effects.

I'm curious how long it takes you to do a show like these. I find myself unable to commit to what I originally do and end up redoing the show to the point of no return.

Keep um coming, there's a growing # of us that enjoy the wedding shows for fun and profit.

    Desert Dave

  19. This show is worth viewing for some of the great shots the photog did on it, if you're into weddings at all. Please enjoy at:www.delphiwebhosting.com/Kari_final_20.exe

Al, look for the garter shot, as promised..... as all of us "ancients" love. I would give it a playboy five star! I wish my show hit that level, but with your help........maybe.

Granot, I've given a window to June 5 to view. It beats the heck out of the 1st run, so please grab it this time.

As for doing the s/s I still have my doubts after redoing the damn thing at least 20 times, if I'm getting there. I've cut the trival photos but the things that still plague me are:

    1. I have incorporated some smaller pic slides to break up what I think tends to get a little boring in some s/s shows running basically the same size photos.

Problem will be they will not show well on TV. Q. Kill or keep?

2.I'm running about 2500 on most of the transitions. It seems good on about 1/2 but too fast many of them. Q. Slow some down?

    3. I changed all the backgrounds to black at the photog's request and 90% look better. But some slides with the men in black tux's fade into the background.

    Q. Add a grey background for these or does the black pic to black background fade actually look pretty cool.

    4. Love to hear anything else to made it better.

P.S. Music runs about 30 secs long on the last slide, I haven't gotten the ending credits needed.

    Thanks,

    Dave
