  1. If you mean the Preview from Current icon, yes. It behaves like the Preview icon. And, if the second or subsequent slides are highlighted, Preview flashed the slide highlighted and not the first slide.

I don't know, but the fact neither Preview or Current brings up the regular full screen display.

    Thanks for you time, Yachtsman1.

I know it is bad form to reply to one's own reply, but I thought it would be helpful in trouble shooting this problem to point out that I went back to ver 5.11 and added a few of the same slides (I didn't use the 5.6.3 pte file) and tried Preview and Preview from Current. They both worked as expected. The full screen was displayed and the slides started properly.

  2. On the off chance one of us "lesser" mortals could throw some light on this? Have you tried the icon to the right of the preview button?

I think i could safely say that no more than a doz members could translate the pte.

unless there have been a bunch hiding :)

    Hi Ken,

I don't know, but I'm betting you are correct and they are probably currently off doing something more interesting than trouble shooting my PTE problem. I was responding to the request from potwnc.

Anyway, I'm still looking for a solution to the lack of a Preview and Preview from current issue. Potwnc's request did prompt me to look inside the .pte file. Kinda interesting, but I'm for sure not in the dozen you estimated.

  4. I must have set something wrong. Not sure what. P2E didn't always work this way for me. When I click Preview or Preview from Current, the images do not display properly. The first image flashes and turns to black and stops. If I click the start arrow (to the left of the stop icon), the slides are then displayed, but only in the Animation window, not the full screen view. I'm using 5.6.3.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have a presentation at a local Audubon Society meeting this coming Tuesday. I have successfully created three short presentations, but I would like to be able to preview what I've put together without doing a Create in order to assess the transitions.

  5. Thanks, Roger. Good point! The voice of experience talking.

    Doug,

My experience is that any titling should be put at the top. If showing

to an audience generally only the first few rows can see the

bottom of the screen. It might look good on your monitor but it

can be annoying if you are at the back of a hall!

    Regards, Roger

  6. That sounds like a good way to go. I'll give it a try shortly. I assume with this approach that I can put the title of the talk at the top and the slide specific text at the bottom.

Good ole right click. I never tried that on the text comment.

    Thanks for your help.

    doug

A slightly more graphical user friendly way to design the comment text for your slides is to add text to a single slide with proper size/font/color, right click on the text and set the Text comment option.

Then from the main menu select Slide, Select Comments on All Slides = Current One (or type Ctrl+M).

    Tom

  7. Thanks, Xaver.

I was doing the 'Set for existing slides' as you suggest, but I did it for the Title of the talk, which I wanted to appear at the top of each slide. I wanted the common name etc of the bird to appear at the bottom. But, your suggestion made it so much easier to automatically add the bird names that I decided to include both the title and the bird name at the bottom of the slide.

If there is a way to designate text at the top and Picture name at the bottom, I'd be even happier.

    doug

    Doug,

    1. Insert the birds into the slide list.

    2. Go to 'Project Options > Comments'. Insert template 'Picture Name', and click 'Set for existing slides'. In the same way, choose font, position and other settings.

    3. Insert other images without text.

    Regards,

    Xaver

  8. I have a large number of JPG images of birds that are named Common Name - Genus specie.jpg. There must be a better way to add the bird names to the bottom of each slide than how I'm doing it. For each slide, I click Add Text, Insert text template (Picture name), change Times New to Arial, delete the word Text in the middle of the image, resize text added from Template, relocate text to bottom of image and click Close. I'm using 5.6.3.

    1. How make Arial the default Face?

    2. How to set a template (eg., Picture name) to be on by default.

  9. When I add a group of jpeg files to the image list, I'm getting an error "Exception EAbort in module apr.exe at 001c3e21. It appears to normally load the first image in the group, but the remainnig images appear black. When I attempt to clear the images from the list, I get another exception @ 001c3acf. This is with 5.6b2.

When I try 5.5, the behavior is the same, but the error message is more cryptic - Assect in procedure ActualIni_sort (C:\worlds\PicPack\pteActualProjects.pas line 108).

THe pc is a Dell 400 with 4G memory and was running only explorer and P2E at the time. So far as I know, there machine is working OK.

I'll be happy to provide additional info or run simple test, if that will help.

  10. I lost a hard drive on my laptop and I'm having difficulty re-registering Picturestoexe.

Support sent me a reg file for Video builder, which did register VB, but when I try to install the file in P2E 5.5, it says wrong file is for different program and P2e still shows as unregistered.

I'm not sure what to ask for to get me back working with P2E. As I recall history, I first registered the standard version of P2e and then upgraded to the deluxe version.

Sorry to bother, but I would like to be able to use P2E on the road on my laptop.

