  1. If it's just size, then the file extension may not matter. I know that my ISP prevents me from sending files over some size. I think mine is about 8MB, but my son's is 2MB. In that case, it doesn't matter what the file extension is. A 3 MB jpeg or word document would choke my son's isp. There was a recent post here which talked about another alternative: " Subject: Sending large files From time to time, you may need to send a large file to a friend. Large files don't do well in emails and not everyone has a website from which files can be downloaded. Dropload http://www.dropload.com/ is a place where you can upload a file up to 50MB in size and then send an email to your friend. They have 48 hours to download it before it will be deleted. Thought our members might want to take advantage of this at some point! It's FREE! " I hope I'm doing this correctly. I think the topic link is http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...t=ST&f=2&t=1953 It may also NOT be a size issue, but your ISP may prevent sending .exe (as many viruses are sent that way). I think if that's the case, you could rename it to myshow.xyz or anything you wanted, and send instructions for the recipient to rename is back to myshow.exe. Don't know if any of these ideas will work, but they are things to try.
  2. Exquisite! I see things in this show and wonder "How did he do that?" But I will wait and learn more slowly than you have, I am certain. I will use this show for inspiration often. Thank you for sharing it.
  3. Chuck, Great show! I have yet to publish my first, but this is a great demonstration of how effective a show can be without lots of bells and whistles and sophistication. Most of all, the baby looks so happy and contented! Great ideas for pics and nicely done show. Congratulations!
  4. A couple of questions: Let's assume that the screen size is 1024 x 768. 1) I assume that a picture is centered by default. When I make a slide of a picture that's, say, 500 x 400, it will be centered. Is there a way to move that off-center without using objects? I can conceive of using Al's black pixel (great idea, Al ... used it already! Made a white one too, just in case ), then using the object editor to import the real picture and position it wherever I want. I wondered if there was a way to move the image itself. 2) I haven't experimented yet, so the answer may be "Just try it!" When I import/create several objects into one slide, say, 2 more pictures or a picture and text, how do they overlap? Can I control which one is on top? Is it always the "newer" one, the last one created? Thanks. On my first ever project, I have most of the pics ready to go. That wasn't all that much fun for me. Now I get to do the fun part of putting it together! Thanks for all your hints and helps. You've saved me a lot of time and trial and error!
  5. Great! I'll try it tomorrow! I'll also (re)read your excellent materials! Thanks all...

Thanks! I tried it on the couple of .p2e's I had and they work fine as exe's. Guess ya just gotta know the lingo!
  7. No problem! I was mentioning it just in case it had to do with Rodger's problem. This is the greatest forum! Everyone is SO helpful. Hope I can contribute someday instead of just "taking" all the time.

Hmmm... I have seen the .pte several times. But there were a couple of threads that talked about .p2e which I assume is different. I also have a bonus.p2e which I can't open. I'm still confused. Thanks.
  9. Me again. This is a separate topic, so I thought I'd start a new thread. I've watched PTE101, read many of the threads in this forum, and I'm VERY excited about learning how to use PTE. Does anyone have a summary of their workflow for creating a project? I don't want any of you to spend a lot of time writing yet another training tool. I was thinking of something like: 1) Do all the PS'ing of images (crop, sharpen, etc.) 2) Size them to 1024 x 768 and compress to "5" 3) Figure out an initial order 4) Name the images so that they sort in that order 5) Do a rough storyboard 6) Establish the basic project, set global fonts, identify the music file, etc. 7) Add text and other objects etc. etc. Maybe 5 should come before 1. Maybe I forgot a very important step. Don't forget to... it will save you a lot of time later. I found this great trick... Thanks. If this is a lot of work, please DO NOT do it. I learn by doing, so I'll be OK.

