  1. Hello: Have you cropped your images to the correct size in 16x9? If you don't shoot your images in 16x9 format you will have to crop your images not just resize them or they will appear in the wrong aspect ratio on your tv. I use the standard 1920x1080. Your DVD must be set to 16x9 format as most will still default to 4:3. Hope this helps you. Ralph Smith
  2. Ron the point I was trying to make was that whatever resolution you have it will always default to the native resolution of your TV. I assume you have a 42 inch plasma HDTV which is 1024x768 pixels for most. You are not getting 1080i on this TV. You would need a TV with native resolution of 1920x1080. Ralvis
  3. A few thoughts on my experience with Digtal TV From the tests I have done with my 42 inch Plasma I have found that creating a PROGRESSIVE Scan DVD show will give you the best quality for a 480p DVD Player. The bottom line is your digital TV will convert your input to it's native resolution eg. 42 Plasma HDTV 1024x Most LCD 1368x 1080p 1920x1080 I have tried resizing my images to my Plasma's native resolution instead of the 1920x1080 that I shoot in and I could not see any difference in quality. I have watched 1080p side by side with EDTV 852x at 9 feet I could not see any difference. If you go up and stand 2 feet away in some scenes you can see a little difference. I use my laptop connected through vga to view shows on my plasma. I would'nt be to concerned about 1080p TV. We don't even have the bandwidth for 1080i at the moment.
  4. This is a show I made in 2002 as a tribute to my Uncle George who was killed in a plane crash in France 2 days after WWII ended. I spent many hours mixing the sound for this show. There are some obvious flaws with the show but unfortunately I lost the project file when my Hardrive disintegragted. It was originally designed to be compact in size 3.6 megs so even people with modems could download it. The show was designed to run in 1024x768 screen size. The intro was done in Flash and the show in PTE 4. I hope anyone who watches this show will stop and think about all of those who sacrificed for us. Thankyou Ralvis Here is a link to the show Lest we Forget
  5. Thankyou for your kind comments. I have removed the Show from my webspace. Ralvis

  7. Hello All: Since Beechbrook has ran out of space, should we be looking at the file sizes we are creating? Do we really need over 10 megs to present our sequences.? If anybody need help on how to create smaller sequences feel free to email me. Anyway, since Beechbrook is full for the time being, here is an example of show optimized for size. Happy Easter to All FalseCreek Vancouver B.C. Canada

  13. Thankyou for your kind comments. The game is the National Sport of Afghanistan Buzkashi is a game that dates itself into Afghan antiquity. The name Buzkashi, literally translated means "goat killing" suggest it was derived from hunting mountain goats by champions on horseback. Today the rider (or team) who is able to pitch a dead calf across a goal line first wins. The game may last as long as a week and is as free-wheeling as the Afghan spirit Ralvis
  14. Thanks Michel for your kind words. The majority of these images were not taken by my son. He works in Kabul for the Military as a civilian. He got most of these images from a friend. As far as he knows most of these images were taken by various people stationed in Kabul in the Military Forces and pooled together for viewing. He is going back over to Kabul in 2 weeks and I have asked him to investigate further to give the proper credits to the original photographers if possible. Ralvis
  15. Each time a jpeg image is saved the image is degraded. This program will crop your jpeg image and not degrade the image when it saves the file. Ralvis
  16. These images were brought back from Kabul by my son. Hope you enjoy the show Comments welcome. Show has been moved. Thanks
  17. If any of you would like an easy method to crop your images this is the program for you. You can set any of the supplies profiles to the size you need and point the program to a folder of jpgs or load individual images. It will rename the orginal image and save in the same dir. It is lossless so there is no image degradation. Personally I prefer the 16x9 which is 1024x576 and also the motion pic 1024x512. Just edit an existing template and specify your crop size and then start cropping. here is the link to the freeware JPEGCrop Cheers Ralvis
  18. Hello Everyone. I tried to keep the size down for all of you with modems. The pictures were shot at the Quay in New Westminister B.C. Canada I did some work in PS8 and Ulead on these photos. My trusty G2 Canon seems to be acting up a bit. Can anybody tell me how to sneak an Canon Eos 10d in the door without my wife finding out? The music is from the 60's by a group called 3 Dog Night. Yes I guess I am stuck in the 60's. It was massaged with SoundForge 7. The intro is standard SwishMax. Hope you enjoy the show. Thanks again to Bill for hosting our shows. Ralph
  19. Dug through the memory banks and it took a while but eventually found it. It's called multires. Link
  20. Hi Glenys Most of the SDVD creation software will switch to 352x240 resolution when you have transitions in your show. Personally I don't use any transitions in my TV shows. A regular TV shows onlly 300 lines of resolution and even on SVHS only approx 400-500, no where near what a Computer does. The only T V I have seen that will look as good as the computer is the Sony. They have a few models with 1000 lines of res specifically for their digital camera. Some of Igors's effects don't look to bad on the TV. Best to use a CDRW and create a show and try the different effects to see which ones look the best for you. Even at DVD quality of 704x5?? you are still only using 300 lines of res on a regular TV. I usually create a XSVCD which is 704x5?? and there really isn't all that much difference between that and a regualar SVCD at 480x480. I think, at this time we need to develop two different stratagies for our shows. One for the pooter and one for the TV. Hope this helps you out. Ralvis
  21. Very well done show. The photography was superb. The music and sound mixing were exellent. The gorgeous women were kind of nice too. It is really nice to see a different culture from our own. Keep them coming and thankyou for sharing with us. Ralvis
  22. A song I was listening to jogged my memory or whats left of it, any way. This show is the result of that flashback. Zip file 3.5 megs has been virus scanned with Nortons. Ralph
  23. Very nicely done Alan. I really enjoyed watching your show. I felt very relaxed after the show. Ralvis
  24. Thankyou very much all for your kind comments and emails on my show. I hope that it will inspire someone else to do a tribute type show. Ralph Smith MicroSmith@1982
