  1. Hi Dave Thanks for the info, got a lot on with M at the moment but will give it a try ASAP. There's no rush, not intending to go on a photo safari just yet. Thanks Rosy.
  2. I bought this camera back in December 2023. I'm sorry to say apart from a brief play around with it, it is virtually unused. I bought the camera from Nikon UK after sending back one from Amazon which was obviously an earlier version. This morning I received an email from Nikon to say my camera firmware MAY need upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7. I clicked on the download button & received instructions on how to download it & to click the download tab. That lead me to the attached screenshot & somewhat confused. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to proceed please. Rosy.
  3. Don't see the problem starting a project with all files in 1 folder, it's been sacresant since I started using PTE in 2007. The way some have described how they file is just bad house keeping IMO. Rosy.
  4. Update. Since my last post I have viewed YouTube videos showing how to connect an Android Smart Phone & Tablet to your DSLR camera. Rosy.
  5. Hi Brian Yes it would. But with the project we're in the middle of, a small simple compact sreen is essential. We'll be more expressive when all the components of the project are available. Just had an Amazon email the last items will be delivered this afternoon. Thanks for the suggestion. Rosy.
  6. Hi Mark Looks like I might have jumped the gun. I've ordered a 10inch bog standard monitor from Amazon. I was hanging fire trying to find one that had no bad feedback. The one I've ordered has no feedback as it's new on Amazon, fingers crossed & I have 30 days to send it back if it doesn't do the business. Thanks for the info, yours is available on UK Amazon. The link to the cheap & cheerful one I've ordered is Monitor . Thanks again Rosy.
  7. Hi Digartal. 6inch may be OK, I want to have the camera outside the car with me sat inside viewing a monitor via an HDMI cable. The monitor would need to be 12v DC. What model is yours, do you have a link for it. Rosy
  8. We are getting together some hardware for a project, one of the items we need is a 12inch 12volt DC HDMI monitor, preferably sub £100. The ones listed on Amazon are a minefield with lots of bad feedback. Has anyone used such an item & had reasonable service from it. Rosy.
  9. Finally unpacked the beast from the east Mk2. The charger was a 2 piece affair as the original, but this time the pieces clipped together. But, you still have to charge the battery in the camera if you want to use what Nikon supply. I didn't, I used the separate non Nikon charger on the new battery, which took about an hour to get to 100%. I used the spare battery I'd bought for the Mk1 to set up the camera with the date & time etc, then my preferred settings. All vey straight forward. Then I paired the remote control from the Mk1 buy & gave the functions a try. So now I can mount the camera on a stand alone tripod, take pics & video, zoom in & out & 2 other funnctions such as exposure compensation, which I haven't decided on yet. Again, all very straight forward & within my mental capacity. Only snag I found was the manual for the remote, it was a multi language single sheet with print I'd need a magnifying glass to read. So I downloaded a PDF version & used that, which was better but not perfect. Packed everything away in my carry all, just need some decent weather to try it outside. Oh, one other thing the hot shoe cover, spent about 10 minutes trying to fit it & gave up, maybe they sent the wrong one? Rosy. ML-L7UMNSG_JP(Z5_DL)01 remote.pdf
  10. Hi Tom That's interesting. Could be because of the volatility of lithium batteries? They would be partially protected inside a camera & maybe less likely to combust. Whereas they are usually exposed in a charger. I will still be using the charger I got for the P1000. Although I read a lot of the action cameras are prone to overheating, whether it's the battery or the chip I'm not sure. I charged M's FZ82 today via my PC's USB connection with the battery inside the camera, no problem. Cheers Rosy.
  11. Finally got a reply from Nikon about the battey charger for the P1000 (Thank you for contacting Nikon technical support. Currently, the MH-29 battery charger is not available for sale on our website. An alternative solution is to charge the camera battery inside the camera via a computer. as described on page 179 Reference Manual - https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/495/COOLPIX_P1000.html If you have any additional questions or require additional assistance, I will be happy to help you. Kind regards, Not very good from the top camera company in the world? Rosy
  12. The Beast From the Far East Mk2 arrived today direct from Nikon. It was well packed & protected & the hot shoe shield was in a separate box. The picture on the Nikon box looks different & smells newer than the one I got through Amazon. Haven't unpacked the Nikon box yet, too many other things going on such as the arrival of the Manfrotto Monopod. More sooooooooon. Ah So. Rosy
  13. Been digging through our archives again & came across this show. It was created about 2008 using our original Nikon camera. It was originally shot in 4-3 aspect ratio, then 16-9 became the norm, so the images were stretched & cropped to suit. Consequently some of the vibrancy of the originals was lost, but it's still watchable on TV. Rosy. The Cathedral at Ripon
  14. Placed an order direct with Nikon for a Coolpix P1000. Their system allowed you to add a few items to go with the camera. One of them was a hot show cover, which I thought was a bit of a cheek having to buy this which is normally included. I added one for safety's sake. Rosy.
