>Try "left-clicking" on the timeline instead of "right-clicking". When I "right-click", the moving triangle moves to the point of the cursor OK, but I also get a menu window.<
Thanks for the correction Al, I meant "Left Click", it's the Green Christmas here in Montreal confusing me, or too much egg-nog.
Compliments of the season,

Not working for me. See this screen grab...
http://www.pbase.com/isabel95/image/71995256
I hit play and then pause so I can drag till near the end of the program, then hit play
and the program starts playing from the first slide.
And...although I chose in the project options to synchronize the music to the length of the music. I can't get it to change from 4 seconds between pictures and with 30 pictures and 5+ minutes of music it's just showing 4 seconds between pictures.
I'm completely confused.
I don't remember having this much trouble with previous versions of PTE.
I appreciate your input.
Isabel
Hi Isabel,
After 'Pause', scroll (don't drag the blue arrow) to the point in the timeline that you require, right click on the timeline and select 'Play'.
I'm still thinking about your second issue.

Embarrassed to say it's been a long time since I've used PTE and I'm having a bit of a problem in adjusting the timely. I'm updated to version 4.48.
I drag the triangle to a point near the end of the timeline because I want to preview from that point and the show always starts at the beginning.
What's the secret to get it to play from that point?
TIA.
Isabel
Hello Isabel,
To play from any point in the timeline. First select 'Play', this will start playback from the beginning. Then right click on the timeline at the point you wish and the playback will restart from there.

Oops, DaveG is a faster typist, I'm glad we agree.

Even with latest Beta 8e, on a successfully burned DVD, some PTE shows do not show as photos in the Menu (thumbnail) windows. For example - on DVD I burned of 8 PTE shows. On menu, shows #1, #2, #3, and #6 show up as black thumbnails in the DVD menu screen. All the shows play fine.
Do we know why?
LumenLux,
I had a similar problem with a black frame or wrong frame showing on menu slides. My problem was fixed by unselecting 'animated menu' option in Project Options. This option is 'on' by default

Still getting only coasters. I've tried several PTE files and the burn appears to go in a normal fashion. I've selected NTSC (the correct format in my country) and the creation of the MPEG 2 appears to progress normally. When finished the burn process begins and eveything ends with the check mark but nothing works. The DVD's won't read either in the computer or on external DVD players connected to TV's so I guess I'll just wait to see if others have success and try to figure it out. Windows media player recognizes the presence of the DVD and pulls up the player on request, but from there it's just as if there were no media in the player.
Perhaps I'll try to burn an AVI to DVD rather than use a PTE file and will try the ISO. The DVD blanks work perfectly with other software so there are no know hardware issues. If the AVI to DVD doesn't work for me I'll stop until I get some more information because it's getting expensive - LOL.
Best regards.

I have half of your problem. I can play DVD on my computer but DVD player connected to TV gives me a 'wrong disc' message. I have tried both burning PTE file and burning AVI. Same result.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the welcome!
I'm using P2E version 4.48, and here's where I am after your suggestions:
I've added the voice over as one long track to the whole show. You said "enable permit control of show" but I can't do that unless I tell it to synchronize first.
So, in Project Options, I have checked "permit control of the show", which you can only select if you first select "synchronize slideshow to music duration." Once I do that, I can select "customize synchronization," and move the slides around to get the right portion of the voice track to be with the right slide, but this means that the slide will change when the voice track says it's time, whether the user is ready to move on or not.
You said to not sync it if I wanted the user to have control, but if I don't sync it then the voice track just keeps playing on, no matter what the user does with the slides.
I do have a navigation bar, but I hadn't put a pause button on it, since the if the user is in complete control of the advance of the slides, it really isn't necessary.
So, this isn't working the way I need it to work. Do I need to add the voice tracks singly to each slide then? And how do I keep it from looping the tracks if I do that?
Thanks for your help!'
Nadine
Hi Nadine
I don't know if this will help but with similar requirements I do the following:
Synchronise show
User control, Left mouse click=Pause, Rt click = previous slide)
Individual sound track for each slide
(ensure slide time is longer than sound bite because when you hit Pause everything stops).
I use this method because with my shows I only need to Pause or Go Back at audience request but it may work for you too.

