I have EXE presentations made using earlier versions PtoE, I no longer have the original project files or the earlier version of the program.
I now want to try to covert these to MP4 but I am unaware of any program which can do this
I had a thought that I could create a new project and use the ExE file in that project to then enable me to publish the project as an MP4. I initially tried creating a blank slide, including a button which would then run the EXE file. This works if I just create another Exe, but not an MP4.
Then I tried the option of using my blank slide to 'run an external application', but again this only works when creating an exe.
Is there someway that I can effectively embed the exe file within the new project and for it to enable me to then create an MP4 ?
Or has anyone else come up with a solution to convert older EXE files to MP4 other than using screen capture ?
I am currently using v9.0.22

When I open PTE Deluxe 9.0.14 I receive an error message on screen saying
'Access violation at address 0075A6B4 in module 'Picture to Exe'. Read address 00000000'
The program opens and the only issue I have is that I can't fully move about the folders or drives where I store my images.
If a try to move from C: drive to D: drive on the folder tree, or simply click on another folder, the pane next to it does not change and stays in the original folder.
I can move up or down in the folder structure in that pane but can't change drives
If I then close down the program and reopen, it opens at the folder which I had previously tried to choose and I can now see the images in that folder
Can anyone help ?

It wasn't a DVD player issue, I think. Original DVDs wouldn't play on either our Blueray DVD or our PC.
Thankfully sorted for me now

DVD was created from PTE file
Tried your suggestion and it seems to have done the trick
Thank you

In the past I have shared some of my shows, produced on earlier versions of Picture to Exe, by creating DVDs, but for the last couple of years have created mp4s.
I have just tried to publish a show on a DVD and while the video is fine, I have no audio.
I can publish as an mp4 and audio is fine.
I am running PTE Deluxe 8.0.22 on latest Window 10 update
Can anyone help ?

Where did you add the click, project options or to customise each individual slide, add sound??
Yachtsman1.
I added at each slide in the Music tab - as I have several slides at both start and end which have no camera sound
-
I am running 7.0
I have some music at the start of my show, which is presenting this year's camera club winners.
When the music stops, after the introduction, I want to add the sound of a camera click to each slide as it appears on the screen
I have unticked "synchronise Music" and ad have left unticked "Don't Interrupt ...."
On each slide I have added a camera click mp3 and can hear this when I play the clip in Customise.
Unfortunatley I don't hear it when I play the show - only silence.
I have tried ticking and unticking "Play New Background Music File" but no difference
Can someone help, please ?

These instructions apply to version 7.0. To set up a manually controlled show, you need first to ensure that "Wait for a Key press..." is ticked in Project Options...Control. You might also wish to have the Mouse Cursor set to "Show" so you can use it as your on-screen pointing device. Having "Permit Control Using Keyboard" active will allow you to use the Space Bar as a Pause/Resume toggle control. It will also allow the Left and Right cursor arrow keys to give you advance to the next slide and step-back to the previous slide. N.B. These are "absolute" slides i.e. if you are looking at slide 25, Left will take you back to slide 24 and Right will take you on to slide 26.
Your buttons will need programming with the Go to Slide With Name... action.
What you want to do can be done but will be time consuming to get it programmed correctly. Be warned, you can easily become lost in the maze which you are about to create. I've been there and done it. But it does give you tremendous flexibility of presentation options on the night. Go for it!

Thanks for that advice
I had wondered what those colour pickers were for, and searched in vain, but now I know
Very handy and will be put to use
Many THanks

There will be no indication that they are live - just click.

Now started to create my Street View presentation and following previous advice :
In Project OPtions - ticked "wait for for key press", ticked "permit control using keyboard", showing mouse cursor, with everything else unticked and "no action" on mouse buttons
Within each slide I currently have two buttons - named "forward"/"back" and in each there is an action - "go to Slide named *****".
Each slide is set to "wait for key press
Unfortunately when I try to run the presentation, these buttons do not appear to be "live" . They don't seem to activate when the mouse hovers over them.
What am I missing ?

