Cool system!! TIger changes their stripes so fast, this is "no longer available" per their search engine - LOL.

That's a really neat system and should keep you busy tinkering with software installation and such for a few Heineken's worth of pleasure!

Looking forward to hearing how it fares with video and such as time goes on.

Best regards,

Lin

Ken,

The case and all its air control should pretty much handle all the heat generated by all the new high performace hardware and products out there. Im a true believer in keeping things cool ... heat is the primary element that can greatly reduce the lifespan of equipment. Now its only controlling the dust intake these open-air cases can collect ... its not really a problem if one keeps good maintenance habits

:D

New Note:

Since I see you are running some Western Digital HD

(WDC WD1002FAEX-007BA0 [Hard drive] (1000.20 GB) -- drive 2, s/n WD-WMAY00484007, rev 05.01D05, SMART Status: Healthy<br style="line-height: 23px; ">WDC WD1002FAEX-007BA0 [Hard drive] (1000.20 GB)

Western Digital has its own free Acronis Backup version software available at its site. I gave up using my Ghost because of SATA drive recognition issues. The WD Acronis version works flawlessly ... as I ran it thru all drive restore scenarios I could think of. Its not as fully featured as the Acronis Full Version one buys.

See:

Acronis True Image WD Edition Software

http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119&wdc_lang=en

*It will work with other HD brands ... but you need at least one WD Drive (internal or external) for the software to install.

new box boot time 51 secs

we have plugged in 1 760 gb usb drive approx 3/4 full and an empty 1 tb usb drive

will have to reboot with them discoed to see if they affect the boot

ran Peter's kalidescope show from years ago no problem -- i used to have problems off and on when he first published it when i tried to run it with #1 system

exe vs a divx movie

I DECIDED TO RUN SOME TESTS ON THE MY NEW SYSTEM TO SEE HOW CPU USE ETC. RUNNING AN EXE VS A FULL LENGTH DIVX MOVIE

I don't have the tools to run a proper test so used what I had :)

Lin made an exe using early 5.7 beta +- 100 Mb -- I have it installed on my XP sp3 - ati 256 allinwonder card and a soundblaster card

on the new system I used the on board graphics and sound

there was some concern as to having enough to run p2e shows with this setup

I had to find out how to get to desktop ASAP to read win 7 CPU use gadget

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Keyboard-shortcut

windows key+d - gives the desktop also on xp

once things were leveled out I took reading on the gadget - normal reading is 01%/13%

started lins show and let system stabilize

rdgs were as follows

10/15

9/18

10/17

these rdgs were repeatable

Lin's show was steady till his last section where he really brings things in and out - there were some very slight jerks

then I started the full length divx movie

rdgs were

5%/13% all the way thru

I then started Lin's exe show on the xp system

I used taskmon to get

page file use 1.97 gb

cpu 20%

the same jerks appeared at the same place

I am satisfied with the results

but does anybody have suggestions before i post this in my thread re new system for general info to the members of the forum

Ken,

There is a small free tool (no install required) which can tell you your graphical card - GPU Load and Video Load and several other sensors if your graphics card supports the features. Its a handy tool for the graphic card and it performance specs.

The tool should be able to show you a % (min, max, current) on how hard your video card is working for your exe test and video test.

I used it to monitor my new graphic card install for voltage and temps to make sure the card was working correctly. The newer the graphic card and its features available will display in the tool. The tool does not sensor/compare cpu usuage.

You might find it a handy tool to have ... especially when building new pcs.
