  2. I install and use each beta as it appears and have had no real problems in burning DVDs before. I am currently using beta 13 and have just found a problem. Randomly I chose beta 7 and the same problem occurred. Here's the scenario. I have 8 separate PTE shows which I want to burn to a DVD with a front-end menu. Those 8 shows play perfectly by themselves and have no problems. The shows are quite basic, with no pan or zoom effects. I choose a menu template and choose a 4x2 option so that I get all my thumbnails on one screen. The DVD creation process starts, with the converting of the files to MPEG2. That works OK. The menu converts to MPEG2. That's OK also. During the VOB files multiplexing the program terminates with the error 'Author.exe Abnormal Program Termination' I have tried to isolate the problem with no success. PTE Videobuilder tells me that the DVD would be 3.21 GB and play for 1hr 03 min if it worked. If I stick with a 4x2 layout but only use a max of 4 shows, it works OK. If I use a 2x2 layout with more than 4 shows so that it uses 2 pages for the menu, I get the error. If I use a 3x2 layout with a max of 6 shows, it works. I'm lost for ideas at the moment - what am I missing here?? Regards, wideangle
  3. I am a newbie and using ver 5.1 I have manged to successfully burn some AVs to disc and play them in my dvd player, yet with this latest project im having trouble and i dunno why, basically the file plays fine on the comp and when its burnt to disc when viewed on the tv or the comp i have pics on top of each other bleeding into each other very jumpy transitions i am using Roxio to burn the disc, and have tried using varying brand of disc all which werent any good, Ive used Roxio on my other AVs with no prob so i dunno what the prob can be and as i said the file plays fine on the comp. One other question in the timeline box I have the "Sync music and slides" highlighted and also "Auto spread slides along music" highlighted. what is the difference?
  4. hi, i have just made a slideshow and ready to burn to dvd disc, i have tried twice, it tells me it is converting to mpeg2, and going through all the procedures of burning, it tells me it is burning to disc, when its finished, i try out my burnt disc, but nothing on there, i have tried it through the pc and a stand alone dvd player, but nothing, when i check what is on the disc it gives me a blank. am i not setting up properly, please help
  5. For those using You Tube, the aspect ratio of the player has now been changed to 16:9 instead of 4:3. Anything new that you upload can be prepared in this format. Existing videos haven't been changed though, so now play back with a black border. Unfortunately even if an existing video is in wide-screen format, it still plays back in a small window inside the new frame, unless You Tube are working on converting them. Igor - would it be possible to tweak the You Tube uploader to cater for this change and also to give a hi-res option? Videos uploaded in hi-res give the viewer the choice of watching in standard or high quality. Users also have the option of configuring You Tube to always play in high quality if available. Ian
  6. I'm a new user, and I know this is pretty basic but, I seem to be having trouble creating a disk that will play in my DVD player. I get an error that tells me that the file can't be played due to a "area restriction"???? Does this pertain to the screen size or something? How do I make a disk that can be played back on any DVD player or cumputer?? Would greatly appreciate any tips here. Thanks

  8. Hi I am a new boy and am having difficulty in writing to DVD. I have version 5.5 delux and when I click on the video button I get a message 'CD burning not supported' My DVD burner is a Hewlett Packard DVD Writer 200j v1.13. Can anybody help?
  9. Like others here, I've been struggling to make an AVI file that doesn't miraculously disappear when it's saved. I've found the help and followed all the advice but am still stuck. Having found out I need mpeg4 codec, I downloaded ACE Mega CoDecs Pack and opened the 'Dashboard'. I selected the mpeg4, tried 'load' and 'apply' then rebooted. But - back in PTE - when I get to the stage in Create AVI where the mpeg4 should appear in the dropdown list...it's not there! The help instructions on how to make an AVI just say download and 'install' the mpeg4. I don't know whether it's installed and PTE can't find it, or whether it's not installed properly? Would be very grateful for any advice! Thank you.
  10. Hello Boardmembers My first project is complete and if you are interested, I invite you to download my presentation comprised of pictures I have taken over my 4-1/2 years in Iraq. The photos are set to music by Phillip Sheppard. The download is 48 Megabytes. I welcome constructive critisum, both artistically and techically. I'd also like to know if the entire show plays smoothly without one particular 'sticky' slide. http://www.gulag.net/video/slides/CMC-LEGACY.exe Now I am trying to create the avi file. I have read everything about doing so here, but having a problem. I select 'Create custom AVI file'. I choose MPEG4 Video Compression v1. (have also tried v2 and 3) Additionally, I select 'Interlaced Video'. I rename file with .avi extension The progress bar pops up, and remains at 00%. I have left it overnight thinking it was a long process as my composition is 48 megabytes. However, it was still at 00% after 12 hours. I cancelled the process but the app appeared to be hung, and I had to kill it off in task manager. Im using 5.52 I have 1 gig of RAM / 2.8 gig processor / XP pro with service pack2 / and a 64MB nVidia graphics card. As always, I am very much obliged for all assistance.
