This is something I have been debating in my mind for sometime now and I think your AV and points made here have convinced me.
All my shows from now on will be made as a HD master and then if needed resized.
Great show, ran perfectly on both of my PCs with only a little moire on the koala's fur.

On my system running XP Pro SP3+ at a rez of 1280x960 with IE7 or IE8 I have had no problems at all.
Also the new forum runs just as fast as the old one for me.
My laptop running XP Pro SP3+ at a rez of 1024x768 with IE7 is fine.
With any new/upgraded software the user must be prepared to spend a few minutes/hours familiarising themselves with the changes before condemning the product.
I have found all the functionally I had with the old forum and a great deal more in the new forum and are very happy with it.

I am hoping one of the knowledgeable members of the forum can help me find software to do the following --
Two folders each containing well over 1,000 files of many different types, (mainly image, sound and document files). Many but not all of the files are duplicated in each of the folders.
I wish to use a software tool to compare the two folders contents and produce a list of the files that are unique to each folder. That is are not duplicated.

Love the new look forum, easier to read, extra options, sub-forums and more professional appearance, big step forward.
<CTRL>+ and <CTRL>- work fine for me in IE8 with no word wrapping or any other problems.

Just out of curiosity I was wondering about the forum usage.
We now have 5,851 members but how many of these are active members?
I had a look at the members area and found only 477 members had made more than 10 posts over the life of the forum.
Only 89 members had made more than 100 posts in the life of the forum.
Is it possible for someone in the moderators/administrators team to extract the data on--
A/ How many members have logged onto the forum in say the last 12 months? I suspect that it will be less than 1000.
B/ How many members have posted a message in the last 12 months? I suspect it will be only a few 100.
Just wondering.

....<snip>..Simple controls like keyframed fade-in, fade-out, cross-fade, start sound from any point and end at any point and adjust volume independently of individual slide audio, etc., would be probably be sufficient for the majority of PTE users. Though PTE should never try to become an audio editor any more than it should become a video or still frame "editor," these elementary features will prevent having to make so many modifications and saves to an audio track that they are hard to keep up with when used for different shows.
I believe that the above are things well within the possibility of future versions of PTE and will, along with video clip control, make PTE "the" premier tool for the masses in both PC and MacIntosh worlds.

You have it in a nut-shell. These controls would be sufficient to meet most new/experienced users needs, mine included and I vote for it as the top priority for future PTE development.

Thanks for the long overdue poll.
The term "Sound Editing" is misleading and is not what most want to see in PTE we are talking about "Audio Adjustments" just as we have Image Adjustments in PTE.
Could you correct the question please.

Image Editing is done in Image Editors.
Sound Editing is done in Sound Editors.
Image and sound placement and adjustments should be done in PTE when building the AV.

Well done, a very enjoyable and entertaining show. The B/W images present well in the AV.
I think your choice of music was good, by not selecting the standard piano movie theme, (which would have been a little obvious), and using the John Williams version you put your own creative stamp on the AV and it works well. The Grappelli version would have been even better.
The show ran for about 3:00m and if you are going to do another with the movie effect here is a 3:27m version of the Stéphane Grappelli version which you may find useful.

Some of us are hoping that PTE will have better audio handling functions in the near future.

I have been trying to reproduce your problem and after several hours of trying many different combinations I can not!
Will have a look at the file for you when you post it.
Until then I'm wondering if this is a problem with something else you have running on your PC at the same time, anti-virus etc.
Try turning anything you may have running in the background off
WARNING disconnect the Internet connection before you turn off the anti-virus and turn the anti-virus program back on before you reconnect the Internet.

I think this is equal to your best work. I have been told I should never award a perfect 10/10 to anything as what do I do if something better comes along in the future, so I would give you 9.9999/10 for this.
Very enjoyable and it will definitely be shown to my photography club if you permit.

I have been playing around with positioning the "end of slide" and the "music end" (should be called "audio end"), and cannot recreate your problem with any combination of positions I try. I suspect the audio file/s you are using are to blame for your problem.

It appears that the problem is associated with the sound files.
Open them in you Audio editor and join them to make one file, edit the length to 3m 52sec, (from your screen-shot posted this point is the end of the last slide in the AV), and save the file as a .wav file and try it in your AV.

I was typing at the same time as you Gary and see you have now found the answer. It appears that the sound file end being past the last image end was the problem. This is something I have had many times in a show with no problems but it may be a combination of this and other settings you have for the AV, Lin may have the answer.

Just checked an AV I finished this morning and as you can see I have a similar relationship between the last image and the audio, it works fine.

All the above is good advice Jup, I would add that the registration file, (IE PTE.KEY), should be in the same folder that you have installed PTE to.

To follow on from my previous post this issue can be addressed simply by making the audio timeline interactive so that the audio file can be adjusted as we can now with the images. We don't need multiple image tracks.

