  1. I'm having a hard time finding a relationship to anything I think of when I think of Disney!
  2. Oops! Looks like Lumenlux was a bit less long-winded than I. He posted while I was typing.
  3. Welcome to the forum, John. Point of clarification. 4.3 was just released, so you probably have 4.2 or 4.3. I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that PTE will play a sound file or a series of sound files. Most of the advice on this forum is to make one sound file if you are putting several songs together, for example. In your case, you will want to have the music track and the commentary overdubbed on it. Again, there are many ways to accomplish this, but many of the folks on this forum are okeased with Audacity, which is free. You mix the tracks in that and save it off to a single file, then reference it in the PTE show. I'm not sure of the entire list of file types that PTE will recognize, but I'm sure it will recognize .mp3, .mid, .wav, and others. I'm surprised that Cool Edit cant' save in one of those formats. I suspect that there might be some other snag, because, while I don't own it, I know Cool Edit is a substantial program. Give these suggestions a try and if you're still stuck, don't hesitate to post again!
  4. I'll just add my congratulations to the team. Shortly after I bought 4.2 I started seeing talk of new betas, etc., so this has been my first experience seeing and participating in the beta process. It has been an exciting process to watch and be a part of. Igor, you and your team are great. You have set the standard by which I will measure all other software enhancements from any vendor. Excellent work!
  5. Jeanie, That was my first reaction too... there are certain fonts that don't have a lower case, and some that the "lower case" is just a smaller version of the Upper Case. Try a font you know and use often. Or, open Word or something and try the errant font in there. Please let us know what happens. We all can learn from each other.
  6. Patty, you might also do a search in these topics for some keywords. I know I remember seeing some discussion threads about music stopping partway through. There might be an easy answer waiting out there. As I recall, many of the problems are when you try to piece together several bits of music, which doesn't sound like your problem, but there is a wealth of information in the archives! Welcome to the forum!
  7. I posted a topic right after the first 4.3 beta came out Topic which discussed having multiple copies of PTE. I indeed have several copies available and it seems to work fine. I am interested now (in anticipation of 4.3 final release) in understanding how to uninstall various copies. This subject was touched on in the above topic, but I don't understand it fully yet. Specifically: Let's say I have 4.2, 4.3b1, 4.3b6, and 4.3b12 installed. Each is in its own folder in C:\Program Files\PTE43b1, etc. I predict I will want to install 4.3 (final), and then delete the 4.3 betas. Several courses of action cross my mind: 1) Run the "Uninstall" from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In the above topic, Ken Cox suggested this will uninstall 4.2 (in my example). I don't think I want to do this. 2) In each folder (4.3b1, 4.3b6, 4.3b12) there is a program called uninstall.exe. If I run that in the 4.3b12, is it smart enought to only uninstall b12? Then I run b6's uninstall, etc.? 3) Delete the folder C:\Program Files\PTE43b1. Does that mess up the registry? I was under the impression that nowadays you never just delete the pgm folder. Note that I am NOT concerned about the downloaded zip files. They are stored elsewhere and are not part of this story. I suppose I could leave them all there. They aren't very big. But I'm not sure I want to have 27 versions of PTE on my computer. I don't mind having several for beta testing, but someday I want to clean up. Thanks in advance for the help.
  8. Personally, I'm going to wait for Igor to do his magic. He has hinted that the zoom/pan effect might be in the next release. The PTE team seems quite responsive to users' needs, and I know many have asked about this. While it's a cool effect, I don't have an immediate need for it, so I'm happy to wait. My "automated Save As", on the other hand, is something I would expect PS to do, not PTE. I just can't figure it out yet.
  9. Andrew, knowing a little more about what you hope to achieve, I'd say forget the notation software I suggested. You don't need "notes". No one else is going to play it. You don't need to write it down, from what I understand. So Notepad may be interesting in your journey, but a good sequencer like Cakewalk (I think in the newest release the name changed to Sonar, but they might be different products) will be more helpful. So read Al's recommendations again!
  10. I tried to do something like this just the other day and couldn't figure out how. What I wanted to do was run an action, and when I get to the "Save As" step, do a replace of part of the file name, so that IMG_123 (the original) was saved as test_123. Then the next time I ran it, IMG_269 would be saved as test_269. I guess this isn't exactly the same as what you were trying to do, but I searched and searched and couldn't figure out how to do it. So I would be delighted to read an answer here for your situation or mine. Either one would have worked for me. And while I chose not to do it in batch, I could have. Is the "loop" you're doing runnin in batch against many images or do you intend to "loop" iterations on one image and show incremental results? Sorry I can't help, but I'm really interesed in the answer!
  11. Andrew, I think you've asked the question of the century! A bunch of questions come to mind, like: 1) You say you've never played an instrument. Are you familiar with music (other than as listener)? Do you sing? Do you know what meter, key signature, rhythm, pitch mean? 2) Do you have ideas for "songs"? How do you express them? 3) Can you read music? Can you write music notation? I would rate myself a "pretty good musician" (not an expert, not a professional, not for hire), and my opinion is the software/hardware is the last thing on the list. You can have all the software in the world and if you don't understand the structure of chords, meter, key, etc., it won't do you much good. And "liking to listen to music" is, unfortunately, not a sufficient qualitifcation. Not to say you can't learn. I'm not trying to discourage you. But I think it will be hard for anyone offer much of an opinion as to how to proceed without knowing a bit more about you and your background. One thing I can offer is a free notation program. Check out NotePad, from http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/index.asp This is the "little brother" of Finale, one of the best notation programs out there. It's free, and it does "paly back", so you could make a few things and try some different instruments and see if you like it. If you want to continue this dialog, post again or email me. Ha! Since I've been composing this (and doing other things ) looks like Al has posted some useful information, as usual. I'm tempted to just delete this, as Al's answer is much more what you were looking for, I'm sure. But I'll post anyway.
