Hi Ken
Watched your show and enjoyed it very much, I used to go to the stourpaine fairs when I was in England. It also brought back memories of seeing the engines on the roads in Berkshire (I was very young then).
I can understand why you used Memory from Cats, before you ditch Memory check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAL_-ajw4co
By the way don't take any notice of remarks such "I don't like or don't agree with your choice of music" remember you took the images and you chose the music "one mans meat is another mans poison". Don't try and please the minority all the time.

Hi Eric
Loved the show, it brought back memories of happy days spent in Northumberland and Newcastle before and after the Eldon Square re-development. Seeing the picture of the arcade with J G Windows music store brought back more memories of buying Lp's there.
Good to see the new buildings and the new footbridge.
Have to agree with Lin about the animations.

Just watched your sequence, I liked the voice over but am not sure about the music but then you cannot satisfy everyone.
On a technical note I wonder if it would have been more effective if the video had been in the window instead of the still shots.
Reading the end credits I can understand why it was an emotional subject for you to make a sequence about. My family lost members and friends in the great war and I have always regretted not visiting their resting places before coming to Australia.
I feel that you have made a very poignant sequence.
Kindest regards

Thanks for your help.
What it means is that I will continue to create the audio tracks in Audition and transfer the final mix to PTE. Didn't think of changing flac to ogg!
Thanks again
John

Is the audio track feature a mono track or is it a stereo track? The waveform is not split (L & R). I have looked through the manual and can't find the answer.
I edit my audio in Abobe Audition which shows both left and right tracks, adding sound effects which are often mono it is relatively easy to position them i.e. left right or centre, I may use 6 or more tracks.
If the answer is in the manual and I have missed it please tell me where it is and accept my apologies for asking the question
Do you think there is any chance that a future version of PTE will accept flac format audio?

GIMP 2.6.11

Definitely not a K.I.S.S. program. Similar to Photoshop but free, with a steep learning curve. Does all adjustments, uses layers and imports and exports Photoshop PDF files. Huge number of filters, brushes etc. I don't find it as intuitive as Photoshop but I first learned Photoshop and sometimes it's difficult to think in a different way.
Ken
Hi All
What about Google Picasa? http://picasa.google.com/
Its easy to use, has got some good tools, outputs in jpg which is fine for PTE, it catalogues your images and best of all its free!
While it is good, its nowhere near as good as Photoshop CS5, but as Ken say's Photoshop comes at a high price and learning curve.

Hopefully this may be of interest to some of the forum like me who have a lot of 35mm slides which used to be the basis of their AV shows.
As you are aware Nikon have ceased producing the LS9000 scanner and it is getting rather dificult to find a good scanner at an affordable price!
Reflecta Gmbh have introduced a new scanner the DigitDia 5000 which takes a whole magazine of slides and scans the whole lot automatically (up to 80 if you use an LKM magazine) they also have a new medium format scanner as well. The good news is that the 35mm scanner is only Eur 1249, but the medium format scanner price has yet to announced. check the link below for full details.
PS the downside of the Digitdia 5000 is that it does not accept Kodak carousel magazines

Definitely much better to watch than "imagine" this is far more interesting and good sound.

A show done to the music "Brothers in Arms". 22mb file, resolution 1920 x 1080px, run time 4:46.
This will not be eveybody's cup of tea, I'm afraid, but I welcome any comments and suggestions. Photographs were taken mostly in Scotland but also at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. This is a moody show in keeping with the music.
Superb presentation, I've thought for a long time that "Brothers in Arms" would make a great show and now you have done it justice.
Well done.

PS I don't know if its my imagination but the water doesn't seem level in the second image

First of all, thanks to all who have commented.
John - Until your comments, I had never heard of Rondo Veneziano. However, just done a quick search on the Web, sampled a few pieces and yes, I wish I had heard of them earlier. Will download some and see if any work better. Having said that, despite the reveille at the start, I do like the piece I have used. It comes from an album of Italian Love Songs. One thing about creating these a/vs, we do get to explore different music.
Thanks for your comments.
Maureen
Maureen
Thank you for being so understanding about my suggestion of Rondo Veneziano. The only reason I made it was the music you had used didn't sound italian to me. Here is another totally tongue in cheek offering if you have any italian sequences planned.
Rhapsody of Fire - Lo specchio d'argento from "The magic of the wizards dream" Rhapsody are usually regarded as melodic heavy metal but sometimes there are little gems like Lo specchio!
Have fun!
John
PS have watched most of your sequences and enjoyed them all.04-rhapsody_-_lo_specchio_dargento-qtxmp3.mp3