I don't want to be able to edit the sound files in PTE. I want to do to them things that are equivalent to actions that I can already take with my image files.I want to be able to position a sound file at a precise point on the timeline - just like I can position an image file
I want to be able to position multiple sound files at multiple overlapping points - just like I can place multiple images on one main image
I want to be able to control the sound level of each sound file - just like I can control the opacity of an image file (and I want this feature to permit me to do fade up, fade down, and set any volume level through all or part of a sound file)
In short I want the sound files to be "audio objects" that can be manipulated but not modified.
This then brings PTE to a true AV program as Dave said---
Image editing software is for editing images.Audio editing software is for editing Audio.
PTE is for combining edited images and edited audio.
This allows the images and audio to both have accurate and precise positioning and adjustment, not just the images as at present.

As Lin said there is a clear distinction between the "Movie or Video" and the "Image/Audio" production software tools.
The Movie or video production software, (such as Sony Vegas, Pinnacle, Adobe Premier and many others), tend to be large,complex programs which like Photoshop take a large investment of time to get to know. They do a very good job and can also be used for Image/Audio production, (Indeed I have done so), but it is like driving a Ferrie at only 50kph, overkill.
The Image/Audio production software, (such as PTE, Pro-Show Gold, PSP and others), tend to be less complex and are easier for the user to approach.
I think making comparisons between the two types of software is a little like comparing apples with oranges, if we wish to compare PTE to another product PSG is probably it's main competitor in the same field and is a much better comparison.

This and many other comparison product tests, (magazines, WEB, user), all come to a similar conclusion, (as many users here have), that PTE while doing everything as well if not better than its competition falls down in the audio area. I get this same feedback from camera club visits I make. Indeed my own club has approximately 60% PSG and 15% PTE users, (the other 25% is spread over many products), and this is the reason I get when I ask why people use PSG or other programs rather than PTE----PTEs audio side is very poor!!.

Stunning macro photography. Very creative effect that works well with the subject and your choice and timing of the audio was as good as your photography.
All in all a great AV.
Ran as "smooth as a baby's bum" as we say in the colonies on all my systems.
Thanks for telling us what equipment you used to get such good images, I too was wondering how you did it.

I tried to use 5.7 beta 3 to make a Mac slideshow to test but it said I must be a licensed user of PTE Deluxe (I'm not a licensed user of PTE Deluxe). So does that mean I can't beta test the new Mac slideshow output?You need to have a licence for PTE Deluxe as I believe the Mac slideshow output is part of the Deluxe section of the program.

This must be a problem for everyone who wants very accurate slide and music syncronisation without having to keep repeating playback.Yes the accurately synchronisation of sound to images is a long standing problem with many users in PTE. So much so that when I am making an AV that requires a large number of accurate sound/image points I currently use another piece of AV software that allows this, I would much prefer to do it in PTE but it saves my sanity.
There has been a lot of discussion on the subject of how PTE handles audio and Igor has indicated several times he is looking at it. The latest was that v5.8 will have a rework of the audio facilities. Fingers crossed and hoping.

On the first 2 shows I got a definite "shimmer" on the fade in and out and on the zoom, (a little worse on the zoom).
On the third show the fades were perfect on all CPUs and there was a very small "shimmer" on the zoom. It is enough to annoy me.
The sound was clean and undistorted on all CPUs and all shows.
By the way I think your choice of soundtrack was brilliant and it would be nice if it was supplied in the template you will have in the shop when you get the bugs out of the show.

See the attached screen-print. (A picture is worth a thousand words).
Add you text from the main screen as a comment with copy from Word and paste into text template, edit, click OK, then go to O&A and you will find the text on the image has been inserted as an object that can be manipulated as you normally do in the O&A screen.
Well my "2 Bobs worth" anyway.

I have now fixed my problem with the long process of moving each keyframe and then adjusting them to get the same relationship.
It would be good to have the function to add a period of time at any selected point in the O&A screen as discussed to fix this problem when it arises.

For a first show this is quite a knock-out, well done.
The images were composed beautifully and almost all were sharp and exposed well. I think the animation you used worked well and added to the show, keep it in the show, in general your presentation was excellent.
The music you used was well chosen and an good match to the subject, again it shows the use of movie music in an AV is a good choice as the music is written to match the theme of the show.
I think the inset images worked very well and as Barry said a little slower would be an improvement they, and the effect enhanced the overall AV and allowed you to show your excellent vertical images.
The mosaic dissolve on the spotted cats was a great choice and I disagree with the suggestion to remove it, the dissolve matched and repeated the spots on the cats and I thought it was a great creative choice.
The removal of a few images was a good suggestion as the show was a little to long. Those images suggested earlier were a good choice or perhaps the section on the destruction of the illegal Ivory may be removed as it moves away from the theme of the show a little, (even though it was very interesting).
Keep this AV as is and make a second with some commentary or with some text as suggested and compare the two.
Yes the resolutions set for larger wide-screen format would be another improvement.
