  1. I need to set up a text template in PTE AV Studio. I could do this in PTE9 under Project/Project Options and clicking on the Default tag.

According to the PTE 10 User guide I should still be able to do this but the Defaults and Advanced tags are both missing on my version.

    What is going on?

  2. Some years ago I made a show in several sections.

I also created a separate menu slide to enable me to select the section I wanted to show. It also included an Exit heading which closed the show.

I can't remember how I did it - can anyone help me please?

  3. Thanks again everyone.

I think I have solved the problem I had with Dropbox. It was slowing down my Internet access as it seemed to have hung-up when sending a large file.

I have now successfully sent a short (5MByte) PTE file which went very quickly and was received OK.

I hope this has resolved the problem and so I have invited all the potential recipients to access the folder.

Thank you Ken also - it is interesting to see that hosting sites were being discussed back in 2002!

    Happy New Year

  4. Wow - that generated a lot of responses in a short time.

I actually have a dropbox account and use it to send photos to a group of friends.

However it does seem to have a serious problem, at least on my setup. It seems to be because my broadband system is ADSL - it is so asymmetrical that it takes forever to send a large file (or group of small files). Maybe I'm doing something wrong!

I will now read and try to understand the various options that have been suggested - I've never heard of Media file or WeTransfer, so I'll see what they can do.

I'll also look into the hosting service suggested by Ken.

Thanks to everyone - I'll try some of the suggestions and see what happens.

  5. I have recently made a short AV which I want to send as an email attachment to several people.

I know that most ISPs will not allow .exe files to be sent but I believed that if I compressed it into a ZIP file all would be OK.

However I have found that gmail and ntlworld (and probably others) now appear to look into the ZIP file and block the message.

I have had success in changing the extension to .doc - which can be sent - and getting the recipient to change it back to .exe.

This works but is clunky and if one is unfortunate enough to use gmail, very fiddly to do - as far as I can see these users can only get at the file by saving a download in its own folder and then changing its extension! Apparently this is not all that easy to do.

I thought about sending it as an MP4 file but I notice the file is much bigger and the slides no longer fit in the frame (I lose the top and bottom).

    Does anyone have a solution?

    Merry Christmas

  6. I am using PTE v7.5.10 and have just tried to send a PTE file to my iPad via dropbox. I published it as Mac and it downloaded OK onto my iPad but the iPad will not display the file.

Does it have a different operating system from the Mac?

Is there anyway I can display the show?

    Thanks

  7. There are no specific guidelines in the user guide on use of the text facility in the "Objects and Animations" Window. In particular I wanted to change the default font.

I looked right through the user guide but could find no information on the details of the text button in the Properties tag.

I did notice the "Save and use by default" facility but it appeared to be "greyed out" and didn't react when clicked - so I assumed it hadn't done anything.

I think it would be helpful if the guide covered all the facilites in this dialogue box and the appearance of the button to set the default text improved to make its function more obvious.

  8. In the Objects and Animation window, Properties tab: at the bottom of the upper half "Save and use by default"

Thanks - it has solved the problem!

  9. In earlier versions I found it was not possible to set a default font in a text box, but I understood the later versions would allow this. I have V7 and in my first project I set the font to Trebuchet MS and it worked fine.

For my next project I wanted to use Bullets but Treb doesn't have any, so I tried to change the default font to Times Roman.

However I can't get rid of Trebuchant which comes up every time I open a text box. I am back to the original problem of setting the font every time I want a text box.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  10. Look at the Title bar of the PTE main window - or - Help About as with any other software will give you the version you are using. Visit the WnSoft website to find the latest "official" version. Visit the PTE forum to find the latest beta version. If you have no previous experience of PTE beta programmes, I, and others here on the forum, can assure you that the code is usually very stable from the very first beta of a new version. The new function gets added in small amounts and any bugs are quickly ironed out (usually within a day or two).

Just to give you the "facts" as they currently stand:

    - the "official" release is v6.0.4

    - the latest beta release (as at the time of writing) is v6.50 beta 13

    regards,

    Peter

  11. Most of my slide shows require some text in most of the frames.

I should like to make the default font something other than Times New Roman in White, so that I don't have to reset it every time I want to use it.

Is there any way to do this?

  12. Updated version 6.0.2 of PicturesToExe Deluxe is available

    http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/picturestoexe-setup.zip (7.4 MB)

    Changes in version 6.0.2:

    * Fixed problem of v5.00-v6.0.1 with freezing of PicturesToExe on some PCs when user opens "Objects and animation" editor.

