Yes Al, I completely agree with your synopsis, that's my thinking also, and on occassion I have 'Illegally Named' a File and kicked myself afterwards ! Sven, Its really up to yourself to methodically 'trawl' through the 'Slide List' and in particular look for "Image Files of 1.Kilobit" ~ that indicates a misplaced Image. Also take note of Als' suggestion about the 'Object Editor' and misplaced 'objects'. Now speaking for myself there is little more I can suggest except that you take particular note of Al's comments ~ He does know this Program backwards ! Brian.Conflow.

Lumenlux, I wrote:- When I say missing, 'it may have been deleted', or it may have been 'misplaced' you may have 'Uninstalled' a Program which left behind a 'File of Types' entry which makes the PC look for the missing Program Dll. Firstly, Microsoft Operating Systems DO NOT give nuisance 'error messages' ~ if it says there is a problem you better believe it, and in particular "Failed to Load Resource DLL" it means just that ! The fact of the matter is that something is 'stuck-in' the 'File of Types Register' which is pointing to a Utility or part of a Utility which is no longer accessible to the PC. (See quote above ~ Study carefully) You said you had a problem with Cc Cleaner which would not run ~ but it now appears to run ? Well thats your clue ! Exactly what happened to make Ccleaner fail to operate ? ~ Its my guess that you downloaded something and then Uninstalled it and then used Ccleaner to tidy up. However on this occassion it made a 'cock-up' or something 'messed it up' and in the process removed/misplaced that DLL. By the way Ccleaner can not repair nor replace something that has been removed or misplaced. Now try this:- Go to the Ccleaner Folder, open it-->select 'Tools' from Top Toolbar-->select 'Folder Options'-->select 'View Tab'-->find 'Hidden Files & Folders-->make sure 'Show Hidden Files & Folders' is "Ticked" now close the Folder. Now re-open the Folder again and count the number of DLL's therin ~ make a Note of this. Now go to any other PC with Ccleaner installed ~ do exactly as above and compare the number of Dll's on each PC. If they are the same it's not Ccleaner but some other Utility at fault and now its back to trying to remember what you were doing over the past while. A 'Tip' ~ Open your Program Folder and 'trawl' through it, looking for any Folder that you recently Uninstalled, yes its a 'paradox' but many Uninstalled Programs leave Folders behind them. Take a Note, and let me know your progress. Brian.Conflow.

Ronnie, My god that was 'quick' ~ hadn't even noticed it ~ will edit....I'm still laughing. If you are happy using 'Snag-it' by all means do so, its a good Program ~ Just be aware that it can be 'exploited' just like Internet Explorer or Adobe Acrobat or for that matter the same applies to any 'Interactive Comms Program'. The problem with Snag-it is when you come to Uninstall it, thats 'tricky' to say the least, and don't attempt to do so without expert advice. The same applies to Norton/Symantec, its a nightmare ! Brian.Conflow.