  11. Can anyone help? - I've got PTE 5 Deluxe complete with VideoBuilder and I really like the way VideoBuilder allows me to create DVDs of my PTE slideshows. I like the control over the DVD menu and I'd like to be able to use the same program to create DVDs of my videos, created with Adobe Premiere. The VideoBuilder main window has the text "Add PicturesToExe project files (*.pte) or video files here" but I've had no success in adding video files. I usually create avi files within Premiere but I've also tried exporting my video as MPEG for DVD. VideoBuilder doesn't see the MPEG files at all and the avi files are displayed with a big red cross, and no image - I'm guessing that means they're not compatible. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks
  12. Hello, While searching a program for cretaing HD slide shows i ended up downloading PTE. I made a small slide show and want to create a 1920 * 1080 HD avi file. Preview works fine but when i want to create a file i can give the file a name but no output is created. Can anyone help me out? The program looks fine and if i can get it to work i will buy it.
  13. Hello Board Members.. Slideshow.exe works fine, but when I create an AVI or a DVD, I get only audio. NO VIDEO. Im using MPEG4 codec.
  14. After a long absence as a PTE user (v3.x era), I upgraded to v5.5 Deluxe with VideoBuilder this past week. In fact, it’s been so long my original membership to this forum has evidently been purged, so I created a new one. To learn the new features of 5.5, I opened an old slideshow I had created years ago and proceeded to modify it using some of the new pan, zoom, etc, capabilities of 5.5. This went well and I then chose VideoBuilder to create a DVD, which also went well and the DVD played exceptionally well on my NTSC TV system. I was very pleased with 5.5 and VideoBuilder to say the least. I did note one problem however. I had assigned a music clip (.mp3) to play with the menu created with VideoBuilder, but this music did not play on the TV. Everything else functioned perfectly. I then created another DVD, same result. A third attempt using different music (known to be a good mp3 file because it plays in the background of the slideshow itself) produced the same result – no music with the menu. A search of the forum did not turn up anything addressing this problem as far as I could determine. If someone has an idea as to what I may have missed or am doing wrong, a reply would be much appreciated. mcinal
  15. Hi, I've tried finding a solution to my problem but cannot find anything. Perhaps someone can help me. I realise I'm doing something wrong. I made a show with images at 1920 x 1080 and when making a DVD via Videobuilder the results are cropped slightly. Everything shows OK when previewing on my monitor (24" iMac using Bootcamp) but not in the screen at the top right hand (size set at 16:9DVD). Should I have the size of my jpeg's smaller than I have them to enable the full image to show correctly (Black border around everything)? Thanks
  16. I am having trouble burning DVDs with PTE 5.5 Deluxe (and 5.1). Various failures have occurred but the latest (and repetitive) failure is at the start of the burn itself and I get a message saying "This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." Other times the burn seems to have been completed and the disc ejected but the disk contains nothing. I have used this feature before without difficulty. In desperation, I created an AVI file and burned a DVD using Roxio 'My DVD Plus' with complete success (even managed to add supplementary video clips which I couldn't ever do with PTE). I also tried using the pop-up recommended software 'Express Burn' and that failed on two occasions. I wonder if my copy of PTE is corrupted since the burner seems to work with the Roxio software.
  17. I'm trying to burn dvd's using the burn DVD video disk option. When it gets to the part where it should burn the DVD I am getting a runtime error that says the program has asked to terminate in an unusual way. Now what do I do?
  18. When I try to make an avi-file, the pte popupwindow asks me to open a program for burning a dvd. But I don't want to burn. I want an avi file on my harddisk. Can anyone tell me the thing I have to do? Now I click on "video", "click in the radiobutton for making avi", "click on make avi". There is a avi file created on my disk. But the popupwindow of pte tells me that when I close that window teh avi file will be discarded. And indeed it is discarded. So my only choice is to make a dvd. When I copy the avi to another location, while the popupwindow is open, I can play that avi on the other location. Then I close the popupwindow. But when I then try to play the avi (the copied avi) I only have sound, no images. Please give me detailed information how to do. Thank you.
