  1. Hi Tony,

You may have a problem, but perhaps not. The 1929x1080 resolution is far greater than what is supported by either NTSC or PAL resolutions. Both these resolutions are less than 800x600 so you will never see anything remotely resembling HD resolution on a DVD. In addition, neither is 16:9 aspect ratio and both are essentially designed for older television receivers. Only BluRay right now, or AVCHD for smaller shows supports HD quality in an optical media. You can create an MP4 h264 video and display it on your HD tv at full resolution via a USB flash device assuming your TV receiver supports this via HDMI.

A little more information would be necessary to be certain what is causing the pale picture, but the resolution on a DVD will never be anywhere close to your mp4 h264 video quality.

    Best regards,

    Lin

    Hi Lin,

Many thanks for your reply. In order to get a good quality image I am guessing from your reply I need to create the project using the"Fixed Size Of Image" box checked and come down to 800 x 450 to retain the aspect ratio and improve the quality of the DVD. I don't have a smart TV and the disc is for use by a third party as an educational sequence. I will give it a go and post the results.

  2. Hi Folks,

I have just burnt a DVD using the default settings in PTE. Unfortunately the quality is really poor. On the TV it is extremely pale and the resolution is also very poor. I am obviously doing something wrong.

The images are all 1920 x 1080 and the created video was 480Mb. The video plays on the PC with the correct colours/brightness but the resolution is poor. What am I doing wrong?

I note there is a new DVD burning feature available but not sure if this is what is needed.

  3. Tony,

I assumed you were using a Magic Mouse. On that basis I mean moving one finger up or down (as opposed to swipe) the face of the mouse as if you were using a scroll wheel. That works for me provided I have Ctr and Shift selected and also have the time line window selected.

    John

    Hi John,

Sorry for delay in getting back to you. That is what I think I did and as I mentioned to Tom it worked OK. I hadn't realised that there was effectively an invisible scroll wheel on the Apple Mouse.

    Thank you for your help

    Tony

  4. Some mouse controllers have hidden third action instigator for want of a better word, particularly laptops, 2 of mine had, I think in this instance there is a hidden control on John's mouse, try giving yours a good stroke. ;)/>/> holding the shift key at the same time.

    Hi Tom,

I dug out the old apple Mouse and gave it a few swipes as though there were a scroll wheel there and it worked OK. Thanks for the info.

    All the best

  5. On the MAC mouse there is no scroll wheel, bud gently swipe with my finger on the mouse dit the trick !

    Thanks!

I am having the same problem but use a roller ball mouse with the Mac and unfortunately can't get to zoom timeline using this method. Any suggestions please.

  6. As I have commented elsewhere on the forum, when using Slide Styles, as implemented in v8.0, we must think about our workflow before we start building the sequence. In my opinion, the correct workflow is:

a - drop the slides we want into the Slide List

b - apply the Styles that we want

c - then, and only then, apply our personal customizations (of soundtrack, slide durations, transition types and durations, additional objects, additional animations, etc.)

To build a sequence fully, and then apply Slide Styles to it, is definitely not the right workflow.

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure I agree with your comment re correct workflow. Often we require to modify a sequence after first completion. If this involves adding or removing slides then I guess we would save a "Version 2" etc. However, if we change the standard transitions either in style or duration, then the overall timing of the slide on the screen remains unaltered. If we change the transition time to in excess of the overall slide duration then the transition is cut short and the slide overall timing remains the same. This is visible on the timeline view in the form of red highlighting. With the new Slide Styles this is not the case and my original post was made as a result of this discovery as I had expected that Slide Style changes would work in the same way as standard transitions. If the working of the new Slide Styles remains the same then all that needs to be done is to re-insert the overall time in the slide view mode, but I do think IMHO, it would be better if the overall slide duration was not affected when adding or removing slide style. Sorry Igor, not sure of the implications of this.

  7. TC,

The times of the applied styles are determined when creating the styles.