Al and Sven Al, Thanks for that 'Tip' thats gone into my 'Tips Journal' You know, that problem with Sven's AVI has me 'foxed' ~ The System is saying that he called a function at that Address No:533228 and having Read the Location it returned:000000, which means there's nothing there to return, so the Program is hanging. It could be that there's:- Nothing there, or it can't be Read (unidentified File) or an Illegal File Name (with symbol *+/"^# etc). Your longer engaged in the PTE.Program than I am, and perhaps you have come across something like the above in your PTE.Travels ? I know for a fact ~ that in the past ~ I had a similar problem and for the life of me I can't remember how I resolved it ? Have you any ideas..... Brian.
-
Yes Ronnie, I am refering to the 'Snag-It' Program which you use ~and furthermore~ I had advised Igor about this Program some months ago. 'Snag-It' does NOT HAVE a clean 'Uninstaller'. It leaves behind a number of 'Snagit.dll's' and copies of Microsoft.dll's ~ one in particular which if removed can cause a 'System Failure' Furthermore, 'Snagit' IS NOT a simple 'Screen Capture' program ~ Its a highly sophisticated Program with 'Auto-Communication Utilities' built into it and boast a fairly decent Graphics Editor which used Microsoft 'Look-Alike' System dll's and a powerful Auto.Exe which you can use for communication's...so can the hackers ! Treat 'Snagit' for what it is ~ It's a full blown program capable of Graphics Editorials and Communications and can be 'Hacked' ~ whereas a simple 'PSSR Screen Capture' can't. Some time ago when you had a serious PC.Problem I asked you to 'Turn-Off' Snagit as it can support a combined 'Trojan/Coolweb Infection' because of the type of dll's it uses and it's ability to replicate them...do you remember ?? Maureen, The simple problem is the fact that "Microsoft Corporation" own your Operating System and you are Licenced to use it. For the past 2 years Microsoft have done their level best to secure XP, 2000, 2003 and their final system "Vista". They even brought out Microsoft Beta-1 and Microsoft Defender, two superb 'System Protection Programs' having spent $.Millions acquiring the Giant Corporation to lead the way. They were instrumental in setting-up the 'Global Spynet Community' which is a Co-Operative of Anti-Spyway Producers. At that time it was agree that those 3rd Party Vendors would submit 'Upgrades' for Test & Compatibility Certification, this being so, that such Upgrades would not cause problems with Microsoft Operating Systems and their Licenced Products. Considering that they own the 'Operating Systems' I would consider that request to be fair and above board. After all, you wouldn't like it if someone compromised your own A/V productions for their personal gain ?? If one examines the latest version's of Grisoft A/V and Spybot and XoftSpy and other Contributor/Members to the Spynet Community, my lord, haven't those Anti-Virus Programs really excelled themselves ? and one must ask why ? The answer is very simple, they now share the resources of the 'SpyNet Co-Operative Community' and if that isn't "self-Help" what is ? Then there are others (who should know better) who decided to "do their own thing" and one in particular is the biggest Vendor of Ant-Virus products who is causing 'contention issues' since 2004. No names mentioned. Microsoft ALWAYS issue specific instructions for Downloads, and yes, the Automatic-Downloads were an excellent idea until the independent "mavericks" with their own vested domination interests, threw a spanner in the works. Yes you are correct, use Notify before Download then connect to the MS.Server and you will have no Problems once you disable the Anti-Virus and other 'open-programs'. Adobe Acrobat Reader Yes it has a 'Closedown Problem' ~ After opening a Pdf.Document it 'tends' to stay open in the background and you can spot this when you go to 'Shut-Down the PC' ~ the shut-down process is longer than usual. These days I have the 'Adobe Icon' on the desktop and I shut it down from there, sometimes I even resort to the Task Manager. Hope this explains the background to Automatic-Downloads... Brian.Conflow.

Sven, As I was replying to Lumenlux and Maureen your Posting caught my eye... 'Access Violation' usually means you have left something 'open' in the PTE Program or you 'omitted' to complete a 'called command' such as installing an Audio file in a location you had chosen but the source of the Audio file is no longer available. Perhaps you were trying to open a File that was already open, then abandoned the Program ? When you reopen PTE again look at the bottom 'Taskbar' on your Monitor and RH.Clk each Logo and select Exit for each, this usually shuts down anything that was left open. If this doesn't work you will have to open the PTE.Job you were working on and systematically go through the Images & Audio files and find the missing entry. Alternatively go into 'Task Manager' (RH.Clk the Clock Time) and find Task Manager-->Application--> and what's open and "End" it from there. Brian.Conflow.

Hi Maureen, Just read your Post concerning "Wasted Life".....join the gang. We here at Conflow Services also had the same problems over the past 1½ Years until we decided to bite the bullet some 6 months ago. Like you and many others we also were blaming 'Microsoft Upgrades' and nothing could be further from the truth. In fact the 'problems' lie with 3rd Part Vendors who refuse to submit their own Upgrades to Microsoft and the Spynet Community for 'Approval/Testing/Certification' prior to releasing their Upgrades. So what we have here is a "Contention Issue" made worse by PC Users who won't "Switch-Off" running Programs prior to the Microsoft Upgrades being Installed ~ This contary to Microsoft Instructions. Things such as Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Adobe Acrobat MUST BE DISABLED prior to an MS Upgrade. There is no risk in this ONCE you are connected to the Microsoft Upgrade Site because this is a 'Secure 128Bit Encrypt Connection' ~ simply get on to the Source Site, then disable your AntiVirus and close Adobe Acrobat and proceed with the Downloads. Restart the PC and you will find that Microsoft has corrected and re-registered those Programs and sorted out the "holes" in them. Now sometimes the Anti-Virus Programs reset the Security/Privacy Tabs in Internet Explorer to 'Custom' which causes problems ~ try this:- In your case open your Search Page, select 'Tools' on the top Toolbar-->Internet Options-->now view the Security and Privacy Tabs and make sure both are set to "Medium"-->Thats 1 Notch under the Custom setting--> Now hit Apply and O.K that usually sorts out most erratic connections. Now make sure you 're-start' your Anti-Virus etc; We have been following this procedure over the past 6 Months and we have absolutely no problems with any Microsoft Upgrades nor anything else for that matter. Hope this helps.... Brian.Conflow.