  12. My last post was trying to address Bob's issue of uninstalling the lite version. Al mentioned how to uninstall Pro, and I went to the web site just to see if I could find any info about uninstalling the lite version. I realize Lite is superseded. But that's what Bob installed. So I suggested he write to them to see if they could help with the uninstall of Lite. I'm sure Bob wishes he had installed the Pro version, but since he didn't, I think the original intent of his post was to get help uninstalling Lite. Any luck yet Bob?
  13. I have another freebie at home (I was at work when I replied last and couldn't remember the name) which is Screen Ripper from http://www.progency.com/ It's not as flexible as Snag-It or HyperSnap, but it's free
  14. I use HyperSnap at work, from www.hyperionics.com I've used Snag-it too and both seem to be very good.
  15. Bob, I went back out to the web site and looked around under the Lite version and didn't see anything. Perhaps you could email them. Their contact info is: contact@yourwaresolutions.com according to their web site.
  16. Bob, I was out on the website last night to download the program (haven't installed it yet) and noticed in the FAQ that there was a unique way to uninstall. I think there was a menu option when you're running the program. You might check that out.
  17. Very nice show! I have seen some others from this site. This is very well done, especially considering it is a first show. I offer the following constructive (I hope) comments: 1) The "water" sound effect was rather abrupt entering and leaving. A slower fade would be more pleasant, in my opinion. The tires, on the other hand, were startling and worked well! 2) The second "song" in the medley is a recognizable tune. You may not want to market it as original. Perhaps to say "original arrangement" would be better. 3) The music could be "tightened up" in my opinion. That is, some of the individal voices (drums, lead instrument, brass) don't seem to be playing exactly at the same time. Most music programs have a feature called "quantization" which helps with this. It is clever music, but that part was a bit distracting to me. 4) There is considerable debate on "selective colorization" of images. I tend to like it. Many think it should never be used. Even with my affinity for it, I started to get a bit bored with the repetition. 5) The last 2 slides (the "credits") moved quite jerkily in transition. I didn't notice it in the other slides, so I don't think it was my CPU speed. It was a bit distracting. The photos themselves are marvelous. Nice job!
  18. James, The Fireworks show was great! You had a great vantage point and capitalized on it. I particularly liked your music choice. Very festive. Was that the Candian Brass? Thanks again for sharing.
  19. James, Just took a look at all 4 Alaska shows. WOW! Never having been, I can only imagine how much cooler it is in person! I was taken with the Perfect Storm. What kind of storm was this? The Eagles were impressive too. Thanks for sharing. Just out of curiosity, what kind of profession takes you from Alaska to the Azores? Guess I'd better go watch the fireworks!
  20. Thanks Al. I think I understand better now. I'll wait and see what magic happens in the next release. One thing I understand for sure is how eager Igor is to please. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This is the most responsive development team it has ever been my delight to work with. Eager Igor...
  21. Oops. I just re-read your topic and I think I mis-interpreted it the first time. Again, based on other topcis in this forum, I believe there is no way to extract the "original" jpegs from the .exe. There are some switches you can turn on and off to control the print screen function, and there are other pgms out there like HyperSnap that will take screen copies. That's the part I addressed earlier. Hope this helps.
  22. Here's the discussion from before... Topic This is the first time I ever put in a link like this. Hope I did it right!
  23. Al, in the Beta 11 thread you made a suggestion as noted above. Is this the same issue we talked about a few weeks ago, and I drew some "pictures" and you said that was the way your Adjustor worked? Or is this something else? I'll see if I can find the thread...
  24. Hi Dave, I'm no expert, but there are some controls in PTE that allow you to disable the print screen button (I think) and perhaps other features that discourage this activity. There are other topics in this forum that speak to this issue. I haven't concerned myself with this issue yet, but I can see if you're making your livelihood from photos where you might be. Thes sense I get from the topics I've read is that there's not a lot to worry about. While there might be a way to grab something off the screen, it probably wouldn't be worth printing. You might do a search on this forum for some key words and see what comes up. Or wait for an expert to reply to this topic. Welcome to the forum!
  25. Chris, Just took a look at the show and liked a lot! I agree with the comment about too quickly dissolving the "instructions". I really liked some of the transitions. There were some wonderful moments when the eyes seemed to stay in exactly the same place while the images changed. Very nice! There were a few sets of that were quite similar, in my opinion. Trimming them would make more room for the rest. I never would have thought of it myself, but I like Al's idea of superimposing the title on the first slide of a section. I'm going to have to try that! A few of the slides were on the screen too long, in my opinion. I know that's a very subjective thing, but that's my call. Nice show, overall! Thanks for sharing it.