You can change the duration of the slide when applying the style by typing the duration that you want into the box.

The Transition times are, however, locked in.

You can apply a style - change its transition time and re-save it with a new name.

    Hi DG,

Altering the default time of 7 seconds in the "Duration" in the Slide Styles option does have an effect on the time slide is on the screen but appears to bear no resemblance to the actual time originally set (Transiton 3.5 and Overal 7.5). For example, adding the Blur Zoom style and setting the "Duration to 10 seconds gives a transition time of 2.857 seconds and a total time of 6.5 seconds which doesn't add up in any shape or form. All it seems to do is slow down the speed to 70% as seen in the Slide Styles option view. If the Duration is reduced to 5 seconds the speed is increased to 140% and when applied to the slide gives a transition time of 1.429 seconds and a total time of 1.5 seconds

I take your point of creating a new Slide Style but I think this is a different issue.

    Hi JT,

I guess you are saying something similar to my initial post. The Slide Style option should (IMHO) not alter the overall timing of the slide in the sequence.

Thanks for your replies, I wonder if anyone else might have a comment.

  8. Hi Folks,

I'm not sure if this has been on the forum before but here I go.

Having set up a sequence with the images and the music (starting after 3 second dark slide and finishing with a dark slide as the music ends) I decided to add some slide styles. Doing this completely changes the timing on the images to which slide styles are added. Just as an example I have a slide which has a 4.5 second basic transition and an overall time of 7.5 seconds. If I apply the Blur Zoom in Slide Style the transition time reduces to 2 seconds with an overall time of 2.5 seconds. Likewise by adding a Frame Zoom In style the timing chafes from 4.5 and 7.5 to 1.5 and 1.5. If applying Slide Styles to a number of images this alters the total timing and thus the ending of the sequence. This can be changed by adjusting the overall time on each image to which Slide Styles had been added to get back to the original timing of the sequence. Is this how it should be done or would it be more convenient to have this function in the Slide Style option or have the overall image timing left unaltered when applying the Slide Styles.?

    Hope that all makes sense!

  9. Hi Yatchsman & Davegee,

Many thanks for your replies. I have followed Davegee's instructions and this has resolved the issue. It is not often I need to produce a DVD and have previously lived with the problem, however on this occasion I am sending the DVD to someone else and really wanted it to show correctly on his TV.

Where would we be without the forum. Thank you again for your assistance it is appreciated.

  10. Hi All,

I hope someone can help me. I have produced a sequence using images of 5" x 7" and 7" x 5" and made a DVD of this sequence. Unfortunately when viewed on the television the images are stretched and squashed to fill the screen.

I have set the sequence project options for the aspect ratio to 3 x 2 which is as near 7 x 5 as I can get and have tried the "Fix Size Of Slide " both checked and unchecked. Neither has solved the problem.

When running on the PC there is no problem. Am I missing something or is this a common problem?

    Many thanks

    Tony

  11. Just an advance notice of the Leeds Audio Visual Group 38th Annual Colour & Music Spectacular which takes place on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th March 2013. The show is believed to be the longest running annual audio visual event in the world and raises money for Wheatfield's, St Gemma's and Martin House Hospices and has donated some £20,000 to these causes.

The event takes place at St Chad's Parish Centre, Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds LS16 5JT at 7.30 pm each night and tickets are available at £6 each from Tony Collinson on 07831 093824. As the show usually plays to a full house of 200 people each night obtaining tickets as soon as possible is recommended.

We look forward to meeting up with members of the forum at this event.

    Many thanks for your interest

  12. Hi,

Thanks for the post. I am hoping that by using either "Run application or open file" or the "Open web page" commands along with the appropriate web address e.g http://www.wnsoft.com will allow other users to access the linked files on the internet. I am putting together a disc for our local club with various bits and pieces including various links so I am hoping they will be able to visit the links directly.

