  1. I would suggest that you need a directional microphone which will help cut down background noise better than an omnidirectional microphone. I'm guessing that most of the USB microphones would fall into the omnidirectional camp. I'm not sure that a lavalier microphone would do what you want.

Have you thought about using one of the better quality Beyerdynamic  headphones with attached microphone?

Examples are DT 290 mkII, DT 790 or the MMX 2

p.s. It is likely to be around $34.

Thank you that is all I needed to know, the website is somewhat ambiguous on the subject only mentioning Versions 7 - 7.5 (as the latest) upgrade path.

The original PTE is no longer available or developed. PicturesToExe, when multiple new features and value were added became two new products: PicturesToExe Essentials and PicturesToExe Deluxe. This was discussed at length on the forum at the time it was instituted and the pricing and upgrade policicies and structure were also thoroughly debated.

Yes, you were given the option of purchasing the upgrade to the Deluxe version at a very reasonable price and this has been the case now for several years. Updates within a version have traditionally been free - for example version 8.0 through version 8.0.22. Major version changes such as from version 7 to version 8 have required purchasing via the upgrade price for those who were currently using the older version if the user wanted to avail themselves of the new features. This is a very fair procedure IMHO. You had years of free upgrades before the original PTE development ceased and the totally new products Essentials and Deluxe were launched. Very few software developers have ever offered this type of policy. Your version 8 will not stop working if you elect not to upgrade - you still have all the features which it offers. In my view you are certainly not being "suckered  to pay again."  If you count up the actually amount you have spent in "16 years" on PTE it probably still won't equal what purchasing one version of the main competing product would have set you back. Upgrades for each version of the competition are about $99 and frequently for that amount you primarily get bug fixes.

    Best regards,

    Lin

The website says buy Version 8 deluxe for $129 and get a free upgrade to Version 9. This of course applies to new purchasers

Why cannot existing customers who have already own Version 8 deluxe get an upgrade to Version 9 at a reduced cost?

If the FINAL RELEASE version is not ready in 30 days then the 30 day period will be extended another 30 days. It is an indication that release is imminent.

The Free upgrade applies to NOW but if you already have Version 8 then it is not applicable to you.

If you bought Version 8 AFTER the offer was announced a couple of months ago then Yes.

The way that I understand it, all new Versions (8 to 9, 9 to 10 etc) will involve an upgrade cost. This was discussed at length here some time ago.

    DG

Not really impressed, originally purchased a very long time ago (about 15 or 16 years) Pte with free lifetime upgrades, then had to pay again for version 7 because Wnsoft could not find original order, in 2008  with the accompanying message "This license key will work with all future versions of PicturesToExe ((otherwise, we'll provide you with the new one - free of charge, of course)". If you lose this file, please drop the letter to orders@wnsoft.com and we'll send it to you again)

In 2011 paid for upgrade to deluxe version.

Then had to pay again in 2013 for upgrade to Version 8 deluxe version

Now it seems I'm being suckered  to pay again, this implies that every upgrade from now on will be pay or go without!

I certainly did not see a discussion about an upgrade cost for each version, really there should be a discounted price for loyal customers and NOT have to pay full price each time there is an upgrade.

That's fine presupposing that the final Version 9 is going to be released within 30 days!

The website says buy version 8 and get a free upgrade to 9 available this winter, does that mean early 2017 or late 2017?

I already own Version 8 deluxe does this mean I will have a free upgrade to 9 deluxe?

PicturesToExe 9.0 Release Candidate 1 is published:

    http://files.wnsoft.com/test/900alpha/picturestoexe-setup.exe

    • Keyframe width in the timeline view can be adjusted in the Objects and animation editor. See Tools menu, or Preferences > Editor.
    • Custom transition effects are sorted in alphabetical order.
    • Slide style copies used additional images to a project’s folder.
    • Various improvements

Free key for Beta version does not work with the Release Candidate.

Release Candidate installs as PicturesToExe 9 (without a word "Beta").

This is NOT final version yet.

As this is not the final version, why cannot a key be supplied?

  7. I really do not understand your comment about the reviews, I am assuming that you are referring to the ones on Slideshowclub which certainly were not negative or discourteous in any way.

I realise that the show is your comment on the election, however I found it a little too abstract, not really making a point until the end credits!

The photography was up to your usual high standard as was the soundtrack.

I guess that he (hopefully) will not be elected for a second term, then you will be able to make another show about your feelings of relief.

Going thru my records, DaveG and I looked this up Oct 30 2009 and same was discussed on the forum at that time+-

we searched on the net and got this

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)

so we few that used square format camera's were familiar with 5/4

I think Roliflex  made a slide projector -- I tried to buy one from a customer in Sarnia ---

and there was an Engineer at Dow that had one -- they were as scarce as hen's teeth, boy a 2 1/4" slide show was something to see!!

    Hi Ken

Rollei made more than one 6x6 projector:

    Rollei Universal P11 (6x6 or 2 1/4" &35mm) twin magazine channels

    P66

    P66S

    Rolleivision 66

    Rolleivision 66 Dual P (6x6 & 35mm)

As you say a show on one or more of these is/was something to see and then of course there was the Hasselblad PCP 80 (at a price!)

