  1. I am having trouble getting the Splitter feature to work with Custom Transitions and Slide Styles. I have created a Slide Style where the main image is set within a frame zooms for the full duration of the slide (10secs). There is a border (5px) around the frame and a drop shadow and the background is blurred (35%) with reduced opacity (70%) and a zoom of 105%.

I have applied a Custom Transition that  I have created making sure that the Use background from slide, Transparent background of slide and Dissolve are all selected. When applying the transitions there is no separation of the background image nor is it appearing as a dissolve.

I am using version 9.0.7 with a Windows 10 PC. Can anyone help please?

  2. Hi Dave,

Once again thanks for your input. I guess it's all to do with expectations when you use the software. Having used "Change Image File" in the past and seeing the name change in the Slide List it was my expectation that when I Changed Image File in "Missing Images section the same thing would apply. It was also interesting that if you accept the change of image in the Missing File section then if you try and change Image File (Right Click dropdown menu) in this instance it still does not change the name of the image in the slide list!

So I guess this is how it works and I appreciate your comments. Perhaps it might be something Igor will look at in the future.

  3. Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that you can use the approach you and Igor have suggested but that seems to defeat the object of having a feature to find missing files if all you have to do is close it down and do what you would have done in previous versions. Just as a matter of interest did you take a look at the video?

  4. Hi,

Somewhat disappointed not to receive a definitive reply to this query. I can only assume that if you use the "Missing File" feature in PTE 9 and select an alternative file then you have to manually change the file name in the Slide Options which seems to defeat the object of the exercise. Also if you have inadvertently changed a file name then again it will not be recognised in the Slide List and has to be changed manually in Slide Options. Even using the "Change Image File" when this happens fails to present the correct name in the Slide List.

Perhaps someone might confirm that this is how the Missing File feature works..

  5. Hi Igor,

The problem arises if for some reason you have inadvertently  changed the name of a file in the slide show folder when PTE IIs closed. When you reopen PTE it shows as a missing file. If you select "find missing file" and select the file which now has a different name and select OK, the file will then reappear in the slide list. However, it still retains the original name of the "missing file". If you check in O&A the file is shown with the correct name as shown in the file list. In other words, if the missing file is as the result of a name change it will still appear with the original name in the Slide List. Change image makes no difference following this process and the image still retains the original name when you select the file from the Slide List. I would have thought it should have the same name as the chosen image.

  6. Hi,

I have just been experimenting with Missing Files and changed the name of an image from a project in Windows Explorer. Opening up the project in PTE 9 now displays the Missing File menu. Selecting "Find and select" takes me to the original folder where I then selected the same image but which now has a different name and after confirming this is the image I want, select OK. The  remains the same  in the Slide List but shows the new name in O&A. In other words, I change the name of an image from say Water to Running Water in windows explorer. Having confirmed this is the image I now wish to use, in the Slide List the name remains Water, but if I look in O&A it now shows as Running Water.

  7. Hi Igor,

If I have a project open in PTE and set up Key Frames for animation on a slide in O&A and the setting in Preferences for Scale Key Frames is not selected then, of course, if I change the slide duration there will be no repositioning of the Key Frames. If, with the project open, I now go to Preferences and select Scale Key Frames and then change the slide duration, in version 9 this has no effect on the positions of the Key Frames already set. I believe in previous versions they would have been scaled in an open project when the Preferences were changed. In order to Scale Key Frames now in an open project the only way is to use the slide Options as Barry has commented.

    Hope this is clear.

  8. Hi,

Someone asked me to have a look at a problem they had in putting a number of slide shows on a DVD and getting them to run correctly. I created a disc with 5 slide shows using a 3 x 2 menu template which shows five black boxes which I altered to show required frame in each case. I then burnt the DVD.

In PTE Project Options Full Screen selected and Fix Size not selected. In each case in Video Builder Project Options:- PAL - 16:9 - 7000 - Auto - Antiflicker selected - MPEG Audio - 320kb/s - Return to Menu selected. On the menu template 3 x 2 - Animated Menu not selected - Return to menu selected and Menu duration not selected.