Lumenlux, A DLL (Dynamic Linked Library) is a 'look-up' Data Folio which contains data or instructions for a Program to execute a particular task. In your case the PC appears to be running O.K. except for this problem ? The PC Registry has a Folder called 'File of Types' which contains a list of 'File & DLL Extensions' which are like Car Registration Numbers. (Plus hundreds of other File type extensions) These uniquely identify all the Exe's and DLL Files which are or have been exectued on the PC. Sometimes an Exe or a DLL goes missing but the Reg.No is still in the List and consequently the PC is still looking for the the missing component. What's missing is a 'System DLL File' or a 'Program DLL File' ~ When I say missing, 'it may have been deleted', or it may have been 'misplaced' you may have 'Uninstalled' a Program which left behind a 'File of Types' Registry entry which makes the PC look for the missing Program. 1) The first thing to do is try and find the Name or Label of the DLL (example: msn.32.dll). If you find its Name you do a "Search' for it. START Button-->Search/Find-->Files & Folders-->when the Search Window opens type in its name and run a Search. If it comes up 'blank' the DLL is not there but the Reg.Extension is still in the 'File of Types' 2) Now the nasty part ~ to find the File Extension, if its a DLL.extension ~ DONT DO IT ~ get yourself an Automatic Registry Cleaner and let it do the dirty work to clear out 'Orphan Files'. A Registry Cleaner knows what to do in these circumstances. Case example:- A Program called 'Snag-It' when Uninstalled, leaves behind dangerous copy DLL's which if removed can damage the Operating System. On account of these some PC's still keep looking for the Program even though it has been Uninstalled. Hope this is of some help to you.... Brian.Conflow.

Boogie If you go to the 'Conflow' Postings you will find accurate instructions as how to 'Check' that Autorun is enabled on your PC. Topic:- CD Autorun Utility (started by Conflow) you need to scroll down and find the Instructions. Brian.Conflow.

Bill Both Al, Ken and I are trying to help you, but you seem to be 'jumping' from Billy to Jack and tieing yourself up in knots ~ Firstly every 'Autorun Program' has its own configuration, some simple, some complex depending on what they have to do. I don't recommend you use RJL, its not for you at this point in time ! Most Music CD's 'kick-start' themselves through the Windows Media Player or through the (inbuilt) CD Player which came packaged with your Operating System. That's no guarantee that a 'CD-Data Disc' like a PTE.Show is going to 'auto-start' ~ so I ask again is the CD-Rom Autostart actually 'enabled' on your PC ? Lets get simple with this ~ but to do this I need to ask other questions AND get answers:- 1) Are you using CD Autorun Assistant ~ please, yes or no ~ it was recommended to you ? 2) Please give me a Folder Name where you are 'parking' all the components of your PTE.Show ? 3) Please 'List' ALL the components within that Named Folder ? 4) Where is this Named Folder located ? ~ is it within another Folder, try be very accurate about this. 5) What 'Burner Software' are you using ? 6) How are you getting ALL the Named Folder contents into the 'Burner Software Loading Window' Please be very 'specific' with your answer. If we can get accurate answers to these questions then we are half-way Home and we can help you. If you would like to contact me "Off-Forum" please send me an EMail. Press the "PM Button" lower left side of this Window and script your EMail & Send. Brian.Conflow