  15. Hi Tom & Rosemary I checked the Sony brige zoom, nearest to the Nikon & the Nikon still has the edge. I liked the ease I found the Nikon setting it up & the general layout of the controls. So unless something better comes along I will still be choosing the Beast From th Far East. Incidentally, Amazon are now featuring the Nikon version, not the one I bought. As I still have the filter remote & spare battery, it would be the easiest to replace. The Sony I looked at was £500 more expensive. Sony More than I want to pay as I would still want a remote, filter & spare battery. Rosy.
  16. After a couple of hours weighing up the odds, I have decided to send the camera back to Amazon. It's all boxed up waiting for UPS to collect tomorrow. So The beast from the Far East. is going West. By the time I have the refund I'll have decided what to do next. Rosy.
  17. Thanks Dave What I hadn't mentioned was there seems to be another problem, this is with the zoom lens snap back, it only works intermittently. Snap back is a facility you can use when taking a picture at maximum zoom & the object goes out of frame. You press the snap back button & the lens snaps back to a pre-determined zoom setting to allow you to see the object & re-frame it. Rosemary had the same problem with her Nikon & sent it away to get it fixed. I'm not prepared to do that. Also the snap back doesn't operate when shooting video according to the manual, which I use regularly. So at the moment there are 2 strikes against the camera. So I'll see what the supplier says, if it isn't positive, its 3 strikes & it's back to Amazon.
  18. Good morning Jill. Thanks for your interest. Having had one camera fail with an "internal charger" in the camera facility. I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. It looks like Amazon's only solution is to send it back as faulty & either get my money back or a replacement. As the replacement would come from the same source, it would probably have the same problem. Also I have bought a number of items to go with the camera such ss the protection filter, the remote control & a spare battery. The camera was £120 cheaper than any of the major retailers, which is why I bought from Amazon. Looks like the expression "there's no such thing as a free lunch" applies in this instance. If I don't get a satisfactory answer from Amazon / BORNKU I will send it back & buy one direct from Nikon & bite the bullet on the £120 additional price. Amazon Rosy.
  19. Decided to stay up & take some more pics, found one part (charger) does say Nikon, but no lights. However, Nikon supplied UK adaptor won't plug into charger without drastic action. I used my own UK /Euro plug adaptor with charger plugged in to the 2 pin euro socket & charged 2 batteries OK. See pics. Rosy.
  20. Hi Dave The charger part of the two items looks nothing like the one in the video, it doesn't say Nikon on it & there are no indicator lights. It's too late now but I'll take some more pics tomorrow & post them. I have contacted the German company who market the camera through Amazon through Amazon's messaging sercvice but have to wait a couple of days for a reply. Cheers Rosy.
  21. Is there anyone from the UK who has a Nikon Coolpix 1000. Mine came with a real mickey mouse charging arrangement. The actual charger has a Euro 2 pin plug, then there's the UK pin fitting, but no way can I fit them together unless there's a tab you have to break off. You can only see one hole for the Euro plug. Have attached a couple of pics to illustrate. Rosy.
  22. Hi Dave, You're right it was a zip file. The print is so small on my PC I just assumed it was a PDF download which is normal. Thanks again Rosy.
  23. The subject has been mentioned in other sections of the forum. It's about our new camera the Nikon Coolpix P1000. First impressions after unpacking, we certainly won't be doing much hand held photography. I-O-O this is a tripod / monopod camera. It's the heaviest camera I've owned since we bought a shoulder mounted Sony original digital video camera back in the year dot. This is just part one of this saga, the un-packing & taking record pics. The Beast From The Far East Rosy.
  24. Hi Dave The font wasn't in a zip file it was a PDF download. Had a try right clicking in settings fonts & it eventually worked, the Karate font is showing in my PC & PTE. Thanks very much Rosy.
