  1. Geoffrey Wignall,

Select the option which best suits your needs ... and Publish:

    Executable File for PC (EXE)

    Executable File for MAC

*To Publish as Executable File for MAC ... you need a valid VideoBuilder key registration or otherwise you will receive trial flags during playback.

    Hi

    Thank you for that.

However, making a sequence available to show on a Mac is not the point!

The point is to create the sequence in the first place on a Mac, with a Mac Program, - without using 'Windows' at all - either through 'Parallels', 'VMWare' or 'Bootcamp' :rolleyes

    Cheers

  2. Mike,

In my experience modern Laptops with i3 Processor-Systems and Intergrated-Graphic Chipset

are quite capable of resolving nearly all Motion-Images except "Motion-3D Images".

Having said that, its also my experience that most Laptop-Owners tend to 'overload' the System

with massive Photo-Folders and Programs which all have to be contineously refreshed so using

up the available (system) 'Virtual-Memory' not to be confused with User-RAM Memory. Burning up

'virtual-memory' slows down the Processors and the Graphics-system and is most likely to occur

when the Hard-Drive goes over 50~60% of its working capacity and at 75% capacity any user will

notice a dramatic reduction in processing-speed irrespective of the number of Processors used.

And had you forgotten to 'Defrag' the Hard-Drive now and then ?

To check to see if this is your problem see the Attached-image below with instructions.

    Hope this help you...

    Brian (Conflow)

    Hi

Simply put; you should have a 'dedicated' Graphics Card on the lap top rather than 'integral', as part of the RAM, - basically this tends to be on better (more expensive!) specified machines!

    Cheers

    Hey!

A lot of developments in 9 Years!

A MAC version of PTE is not one of them!?!

Do we give up? - "It just ain't goin' to happen"

Is PTE a skirmish battle in a war akin to the VHS vs Betamax conflict?

The only winners are Lawyers, Accountants - oh and don't forget the poor Bankers!

Or is it simply lack of interest or competence, is there a 'Microsoft' subsidy?

    Sod the users!

    (I was not such a cynic 9 years ago - :olol )

    Kind regards

    Geoffrey

I emigrated from the UK to Australia, because I liked the lifestyle that Australia offeres and I knew what the limitations were and what the differences would be between the UK and Australia before I made the move. I didn't get here and then start bleating that this wasn't as good as the UK or that doesn't compare. We pays our money and we make our choice and we do so because we have decided the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Mac users have done the same and they would have to be daft not to realise that the depth of software is not available for macs as it is PC's. However, I am not stupid and accept that this is all part of the charm of Macs and I don't have any quarrel with that at all. I am sure Macs are a great machine, but rightly or wrongly the whole world uses PC's and for what I do I have little choice but to stay with PC's. Quite often though, it almost seems like a complaint from Mac users. How dare PTE not be available for my Mac.

To be honest, Mac users should be over the moon that PTE is being developed for Macs and I hope Igor gets back all the time and cost he will have to put in to develop PTE for such a small percentage of computer users. I doubt it is no means certain.

Just to be clear: It is not that Mac users wish to 'Run Windows' - Far from it - we wish to AVOID 'Windows'.

Yes, that is the common cry and I suspect it is true for the majority including yourself, but there are loads of Mac users out there who run Windows too, so they can enjoy the breadth of software available and there is nothing wrong with that either.

It just gets tedious when a guy sidles up to me at a demo, puffs out his chest and in one of those irritating voices says " Well, you know of course I use an Apple Mac, far better than PC's", then proceeds to buy PTE software from me.

When I point out that it will not run on a Mac, I am told. Oh thats OK I have wondows installed too. Now this isn't an isolated thing.

Never, mind I am sure it just me who wants to shove the disk down the guys throat.

    Hi bb

Ok! - points taken on your considered response.

I will settle for 'Boot Camp'!

Now: is there another thread regarding Boot Camp Vs 'Parallels' or 'Fusion'?

    Cheers

    Geoffrey

ps I still love my MacBook

  5. I have done a lot of demos over the years and it amazes me how many times Mac users tell me PC's are crap and Macs are fabulous, yet all I ever read is Mac users wanting to run Windows. Am I the only one who wonders why?

Perhaps I have had my ear bent by the wrong people

    Hi BB

    No No No!

Just to be clear: It is not that Mac users wish to 'Run Windows' - Far from it - we wish to AVOID 'Windows'.

What is requested is Mac versions of some useful software (e.g. WnSoft PTE) that is currently only available in the 'Windows 'format!

    Cheers

  6. Hello Ken

Thank you for that - that link has worked!

Not quite the desired answer for Mac users though!

However, as a current alternative; how does Windows 7 perform with PTE - Is it worth 'Boot Camping' (that is installing 'Windows 7' on a separate part of a Mac Hard Drive)?

And, as for a point of clarification and with my, albeit limited, understanding, a Mac version just could not be 'Part of PTE' - they are simply designed and written for different operating systems! (.exe files are 'Windows 'executable' (i.e. 'playable') files, and by definition MAC files are not .exe files?)