Computer problems after downloading/registering
Conflow replied to Teri F.'s topic in General Discussion
Hi Terry, Recently within the past 10 day's there have been a 'few nasties' floating around the Internet which prompted Microsoft and Norton and Spybot and Microsoft Defender to issue "emergency patches" which is quite out of character for these Corporations as they usually issue upgrades on scheduled dates ! You said (quote)...I had hundreds of .exe's in my computer, working, causing havoc, and you have to contineously restore....(unquote) I hate to say this, but these points to a 'Trojan/Coolweb Multiplication Infection' (possibly the new Banker infection) which hits BHO Helper Objects within the Google Search Page and then migrates into the PC. This may be the cause of your problems ~ and that's a likely may-be ! May I ask, what 'Anti-Virus Software' are you running ? and when was it last updated ? and has the PC been scanned for the newer 'Coolwebsearch Infections ? I say this with the best of intentions before you are driven to doing something 'rash' with the real possibility of damaging your 'New Operating System' Brian.Conflow. P.S. Norton had an contention issue last Tuesday, which they promptly corrected on Wednesday. -
Bill and Al Just a possibility.... The other 'Autorun Topic' running parallel to this thread may just have the 'Answer' as to why your 'New Autorun Utility' is not working,viz:- (1) Questions to Bill:- What 'Autorun Utility' did you download, please let me know as these utilities are virtually 'bomb-proof' ? (2) Question to Bill:- (Prompted by the other thread on this subject) Have you got the CD.Autorun ~ CD.Autoplay actually 'switched-on' within your PC ? (3) If unsure,do as follows:- Select:- START Button-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Find 'System'-->Double.Clk-it-->Choose-->Hardware Tab and then-->Device Manager-->when Screen opens-->find DVD/CD Drives, now Clk the little + Button and select the 'offending Drive'-->Rh.Clk on it and select Properties 'General Tab' and at the end of that Screen within the Strip Window make sure that 'Device Usage' is enabled with a 'Tick' within that Window. (apply,O.K etc, etc) and close all Windows and Restart the PC. (Print this out as a Memo) That 'fixes' the switched-off problem, should the CD-Autorun be switched off by Software within the PC. Brian.Conflow.

Hi Al, I appreciate that, what I was trying to differentiate was:- The ability of those who can make a "Working Icon and Autorun.Inf" and those who find it very extremely difficult to do so and would prefer to avoid that exercise at all costs. 'Autorun CD-Assistant' has 15 ready-made Icons in it's Icon Folder which one can use immediately. 'Autorun CD-Assistant' is sheer simplicity for the 1st Time User with its 'self-check' ability coupled with its 'Self-Instruction Interface' and it works. The 'RJL Autorun Utility' is also featured on the Web-Link I Posted (List on RH.Side) it's more advanced than the simple '5 Step Utility' of Autorun CD-Assistant. I don't want to get into comparisons here, that's why I recommended 'Autorun CD-Assistant' for the 1st.Time user, its so simple ~ Brian.Conflow.

Hi Bill and Al, Bill, Bill the 'Autorun Assistant Program' has 15 Icons inside its 'Icon Folder' which you can select and use. You can also use the' PTE Slideshow Icon' - the little 'Blue Box which is generated when you make a Pte.exe. Al, I do appreciate that you can make your own Autorun and Icon, but as you are aware it only takes 'one slip' in the written syntax and it won't work. Then there are problems with (odd-ball) Text Fonts which many PCs simply won't recognise and the CD won't Autorun. Then other PCs won't verify the Autorun Process once the containing Folder is open and in use, example:- Ronnies' recent problem. Benefit's The beauty of this little 'Autorun CD Assistant Program' is that it verifies the operational integrity of the CD Autorun process before you Burn it to Disc, so you save yourself the costs and loss of a valuable PTE.Exe Program Disc which won't Autorun. Furthermore its a 'nifty' little Utility for those who don't want the bother of writing an Autorun.inf and Dat.File. Additional OOps ! ~ I forgot to add, that this little Utility will also Autorun a 'stored' Web Page from the burnt CD-Disc, thats very useful for those who have a Web Site and want it as part of their PTE Presentation. Hope this explains all... Brian.Conflow.