I have been discussing on the "Trouble with Windows 7" thread because I could not get my video builder key to work. I read about the latest version of PTE (6.0.2). I eventually managed to download it and it has solved the problem I had. BUT it has generated a new one which is even more serious.

I cannot load a new project!!!

The folder panel only contains some of my folders. It will show "Documents" but not "Pictures" so I cannot load any images that are not in the "Documents" folder.

This is serious because in Windows 7 there is a folder called "Libraries" which contains several folders "Documents", "Music", "Pictures" and "Videos". I can't see any of the last three.

    Help - quick!

  13. 1) Brief description of the problem.

    2) Edition of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, etc.)

    3) 32-bit or 64-bit?

    4) It's a new clean installation of upgrade from Windows XP or Windows Vista? (please specify version of previous Windows - 32-bit or 64-bit)?

    5) Did it help solve this problem when you installed all suggested drivers and updated through Windows Update?

    6) The problem is resolved now?

I'm wondering if there is any resolution to the problems that some of us are having with PTE on Windows 7. Just after Christmas I reported to WnSoft that I could not make my key work with Video Builder when I was trying to create a “HD video for PC or Mac”. They sent me another key which did not work either. They then suggested I ask on the forum so on the 31st Dec I entered the discussion thread. I have had a couple of suggestions but unfortunately none worked. eventually, on 21st Jan Nobeefstu recommended I try WnSoft again. Once again they gave me another key, but still no joy. I was asked my operating system etc which was information I had already given them – but I gave it again. This time utter silence - I have heard nothing in spite of reminding them I was waiting for an answer.

For the record I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. It is a new clean installation on a new machine.

    It is a Quad-core i7 CPU 860@2.80GHz 2.79 GHz using 8.00 GB ram.

Does anyone think that if I uninstall PTE and ask for another copy I might have some luck.

I must say I am getting very frustrated.

  14. DaveOR,

I dont advise people to edit the Registry directly unless they feel absolutely certain they know what they are doing. The Registry has no confirmations or messages to save on exit ... it just automatically enters whay you type in after you click OK.

From the Start Menu - Run command just type in regedit

I have provided 2 attachments of what things should exactly look like on a XP OS.

The 1st top listing (Default)(value not set) is pretty much normal for any and all registry entries.

See my Signature below for KeyCopy link details. KeyCopy will atleast tell you if a VB key currently exists in your registry. However, it cannot tell you if its a valid key value or entry.

Thanks once again for your interest. My register does indeed look like your atachments. I couldn't see your "signature below" so I am still in the dark as to what the KeyCopy link is. Also I'm running Windows 7 64bit, but I don't suppose it is that different from XP. Anyway I still can't make the darned thing work! If the register key is wrong what can I do about it?

    Regards

  15. Your particular issue shows all indication that your VideoBuilder Key has some sort of problem in its text composition, incorrect whitespace, or incomplete text content. Basically what is called damaged or corrupt content.

When the above issues are prevalent in any key file ... the Windows Registry wont actually enter the Key=Value into the registry. Therefore VideoBuilder may initially accept your key information but the Windows Registry isnt writng it permanently into the registry. Thats why VideoBuilder asks you to enter your Key each time of use because it does not see it in the registry.

To easily verify this action ... just open your Windows Registry and check the key setting entry in :

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WnSoft\VideoBuilder]

If the Key REG_SZ value is empty, missing, or incomplete ... theres some sort of corruption in your key file information content.

    or

You can just use/run KeyCopy utility tool and it will tell you if the VideoBuilder key information exists in the registry.

    ---

Do you have 1 Reg Key for both programs or 2 separate Reg Keys ?

Does your VideoBuilder Key document when opened with notepad show text content somewhat like this :

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WnSoft\VideoBuilder]

    "Key"=

*there is additional text info after the = sign which should be your actual Key Value.

    Thanks for this.

The only way I could find the Registry editor was via the Windows Help. Is there a quicker way?

Anyway I tried to do what you suggested but it hasn't worked, so I wondered if I am doing it correctly.

The file structure I can see in the registry looks like this:

It contains a folder called WnSoft wich contains a file Name, (Default). Type, REG_SZ. Data, (value not set).

This folder also contains a sub-folder with 2 files. The first is identical to the one above and the second is Name, Key. Type, REG_SZ. Data, which contains a string of characters which is the key Notepad tells me is for Video Builder. The different key for PTE does not appear anywhere.