It is just that a 'Mac' Version for File information and management would be good!

But can we take as a positive that it WILL WORK (IF and )when it finally arrives?

(But will 'Microsoft' actually allow this development?)

    Regards

    Geoffrey

  7. Hi Igor

    Any progress in 8 months?

Are we wasting valuable time waiting?

If you guys cannot cope at least just come clean and TELL US NOT TO EXPECT A MAC VERSION AT ALL!

It is more limiting for cross platform display purposes but we can use 'Keynote' (that is the 'Presentation' software package that is in iWork).

  8. We have a very good progress with fully functional PicturesToExe Deluxe for Mac version.

I think beta testing will begin in this year.

Before the open beta-testing I'll post an announcement in this section for those who would like to help us with internal alpha testing. Please watch this forum.

Our strategy as with previous version 5.0 - adding of features during beta-testing.

  9. I have patiently awaited the "Mac only" version for over 6 months now. Whilst I have looked and tried other Mac Slide-show software, I remain so impressed with P2exe that I can't wait for its eventual launch. However, I was told a release would be available this summer and now I am advised it will not be until the Autumn. There must be a lot of frustrated Mac users like myself, which represents a huge market!

    Is anybody listening?

  10. Hi

Any chance of a MAC version - at least be honest if the PTE technologists cannot cope, or is it an Apple licensing difficulty or something like that?

    Cheers

    Geoffrey

    Hi

Please excuse me as I am not used to these forum things!

However, I have posted on this this issue in the general forum in responding to an earlier disussion.

All I am trying to do is push for the development of a MAC version of PTE - and this seemed that it may be an appropriate place to at least create some further discussion.

    Cheers

    PS MACs 'Just Work'!

    Hi,

Since enquiring about a Mac Version of PTE in November 2008 you suggested that it would be about 12 Months before a Mac version may be available.

Is there any possibility of a version soon?

    Cheers

  12. Hi Peter

Conversion to Jpeg files should be the final step - and only to get the files to a manageable size for use in PTE.

You should have a RAW converter be it NX2 (as suggested by davegee above) or Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) - there are others as well.

[by the way I am a Nikon user and I have NX2 - I use Lightroom and CS4 - and I convert NEF's to DNG on import, and export to jpeg as required for output]

ACR is the same 'engine' in CS4 as in Lightroom - although the default Colour Space in Lightroom is Adobe ProPhoto - a wider gamut than Adobe RGB, and certainly sRGB.

But where Lightroom scores is in Image Organisation - Ok there are issues with having to 'import' image location references into the program (that is all they are, 'references' to wherever they are 'stored') but the sorting e.g. into 'Slide-Show' 'Collections' is far quicker than in Abobe Bridge.

Lightroom is a database of references whereas Bridge is a Folder Browser - like Windows Explorer, so if an image is in two folders then there are two separate images on the disk, whereas with a database referencing system there is only one.

What you cannot do in Lightroom (or NX2 for that matter!) is 'composites' e.g. making an in between image as well as the two separate images either side - as you may like to do for a sequence - that is a Photoshop (layers) job.

Nonetheless, Lightroom is good for image organisation and RAW Processing - which is what you should be doing for the reasons bbdigital outlines.

For reference I admit I am a 'book' person and I have - and use:

'Lightroom 2' (2009), Nathaniel Coalson, Wiley, Indianapolis - Straightforward, to the point and covers all the bases

'The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book', (2009) Martin Evening, Peachpit, Berkeley - Comprehensive - its the official Adobe manual (that does not come with the software lol)

But bear in mind Lightroom 3 is currently in Beta, and has been for a while so I do not expect it will be too long before it is relaesed (although if we have to wait as long as for a mac version of PTE then the breath is not worth holding - lol again!)

  13. Slideshow player for PC and Mac has much of common code. Mac version of course uses OpenGL, PC's one - DirectX 3D.

Our next task is a complete slideshow editor for Mac.

    Hi

I have just caught up with this thread (reference my response to the Linux query ;) )

It's good to know that we MAC users are still in the loop :).

  14. Hi Geoffrey,

I have tried VMWare Fusion about a year ago but the graphics performance on my Mac Mini was limited compared to Boot Camp. I think it's fine for MS Office but not for gaming/multimedia.

Boot Camp loads Windows from a separate partition with full control of hardware devices. My personal opinion is that any virtualization software adds an additional layer and will never be as fast as a the native operating system communicating directly with the hardware. Boot Camp has always worked for me, just hold down the Alt key during boot and select the OS. Newer Mac hardware runs Windows great.

It is possible to download malware/worms/viruses/... in any Windows environment, and yes you should definitely have antivirus software + some type of malware protection. I use Avira Antivir plus sandboxie to isolate my web browsing + noscript plugin for Firefox.

Windows 7 is supposed to run XP in a virtual session for backwards compatibility, so that should be interesting.

    Tom

    Hi Tom

Thanks for that - I will bear your comments in mind (and Boot Camp is FREE!).

I will let you know how I get on

    Cheers

    Geoffrey