  13. Hi,

Just as a further comment, I have tried to carry out the same exercise on my Windows Xp laptop and have the same problem. Pressing the button does not access the internet but there is no message re application and filename extension.

Is there some setting which may be preventing this action?

  14. Does anyone know if it is possible to clone several keypoints together. Perhaps it would make it clearer if I say I would like to keep a clock pendulum on screen ticking to a regular beat. Therefore, once I have set up say half-a-dozen keypoints it would be very useful to copy and paste them for the duration the ticking of the clock which could be on screen for a couple of minutes or more. I know it is possible to clone individual keypoints but can't seem to find a way to clone more than one at a time.

    Hope that makes sense.

  15. Hi Mac Users,

I have just taken the plunge and purchased a Mac with Parallels and Windows 7 (for PTE).

I am about to start transferring files (images and music) over to the Mac but am uncertain what file management system I should use. I have played with Adobe Bridge when I used CS and more recently Organizer now that I use PSE9. I find the W7 “Libraries” set up just as confusing so as often as not return to simple Windows Explorer. I suspect that I am guilty of not persevering with Organizer and may well adopt that method. However I know nothing about Mac options so thought I should ask if anybody has any experiences or opinions they would like to pass on.

    Regards

    John

    Hi John,

I am just about in the same position. My Mac arrives next week. I will be contacting Adobe to transfer my CS5 Windows license to a Mac license and I guess the fun will begin then. The guy at the shop tells me files must be stored in a certain way so as to be accessible on both Windows ans Mac platforms so I will need to get this sorted out pretty quicky.

Will keep my eye on this topic and hope to learn from the experts!

  16. All,

I have put together a short AV on Anne Frank. Originally for a school project, it contains a mix of photos and illustrations of Anne Frank, The secret annex, and Concentration camps.

There is no graphic content, but download only if you think it suitable viewing.

    Hi Davy,

Well done a great reminder of how fortunate we are.

  17. Three Groups in the South of England already use 1920px by 1080px projectors.

RPS Wessex, WAVES AV group and Wantage AV Group have all bought the Optoma projectors and we are making sequences for 1920 by 1080 - great to see your work projected on the new HD televisions too.

    Hi Maureen et al,

I have seen various discussions/emails re resolution/aspect ratio/image size and there is still no standard or clarity for those involved in competition work. As sequences tend to be fairly lengthy in terms of obtaining images and production then organisers should be offering some guidance on this. As modern digital SLR cameras use a 3:2 format consideration must be given to the composition of the image when taking the photograph as cropping will occur if using either the 4:3, 5:4 or the wide screen format.

However, I am interested to know a little more about the 1920 x 1080 projectors, what distance does it have to be from the screen to fill it. Now I know that that depends on the size of the screen but understand that at a recent competition one of these projectors had to moved to the back of the hall before the image was any where near large enough due to the throw of the lens as even at full zoom the image was too small when closer to the screen. If this is the case then would they be suitable for say small club rooms where they would more regularly be used.

As always technology marches on and I guess this discussion will rear its head again in the future.

    Interesting reading as always

  18. Interesting question, I'd be interested in something like this too.

I've been using Gadwin Print Screen for my tutorials on PTE, but it only captures still snapshots of the screen, not a live movie of what's going on. But at least it stores multiple shots in a folder for later access, unlike the Windows screen-capture utility which puts the capture in the Clipboard, which means you only get one shot to work with unless you tediously dump each shot into Photoshop or somewhere else before proceeding with the next shot...

I checked the Gadwin web page, they don't seem to have a product that does a live video capture of the screen, unless I'm missing something.

I support you could always try a video capture with a camcorder or a compact digital camera (or an SLR if yours is one of the new ones that does AVI or MOV capture), but that is a workaround that produces inferior results, you end up with "waves" (that isn't the right technical term but I'm blocking on the word at the moment) on your image, because the frame rate for the camera and the screen refresh rate aren't in synch.

    Hi,

Don't know if this will help but it is worth a look:
