  1. from The Oldie I have always been told that pic files need to be about 250/300kb only for the program to run smoothly. Maybe your files jpegged down to that sort of size may help
  2. Thanks Al, Its nice to think there are quite a few oldies! I currently do put an approximate piece of music to the timeline, so the matter is not desperate at all. It just seemed that it might be a tidy thing to do and be occasionally very useful. Many thanks for the interest. If Admin is looking for refinements in the future perhaps ? The Oldie (Alan in UK)
  3. JRR from The Oldie. The idea of silence for the timeline is definitely a clever thought. I suppose you could calculate time which is much more than you need, to be sure, for adding images. I think the idea of the basic timeline comes from one or two other av programmes, for instance the French programme GlobFX has this feature. It does mean that you can add your images as you produce them and play around with the other elements later. Mind you PTE is excellent as it is. The admin seems to react so readily to ideas it is always worth a mention ! Nice to be in touch with the forum again. If the technical chat is anything to go by, PTE is used for some way out and clever work! Nice to be in touch across the pond! The Oldie (Alan)
  4. It happens that I do not always have the sound effects/music ready for an av sequence. Sometimes it would be a great advantage to have a simple timeline to put on images before you have sorted out music or sound effects. Indeed it sometimes is an advantage to wait for the images to be sorted, transitions decided etc before working out the music etc. Would it be possible to have such a timeline to start with? Of course we sometimes start with the music or sound but definitely not always. Could Administrator react to this suggestion? Incidentally Igor, many congratulations on the programme. It is definitely the best!
  5. from The Oldie, I have been thinking that on many occasions it is not practical to apply a finished sound file as the basis for the time line. Often one may be working on the transitions etc and have not yet finished a matching sound effect or music file. How nice it would be like one or two other programmes to have an independant time line on which one could plant the transitions and if neccessary later a sound file. I wonder if Igor could think about this for the future. You see not everyone works with the sounds first ! Many congratulations on the programme and the excellent recent upgrades. Greetings to all, Alan in UK
  6. from The Oldie, I had cause to ask this very question regarding file size to run PTE smoothly and get good quality projection. It seems that the consensus in UK among the best of AV workers is a file size between approximately 200 to 500 kb, which is ample to produce excellent results and allow smooth transitions etc. Hope this helps, Regards to all the good folks on the forum Alan in UK
  7. Alrobin Al, Many thanks for further thoughts on the smooth transition situation. I will remember the bit about the various progs running before playing sequence. I haven't seen it mentioned in this forum but do people use the excellent Cooledit sound programme for their background music ?. Although it produces WAV files, these are easily converted to MP3. It is a super programme and cheap to download. All the best Alan The Oldie in UK.
  8. Thanks JRR. I think since posting my problem I have realised that I am probably using too large files. AVWorld Mag Forum has been discussing file sizes and it suggests that about 200kb is fine for AV work with 1024 x768 size. I have tried this and it seems to have answered the problem. As you are a two projector AV man you might be interested in our excellent AV World Magazine. Its the best for AV both analogue and digital in UK, and is full of contributions from the best amateurs in UK. They have a very good forum. The website is www.avworld.org/ All the best, The Oldie
  9. I used to be an old fashioned av worker with twin projectors and all that. I a much pleased with PTE and have made some nice little starting sequences. However I seem to be getting some jerkiness on the fade ( I only use really the fade not the other fancy style transitions). The jerkiness seems to be more on the shorter length fades say under about 6 secs or so. It also is more pronounced on my laptop than on the PC. Anyone come across this problem. Also will the final v4 sort it out? Incidentally the new v4 beta with the shaded timeline is super. Generally congrats on very nice programme.