  11. I've now worked enough with HD rendering to be able to write a tutorial of sorts. By no means would it be fully comprehensive as this is a complex field in its own right. It wouldn't always be up to date as this field is constantly changing - now more so than ever as vendors (including WnSoft) position themselves to begin taking a slice of the emerging "prosumer" market.

If there appears to be enough interest I could probably get at least an initial version by the time PTE 5 is first released in non-beta.

    Ray

    Hi Ray,

A tutorial on making slideshows for presentation on HDTV would be very helpful to me. Just a few screen captures would be a great help.

  12. While I'm basically happy with the video and audio quality of DVDs made with PTE/Video that are played on std definition TVs. However, I'd like to make higher quality versions to play on HDTVs. Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge to wisely configure the AVI video screens. Would anyone like to give some settings and procedures that they find gives HD quality slideshows on a HDTV?

  13. I tried some demo's of paid programs, but when you aren't very experienced in programming, the possibilities are overwhelming. Most of the time you only need a few options. At least, if you only have to make an installer for a slideshow. Making an installer for something which interferes with the registry needs totally other options.

Just try the different programs. Cost you some time, but in this case (freeware) no money!

    Marianne,

Which freeware install programs would you suggest I try?

  14. I always try to make my cd's at a 'dummy' level. Try to make it as easy as possible even to someone who doesn't know much about computers.

I tried SetupStream for my last project. I also tried Ez-Wiz. Both programs are freeware. I liked Ez-Wiz because it has more layout possibilities and shows a checkbox at the end of the install to give someone the choice to start the show immediately. So there is no need to search for it.

But... Ez-Wiz takes a long time to startup. That's why I finally chose SetupStream. If someone clicks on a link to start the setup and it takes for about 20 seconds before anything happens, they think nothing is going to happen at all!

    SetupStream does a good job.

    Marianne,

Thanks for the info. I was surprised that some of the programs that were similar to SetupStream cost big bucks. Generally, that suggests the free versions are disappointing. I hope that is not the case with SetupStream.

  15. Auto-Installer

    Douglas,

There is a simple way of doing what you want. Find yourself an "Auto-Installer" Program and get it to "wrap"your Exe Files (singly or multiples) and download that to your Clients.

Most "Auto-Installers" request that you specify the precise Folder that you wish to Install into, examples:- My Documents, My Programs, My Desktop etc, etc. It will find the Folder and do precisely that.

They also offer an 'anti-fiddle' key which prevents the System (recepient) from downloading to another Folder. However once downloaded you can manually move the PTE.Files to any location of choice.

You could try www.snapfiles.com and others for a suitable product.

    Brian.Conflow.

    Brian,

Thanks for the info. I downloaded SetupStream, but have not yet tested the program. The program blurb sounds like this should do the trick. I can set it so the P2E exe file downloads to the Desktop. Folks should be able to find it there.

    Doug:

Further to comments already offered, so long as the .exe files are in the root of the CD, I would expect it to be found.

Many of us use a "launch" show (a single image show with the other shows being linked via an OBJECT - button or picture) The "Launch show" sould be the auto started .exe file and then your viewer simply clicks on whichever OBJECT to start the desired show.

I have never had a problem using this technique.

    (YET that is...... :):) )

    Thanks!

The problem is not that the HTML has trouble finding the P2E exe file, it's the user that sometimes does not know where to look for the downloaded exe file.

The Launch Show approach sounds like what I'm looking for, but I've not looked at that option. I just clicked on Option Editor, but nothing there seems helpful at first glance. I need to do some more tinkering before I understand how to Object to launch.

  16. Thanks for your help.

Your action on mouse click should be (Run application or open file......)

I don't find this setting under Advanced Mouse Buttons. Where is this setting?

Then you need to point to the file name. Example here is "Baby-face_party_2.exe"

after you have the slideshow picked. You will need to take out the drive letter.

It might look something like this. "D:/Baby-face_party_2.exe"

I have the link on the CD set: <A HREF="./GalapagosBirds.exe"Galapagos Birds</A><BR>

    Doug

    Which browsers, Doug?

I use Firefox as default browser, but I've also tested with IE. Upon reflection, I suspect some of the issues are related to my firewall - Trend Micro's PCCillin.

    Thanks.

  17. I'm new to P2E and may not have yet looked in the proper help files or on the right forum to find a solution, so I'm asking directly.

I have created an autorun CD that allows users to select from one of several p2e.exe slide shows by clicking on a http link. Once the exe files is downloaded and the user clicks on the exe file, the shows display fine. However, some browsers do not automatically display the download the exe file forcing the user to browse for it in their default download folder.

How can I configure P2E so the exe file on a CD will run, either directly from the CD or at least run without the user having to locate and click on the downloaded file in the default download folder on his/her PC? Some folks don't know the name of their PCs default download folder and therefore can not find the downloaded exe file.