  19. Apologies if this has been covered before; I can't find any topics on this problem. I create a DVD with menu and multiple sequences. This DVD plays correctly on my PC using PowerDVD. When I put the DVD into my Sony DVD recorder connnected to my TV, the menu does not appear and the first sequence runs - and that's all. I cannot get the menu to appear, so can play only the one sequence. Commercial DVDs play fine, on both PC and DVD player. The contents of my DVD, and commercial DVDs, appear to be similar. I have tried recordable DVDs and RW DVDs. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Alan
  20. From Vimeo..... For those of you who are sticking with the free account, here's the deal: you're going to have some new limitations. First of all, you'll only be able to upload one HD video per week. You will also be limited to creating 1 Group, 1 Channel and 3 Albums. It really does pain us to impose these limits, because we want you all to be happy, productive Vimeans, but we feel that if you're going to be a power user, you should help us keep Vimeo working by purchasing a Plus account. We appreciate your support more than you'll ever know. The good news is that you keep all of your existing Groups, Channels and Albums, even if you remain a free account user. It looks like they are selling one year plans to allow only 1000 views of an HD video for about $60 per year. Restrictions on the free use as seen above. I'm not convinced with the present quality that it's really worth it for me. I can convert to Flash which actually plays smoother than the Vimeo HD with PTE output and store on my own site. Hard to say whether it's more or less economical to pay for conversion software and web storage space or use the @$60 per year subscription or just stay with the now limited to one HD video per week free version of Vimeo. Best regards, Lin
  21. I am new to picture to Exe and I would like to know what codecs to use when creating and avi slideshow that I can take into a web page using Dreamweaver? Can anyone give me advice. Thanks.
  22. As title says, I need to create a permanent AVI file, for eventual importing into Adobe Premiere Pro. If PTE cant do this within itself, then I'm looking for suggestions on what I need to get it done. Looking to skip the step of burning it then pulling the AVI off a disk, as it would simply be a waste. Additionally maintaining quality is important (if this even factors into any answers) I need to keep it max qual in 1080. Thanks in advance, Rex
  23. I'm posting here wearing my "FAQ Compiler's hat". Last month I posted a draft FAQ in the Tutorials section on the subject: Why is the DVD-Video picture quality poor on my TV? (See here: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....showtopic=8721) That draft was compiled from material extracted from several other posts on the Forum, most notably those by Brian (Conflow) Following discussions involving both Brian and DaveG (some of which took place off-forum via an exchange of PMs), I now feel that my own knowledge and understanding is still incomplete. So I am looking for help. I understand the issues involved in selecting an image size (pixels x pixels) for a show destined to be viewed on a computer monitor or projected via a digital projector. But I am less clear about the situation with respect to image size in sequences destined for DVD burning and TV viewing. My current understanding of the DVD-TV issues is as follows: The act of preparing the images for burning to DVD will always result in the images being re-sampled to either 720x576 for a PAL system or 720x480 for an NTSC system. Three questions on that statement: Is it correct? Are those two systems the only two systems that Video-Builder supports? And if not, what pixel dimensions apply to the other systems? Would a pass through re-sampling still take place even if the original images were 720x576 (for PAL) or 720x480 (for NTSC)? And if so, would that pass make any other significant changes to the images? When the DVD-Video is played back, there will always be a re-sampling pass in order to scale the image up to the actual resolution of the TV being used? Is that correct? On both occasions that re-sampling occurs there will be, as a consequence, a loss of definition and a loss of perceived sharpness. The image will be degraded not just once but twice! Is that correct? The above statements are applicable to playback on both analogue and digital TV systems. Is that true? Hoping you can help me get my own understanding up to the mark so that I can then distil that into a revised version of the FAQ. regards, Peter

  25. I want to produce a DVD with two shows on the same disc, one 4-3 & one 16-9 to allow the user to chose the ratio to suit their TV. I read the "pinned" article in the Burn DVD section http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/aspect-ratio.htm but it is a little out of date. My TV has an auto ratio selection mode that when I play a DVD produced from a 4-3 show, fills the screen with the bottom line of the text at he bottom of the screen cut off. When I set the ratio selection to manual either 4-3 or 16-9 I get the black borders as shown on the tutorial. Has anyone managed to burn two shows onto one disc in the two formats, if so did you change the basic picture size from 1024x768 when producing the shows. Another way I've just considered is to copy the shows into my DVD recorder then burn them to one disc in turn, has anyone done this? Yachtsman1
