Hello,
Some slide styles contain background pictures (for attractive view).
When you apply such style, PicturesToExe 9 copies used images from this style to a project folder (projectname.resource).
It allows you easily transfer this project to another computer, even if another installation of PicturesToExe 9 does not have this slide style. Your project does not depend on applied slide style.
If you re-work your slide, delete it, or apply another slide style, PicturesToExe 9 will automatically remove projectname.resouce folder (when it's not necessary).
Thank you Igor.

When I make a slideshow using the Wedding - 3 Portrait - Style, a folder appears on my desktop. The name of the folder is "slideshowname.resources. Within that folder there is a folder whose name is a bunch of letters and numbers strung together with hyphens. Inside that folder is a JPEG which serves as the background of the style.
Styles baffle and bewilder me. I love using them straight "out of the box" but have never understood the concept of downloading a style to import. (Yes, I have read the tutorials and I have experimented.) Having expressed my ignorance, I have a question.
Could someone shed some light on the purpose /use of that resource folder and the JPEG that is in it? Can it be deleted?
Thanks.

I uninstalled PTE V9 with the intent to download and reinstall. I got a message that everything did not un-install but it could be done manually. I did the download and reinstall. Without going into gory details (mainly because I don't actually know) I created a monster. For whatever reason I decided to uninstall version 6.5 also, got the same message as with version 9.
Now whenever I attempt to open a PTE file on my Windows 10 PC, it offers me three options: #1.Keep using the PTE 6.5 version. #2. Use PTE (it doesn't specify version, but it works for me). #3. Choose a different app from the app store.
Oh my gosh! I looked back at windows to be sure I had stated those options correctly. I noticed a box at the bottom which said "always use this option" so I thought that was the answer to my question. I clicked on it and my PTE slideshow, which I have been working on for days, has disappeared. Can anyone help me find it? What other info can I give you?

You guys are all the greatest. I reinstalled P2E and it works great. I think I could have also fixed it by moving the line now that y'all have explained it to me. If you have already explained to me before, I apologize - my remember-er doesn't work like it once did. I'm going to look at my resolution and font size when I finish this slideshow. Have I ever told y'all how much I love P2E - and the helpful people on the forum!

I was going to suggest Ctrl+2, but that does not seem to be the issue, I cannot seem to recreate what you're seeing here.
Can you confirm that the images you're viewing are held in a folder on physically on your desktop. If so, try a reinstall of PTE, it's a quick process and you won't need the key again.
Thanks for all the quick responses. Yes, The images are in a folder on my desktop. I'll be back in a couple of hours to report after a doctor's appointment.

I was working on a slideshow and my screen list looked like the second attachment.
All of a sudden, I apparently, did something to cause it to look like the first attachment.
I know that I can press the triangle to the left of the Objects & Animations button and it will look like the 3rd attachment.
Does any one have an idea what I might have done or what I can do to get my screen list the was it was originally?
Thanks.

Applying a Style after choosing to mute audio will probably negate that setting.Mute the sound AFTER applying the style.Does that help.
Phil
Thanks, I will try that.

Using p2e 9, I am trying to make a simple anniversary slideshow using nine pictures and one video. I'm using the wedding style with ten portraits. I would like to mute the video and use background sound only. I have clicked the "mute audio" on the video slide using Objects and Animations. That works if I just preview it as a slideshow but when I add the slide style to the ten slides, the video sound still plays?
Can anyone help me?

I'm working on a slide show of our Venice pictures from a recent cruise. I have a video clip of a gondola passing by our hotel room that I am trying to add. It is a MP4, is 19 seconds, and doesn't require trimming.
1. I attempted to add it to the slide line in my project the same as a photo. I got a popup box with a message saying "PTE recommends converting. My options were "optimize" or "use original file". I chose "optimize" and that option gave me nothing but errors. When I chose "use original file" the preview showed three photos instead of a video.
After a long day of trial and error, this is what seems to have worked:
1. I converted my MP4 file to AVI using VLC media player.
2. When I attempted to add it to my slide line, I got a popup box with the message "PTE recommends converting". My options were "optimize" or "use original file". I chose optimize and that produced a second AVI file which I used.
So these are my questions:
Am I correct in my assumption that PTE requires your video to be Type AVI? And that it has to be optimized by PTE when you add it to your project? Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I'm about to start a new thread concerning video files. Hope I find as much help on that as I did here about the fading music.