When the DVD is in the TV player the menu comes up showing all of the shows and the first show is selected. If I use the right arrow key on the TV remote I can get as far as the last show on the top line (third show), further use of the right arrow key does nothing and pressing the left arrow key either does nothing or will only go back to the second show but not the first. I am unable to use any of the arrow keys to access the fourth show (First one on bottom line of menu). If I select the third show on the top line of the menu I can use the down arrow key to access the fifth show (last one on bottom line of menu).

As an exercise I have done this in Both PTE V8 and V9 beta 2 with the same result.

I have had little experience of producing DVD's and wonder if anyone has had similar problems. I know most people will be using USB sticks and smart TV's but would like to know if there is a solution.

  9. Hi Jill,

Thank Jill, I have looked at that option and it does work but I wondered if Igor had considered the possibility of global linking of audio clips similar to the way Key Frames can be globally linked which is an excellent addition to PTE. It could possibly allow globe editing such as increase/decrease volumes of all clips selected.

  10. Great to have PTE9 and all the changes.

I suspect the question has been asked before but is there a plan to have global selection of sound clips such that if an additional slide were to be added the sound clips on one or all tracks could be selected and moved globally to accommodate ?

  11. Hi All,

Firstly apologies for the long delay in replying to all your comments. The reason I needed the details was to help a lady at our local camera club who is still using PTE 7. With a little help she has now resolved her problem and so I would like to say thank you to all of you who replied.

I am still trying to persuade her to update to the latest version of PTE but I guess she may be best waiting for PTE 9? Any signs of a beta version yet?

    All the best

    TC

  12. I know nobody has looked at this post yet but it seems that the version of PTE 7 that the lady has is just the standard version and O&A are not available in this version. I hope someone might be able to confirm this please.

  13. Hi All,

Cracked it!!! Following my understanding of Dave's demo tutorial I have created a background "Screen" for each image in the show and added the original images as a Child of each of the "Screens". Using the "Change Image File" by right clicking on an image and replacing it with the 1920 x 1080 Black Image (Screen) and then placing the original image as a Child of the Black Image. This process was repeated for each image in the sequence. By doing it this way all the timings were kept and anywhere there were masks or text files these were "Copied" and then pasted to the Black Image and the original text/masks deleted. This ensured that any Keyframes and timing associated with Text and Masks was retained. Once the sequence had been changed in its entirety I went into Project Options/Default Tab and under "% of the slide to show main images" set this to 92% and this has solved the problem.

Re the pale appearance of the sequence, this was down to settings on the TV which have now been altered and all is well.

Thanks to all for your input on this, it is appreciated.

Hi Dave, must have been typing this when you replied. Once again many thanks for your help.

  14. Hi Tony,

"The Screen" is your Background which can be any colour you wish. Not a separate image.

    DG

    Hi Dave,

I understand that the Black Image sized at 1920 x 1080 is the screen. What I am asking is, do I have a screen/Black Image for every image in the sequence. This can be done quite easily by using "Change Image" and replacing it with the Black Image and in O&A "Add/Image" where the "image" is the one which has been replaced by the Black Image (if that makes sense!) and repeating this for every image in the sequence. If you are saying that the Black Image or Parent is only used once, this means that all the timings for the whole show need to be done by adding all the individual images in the sequence and making them a Child to the one Parent and then using Keyframes for the transitions and timing.

Sorry if I sound a little confused but I want to get this correct as the video will be used as a demonstration for a historical venue.

    Thanks agin

    Tony

  15. Tony,

I don't think that is what Lin said?

It is OK to use 1920x1080 images but be aware that when making a DVD they are re-sized to fit 768x576 and then upscaled by the DVD Player to fit your TV screen.

    DG

    Hi Dave,

Many thanks for your reply and for the link. I have watched your demo and would just like to confirm that you seem to be saying every image of the sequence needs to be placed on a black background of 1920 x 1080 as a child. I am assuming each image requires a separate 1920 x 1080 black background image and when the sequence is complete set the "% of the slide to show main images" in the project options /default tab should be set to 90-92% depending on TV. Is this correct?

    Tony
