  1. In times past, I did not always collect my images etc into the same folder as my project file, due to not wanting to duplicate images files throughout my computer due to lack of space I have subsequently upgraded and expanded my storage which has resulted in the images now being held on a different drive, and different folder structure, although with the same actual final folder name. Now, however when I try to revisit the projects, the files are posted missing. In some cases I have zipped the project top transfer it to another machine, and when unzipped, I have all the files in the same folder, but they are still posted missing, despite now being in the same folder as the project, as the file paths all relate to C:/My Docs/etc rather than K:/My Pictures/etc. Is there a quick way within PtoE to remap the filepaths, or do I have to go through each image separately, replacing each with the same file in its new location. I have to admit, I think I am stuffed, but perhaps someone out there may have a quick fix Ian PS A related issue with music files is even worse, since I can't fin a way to replace the missing music file with the same file in a different location. I only seem to be able to add the file. I am then copying whatever offset/fades wby looking at originals timings before I delete it, but have start from scratch on any wavbeform envelope changes which were on the original Is there a way of doing a simple replace ?
  2. Thank you both for the advice By trial and error I had just about got there - but still not sure about using R/L mouse click to move back/forward in absolute terms - does this only work when you are NOT right clicking on a button ie does button action take precedence ? I have also noticed another problem ( or should I say opportunity ?) My transitions were all set to fade, but when I go to my chosen slide, it doesn't fade from my existing slide, but from the previous one in the slide list ie let's say I am slide 1 and the button action sends you to slide 4. the fade is not existing ( slide 1 ) to slide 4 but from slide 3 to slide 4. I've changed to fast transition to avoid this, but any ideas ? As regards the maze that I may be constructing, I am currently trying to work it out, and it is somewhat convoluted (understatment). I am sure that I'll get there, as long as I keep my hand against the left wall Ian
  3. I am trying to create a show where, after the first few slides, the show only progresses when certain buttons on the screen are pressed. The idea I have is to use old street photographs of our town, of which I have many, to create a Google Street View type presentation. With up to 6 buttons with different actions eg - Look at view to left Look at view to right Look at view behind move forward move back go to main menu Each of these actions will move the presentation on to a certain slide in the show, with each slide having its own What slide length should I set ? Do I need to tick "Permit Control Using Keyboard" ? If so, do I need assign actions to the mouse buttons, or leave them at "None" ? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I can't find it after various searches
  4. Update on query - DVDs only have problem when playing back on PC using Window Media Player - OK on TV No real urgency to query now - although still seems odd - seems to be on the edge of the "safe zone" Ian
  5. I am currently producing a DVD which incorporates two separate presentations, although I think that the number is not an issue. When playing either of the presenatations on the DVD there is an area toward the top LHS where there is a square block which flickers on and off in area that should be black. This only happens in the DVD and not in any EXE file produced. I have created an ISO copy and tried burning from that on to a couple of DVDs with same problem arising. I have reduced burn speed to 8x but still problem Has anyone any ideas ? Ian
  6. Thanks for the input I just posted that I had resolved (?) the problem by carrying out a system restore I am just about to go on holiday for a week so will not be able to explore Beta 7 until I get back, but if problem recurs I'll try your suggestions, in case it is an obscure bug within the program, and may be real issue, rather than something specific to my PCs configuration. Again thanks for your suggestions Fergy
  7. Hi Lin I did a system restore which seems to have solved the problem A bit loathe to try recreate it If it recurs will let you know Fergy
  8. Hi Lin Another update - installed another version of Pictures to Exe on a different hard drive on my PC and tried to run PTE files on this version. Unfortunately still no sound Fergy
  9. HI Lin I've checked that both PTEs and EXEs work on my laptop. The probelem does appear to be confined to my main pc. It's running XP Service Pack 3, fully updated Fergy
  10. Hi Just downloaded latest Beta and liked what I saw. Yesterday created a short PTE with some small MOV files (initially as slides, but then as objects) and all seemed well, including sound in videos. Have now returned to the PTE and have no sound I have tried creating a new PTE with just one MOV file, and again no sound I then tried a new PTE with simple jpg and an mp3 file, again no sound I then opened 6.5 and opened a pte created in 6.5 - only created yesterday and I have no sound I have now opened several older pte files and can no longer hear sound on any of them In addition, the EXE files created from these shows no longer have sound I've checked that outside P2E that sound is playing OK - Window Media Player, Quick Time Player and also EXE created via ProShow all OK Has Beta 7.10 done something which is affecting my earlier 6.5 and other shows ? Fergy
  11. Thats exactly the effect I was looking for Thanks for the advice - I suppose as with all things, when you get an enhancement in PTE, you always want something a bit more I'll try the technique and see how I get on - it sounds like a good way to build up a library of different masks and effects. Ian
  12. I have started to use the mask feature more and more, as it allows me to perform zooms & pans within an area less than the full screen. What I would like to be able to do is to have a border round the masked area - well actually the area not hidden by the mask. This would then look similar to an unmasked image of the same size with borders. I would also like, if possible, to be able to have a drop shadow around this. I have managed this before by having additional layers, to create the shadow, and a border, but wonder if there is any easier way.
  13. Thanks for the comments I understand the point re resizing using external software in terms of quality - but still not sure why PTE stores fullsize image, rather image which will be generated as output. I think also that while we may all be PTE users, we should not totally denigrate other software and its users. I have seen many excellent and sophisticated shows produced in PSG and Producer - mind you Producer is substantially more expensive. To beginners, in our camera club anyway, things such as Keyframes and layers and how pans/zooms/fades etc work seem more intuitive in Producer. Having used PTE for several years, I find that PTE can produce similar effects and more, but you do need to have a better idea of what you are wanting to produce and be able to visualise it as you build. Things are improving with each version in this respect eg simple things like creating a blank slide, the ability to mix soundtracks, 3d effects etc. In fact, when I see the list of improvements with each version, there are some that I don't even understand. I also like the ability to converse in these forums, and get advice and input regarding problems. I'm just going to post one such query in a minute. Again thanks for the input guys
  14. As I understand it, Exe file sizes essentially are dependent on the underlying jpg and mp3 file sizes in the presentation, hence the benefit of resizing jpgs to the actual screen size/resolution. Fellow camera club members use other programs for presentations in which they do not need to resize the images eg ProShow Producer/Gold. Their created Exe files are of a similar size to my Exe files produced by PTE but only if I use resized images. This adds an additional step to the process, and can be time consuming. It is seen by them as a definite negative factor in choosing whether to use PTE. Given that the Exe file will only ever display the image at the chosen resolution, why is PTE exe file so large when if full size files are used ? I think that this is because the PTE exe file stores the original image within it's coding. Why ? As I said the resizing can be timeconsuming, and at times has to be done image by image, particularly when pans and zooms are involved. Is this something which is an issue for users, and could be addressed in future ? It is something that from my experience is detering possible converts
  15. Lin Thanks for your advice I think that with your help I can now put something together which will look good Ok there will be a few rough edges, but I suppose that while we strive for excellence, and see all the little flaws, those people who see the shows tend to be pretty d****d impressed If I solve the problem of terminating shows, I'll post it, but in the meantime I'll go back to the members to see if they can amend the shows to exit when they end Again, thanks for all the help. It really shows the value of these forums, or should we call them fora ? Take Care Ian
  16. Thanks Lin This is great I misunderstood that option - I'm almost there Now I've got a sequence working, needed to put in an extra black slide after my "flight" slide reached destination and used that to run the external application. When that external show ends it reverts back the slide which started it running, albeit very abruptly, and then lets me continue with the core show and the next "flight". I'll need to sort out the background music etc but that's small beer Really only two questions left - is there any way I could fade in the return - rather than it snapping back to my black screen - any ideas how to automatically force an end (thus return to the core show) to already created EXE files which have been set up for last slide to remain on screen - I am not sure if I can get everyone rework their shows. - I've also got a few Proshow Gold users so I may have some other questions if this doesn't work with their shows, but I am pretty sure it will Your advice is much appreciated Ian
  17. Brian Just tried it - a couple of things make it less than ideal When moving between shows, the screen briefly switches back to the Dos window, while at the same time there is a gap in the background music - I can "smooth" this gap by doing a bit of work on the sound files so change feels less abrupt, but not sure how to prevent or hide, switch to dos and back to show Any ideas Ian
  18. Thanks for this - I used to deal with .bat files many years ago and had forgotten about this approach Now is when I'll find that my friends EXE files don't close but remain on screen after the last slide - ho hum Again many thanks for this simple low-tech approach Ian
  19. Hi I have a query regarding automatically running a previously produced EXE when a slide ends, rather than having to create a button I am trying to do a round the world presentation - with a simple PTE showing a map and a plane moving between various world locations. I have several presentations (only EXE files, not project files), prepared by club members on differnt versions of PTE, which I would like to run automatically when the slide, showing my plane arriving at the destination, ends. Very "Indiana Jones, I know, but it looks good. eg I have a slide which tracks the plane from UK to say Venice - when that slide ends I would like to automatically run the Venice show, and then ideally return to my original show on the next slide showing the journey continuing to another destination. At present I am having to use a hidden button, which a need to click, to "run application", and I am having difficulty returning to my initial core show. Can anyone help, please ? Ian
  20. Thanks, everone, for the input One of the reasons for the query, was also to rty to create a consistent width border When I used the stroke option in Photoshop, I would choose say 2 pixels, but the impact in the final presentation varied, particularly if I didn't resize beforehand I agree it's not a must have, but will add it to the Ideas & Suggestions list, as I think it would be a good addition to the range of tools, and cut out an element of the pre-processing of images, thus speeding up the workflow Fergy
  21. Hi Agree with that comment, and that's why I am sticking with PTE, but still a pity re the ability to outline Fergy
  22. Hi Lin Thanks for responding so quickly Sounds an ingeneous idea - particularly where you have a series of images with consistent aspect ratios. Unfortunately this is often not the case, particularly when images have been cropped in order to improve the composition. I was hoping that PTE would have a similar facility to that in ProShow, where you can outline each image/object Sounds as though that's not possible, pity Fergy