Hi Shirley
Just for info, there is a very easy way to fade out music in the timeline.
If you look at the top right-hand corner of the audio track in the timeline, you will see a little black upside-down L shape. Just drag this to the left.
there is a similar one at the beginning of the audio track for fading music in.It's this sort of little touch that makes PTE the great package that it is.
Regards
wideangle
Thank you so much wideangle. That would have never occured to me. Actually, I had never ever noticed that little upside-down L - and certainly would have had no idea what it meant. I need to find an organzied way to study and try to figure this software out. I have been using it - and loving it - since version 5 but only for simply things. Thanks again.

Gary, They are MP4's. Is that what they should be? And do I need to trim them in some other software or can I do that in PTE?
-
Now I'm off to try to figure out how to add a video clip to my slideshow about my Venice trip in Nov. Thank you very much.

Thanks Gary. You are right - it's the orange volumn line I am talking about. I think it's may also be called the envelope line but I'm not sure. I didn't realize I had used WMA format - thanks for pointing that out - I've tried an MP3 and I still can't see the orange line. I have also gone back and looked at several old projects to see if I have ever seen that volume line.
I'm thinking about re-installing PTE and seeing if that helps.

I have never mastered fading music in and out of my slide shows. The 1st attachment is a print scrren from a YouTube tutorial I was just looking at. As you can see there is an orange line running through the music file in the Timeline view. (The tutorial shows how to fade out the music by Clicking on the red line about ten seconds before the end of the line - see the blue dot - and dragging the line so that it is at the bottom of the screen at the end.) Looks easy enough.
The second attachment is a printscreen from one of my projects. There is no red line. Can anyone tell me what I am missing?

You have a nice website. I'll be back. Thanks

I have been using P2E for years and years in a very simple way, getting help from time to time on this forum and from Lin on several occasions but I appreciated this. Thanks Igor and team. I think new users will love it.

I used to get an email every Sunday with link to all new content on the forum. Has that email been discontinued or have I managed to get deleted ? Anybody know the answer?
-
Oh Mur. That is wonderful. You make it look so easy. I want to learn how to do that! I love making Shutterfly Photobooks for my adult kids and grandkids for gifts but they are so expensive. This would be a great application for that. Thank you.

Hi Shirley,
Right now, the only way to save a slide to a jpeg is by using a screen capture tool. This, of course, will only save the slide at the screen resolution.
There have been discussions about this in the past and I believe the reason that such a feature has not been implemented was to protect the images from theft. However, I myself believe that being able to save a screen to a jpg could be a very nice "optional" feature which users might want to add to the Navigation Bar. One of the present optional features of the Navigation Bar (in the Air or Sky style) is to be able to "print." Adding a feature to allow a "save as jpg" should not be terribly difficult.
If you wish, why not suggest this on the forum in the "Ideas and Suggestions for Next Version" and I will endorse your suggestion. Be sure and suggest that the entire screen including shadows, backdrop and such be saved. It would necessarily have to be still done at screen resolution I think, but still would be a very nice feature. There is a Windows Screen Capture feature in some versions of Windows, I think. I have never used it and prefer to use software such as HyperSnap or Snagit where you have the ability to carefully crop before saving.
Best regards,
Lin
Thanks Lin,
I will make that suggestion. I really appreciate all the help you give the newbies on the forum (although I'm not new in the length of time I've been using, and loving, PTE, I'm still new in my abilities and knowledge.) You have been a great help to me.

Hi Sue,
One way you can achieve the "floating look" on a backdrop is to use PTE's "drop shadow" feature (Objects and Animations screen - Common Tab - Check "Drop Shadow" then click on "Customize" to choose opacity, angle, size and position of shadowing) - example below from one of my photos:
Best regards,
Lin
Thank you so much, Lin, for this explanation (and thank you, Sue, for your question). I love how that looks and have been trying for years to figure out how to do it. Now, is there anyway to save a "floating look" slide as a JPEG?

Thanks guys. I had not thought of the screen copy. I'll try that. I appreciate your quick response.

Lin, I just realized that I did not respond to thank you for your message. The missing slideshow "magically" came back - obviously, "user error". Thanks.
