  1. Thanks, Peter. I am interested to know what happens to the .pngs which are deliberately at a different size to that of the .jpgs. (so that they can move into and out of the frame). I know the .jpgs can be resized OK, but I do not know if the .pngs behave exactly the same within any new format. I did notice that when any black border was left round a .jpg the .png showed into the black space. If the ratio is kept at 4 x 3 as 1024 x 768 is the same ratio as 1400 x 1050, are there still any potential problems? I expect there would be if vertical .jpgs were included, but I never do this anyway. However, I do need to know in case this could affect others' Sequences. Peter
  2. I have made well over 100 PTE Sequences and usually project these using a 1024 x 768 projector. Most of the recent 1024 x 768 Sequences made using PTE v 5.6 use .pngs. Am I likely to encounter any problem(s) when playing these on a 1400 x 1050 projector? If so what, if any, change in their behaviour can I expect?
  3. Many thanks! Problem sorted ! (I just had not spotted "view" and all the subsequent actions.) It was the close proximity of images along the timeline that was giving me problems as I was wanting cuts at about 0.2" intervals. I kept picking up the "wrong" image to move! Once again many thanks.
  4. Can the Time Line be magnified in version 5.6? When placing images close together, it is difficult to see exactly where they are and even to identify which image is which. Is there a way of enlarging the Time Line so that the positions can be seen easlily? When trying to move close images it is too easy to pick up the wrong one. I seem to recall that in earlier versions there was an enlarge button but I cannot find one now! Peter Coles
  5. Thanks for that. I just find 5.6 difficult to work with making Menues compared with earlier say 4.8. Tiny images do not suit my tiny mind! Too many words in 5.6 Menue-makers mean so little to me that they put me off rather than help! My simple mind needs simple things made even more simple rather than the reverse. Anyway - problem solved thanks to the everso prompt help via the kind Beechbrook folk. On with my next problem! Not AV though, this next one - far more serious !!!! But less fun !!!!!!
  6. Many thanks, Ian. I think you deserve the Gold Medal! That seems to have cracked it; I just called it summut else and re-programmed it all back in. Incidentally it also seemed to, somehow, have reverted back to PTE 1.1 when I tried to remake it all for this new session. I can't explain that either as I no longer, of course have 1.1 on my computer! Anyway all now seems well. The filename happened to be FOR.exe !!! Problem solved - well that one anyway! Well done Beechbrook! Well done Ian. Thanks to all for your help! Next!
  7. That is what comes up when I click on the play this Sequence request! I have other Sequences made by myself in the same programme which do not come up with this- "Command line contains prohibited command and will not be performed... "
  8. I have loaded all the Sequences for an International event into four menues, using the older 4.8 menue with which I am more familiar and find easier to programme. One Sequence, which just happens to be one of my own, keeps coming up with "Command line contains prohibited command and will not be performed". I have tried all sorts of things but cannot get this to work. HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!! (e-mail peter@3-c.coop) Peter
  9. Thanks Ian. I am pleased that Igor will be including a Youtube facility in 5.6 as this may well take out all the confusion for those wanting to put simple views of their Sequences on line. I have now 55 Sequences on Youtube.com under avpeter; most of them may also be viewed through my own site www.avpeter.com and there are also occasionally PTE files which can be dowloaded from this site.
  10. I am aware of all the disadvantages of you-tube, but also appreciate that literally thousands of viewers can see what we produce and maybe go on to see PTE as a result of first seeing a Sequence on You-tube. This compares, for example with the few hundreds of folk who may witness what we make and show on Beechbrook.com So I will try what you suggest and hope to produce acceptable AVI files for uploading onto You-tube. Thanks Peter
  11. I have made a number of AVI files with previous versions of PTE and subsequently used them to create Sequences on www.youtube.com The latest version of PTE gives me problems. Could some kind soul inform me which boxes to click in order to produce the right sort of AVI file for youtube? Peter Coles
  12. Now, has anyone put Flanders and Swann's "Slow Train" into an AV? That would have me diving into the Kleenex.
  13. Many thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I now have it working OK. Peter
  14. Thanks, The DVD Burner Programme is Nero. I'm not sure of the make of Burner - the Computer came with two DVDs in it one a player and the other a burner. I have made several DVDs previously. I was using the built in PTE to DVD. I have just noticed Beta 11 so have downloaded it and will try. Peter
  15. My programme suddenly does not support making DVDs. I downloaded and paid for the new programme, I suppose it would be about 12 months ago, when it first came out. Since then I have made DVD programmes from time to time. I have recently downloaded the Beta versions of PTE 5. Then all of a sudden when I need to make a few DVDs I am informed that "DVDs not supported". Does this mean I have to buy the programme again? What do I do please? I need this within the next day or two.
  16. I would just like to add my expression of thanks for Ron's life and the effect he had on so many AV folk in his later years. This site gave him the audience he needed and many appreciated the words he wrote to us here. I hope we all remember him for many years to come. Peter Coles
  17. Yep! In more ways than one !!!!!! Thanks for the help - now I don't have to wait for my nine-year-old !!! It works!!!
  18. Many thanks. That was quick! Tried it but "ctrl + f11" didn't work! Couldn't find "View" - I must be thick !!! And when I went back to 5.5 2, I wondered where 'insert new slide' had gone! I'll get there if I ask enough questions. Problem is - I may spend so much time working out new systems that there's not enough time left to make new Sequences! Never mind, my nine-year-old granddaughter will help me! Peter
  19. I like what I found in 5.5 Beta 2 I wondered whether there may, later, be a "zoom in" for more accurate placing of images with the sound track. Maybe there is one already which I have not yet found. I have only played with it for an hour or so. Peter Coles
  20. There are, I believe, two International Diaporama Events in France during the weekend 16th 17th June. I am sure these events will be well reported on the sites mentioned above. The 150 or so AVs which are being judged during this weekend seem to me to be very different from the usual stuff I download from this site. They will have words in them! They will express fealings! The weekend will be the culmination of judgements by four important AV Clubs around Paris and, at DIAPORAMATOUR, a set of Judges in several venues in France - Reims is the last of these. Most of the works I download from here are mere collections of images set to music. Why is this? Why are so few of the real Sequences shown during "The Paris Cup" and "DIAPORAMATOUR" sent to this site? Is it because they would not be appreciated? I want to see more than just pictures to music; PTE can to much better than that! Please! Please! Please! Let's see more of these stories, poems and documentaries rather than just collections of holiday photographs with background musac! Most of the Festivals show "Proper AVs". Why do so few of them arrive here? Peter Coles www.avpeter.com
  21. "AV News" This is the magazine of the RPS AV Group Contact Joan Horne on joanhorne@blueyonder.co.uk I have reminded her of this site and the comments made re "Monthly Photography". Comments will probably follow after the next issue of AV News. The other RPS magazine if "Journal" the RPS magazine (not specific to AV) Peter Coles (www.avpeter.com)
  22. To any of Peter's family who may read this site, I would like to send my condolences. I knew Peter best through www.creatingslideshows.com but also through his work with the AV group in the Worcestershire area. He was always worth taking notice of and many valued the contributions he made. We knew he was ill but it was still a bit of a shock when we heard he had died. I very much appreciated the AV Sequences of his which I saw; he gained an Award in the Great Northern event in Wilmslow just over a year ago. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
  23. Yes. Thanks Ron. I now do have a key and all seems to be working well. I'm quite impressed with the quality.
