  1. Gobsmacked I am! I thought my pentium was reasonably fast! I downloaded your template Dave, and it's running on my machine now, has been for about 10 minutes. Your comp compiled it in under 4 minutes - mine is predicting EIGHT HOURS!!! That can't be right, there has to be a problem somewhere, surely?

What are the specs of your computer Dave?

    Chagrined regards,

    Colin

    Colin,

Just to add another benchmark. I'm running with Windsows XP, Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz, Nvidia GeForce 7300LE. This is probably an inferior spec to your system.

Using PTE 7.0. Video Builder compilation of 12 minute, 112MB, 130 slides takes 30 minutes.

I suggest you review your Videobuilder Project Options settings, perhaps show us a screenshot.

  2. Could it be Wnsofts D error :unsure:/>/>/>/> :unsure:/>/>/>/> :unsure:/>/>/>/>

    Yachtsman1.

Just had another think about now two similar situations with Youtube. When I click the link my show Matchstalk Men My way plays, however when I uploaded it I ticked the private box & various other things I don't usually tick. I also tagged it with PTE & Audacity, maybe it's a Google bug, strange, anyone else found a problem. :blink:/>/> :blink:/>/> :blink:/>/>

Yes Eric. The Youtube video available for download in your message is the last one I was streaming from Youtube yesterday, nothing to do with your video.

Not a glitch at your end Dave.

  3. Hi everyone

I'm fairly new to PTE although learning fast, so please excuse my question if it has already been asked before. I've searched the forum but can't find any reference to it.

I would like to know if a background colour can be added to text boxes so that captions can easily be read in situations where the colour of the text tends to blend with those on a similarly coloured picture. I realise that a coloured rectangle of the same size could be placed behind a text box but this would be very fiddly to do for every slide - or can the two be locked together?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello Michael,

My solution to this problem, and it works in most cases, is to add a contrasting Drop-Shadow to the text. This option is available in both Project Options, Comments, and when adding text in Objects and Animation.

  4. I typically use PTE Video Builder to create only an ISO file. Then I use this free, open-source software to actually burn the DVDs. http://infrarecorder.org/ I do have Roxio Easy Media 8 software and have previously used it, but the free InfraRecorder program seems to be a lot easier to use and is more trouble-free. I then store the ISO file on a backup disk and can burn additional DVDs anytime I need to.

If you are using Video Builder, why don't you burn your DVD from the ISO file using Video Builder? Or am I missing something here?

  5. and then compressed to Flash with Moyea's FlashVideo MX Standard. Original PTE AVI file size 158mb. Flash file 56mb (converted in FlashVideo MX with the h264 codec).

Want to know if the file streamed immediately and smoothly, because it is a large file...and also if you have a less powerful computer in the house how it ran on that computer.

(This was created for Shebang's owner, who was quite devastated when she died, and asked me to put together a slideshow with her pictures. Some of her friends have Macs and couldn't see it.)

    Thanks for anticipated feedback.

    Isabel

    Hi Isabel,

No worries on low power machine. Streamed perfectly on netbook with atom processor and 1GB RAM.

  6. (On a MODERN DVD player it should not make a difference. Standard DVD players are now PAL/NTSC compatible. At least that's been the the case over here in the UK for a few years)

Not in North America Dave. Standard store bought DVD players are NTSC only.

  7. Hello again John.

It is possible to set different Comment attributes for each slide.

Set your requirements in Project Options for your landscape slides and DO NOT select "Set for existing slides". Title your landscape slides with these settings. Change attributes and do your portrait slides.

    Hope it works OK,

    Regards

  8. John

My suggestion does not put the same comment on each slide.

Main Window, top of screen "Comment" (Caption/Title). Whatever you put in here is only for the displayed slide. Progress through your slides adding comments as required, not necessarily on every slide. You can return to the Main Window at any time to edit a comment.

In "Project Options" you can then set the attributes for all of the comments; position, font, size etc. "Set for existing slides".

  9. Hello John,

Perhaps I have misunderstood your requirements, but is there any reason why you can't add your slide titles via the "comments" box in the main window. Then set font, size, location etc. in "project options".

P.S. I'm using PTE 5.5 if that makes any difference.

    Regards,

    Limey

  10. Jeff & Xaver,

    I'm using Ver 5.5

Auto Font Quality only seems to maintain the quality of a text object that is Zoomed. If unselected and a low number is manually inserted in the box, the text quality deteriorates when size is increased by zoom. I fail to see the utility of this.

I agree with Jeff that it would be useful to be able to specify a consistent font size instead of having to change the size of the text box each time.

  11. Hi mcinal,

    >>I have verified the customize music dialog box and left the default settings of fade in = 100, fade out = 10000. My understanding of this customize setting is that the menu music should fade in at 100 ms and fade out in 10 seconds and repeat that fade in and fade out as long as the menu is left displayed on the TV. Is this correct?<<

Could you try again leaving the above settings at their default values, fade in 100ms and fade out 100ms. My interpretaion of these settings is that they represent the 'length' of the fade not the 'time' the fade occurs. So you have 10.1 seconds of fade in/out on 10 seconds of music.

    Hope this helps.

  12. Ok - I'm new to this program - but when I made my first DVD for TV display - the images are soft and disproportionally squeezed! The images in the slide show creation and preview are perfect - but are terrible when burned to DVD. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello Craig,

Have you checked the quality of your images when the DVD is played on a TV? I think this should be the first step before messing about with PTE settings.

  13. Great show John, definitely a keeper.

Having visited all the locales in your show I have one small criticism. The photos of the Pinnacles and Remarkables suffer from having nothing in the frame to give the viewer an idea of scale of these objects.

    Warmest Regards,

    Limey.