Thank you both for the advice
By trial and error I had just about got there - but still not sure about using R/L mouse click to move back/forward in absolute terms - does this only work when you are NOT right clicking on a button ie does button action take precedence ?
I have also noticed another problem ( or should I say opportunity ?)
My transitions were all set to fade, but when I go to my chosen slide, it doesn't fade from my existing slide, but from the previous one in the slide list ie let's say I am slide 1 and the button action sends you to slide 4. the fade is not existing ( slide 1 ) to slide 4 but from slide 3 to slide 4.
I've changed to fast transition to avoid this, but any ideas ?
As regards the maze that I may be constructing, I am currently trying to work it out, and it is somewhat convoluted (understatment). I am sure that I'll get there, as long as I keep my hand against the left wall

Thanks Linn
I didn't know that you could do that - it's solved my problem

Thanks for the guidance
I have had a look at this new way of displaying slide durations and it does produce some oddities
eg I have my Project Options set at slide length 7 secs with 2 sec fade in.
If I import ONE slide the slide shows 7 secs and 2 secs and the timeline confirms this and the "show" lasts 7 seconds
If I import TWO slides they show the same 7 & 2 timings, but the timeline, in old terms, shows the first slide at 5&2 and the second at 7&2, and the total lenght of the show to be only 12secs. this reduction in the absolute length of the show continues as slides are added, ie the fade in to the next slide takes up some of the slides time allotment.
I find this very misleading, as one would have thought that setting a slide length on project options would be the basic start as to how long a show with a number of such slides would last.
Another oddity is when I import slides as noted above - if they come in originally at 7/2 the 2 slide show lasts 12 secs - if I then change the transition timing to 4secs I don't change the show length, so I now have 2 slides of 7 secs 4 secs transition. If however if I had brought the slides in initially with this setting sec ie 7/4 the show would only last 10 secs
As I say, very misleading
After all of that I'll re-read Igors notes, and be very wary of the numbers until I bcome more accustomed to this latest version
Thanks for your advice

Thank you for the advice
I had previously done something like this, however this requires you to predefine the aspect ratio of the window, although I did set up several mattes with differnet aspect ratios
My work round allows me to vary the aspect ratio as required, while working in the project, but would be even easier if it were possible to put a border on the inside of the mask.
Of course I am only talking about unfeathered masks, as there would be little point when using a feather
Again thanks for the input. Having been reminded, I'll probably start to use this method again, as it really only takes seconds to produce a matte to the appropriate ratio, especially if you set up an action in photoshop

Now strating to use V7, and don't quite understand what is being shown in the boxees beside the slide and its transition when looking at slide view.
I have a series of slides which all show 9 seconds with a 3 second transition
This is confirmed when I go into each slide via "Customise Slide" and any changes made here are reflected when I go back to the slide view
When I look at the timeline, however, each slide appears to only last 6 seconds including the 3 second transition - and this is in actual fact the correct timing.
Am I misinterpreting these new numbers which we can see when on slide view ?

I like to put a border round the images within a slide, where the image does not fill the full screen.
Quite often within a presentation, I want to keep similar sizes of image, but to zoom or pan, within these images
I do this by using a mask which is the same aspect ratio as the as the other images - allowing me to zoom or pan while maintaining a fixed image size on the screen
But when doing this I don't seem to have the ability to put a border round the inside of the mask, to mantain a consistent look to the presentation.
My work round for this to date, has been to create a rectangle, filled same colour as border, sized to same aspect ratio, and then placed behind the mask, and zoomed until creates a "border"
Does anyone have a more elegant solution, since this adds yet another element to the O&A list which at times can get a bit busy ?

No longer an issue
Believe it or not, I simple changed the file name and the UAC pop-up is gone
So much for security - even if I didn't really want it in the first place
-
This isn't directly a PtoE issue, but has arisen when I have tried to run a show on my Camera Clubs laptop.
I copied a number of Exe files onto the club's laptop and they can be run without getting the User Account Control (UAC) prompt asking if it is OK to run the program ? All except one, which can only be run after dealing with the pop-up. This doesn't look particularly professional when we present a series of shows to external groups.
Has anyone experienced this before and know of a way to tell UAC that once I confirm that the Exe is OK it will remember this in future - my own Zone Alarm program control gives me this option

Thanks for the advice Lin
My own fault for being too lazy to gather together all of the images in the first place.
The Zip scenario arose when I zipped aproject internally a project and then unzipped on our camera club's laptop. This projuct did have files from different folders, largely sub-folders
All the files were in the unzipped folder, but when the PTE was opened the images were all "missing", and had a file name/path which had my own drive & folder structure
Before taking up any more of your time, I will try to recreate the problem and confirm exactly what I have done.
Then I will be able to let you know if (and it probably will be) operator error is the problem
Again, thanks

Thanks Jill. I was afraid that would be the answer. I've got the software that you mention and it works great. Unfortunately it records in real time and I've got 30+ Exes to convert and I was hoping for a short cut.