Hi All, Have just been reading the Post on the topic "CD Autorun etc"..... I note that Ronnie can now make an 'Autrun File' and 'Autorun CD' but it fails to operate on his personal PC but will operate on other PC's ~ something wrong here ? Anyway, some of you might like to try this 'Free Utility' from www.snapfiles.com...Autorun CD Assistant. Above is a 'Screen-Shot' of the Program and a Link to it. http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/AutorunCD...uncdassist.html This Web-Site also has a list of other Auto-Run Utilities including "Autorun-Powerpoint" Brian.Conflow.

Michael, If you send me an EMail (Off-Forum) via Broadband (Not Hotmail nor FreeMail) I can let you have a (short-form) Copy of our EULA. By the way your Lawyer's are quite correct ~ even in Europe its obligitory to include a EULA File into any Distributable Media even of your own making, this to cover your Work and any other 3rd Party Works used in the construction of your Distributable Media. Quite rightly so ! Brian.Conflow.

CHAS Let me try and help Jean Pierre with his English ~ I wish my French was as good. 1) Decide if you wish to use WAV Files or Mp3 Files in your Presentation ? 2) Decide on a 'Bitrate' ~ 128Kbps is a good overall compromise. 3) If you wish to use Mp3 Files you must download an Mp3 Encoder ~ Lame Mp3 Encoder is adequate, and this is best installed into the Audacity Folder. 4) You can get this from www.free-codecs.com - When the Web Page opens, find the word DOWNLOAD (black print in grey stripe in middle of page) Click on the word Download and the download page will open up. Select the Lame 3.97 Version and download the Zip File into 'My Documents'. 5) Now drag the Zip File into the 'Audacity Folder' and then "unzip" it within the Audacity Folder (simply double-click it and WinZip will unzip it) Make sure its being unzipped into the Audacity Folder. 6) Re-start your PC and select the Audacity Program. Audacity will recognise the "unzipped-file" and ask your permission to use it. 7) If you have any problems, contact me 'Off-Forum' with an ISP Broadband Address (not Hotmail or Free-Mail) and I shall send you a copy of the Lame Encoder as a Zip File. Hope this helps.... Brian.Conflow. conflow@eircom.net

Hello Ruth, Yes, there is an excellent Free-Ware Program called "PIXresizer" available from www.bluefive.pair.com which does exactly what you want...Batch Re-Sizing and all... When you open the Web-Page its about half way down within the Script, its about 3.3 Megabyte size and does all common image Formats plus Web Resizing etc; and lots more. Brian.Conflow.

CHAS Many thanks for your acknowledgement reply ~ I had rather guessed that you were not familiar with 'Bitrates' etc,etc ~ Most 'New Users' have the same problem. Like everything in Life we are always learning something new and may I take this oppurtunity to wish you success with the PTE Presentation and don't burn too-much midnight oil over the Holiday. Have a Happy Easter, Brian.Conflow.

Jean Pierre, Yes I do understand, I also do 'Comparison Test' on 'Data Streams' (including Music) ~ the Files I work with are 'Data PWM' and 'Data PCM' in the audio range of 600.Hz ~ 10000.Hz for Electric Locomotive Power Controllers. These 'Data Streams' are usually collected by Telog Data Loggers and then transfered to PC and then converted to WAV or Mp3 or RAW Formats for further analysis using Nero Wave Editor and a PTE Presentation so Engineers can see and hear what's going on. This is a very unique use of PTE in an Industrial Application ~ I also use PTE to make 'Workshop-Manuals' and 'Training Manuals' I can certainly say that after 30 years in this Industry I am no stranger to 'Audio Wave Technology' so when I Post to the Forum I am always aware that most New PTE Users simply 'Rip' a CDDA Music Track from a Music CD, convert that to a WAV File, and then convert that into an Mp3 and being aware that most 'New Users' would not have heard of, nor know, what 'Bit-Rate' is ~ and that makes the problem ! ~The point I was making ~ you can't do that~ Now that we understand each other (despite the Language differences) let's get on and help other's to enjoy the PTE Program... May I wish you and your's a 'Very Happy Easter' Brian.Conflow.
-
Jean-Pierre, It's a little 'unfair' of you to say that I am WRONG ~ really wrong ~ If you read my Post properly, I was at pains to give a "simple explaination" for the DIGITAL "TIMING-DIFFERENCES" between Wav Files & Mp3 Files of an origional Music Track. I also said that the "HEARING TIME" was identical in both Formats CHAS had encountered a very simple problem in that he converted a Wav.File to an Mp3 File without consideration of the Bitrate ~ we have all done that !. You offered no such explaination except to make assumptions and critise my Post without reading it properly. Se la vie, for the Language differences. Brian.Conflow.

