iPad Air2 - size of images

Recommended Posts

I ought to know the answer to this but, I don't so I need to ask the question.

The screen resolution of my iPad Air2 is 2048 x 1536 and I want to create my MP4 videos to fill the iPad screen (clearly not a wide screen)

What size and resolution should I crop my original images to?

I know that PTE provides some options for older iPads but I have never used them so far.

Any help would be appreciated.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and this was Igor's reply:

Hi Ray,

The screen of iPad Air is 2048x1536, aspect ratio is 4:3.

However all iPad devices can play video only up to 1920x1080:

"Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p"

http://www.apple.com/ipad-air-2/specs/

You have two variants:

1. Create 1920x1080 video (suggested by PicturesToExe by default).

2. Or create 1440x1080 video (4:3) which fills the entire screen of iPad without black strips.

In Video for mobile devices window click "Show more options" button and enter custom resolution: 1440x1080.'

So I now make my slide shows for this device at 1440 by 1080- and it fills the screen nicely!

Good advice Ray,

My primary concern is Video for TV so rather than have to make dual format shows I put up with the black lines on my wife's iPad.

She hasn't complained yet :)

But if video for the iPad is the primary objective then 1440x1080 is good advice.

Ray,

That advice is what I hoped for. I have now tried a test show at 1440x1080 and it looks great!

The retina display on the iPad really brings out the quality.

Thanks for your help.

Ron.
