If you are using PTE v6.5 (any beta level) then you can apply adjustments to your music tracks.You can specify at what point in your sequence the music should start (via the Offset value); at what point in your music item the playback should begin (via the Start time value) and at what point in your music item playback should end (via the Duration value)regards,Peter Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

fh1805 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 Joy,Ken has pointed you to v6.5 beta 12 (the latest beta version). Your v6.0.1 does not have the ability to manipulate audio tracks. You need v6.5 to do that. Because v6.5 is still in its beta programme, it isn't available via the WnSoft.com website. It is only available via this forum. PTE v6.5 will co-exist on your PC alongside v6.0.1 but remember: once you have editted a PTE project in v6.5 you cannot then edit it at all in v6.0.1.regards,Peter Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Photofanatic Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks to everyone I have now got the 6.5 beta version on my PC - Would you suggest it a good idea to uninstall the 6.0 version if I cant edit slideshows in that that have been edited in the 6.5 version? fh1805 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 Joy,As I said in my previous post, PTE v6.5 installs alongside v6.0. So you do not need to remove v6.0 straightaway. You could keep both whilst you try out the new features of v6.5 (on a copy of your project file and not on the real thing!!!).Once you feel comfortable with v6.5, then you can uninstall v6.0.But do remember that after editing and saving a project file using v6.5 you will not be able to open that project in any earlier version of PTE.regards,Peter Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Photofanatic Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 I have now successfully determined the start time of a particular track and using the additional audio features in the 6.5 version I have set it to last for 2 mins in the duration (This is less than the actual length of the track) and put in a 2 sec fade out. When I preview it however the duration and fade out settings do not have any effect and the track plays for its full length - can you tell me if its possible to fade the track out completely after a certain lentgh of time and how? Your duration wil be 2 minutes where mine is 10 seconds. Your fade out will be however long you made it, mine is 2 seconds. fh1805 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Share Posted July 19, 2010 Joy,If you can read a waveform (in terms of picking out relevant passages, then you can use it to help identify the points in the audio file where you want the start and end to be. But more usefully still, you can use it to reduce the volume of one track when set against a second track playing at the same time - known as mixing.For complex soundtracks, involving several pieces of music, sections of voice-over and perhaps natural sounds or sound effects, most AV workers prefer to use a specialist audio file editor such as Audacity or Audition. But I have found these new features of PTE v6.5 to be useful for doing a rough cut: assessing whether the music and images are working well together and whether the music and other sounds are working together. I then create the final soundtrack mix in Audacity.As with all these things, be it PTE, Photoshop, Lightroom, NX2, Audacity, Audition or any other piece of software, the individual user has to determine how best to include them into their personal workflow.regards,Peter Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
