Made AVI file then burned dvd-video

Thank you, I just downloaded it, and I am going to try it.

One other thing I was having an issue with is that I would make a slideshow with music. Make the AVI file. (I was selecting custom AVI) and then converting the file and burning it. When I put it in the dvd player I would get 2 or 3 pictures into the slideshow and the pictures would stop but the music would keep running. Is this the program that was doing this or my avi converter? I was using DVD Santa then went and got WinAVI. I was under the impression it was the converter. I was so desperate I was about to run out and get Ulead as well to fix this problem, or was it the program itself all along?

Thanks,

Phoebe

ok, I downloaded it, opened up the slide show in version 5.1 then converted the file in WinAVI then burned it in NERO on the DVD -Video setting. It is still doing the same thing! Any suggestions? I don't know HOW many CD's I have done through for this one slideshow and I am about to go crazy!

Phoebe,

I gather you do not have the Video Builder upgrade to create DVDs directly ?

opened up the slide show in version 5.1

You can not just open it up in version 5.1 ... you must also remake the avi using version 5.1

or

Have you Sync Music and Slides from PTE-Project Options|Main tab ... and opened Timeline and selected checkbox for Auto spread slides along music ?

I am sorry I left that part out, I did make a new AVI, or should I say DVD-video. Then proceeded with the process.

Well, as I finished that last sentence I thought I would go back and just recreate the whole slideshow. Now I am very upset because the ONLY transistion I use is the fade in fade out. I do children's portraits. This is not working anymore, it starts out fading in and fading out, then about the 5 picture in or so it just disapears and pops up. No I don't have that other program Video Builder, it cost extra $$ and I was under the impression that you did not have to have it. I have had this program for 3 or 4 years now and I loved it but now I am getting so fusterated I don't know what to do!

when you create the avi

the pte must still be open - running

then you must import the avi into a dvd authoring program ex - NERO DELUXE DVD SUITE - or similar

the pte must remain open/working until the burn process is complete

see the basic instructions here

Phoebe,

Do yourself two gigantic favors: First, buy some rewritable DVD's so regardless of which program you are using you don't make useless coasters. If you mess up you just keep using the same disk until you get it right. Second, get the Video Builder upgrade for $20. It's "much" less expensive than Ulead or other programs, you get two years free upgrades and with the money you save with "lifetime" free upgrades on the basic PTE program you are still way ahead. Video Builder is the "only" program which uses hardware rendering which makes it up to 400% faster than other products so you won't waste time.

There are numerous issue involved in making DVD's and too many variables unless you really know what you are doing it's much easier to do everything right in PTE because all components are designed to work with each other.

Best regards,

Lin

Thank you, If I can figure out why the "fade in fade" out won't work, and can get it working again I will pay for the VideoBuilder. Then I won't have to worry about which program to use or if it will work, ect..

I have some DVD RW's I just kept thinking every time it was going to work "this time!"

I apreciate all the support. I just hope to get this done today cause I am stressed wanting to get it done.

Phoebe,

It can test ones sanity.

Is this your first time using PTE 5.0/v5.1 ... and all others built using v4.8 ?

it starts out fading in and fading out, then about the 5 picture in or so it just disapears and pops up

My first impression is that your PC Video card can not handle D3D hardware acceleration that v5/v5.1 features. v4.8 does not have this feature. What specs of Video Card (make/model/ram) ?

In v5.1 disable checkbox in PTE-Project Options|Screen tab - Hardware Acceleration D3D ... test and verify if your slide show performs correctly. If plays correctly ... your PC videi card is not D3D capable.

* Not knowing how you exactly do your avi processing/conversions but Video Builder should produce much better quality DVD/Mpeg files than using the custom avi conversions. In Video Builder you can make Mpeg files instead of burn to DVD to first verify result ... once satisfied then burn to final DVD.

Yes this is my first time using anything above 4.8. I downloaded 5.0 but never used it, then I found this version available and thought I would give it a whirl.

Well before I got this email I uninstalled then reinstalled the program. Thinking that would fix it. It did but now the music is garbled in certain areas of the show. I unchecked the Hardware Acceleration D3D button and the same thing happened. I have a good computer cause I run photoshop on it, it handles most anything. I know I have either 1 or 2 gigs of ram.

My husband is going to check the sound next. I will never get this done. :(

Well, I hope it isn't to soon to speak but I am happy to say that I tried the trial version of the video builder and loved it. You can watch your slideshow convert right there. I played the copyrighted dvd back on my computer and everything was in tact. I then purchased it and now waiting on my serial number email, I hope it doesn't take to long it is usually instant.

I thank you all for all your wonderful support and quick responses.

For the one who told me about the Hardware Acceleration D3D check box, I went back and for some reason it was still checked. I unchecked it and my music wasn't garbled anymore. I am just happy that I think I might be done with this thing.

My next headache is learning the timeline with multiple songs. I got this one figured out to stop at the first song that I wanted it to, but I can't figure out if I want several songs with different themes.

Such as..

Childhood -Song 1

Teen years - Song 2

Wedding- Song 3

Children- song 4

&

40th birthday- Song 5

Hi Phoebe,

In my opinion the simplest way to have several pieces of background music with your AV sequence is to use a separate sound editor program to "stitch" them together. There is an excellent free sound editor called Audacity which you can download from: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ If you go down this route and find yourself struggling with it, I'd be happy to accept direct e-mail questions.

Phoebe,

Glad you got it sorted ... v5 will be a little different in some of its settings than what you may be accustom to using in v4.

To properly use and enjoy the new Pan/Zoom/Rotate features v5 offers ... requires Hardware Acceleration D3D capable video card.

I have a good computer cause I run photoshop on it, it handles most anything. I know I have either 1 or 2 gigs of ram.

Photoshop does not utilize Hardware Acceleration D3D ... it will utilize your pc ram. Video cards have their own ram also ... some are shared and some are dedicated. If your pc can play alot of the newer graphical games out ... your video card is up to the task for use in PTE using D3D. This is why your video card make/model/ram specs are important.

* Hardware Acceleration D3D in Video Builder also greatly improves the time/speed of compilation DVD/Mepg. You will be amazed how much faster you can creat/burn your DVD shows. :P