Pan & Zoom, I have actually tried other Programs with Pan & Zoom and to say the least I was not impressed. I won't mention Product Names but I can tell you that most are quite difficult to "set-up" on a slide-by-slide selection basis, furthermore when you go to intergrate these into a 'Slide-Show' then the problems really become apparent,viz:- * Many of then altered the Monitor Aspect Ratio from 3:4 to 9:13(approx) to enhance the 'pan utility' * Quite a lot of the 'Pan utilities' were very 'jerky' and not the least smooth and fluid across the Monitor. * Zoom Utility was inferior to a 3:1 Digital Zoom from a Digital Camera in that if you attempted anything more than that, the image started to 'pixelate' even with a (standard) 6.Meg Camera Image. * Quality Effect Variations from PC to PC was quite drastic, this irrespective of Processor Speed and Memory Resources. * The final Presentation is highly dependent on the Video/Graphic Card Quality ~ The PC.Speed ~ Auto-Memory Allocation ~ The IDE Buss Address Algorithm ~ The IDE Buss Set-up. The PTE Development Team are attempting to develop a 'Quasi-Universal' Pan & Zoom Program which will run properly in a stable manner on many Windows Platforms including the new Dual-Core Processors, and to get it to operate in the same "Hi-Quality Presentation" as we are enjoying with the PTE Program. I don't envy their Task, but I do ask you to be patient and considerate of the work in progress..... Brian.Conflow.
-
CHAS, No, you are not going mad ~ what you have experienced is perfectly normal ~ let me simply explain whats going on ! a) Wave Files (Wave Audio Files) are simple pure audio Tracks somewhat similar to what you would get on any standard LP.Vinyl Disc. In order for you to hear the Audio Sounds the audio stream is sampled into the PC at a sampling rate of 44000 times/per second, this because a PC is a 'digital device' - and the sampling rate is necessary to create a 'digital-facsimile' of the origional Sounds. These 'facsimile' Files take up inordinate amount's of Memory space. Mp3's on the other hand are purely 'digital signals' but they are so constructed as to make usage of the "nuances" and aberration's of Human Hearing ~ In effect Mp3's literally "fool" the Ear into hearing thing that are simply not in the Music Data Stream but for all intents and purposes you do hear what's not there. An analogy would be a TV.Show Illusionist ~ who "fools" the eyes. These Mp3 Files are highly compresses and use much less Memory and consequently are shorter in lenght. c) As a Computer has a finite digital computation speed and its "Time Frame" is a function of its data through-put, now the smaller Mp3 File compute's faster than its 'mirror-image' Wav File. However this difference can only be measured over a resonable time frame such as 4-10 minutes and if you compare both "Time Frames" there will be a difference. d) Having said that, the 'Physiological Hearing Time' remains the same as the origional Sound Track, because the Mp3 File is being dumped into Memory and is being 'read-out' in 'real-time' not in Digital frame time and because of those two differences you simply CANT replace Wave Files with Mp3 Files and expect the synchronisation to be as it was ! Hope this simply explains whats going on.... Brian.Conflow. OOP's...... Apologies to all for the inadvertent duplication of Chas' Posting. Brian.Conflow.

Seabird, There is absolutely no reason to "Unsubscribe" whilst on Holidays ~ Unlike "EText Forums" which disgorge ALL Postings to a subscribers EMail Address. The "PTE Invision Board" does not work that way ~ it simply does not send unsolicited EMails to your In-Box because the Forum is Web accessed throught "Internet Explorer" whereas 'EText Forums' are accessed from "Outlook Express" - an EMail Client Program. Both Programs are totally different in operation and structure. Hope this assures you ... Brian.Conflow.