Hello TCG
I think you can accomplish this without Customising the slide.
The way I do this is to select the relevant slide from the slide list, then click on the folder icon on the right of the 'sound' row beneath the slide list and browse to open the required sound.

hello Eric,
Do you want the shows to repeat when you return to the initial slide, i.e. when show "A" goes back to slide 2, do you want it to stop at slide 2 or repeat the show?

Project Options> Advanced. Select 'Auto Hide Mouse Cursor After' 'x' seconds.
Mouse arrow will not be visible during show until you move the mouse
Will this solve your problem?

Jim,
I'm having a similar problem, may or may not be related.
Background music in synch mode does not align with timeline. Please check your background music against 'waveform' in timeline, this is where I noticed discrepancy.
I resolved this by loading music file from hard drive (Real Jiukebox) into "Audacity" and exporting back as MP3 with no editing. This file works O.K.
Perhaps one of our audio experts can comment on this.

I think the program you are looking for is "PaintStudio Lite"
Still available for download on many sites.

Small Bug? Could someone confirm this please.
Scroll Bars in File List & Slide list only advance 'one line' when clicked above or below the 'handle'.

For Ron.
File extensions are usually hidden by default.
Select 'My Computer' 'View' 'Folder Options' 'View' then uncheck 'Hide File extensions'. You can then change file extension using 'rename'. This is for Windows 98 but I'm sure it must be similar for whichever OS you are using.

"Project Options". "Main". Select "display slides in random order" This option is Grayed-out if Synchronize is selected.
However, with the ability to "display each slide for" xx seconds it's not a difficult calculation. One caveat is that non-synchronized shows can play differently on different computers.
Cheers.

O.K. Al,
So people in Ottawa type faster than us in Montreal
I'm glad we had the same answer.

Hello Mediator,
I think the easiest way around this is to make your first slide(s) as a separate, .exe file with the option selected from 'Main' to 'keep last slide on screen'. You can then use your buttons and links on this slide to select whatever you choose.
I hope this is of some help.

Just one more thing Sue.
You do not have to 'Customize' slide.
WAV, MP3 etc. all will work.
-
Adding sound to individual slides.
Select slide in Slide List
Below the slide list panel, select icon on right of 'Sound' panel
Browse to find your sound file and open
That's it

Problem when using sound comment for individual slides. I have recreated some old slide shows using v4.10 beta #2. Synched shows with small mp3 files (birdsongs) associated with about half the slides. This has resulted in brief (1/10 sec) but consistent hang ups, only on slides with associated mp3 files. I resaved the shows using v4.00 and the problem disappeared.

The symptoms you describe will appear if your show is longer than your screensaver setting. Check your 'Display Properties' to ensure that your 'Screensaver' delay is longer than your slideshow.

Robert
For noise removal in "Audacity" select 'Effect"
It's in the menu.

Before the release of the latest beta.
I have noticed a difference in synchronisation between using internal and external player.
I create all slide shows with external player selected. I then also save a version of the show with internal player selected, giving viewers the choice if they run into problems.
When playing the shows from the Time Line there is NO DIFFERENCE. When previewing a show from a selected slide on the time line, or from a selected slide on the main page slide list, there is a difference. I have tried this with several shows. I reinstalled the first version of PTE that had the time line, (can't remember the version number), and found the same discrepancy.
Magnitude of discrepancy appears to be dependent on length of show.
Please check.
Thanks, Limey.

Al, I get the same results as Guido.

positioning objects for different resolution screens

Assuming you are using PTE 4.xx.
In 'Object Editor' Select 'Preview in' and select lowest screen resolution you think will be used. Group your objects and text so thay all are visible. Then select all objects, Left click/Ctrl and then select 'Group'.
The objects will now stay in the same position relative to each other with no overlap.
