  1. I hope, we have enough reliable and good version 4.47 and we're working on the next major version 5.00

As I know there is no similar slide-show maker products at this moment with ideal Pan/Zoom effects in real-time (except of product with video rendering, DVD for example).

A task to realize Pan/Zoom effects in real-time similar to write "engine" for modern games, like Half-Life 2 or Doom3 which were in development several years.

I know there is ProShow, a very good product, but they're still experiencing problem with stability of motion effects and problem happens even on top-end GeForce 6800. And they're still working on improvement of program. Because it's a very difficult task to realize these effects in real-time on various hardware.

It could be faster, if NVIDIA, ATI, Matrox, Intel didn't add some tricks with optimization which often affect to quality of picture or realiability of the program. It's good for games, but not for slide-show where we need ideal quality and absolute stability. So all our work is continious exploration of ways to find one optimal solution for every part of the task.

At this moment we have internal alpha and can watch slide-show with various effects and we need a very little time to polish some last moments for the beta.

Our mistake - we too earlier announced works on v5.00, we could work on both versions together and there will be no such long waiting. Sorry.

  2. I've prepared a little updated PTE v4.47

Please test it, it contains changes in main program only, no changes in slide-show engine.

    http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/pte447.zip (1.4 MB)

    What's new in v4.47:

    Main program of PicturesToExe:

    - Fixed problem with incorrect order of slides after adding of copied slides to the end.

    - Fixed problem of v4.46 when temp folder of PicturesToExe was mistakenly located in My documents. This problem happened only with main program of PicturesToExe.

    - Fixed problem with drag-n-drop in file panels under Windows Vista (Beta) with 3D Aero Glass interface.

    Slide-show engine:

    + No problem found.

  3. If you buy new laptop choose model with NVIDIA GeForce 6400, 5700, 7300 or any higher

    or ATI Radeon 9700, X300, X600, X700, X1300 or any higher.

This laptop will works fine with PTE v5.00 and also will fully support new graphical interface of Windows Vista (October-November of this year).

p.s. I bought wonderful LCD projector - Panasonic PT-AE900. Althought it's wide screen 1280x720, it perfect for slide-shows - almost noiseless, no screendoor effect at all, terrific colors like best CRT displays, and perfect contrast. No "rainbow" effect and no flickering, of course.

We've added special screen mode (as option) to v5.00 to show slide on full area of wide screen with croping of sides.

    - Fit to screen (as in current PTE, by default)

    - Cover the screen (this new option).

And ability to manage these modes via command lines for any slide-show (e.g. "Myslideshow.exe -coverscreen").

  4. Igor, you said quite some time ago that you would produce a slide presentation showing what the program can do! Will this also be available when the Beta1 come out?

    Yes

I believe that step by step all computers will be renewed, however I know how it difficult to decide to replace current reliable working PC/laptop well designed for own tasks.

  5. v5.00 still doesn't allow to insert video clips to a slide.

    Concerning objects.

You can add an object, and then insert a second object to the first object, and etc. So you can have complex hierarchy of embedded objects. A very interesting possibilities for animation, because an every object can has individial Pan/Zoom/Rotate and size, Opacity parameters. You can emulate Fade effect in one slide.

Also, for example, if you rotate one object, embedded objects will rotate, too. Like model of Solar system :)

  6. Dave,

For PTE v5.00 any CPU enough (900 Mhz and higher).

I'm not sure about your video card. Please wait for the first beta very, very soon. We polish last small moments to release beta #1.

GeForce 4 MX 440 for desktop PC has fine performance in PTE v5.00 and can gives about 140 frames per second.

  7. I highly don't recommend to buy any laptop or PC with integrated Intel video solutions. Like i855 or i915

They have not enough performance. Intel even said that those video cards will not support new 3D Aero Glass Windows Vista interface.

Ideal video cards in laptop for PTE v5.00 are:

    NVIDIA GeForce - 5700, 5800, 5900, 6600, 6800, 7200, 7800, 7900 or

    ATI Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, X200, X300, X600, X800, X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900

    For PC:

NVIDIA GeForce 3, GeForce 4, Geforce FX or any higher described above.

ATI Radeon 8500, 9200 or any higher described above.

  8. PTE engine in EXE file already compressed.

Images and music in EXE file can be compressed.

For example, if you add BMP files and create EXE file, it will be well reduced after compression to ZIP archive. I checked this moment several times and all works as I expected.

  9. JPD

You're right, maybe it will more fast for loading of slides to add BMP32 and compress all EXE to ZIP archive. Overall file size will be maybe smaller that EXE with PNGs.

By the way, in case of simple text label with shadow (787x152) it has 45 KB in PNG format and 467 KB in BMP32 and 42 KB in ZIP archive with BMP32.

p.s. concerning EXE file size of that slide-show.

    36 images - 18 821 19 bytes

    3 sound files - 11 451 046 bytes

    1 project file - 38 565

    Total: 30 311 230 bytes

    Final EXE file with (PTE engine - 254 464 bytes) = 30 564 774 bytes
