Kabul - Troubled Times

Thanks Michel for your kind words.

The majority of these images were not taken

by my son. He works in Kabul for the Military

as a civilian. He got most of these images from

a friend. As far as he knows most of these images

were taken by various people stationed in Kabul

in the Military Forces and pooled together for viewing.

He is going back over to Kabul in 2 weeks and I

have asked him to investigate further to give the

proper credits to the original photographers if

possible.

Stunning photos and a brilliant slide show!

I was taken with many aspects of it. The nearly constant background noise of various aircraft, the sweetness of the children, the wonderful colors juxtaposed with the blandness of the buildings. Excellent work.

Just out of curiosity, there were a couple of shots of quite a few men on horseback in very close proximity. I'm showing my cultural ignorance, but was that a game (like polo or something) or some sort of conflict?

Thanks for sharing this.

Thankyou for your kind comments.

The game is the National Sport of Afghanistan

Buzkashi is a game that dates itself into Afghan antiquity. The name Buzkashi, literally translated means "goat killing" suggest it was derived from hunting mountain goats by champions on horseback. Today the rider (or team) who is able to pitch a dead calf across a goal line first wins. The game may last as long as a week and is as free-wheeling as the Afghan spirit