  9. Really enjoyed the images but the soundtrack ruined the show for me. There is too much intrusive crowd noise which is really annoying in the parts where there are very few people in shot.

I think that you would have a much better sequence with a decent commercial recording and just a few crowd effects added in appropriate places.

Alternatively maybe you can find some appropriate music on the Rondo Veneziano discs

  10. Hi Mark

I really like this version, there is just one suggestion that would make it even better (for me). Is it possible for you to crop/resize the second, third and fourth images so that the shoreline of the loch/lochs line up? In the current version they jump up and down a bit.

    Great soundtrack, what's the music?

  11. Hi Morturn

Are you aware that the IAC offers a licence service for copyright music?

When I was living in the UK I had one of their annual licences which allowed me to use copyright music free of charge, the then licence allowed for all AV's films made during the period of the licence to be shown ad-infinitum.

Here is link to their current page http://www.theiac.org.uk/iac/copyright/copyright.html

  12. Having read the post by Cagney123 "lets all get together".

It occurred to me that it would be a good idea to have on the forum a map showing where members are (no member's names) located.

You've probably seen something like this on eBay where a seller shows a map of the world with a red dot representing a customer.

Living in Perth I have absolutely no idea if there are any members or PTE users in Western Australia.

  13. Hi Eric

Thanks for your effort and my sincere sympathy over the free gif maker, Xara has some super 3D effects that is why I have it, I also have Aurora 3D Text & Logo creator but it doesn't seem any more friendly than Xara.

For some reason the animated gif I uploaded didn't show in my post but it is there, it is the blank space to the left of the macro.jpg, the tif file has a transparent background maybe that is why it is invisible.

Unfortunately Xara doesn't appear to offer the creation of a png file or if it does I can't find it!

  14. Hi Lin & Eric

This is driving me nuts this morning I tried to create a new gif using the text from the macro.jpg and it came out at 49mb!

Needless to say I gave up after it completely crashed PTE. I am doing this to help out a friend who is giving a presentation on Macro at a local camera club in a couple of weeks time, he wants to run the presentation manually as he will be speaking about the topic.

Attached is the background slide I want to put the animated gif on. I have attached a jpg of the text and finally a gif I just created from scratch which has come out really small this time.

What I want is for the word Macro! to zoom from small to large and then stop there until the slide is changed.

I must admit that the Xara help is not the best and patience has been tested to the limit.

  15. Hi Lin & Eric

    Attached is the DXDIAG.txt

    Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit

    Intel I7 950 3.07 GHz

    Ram 12288mb

    GTX 660 2048mb GDDR5

    Xara 3D Maker v7

    PTE Deluxe 8.0.12

Gif file is 600 x 300 pixels 16 bit color (16mb can't get it any smaller when exporting from Xara)

    Hope this is enough info

Have tried the Animation in Pte but the text is pretty basic and I cannot get that to work properly, I want to get the gif text to start small and then zoom larger.

  16. I've used Xara 3D to create an animated title, I want to this on the first slide of my project. Xara says this must be exported as an animated as a gif.

When I try to import this gif into Pte it runs out of memory and crashes

Does anyone have any experience of using Xara 3D and getting the resulting gifs into Pte?

  17. Hi all,

A very short presentation on our visit to Caversham Wildlife Park. The park is situated on the outskirts of Perth,

about a 30 minutes drive from the CBD. Our entrance fee was all inclusive and we were also able to visit many of the shows

put on within the park. The main attraction for us was being able to get up close to the Koala bears and the Kangaroos'.

ps. I have included a link to their official website for those that are interested

    http://www.cavershamwildlife.com.au/

    Congratulations Colin

The excellent shows of your recent visit to WA (Perth, Fremantle) have made Dullsville look really appealing.

Trouble is that when you live here it is not so attractive because of the isolation!

I have to agree with you and disagree with the others, I get the impression that the majority of members on the forum are "old enough to know better". Newcomers to the forum need encouragement, they may well be easily put off by the "I'm cleverer than you" responses to questions.

There are one or two members who give the impression that theirs is the only opinion/view that counts, this is totally the wrong attitude to take, it just reeks of arrogance.

As for moderation, I'm hoping that it will improve, in the past too many childish remarks which led to vicious remarks were tolerated by moderators instead of being stamped quickly. I have seen in a recent post that the smart-ass remarks and comments are creeping back and I hope that the moderators see this.

Lets be brutally honest here, for all those who think that they can walk on water, you still don't like it when someone dislikes your work and says so in a derogatory way.

It is relatively easy to deliver comment whether it is praise or criticism, in a way which should not cause offence.

  19. For all members who have problems watching You tube videos there is an easily available remedy (modest cost), this is Internet Download Manager produced by Tonec inc. I have a feeling that it is PC only but I may be wrong.

Once installed it will deal with all downloads.

With You tube all you have to is select the resolution I always go for 1080 if its available, hit the play button. A small window will pop-up usually just above the video window, (if not check at the top right area of your your monitor) saying "download this video" click this and voila.

The video file will now be in your downloads folder sub folder videos. Also works with files from Mediafire , Beechbrook et al.

    Hope this helps.