Super little sequence loved it. Not familiar with the music at all.
I'm wondering what the sequence would be like if you were to use some music from Rondo Veneziano and if it would give a different interpretation?
Just wish I was able to visit all the great places you have been to.
Kindest regards

Hello again Dave,
Just hooked up a second hard drive running XP with PTE 6.5 4 installed. As expected everything in the O&A window is displayed correctly.
This rules out absolutely any problem with my display monitor.
Seems likely the displacement problem is either a bug in PTE 7.0 Beta 10 or a compatibility issue with my 32bit operating system.
Thanks for your interest.
John.
Hi John
I just tried to replicate your problem with no success! I'm running Win7 64bit, Nvidia 9800gtx
Which version of Windows are you using?
Have you done all the Microsoft updates?
Are your video card drivers fully up to date?
Just desperately trying to think of an answer for you

Hi John,
That selection is a "Windows-Folder Function" where the user selects
the appropriate Mouse behaviour to their own personal choice.
(See attachment)
Brian (Conflow)
Hi Brian
I'm well aware that it is a Windows folder function, but it doesn't explain why in parts of PTE a single click works and in others a double click is needed.

First attempt you've got to be kidding!
Superb changes from B/W to colour loved them and a great choice of music. I agree with Davy about the text alignment and may I suggest a fast dissolve on the text so that there isn't a double image, which could also go some way to address Ken's comment.
From a purely personal view I would have liked to see the shot of the whole boat first and then go into the detail shots at the end of the sequence, maybe that way you could keep all the verticals together.
Anyway whatever the comments its a stunning first AV

Hi John
With that setting, what happens when you only want to select the item, not open it? Or do you switch between single & double click settings.
Yachtsman1.
Think I answered my own question, didn't notice it also said "Point to Select", must go to spec savers
Hi Yachtsman
I had to think about that and check it before I replied!
What happens in explorer is that an item is highlighted when the mouse pointer is on it, then the single click opens it.
I have to help a friend with his computer he uses double-click and it drives me crazy when nothing happens with a single click!

Hello John,
Please let me know how to configure Windows settings for this behaviour of mouse? I'll check up.
Hello Igor
Thanks for the reply, here are the settings to change:
1. Open windows explorer
2. Click on Tools menu and select Folder Options
3. In the General tab (click items as follows pane) and select Single click.
Kindest regards

Just ran PTE 7 beta 9 on my Acer netbook (atom processor 1.33 & ,2gb of ram) which is the only machine I have with Windows 7 32 bit and it runs perfectly, I can't replicate your problem!
Just glad that Igor managed to reproduce it and find a solution.

Hi all
This may be a very stupid question but I'm asking anyway.
On all my systems everything is set to open with a single mouse click.
In Pte 7 I can select a drive and Pictures folder in the file tree with a single click and then the file list is displayed as thumbnails or details in the next window.
When opening one of these I have to double-click the folder thumbnail to open it and see the actual contents of the folder.
However to select an image in the opened folder it only needs a single-click.
Is there any way to make everything work with just a single click?

Hi all
Just checked on my monitors 1920 x 1200 & 2500 x 1600 (2 separate computers) and I get the same as Lin no offset at all.

Having read the previous posts I would like to add some comments:
Anyone who can and does make tutorials for Pte (and any other AV software for that matter) should be applauded for their efforts whether the turorials are free or not. I do appreciate Barry's effort on "What is AV".
Sibilance in recordings, I'm assuming the use of a decent audio microphone here and NOT a computer microphone, you can reduce sibilance to a degree by some or all of the following:
A ribbon microphone which unfortunately can be rather expensive!
A pop filter, can be quite inexpensive or even homemade just do a Google search to see what one is like.
A good windshield for the microphone.
Placing the microphone to one side and speaking across it when recording instead of speaking into it.
A de-essing program do a Google search, Adobe Audition does have this feature.

Hi Barry
A little behind the times here in WA so have only just seen the topic, desktop monitors are 2500x1600 & 1920x1200 but sequences downsize just fine for the club projector.

10gb per month! How on earth can you cope with that?
My download limit on ADSL2+ was 400gb per month, but my ISP gave me a new ADSL2+ plan last year, unlimited downloads per month for AU $50 or about £34. I probably use up to about 1TB monthly. If I post AV's I'll maybe use even more.
