  1. I read all the topics I could find on sizing and it throws up a basic question.

My presentation will be for a camera club audience [our AV selection night is in September], and we are told to limit our images to 1400 x 1050 for normal club competitions. Our AV shows are burned to DVD and displayed through the clubs projector, via the clubs DVD player or laptop.

    1. Would it be best for me to crop my original images to 1400x1050?

    2. Fill the screen or apply a fancy BG and perhaps a border? [i know this must be a real personal preference thing, but any advice would be welcome]

    3. Masks - Is it best to colour any masks [basic rectangle masks etc] to compliment the BG colour?

That'll get me started and I'll try to keep the questions sensible.

Thanks for the help previously and in future.

    Andrew.

i would not worry at this point as to how long the show is - just keep it at the same speed as you are going

if it is going to be a long show enable manual control so viewers can pause show

it is going to be a great show once you get the pages oriented in the right direction :)

you must have had a couple Caledonia 80/'s B)

    Hi Ken,

I started out with around 6:30secs, but after reading the handouts I was directed to in another question, I started again. I'm now on v.3

 My tipple of choice back in the day was McEwans Export [bottled]. Nowadays I'm forbidded 'cause the last thing you want to see is a drunked Scotsman in a power wheelchair. Does'nt bear thinking about

  3. Hi Andrew,

I agree with DaveG about the book effect. I think you need to use "Curling of Page - Rolling up from right" to get the proper effect. I would also start with a black slide and a couple of seconds of silence. This gives time for the audience to settle down before the first image appears.

You certainly have some good images of Beamish. If all 200 are of a similar quality I can understand your concerns about getting carried away.

Whatever length of sequence you end up with, I foresee one potential problem. All the transitions are going to be the same type in order to give the picture-book feel that you want to achieve. So I think that you will need to experiment with different durations of transitions and with different durations of the images as well, in order to inject some variation into the pace of the sequence. Any sequence that uses the same transition type at the same duration throughout the show runs a very real risk of coming across as boring in its predictability.

One final thought on the music: I'm not sure that a piece with the feel of American country music is the best choice for this subject matter.

Having said all of that, I have to agree with DaveG: you seem to be heading in the right general direction! Keep up the good work!

    regards,

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I agree with you entirely. So I think a few masks with some slight zooming or panning is in order. I've been looking at examples all day, and hopefully have a few ideas.

The images are almost straight out of the camera. A small tweak in levels and thats it. Great lens the Canon EOS 28-90 zoom.

I'll definately look at the choice of music again. I dont want to go down the drain on that when everything else is coming together.

Thank you for the help and advice, it's nice to know I can get that kind of support as and when I need it.

    Andrew.

  4. Hi Andrew,

I think that you are on the right track, but I would offer a couple of suggestions:

When uploading to Mediafire ZIP the EXE file?

The book effect seems to be "backwards"? The impression is of the "spine" of the book being on the right hand side and not the more normal left hand side.

Your show ends abruptly on the "CREDITS" title page.

Nice images of a place I visited a few years ago.

    DaveG

    Hi Dave,

I never gave a thought to the way the page turns!! That's a great point. Thank you.

I will zip the file in Mediafire in future. Is that .Rar or .Zip tho? I have Winrar but not Winzip.

    Andrew.

  5. I've been pondering this project since returning from a short holiday recently. The subject is Beamish Village Museum in County Durham [England]. Its a living museum with characters, shops, houses and is dedicated to the 1800's. I came back with over 200 images and want to do the show as a picturebook. I've done this short show as an example and would appreciate any feedback as to presentation, sizing, and is the picturebook a good format.

    The example is:

    6.25meg

    10 slides

    1:30secs

The problem is since there was nowhere my wheelchair could'nt go, I have a wealth of images and it would be very easy to get carried away. The final show would be for a camera club audience in September.

Thank you for any help given, I do appreciate it.

    Andrew.

    Show here.

Edit:Thanks to TheDom for the Photocorners

  6. I'm keen to learn everything I can on PTE shows and this may well have been asked before, if so please accept my apologies.

When you experienced authors start your sequence of work, I know the images must come first, but then what? Do you have a plan in mind before you begin? Do you [like me right now] open the folder, load some images then think about it? I have just returned from a short holiday and took all my pictuers with PTE in mind, so now I have set about the enhancement of the images in PS and have PTE running and setting the images in as I enhance them. Sound selection, is also playing a part in my creation. Does this sound to fragmented a sequence?

Any advice would be most welcome.

  7. As a very basic newbie to P2E,I pondered over this question when first trying it out. I searched for shows [before I found this forum] and watched hours of them.

What got my attention was the fact that the authors did in fact fill the screen. I love to see that, but I do like the image within a border too.

Thus far I have learned to keep the shows I have done [which will be for CC audience's ] to around 6 mins - 40 slides.

As yet I dont know enough about monitor size and resolution to add anything usefull. I will watch this discussion with great interest tho, to [hopefully] learn a bit more.

This is of-course a newbie's opinion, not as Barry, asked an experienced author's view.

    Andrew.

  8. I MADE PARTICULAR NOTICE OF THE FACT NOBODY HAD A MICKEY OF WHISKEY IN THEIR BACK POCKET

    :)

but then i was enjoying a 1/2 pint of KILKENNY and my eyes might have missed something :)

    ken

There were police everywhere Ken. You get your collar felt for public drinking in Scotland.

  9. I liked the sepia toning and the subtle colour popping. Beautiful crisp images - nice portrait of the banjo player. Excellent choice of closing shot.

I felt that the tempo of the images could be raised a little - either more images or shorter music track.

I also felt that the "frame" was a little fussy - the titles, by the way run out of the frame when viewing on my 1920x1200 monitor. I would have liked to have been told what the ideal viewing resolution was?

    Excellent.

    DaveG

Thanks Dave. I have a long way to go with this programme. I never gave a thought to the viewing aspect of different monitors, but will include that in future. The frame was by way of ' playing around '. I also felt that I needed more images to pad out the Soundtracks. #2 was to short I felt. Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I do appreciate it.

    Andrew

  10. I cant seem to find anything which tells me how I can get a second sound track in the project options to play immediately after the first. There is a gap of 1 full slide [8secs] which is too long. I downloaded the manual and printed it out and have searched the help but to no avail. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Andrew