I've seen reference in a couple of threads to saving a file with a .p2e extension. I also downloaded a couple of "bonus" things from the utility section where Al's Adjustor is, that are this extension. When I try to open them, I am thus far unsuccessful. Are these to be renamed? Is there a convention here of which I am unaware? Just trying to learn as quickly as possible and learn from all the great help in this forum! Thanks!
  11. Don't know if this is the same problem or not, but I tried opening Al's Adjustor sheet last night and was told I had my security set too high as the macros were not "signed". I lowered the security (within Excel, not system security, from Tools -> Macro -> Security) to medium, and now it asks me every time I open it if it should enable macros. I say yes, but I still have to answer the question. I could lower the security to Low, but that is not recommended. I am using Excel 2002 and XP Home. Al, any chance of signing the macros? Don't know what that means in systems and $ terms.
  12. Igor, as one of the newer members to the forum, I can only say "Bravo!" I have not used PTE enough to appreciate it fully, but I can see the potential in how I can learn to use it. I agree with Al's comment - you are so good at making wonderful features and the helpful people on this forum take care of the questions like mine - it's a great partnership.
  13. Before I registered PTE, I had downloaded both PTE and ProShow. Now that I've paid for PTE (and glad to do it), I'm feeling OK about talking about the competition I obviously found PTE superior. One of things I wanted that ProShow offered (remember, I'm very new at this... I'm sure my "needs" will get more sophisticated) was the ability to mass change. I mentioned that earlier, as have others. Another thing was the visual interface, which you are working on with the dark table. The third feature I really liked in ProShow (in my hour or two of demo-ing) was the "real-time sync" (I don't remember what they call it and I've deleted the software). In this mode, you started the show, then held and released keys to signify beginning and end of transitions (different keys meaning different transitions), while the music ws playing. It was a visual and auditory interface, not a mathematical one. Rather than having to say "Fade for 1.5 seconds starting at 19, and then show this slide for 4 seconds" (which was possible too, by the way), I could start the music, and HEAR the music so that the sunrise picture showed just as the cymbal crash sounded. You get the idea. Maybe this isn't too important if you just play background music. Being a musician and a photographer, and having the ability to merge the two so easily, I want the music to "line up" with the visual. I certainly like the features of being able to evenly space the slides, all the tweaks and adjustments that are already there, etc. Also, I have seen in this thread some discussion of showing the wave file in the sync mode. If we will be able to hear it too, that's a major step. Food for thought. Again, I'm so new at this that I haven't "practiced" enough to know how I would like the interface to behave. Let me also say that even as is, out of the box, this is one of the best "deals" in software out there. I'm also thrilled with the friendliness and helpfulness of the forum members. I'm glad to be part of the club!
  14. Can't help you with the first part, but randomizing a list shouldn't be hard. ONE of many possible answers: 1) Put the list in Excel, one name on each row 2) In the cell next to the name, type in =RAND() 3) Copy that cell down for the whole list. This will give you a random number between 0 and 1 for each name. 4) Sort the list by column "B" (the number column). Hmmm... Is this a possible enhancement to Al's Adjustor?
  15. Haven't read the whole thread to see if someone else has mentioned it, but I'm on my first show and already I see a need to do a "mass change" of something. Say I have 50 slides, and I want 20 of them to have a different time duration. I'd like to select the 20 slides (in block or with Ctrl- clicking), then put in the time (or background, or whatever) once, not 20 times. Thanks! I have now read the entire thread. I like and would use all most of the suggestions made, but I think my favorites are: Dark Table Timeline improvements Multiple images fading at a time Running at any screen resolution
  16. Thanks Roger. Yes it did make sense. I'm not sure I communicated correctly on issue A), however. I have 50 slides in a show and want to change 20 of them to the same value. I think what you described will change all 50. What I'm hoping to do is "shift-click" or select a range of slides, but not all slides, and adjust something about each one in the selection. If I read your response correctly, after setting the global parameter, I have to tweak any exceptions one at a time. Is that true? If so, I guess I'll add that to the thread on "Improvements you'd like to see".
  17. Disclaimers: 1) I'm a newbie. 2) I've spent less than an hour total working with PTE. 3) I've seen a DaveG on this forum. I'm a DaveG too, but I go by David, so we should be set. You can also differentiate us by our knowledge of PTE! PTE looks VERY easy and VERY useful. Being one of those systems weenies, I often say "How can I..." to make my life easier (not the programmer's) For example: A.) I have a presentation of 40 slides. I the presentation default is a 4 sec delay (duration) on each slide. On slides 11-17, I want to make the delay 1.5 sec. I know how to adjust 1 slide. Is there a way to "mass update" all the slides so I don't have to change the 4 to a 1, then tab over to the ms field and type 500, on each of 7 (or 20) slides? B.) Same question for any other parameter, like the fade type, or the background color, or ... C.) Here's what I want to do: I have a picture of a fixed size. On slide 1, I want it centered. On slide 2 I want the exact same image, but moved over .5 inches (or 200 pixels, or whatever), and on the third slide the same image moved over 1 inch. So the effect is that the image is moving over on the screen. Is that possible? Can I control how much it moves? Can I place an image anywhere on the "screen" or does it always center? I guess that's enough for now. Thanks in advance for all the help. I hope to be an expert someday!
