  1. To jupiter

Thanks for your first posting on our forum, but we consider that it's not best way to announce new version of another software (especially giving a large "what's new" list). So please correct your posting.

No problem, if it was logically required during discussion where member of course in right to write about another product (e.g. in context of an interesting feature).

  2. JanieB

I really apologize for this strange problem!

    Please let me know:

    1) Did it ever work quickly?

    2) Please can you temporary turn off (5-10 minutes, during time of testing) all resident utilities such as Norton Anitivirus, Norton Internet Security, Norton Utilities? And check up PicturesToExe again.

    3) Can you allow us to send you special test variants?

    My email address is igor@wnsoft.com

    Thanks,

  3. I just thoughted I could add simple protection in this situation when

resolution of a source picture in several times greater than it's really necessary.

In preview of picture (main window and cust. synch. window) we use

wonderful option of Jpeg format when it allows to load picture

    scaled as 1:1 (full size), 1:2, 1:4 or 1:8. So that 1200 dpi's picture

(7000x4000 pixels) will be loaded in 8 times faster and with lesser

memory usage (for example in case of 800x600 screen resolution).

p.s. one only moment with printing - it will require to reload main

picture with original full size to be able print it in maximal quality.

  4. I find interersting idea about Hotspots in Visual editor of objects. Thank you. We'll discuss scripts support, highlighting and sound effects.

Optional "Thumbnails" view of Slide list in our plans.

Now we're near to finish work on the new mp3 player, and probably OGG Vorbis support can be added in the future.

  5. To think(box)

Yes, you was right about the slow startup with 4000's slides presentation.

It still takes a lot of time to be loaded. About 10 seconds on my Athlon XP 1600+. But "JukeBox" presentation which has 16000 lines of .pte file (and same size - 670 KB) starts up in 0.3 of second.

Now we found a reason of it. It happens because first kind of show has 4000 sections on .pte file. One section for every slide ([slide1] Picture=abc <...> [slide4000] Picture=abc) and second ("JukeBox") has only 37 slides and 37 sections in its .pte file, but with a lot number of objects.

So now we able to fix this problem with a presentations which have more than 300..500 slides. It will require to add special optimization. And even 14000 slides will be loaded during short time.

Thank you again for finding of this interesting problem!

    With kindest regards,

  6. Ok, I also will check with similar PC configuration, you've described (P-150).

I remember that Jukebox which has 600 Kb of .pte project file starts on the notebook PII-233 in 3 seconds when produced in v4.00. And more than 2 minutes if v3.80. Anyway, that is really interesting subject for the exploration!

We plan to add slide control, and I hope about v4.10

This suggestion in our TODO list.

  7. First, check with ScanDisk your drives.

Delete "apr.ini" file from a folder where installed PicturesToExe (usually: C:\Program Files\PicturesToExe). C:\Program Files\PicturesToExe). Unistall PicturesToExe and install it again in some folder.

Now open that project. If problem with that errors will ocur again, please send me igor@wnsoft.com .pte file of the project and I'll try to repair it.

p.s. if you've worked with INI files, you can yourself check .pte file.

  8. Dear Bill,

I'm very pleased to see your wonderful exploration!

It also will help us to make PicturesToExe better and faster when we learn about wishes and needs of the creators of presentations.

    * A presentation should always clear the temp folder when it closes normally.

Anyway it won't be actual in the future, because now we're developing the new mp3 player which plays music directly from .exe file. And *no* temp files are required. And presentation with mp3 music will start as quickly as it was without mp3 music.

    * Sorry, I'm missed suggestion about "Slider control". Please couldn't someone let me know URL of those necessary topics?

    * I'll check that problem with producing phase of a 1GB's .EXE file. Thanks!

    * I was wondered that v3.80's presentations start in 50 times faster in comparison with presentations created in v4.0x! Because only since v4.00 we have vastly optimized startup phase. And presentation with large .pte project file (14,000 slides and/or thousands of objects)

starts faster as never before. For example "Jukebox" presentations (165 slides and 50 objects per each slide) produced in v3.80 starts under Athlon 1600MHz in 28 seconds and with optimized v4.00 startup takes only 1/3 of second!

Please couldn't you check again to test v3.80 and v4.00?

    Thank you,

    And with best regards!

  9. OK! No errors will be displayed even requested file is not found.

Important point if can be added but not a must:

Let PTE check if the external file if running or not. If it is running, pause the slideshow till external file is exit.

It's partially possible, I think. Thanks for this idea.

  10. Mainly I agree with Casey.

Only I would like to add that even 25-30 fps can be enough for smoothness transition effects (I've seen recently exactly similar effects in "A Very Merry Pooh Year" cartoon film). Also encoder to AVI works faster, because we have a lot of static frames between transition effects. So we're reaching high quality at very small size of AVI file (with MPEG-4 codec).

p.s. I'm not sure that video output will be added in the next version 4.10. Probably it takes a couple of months.

  11. It possible to write AVI file using *any* installed video codec (or uncompressed AVI). MPEG-4, DivX, Intel Indeo and etc.

All they can be easily converted into VCD (MPEG1) or DVD (MPEG2) formats using CD burning software (e.g. NERO).

p.s. yes, our own MPEG1/2 encoder may vastly increase cost of PicturesToExe and program will has size 3-4 Mb. Because of this we would like to use AVI format.

  12. To ccmanz

    1) Thanks, I'll improve this moment!

    2) I just checked with transparent GIFs and they look as expected under Windows 95. We use own code of showing of transparent images which works similar under all versions of Windows. As, for example, transition effects look exactly equally under any Windows.

    To abc

    1) Yes, I plan to add resizing of images in the Vis. editor.

    2) Also thanks for your first idea. Probably it can be added in the next versions.

  13. We're experimenting with AVI output using necessary video codec which is installed in Windows. And there are interesting results. And synchronization will work very well on every computer, because it renders each frame step by step to produce qualified 25 or 30 fps AVI video. But it's a first part of this exploration yet.

  14. Dear Truelight!

We have suggested three variants and 75% voted for the second one (3-5 categories, which I've described in detail). Now I've added first promissed category from this list to see result during one-two weeks and add other ones. Only 8% were voted for a number of categories which is more than 5.

Please feel free to let me know your opinion about this!

    With best regards,