I tried copying the Video Builder key into the two files which said (value not set) but it made no difference.

I am loathe to try messing about with the register in case I wreck it completely.

Do you know what this register should look like - I am sure it shouldn't say (value not set) and I am suspicious that the PTE key does not appear anywhere.

PS What is the KeyCopy utility?

  16. I am beginning to think that this is a problem with PTE. I have just carried out an experiment. I produced a very small Video with just 4 jpg images with a 4:3 aspect and a simple fade with no zoom or pan at medium quality. The whole thing lasting just 16 secs. I first created a simple exe file which ran perfectly. I then created an HD video for PC or Mac. Once again it asked for my key which I copied in again. I exited Video builder and tried again. This time it did not ask for my key. No create screen appeared but the task bar tab said somthing was going on. After a few mins the builder screen appeared and I could see the video being produced. When it was completed it ran perfectly on Windows Media Player.

Encouraged I produced a slightly more complicated show comprising 3 jpg images at higher definition in 16x9 HD format but keeping other conditions the same. This time the HD VIdeo process didn't ask for the key but appeared to run. This time when the video screen eventually appeared there were no pictures being processed just a black screen. When I tried to play it Windows said it couldn't run it.

Furthermore when I try to play the first mp4 video it now has "Created with unregistered version of VideoBuilder -= www.wnsoft.com. You need to upgrade to Deluxe edition of Pictures ToExe" blazoned across it.

Is there any solution in sight?

  17. Further info:

I tried once again to produce an mp4 file to play on Windows media player. I entered my key in Video builder (Once again!). It was accepted, as before, and so I exited VB and clicked "Create" again and the set-up screen appeared so I clicked OK. Once again the dialogue box disappeared but no "progress" screen appeared - just an ikon in the task bar saying "Creating HD...". Thus far the same as before. This time though I let it run and after a few minutes the progress screen appeared declaring the task completed. "Hooray" I thought and then tried to play the resulting file with Windows media player. No joy - just a black screen that ran for the approximate length of the slide show - about a minute. When I compared the file size I saw that while the files of the same sequence I had produced using XP on my old machine were around 50MBytes and displayed perfectly in Media Player, this one was only 69kBytes.

    Don't know if this helps!

  18. I too have this problem.

I have transferred PTE 6.0 to my new Windows 7 based machine. I had some trouble making the key work but eventually had a new key supplied.

The new key works fine for PTE but when I try to use the video builder to create a "HD Video for PC or Mac", it first asks for the key, which I insert, it then lets me go ahead but does not actually run. No action screen appears and Windows 7 then tells me that "Video builder is not responding".

When I retry it asks for the key again, it tells me that it has accepted it but when I run it the same fault occurs again.

    I am using Windows 7 V6.1 (Build7600) Home Premium 64bit with Intel ® corei&CPU 860@2.8GHZ and 8GB RAM - if that helps!

I bought such a high powered machine especially because my old one was taking 20min to process 1 min of video - C'est la Vie!

Incidentally and probably not connected I have similar problem with Photoshop CS3. When I reinstalled it on my new machine it wouldn't recognise my Nikon D700 Raw files (.NEF) so I downloaded the appropriate converter which had worked fine on my old machine. It works OK in Photoshop but does not work in Bridge. Unfortunately Adobe are extremely difficult to contact so I can't say if this is a general problem. Not strictly relevent to PTE but if anyone out there can help I would be very grateful!

Happy new year to one and all

  19. I am now getting a better idea of what is involved in getting an HD presentation on my Panasonic 50inch plasma TV. The size warrants getting the best definition I can. I have done some research on Bluray and have come to the conclusion that it would be a very expensive option and would also involve a fairly complicated series of conversions to get the best possible picture.

Ken’s suggestion, which involves making an avi, file would also involve getting a divx player and special software and, apart from the expense, would – I am told – only give the best definition if the avi file remained uncompressed. Apparently this would generate enormous files which might be unwieldy.

I am coming to the conclusion that the best solution would be to get a new laptop which will handle the 1920x1080 format and have an HDMI output.

Question: If I produce a normal exe file, assuming all the content is 16x9 aspect, and connect it to my TV via an HDMI interface from an appropriate laptop will I get full HD?

Note: I often insert images with higher definition than is necessary so that I can zoom in without loss of detail – will this be compromised in any way?

Thanks for all your interesting and informative comments.
