  1. Tom,

    If I use F9 I don't seem to get the problem; if I use "Publish" I get it sometimes - it's intermittent.

    It is a very large show with 100+ 1620 by 1080 pixel images; the first show using this size image instead of 1024 by 682.

    Since this is a new version thought Igor might want to see this error,

    Yes, it's just this one show - the 40+ others made in earlier versions have been recompiled in v7 without any issues

  2. O.K. chaps, I've solved the problem but don't ask me how!

    I have been very careful throughout my testing to ensure that the date/time stamp of created .exes was updated.

    Tonight I deleted the .exe and recreated it - all went fine. So I went to my backup and brought back the exe from Tuesday and that ran correctly as well.

    I don't suppose I will ever get to the bottom of it - but many thanks to you all for your help and ideas.

    If somebody can come up with an answer ....

    Regards,

    Dave

  3. Just a thought on this, is it a "user error" brought about by not fully understanding the implications of the file associations between the .pte extension and the two versions of PTE that are installed?

    Although Windows will happily let you associate the same file extension with many programs, only one such association can be "the default association" that is used when you double-click on a file of that particular extension.

    Could it be that the default association is still with PTE v5.6.4 whereas the user thinks it is with PTE v6.0?

    As other posts in the past have proven, this can be a source of confusion for PTE users with multiple versions installed. I'll admit, it even catches me out occasionally if I don't concentrate on exactly what I'm doing!

    regards,

    Peter

    Peter the .pte file was opened from within v6.0

    Opening the .pte file is notepad shows

    CreationTool=PicturesToExe Deluxe 6.00

    PteVersion=6.00

    globalversion=1

    minorversion=15

    Regards,

    Dave

  4. I can confirm I was running v6.0. Did a bit more analysis and this is what I found:

    • A show created new in v6.0 has the correct startup screen,
      A show created in 5.6 that has never had a startup screen has the correct screen added, and
      A show created in earlier versions, had a startup screen that was removed in the earlier version exhibits the issue described above, which leaves me wondering if there is something slightly out of place in the .pte file

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Dave

  5. I've just installed v6.0, having not tried any of the betas. Opened a show created without a startup screen in 5.6.4. and it runs fine.

    Decided to add a startup screen, I went to Project Options | Advanced | "Customised windows" button and checked "Show Startup Window", edited the window and inserted a title. I then ran the show in "preview" and got what I expected - my customised screen - pressed "run" and off we go!

    Compiled an .exe and tried to run the file.

    Got the attached screen instead albeit with the correct caption. Have I misunderstood the function of the startup screen or forgotten to do something please?

    P.C. is running Windows Vista Home Premium with all latest patches installed.

    Dave

  6. Mike,

    Before leaving home I always disable wireless networking for two reasons:

    Some public wireless networks have been compromised, you don't want to connect to those! e.g. DNS cache poisoning

    In the UK if you do connect to an unknown network in theory you could end up having your collar felt i.e. being questioned by the police.

    When I give a public show I always disable auto updates and close down all the odds and sods that run e.g. Toshiba stuff.

    Regards,

    Dave

  7. What a marvellous group, as always, - no sooner do I ask a question than I get the answer

    Yes, I was using The Dom's templates, I loaded them originally when he published them. I've downloaded them again and all is well.

    In Vista the location of the .ini file is:

    C:\ProgramData\PicturesToExe\Versions\5.6

    Again, many thanks to you all,

    Dave

  8. I've just updated PTE from v5.1 to v5.6.1 and have come unstuck on a change to Objects and animations.

    Created a new project and added the slides, music, timeline etc. Have opened the O & A screen on a slide and added a text object. I then went to the "Common" tab, checked the Drop shadow box and pressed customise. Clicked the templates button and expected to see the list of built in templates e.g. Neon etc. Instead it's a menu to save the shadow template or edit a template.

    How do I get at the old built in shadow templates please as they met my needs?

    Many thanks,

    Dave

    p.s. the upgrade was brought about after my old laptop failed - got a new laptop running the dreaded Vista - less said about Vista the better!

  9. I would find two small improvements to the file panel most helpful:

    • Slides selected in the timeline have their names shown in bold. However those used in O & A as child images are not flagged. Could they be marked in some way please?
      When I have completed a show I delete all the unused .jpg's using the file panel since I still have the raw images. Would it be possible to have the delete key working in the file panel, preferably only on images that are not used in the slide list or O & A?

    Thanks,

    Dave

  10. My Evesham (MSI) laptop has the same problem, the ATI drivers (dated 2004) are the only ones that will work.

    I look forward to Igor's fix so that I can use my Spyder to calibrate my laptop and projector.

    Regards,

    Dave

    I have a Dell Inspiron with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700. The driver update on the ATI website will not install on my system, I get an error message instructing me to get the update from Dell instead. Dell doesn't have an update for the driver, and their tech support site just sends me an automated reply telling me to download their latest driver. I don't get a response from a live person because the warranty has long-since expired, and I'm not going to pay to have someone tell me what I already know -- the latest driver for the 9700 on the Dell site is dated 2005. So until (and if) Dell posts a driver update that I can install, I'm still in the lurch too. Will have to wait for Igor's fix in a later PTE version, I guess. (The fix that Igor posted does install even though I can't install the driver update, but the colour calibration problem isn't fixed without the driver update, at least not on my system.) :(
  11. dave, sorry to trouble once again but would you recommend a program like this one?

    http://www.hide-ip-soft.com/

    or do you think it's unnecessary? or perhaps you'd recommend another program? thanks!

    I have no experience of programs such as the one linked in the URL, so I cannot really offer any advice. I have never felt the need to obscure my IP address, I power my router down overnight so I probably get a different IP address each time I power it on.

    Regards,

    Dave

  12. my ip address showed up (i'm not surprised) but is that something i should try to hide? if so, what program would you recommend? thank you.

    You cannot hide your IP address as this is the backbone of Internet communication. However, if you use a router to connect to the internet the address shown is that of the router, not the computer.

    For example, my broadband connection is to a wireless router, so the address you see is my router, not the laptop or server I use. In addition the router provides a basic firewall. Note that none of this is a subsitute for a quality firewall and AV software on all connected computers!

    Seasons greetings to all on the forum,

    Dave

  13. I just got my new computer, up and running and all the software on it - I came to download PTE version 5.1. and found a virus on it. i am mad. I am also very upset that my new PC has succumbed to a virus after only one day of having it. If I cant trust this site where can I get the PTE software from that I badly need?

    :angry::ph34r:

    I have downloaded v5.1 from wnsoft.com about an hour ago with no problems. Kaspersky detected nothing - I've just rescanned it to make sure - nothing detected.

    I've downloaded it again now (20:53 GMT) again nothing detected.

    What virus is reported? Where did you download from?

    As you will see from other threads there is a real problem with this forum and trojans.

    Cheers,

    Dave

  14. Igor,

    Kaspersky has reported it's back.

    Yes, I did clear my cache yesterday and had no problems, tonight the trojan was reported again.

    Regards,

    Dave

    Websense, the tool used by a large number of businesses to control their employee access to the Internet has again classified this site as a malicous website due to the trojan problems. This means that many people will have their access to the forum blocked.

    Igor, perhaps you should consider hosting the forum elsewhere.

    Dave

  15. Barry,

    Several of us in in the South Wales AV Group have purchased laptops from Evesham. I went to their showroom at Evesham and tried a couple.

    The one thing I made clear was that the Graphics must not be "onboard". At the time I purchased, 2 years ago they had two laptops in that category.

    Regards,

    Dave
