Streaming with WDTVLive

I make HD videos for PC & Mac add them to videobuilder as requested and convert them to MPEG4 files. The size & length varies resolution 1080 aspect 15:9

Usually these will not stream to my Sony TV using WDTVLive and raise the message "Unable to play the selected file." Please see the User Manual for a list of supported file formats which are not listed in the internet copy.

Is there a better way to do this or are there different MPEG4 formats. I have read some use VideoPad Video Editor and that Igor suggests other methods all of which are beyond my basic knowledge.

From the specification of your Western Digital media player, regarding restrictions on video encoding:

  • MPEG2 MP@HL up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • MPEG4.2 ASP@L5 up to 1280x720p30 resolution and no support for global motion compensation.
  • WMV9/VC-1 MP@HL up to 1280x720p60 or 1920x1080p24 resolution. VC-1 AP@L3 up to 1920x1080i30, 1920x1080p24 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • H.264 BP@L3 up to 720x480p30 or 720x576p25 resolution.
  • H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution.

So (for example), if you create an H.264 video that is 1920x1080p30, it will not play!

Xaver

Hugh,

I have a WD Media PLayer which I use on a Samsung TV (which internally has limted formats) and I have no problem playing HD Video (H264) created by PTE. I even use ISO format video files.

From the WD PDF:

Supported Video Formats

The following video file formats are supported.

AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4)

MPG/MPEG

VOB/ISO

MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4)

TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1)

MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264)

M2TS

WMV9 (VC-1)

Maybe your WD Player needs a firmware update ?

Hi Hugh

When I wrote source, I meant camera.

Yachtsman1.

The cameras are Canon bridge type.

MAY I THANK ALL for all their help.

Strangly it led me to tools in version7.07 and video convertor which works a charm. (Strange mind!)

A communication from Igor indicates this issue is addressed in version 7.5 beta I have not tried it yet.

Many thnks for all the help - somehow it came together.

Hugh
