  1. Another fine, time-saving, easy-to-use tip. Thanks much! People say this from time to time, but probably not enough... This is one of the finest forums on any topic that I have ever been a part of. Thanks to all who participate and thanks to Igor for an awesome tool with great support at an incredible price!
  2. I'll add my congratulations and accolades also. Superb tutorial, and a great template that looks very easy to use. Thanks to you both!
  3. Haven't tried it yet myself but it looks quite intriguing. Thanks for the improvements!
  4. Hi Ken, Sent you a request offline. Anything you have a MUCH better start than a blank piece of paper! Thanks!
  5. As a previous reader of your tutorials, I can attest to their accuracy and well-planned layout. I'd say go back to work!
  6. Seems like I'm always a couple days late, and I have not read all the postings in this thread, but I will add my support for a great idea theDom! As Ron points out, there's no substitute for doing it yourself, but if one is in a hurry, or wants to not dive into the deep end the first day out, this seems like a great way to test the waters. I vote yes! Thanks.
  7. I also had no trouble downloading. Interesting technique! More ideas and flexibility demonstrated. Thanks for sharing!
  8. Hi Lin, My questions were not around the heirarchy but rather the order of insertion. I understand the parent-child relationship quite well and see its value. I have to admit I don't zoom the image much at all (I just forget about it). That will make it easier to navigate. Thanks.
  9. Well, this doesn't prove I'm NOT crazy, but at least I understand this part now. Makes sense. Thanks all.
  10. Great work, Dom. I remember the old (er) ripple effect. Neat to see that it can be incorporated into PTE. You guys are so far ahead of many of us! Do you do anything else? Like sleep, eat, ...? Nice job.
  11. I haven't played too much with Beta 5 yet, but I was working a bit yesterday and I perceive a difference between betas 3 & 4, and Beta 5. I might be crazy... I'm adding objects to a "base" image. If I click on the name of the base image "Base", then click the insert button, I get an image Image1 that is hierarchically "beneath" Base, that is, indented in the list. So far so good. Now I want to insert another image Image2. I don't want it to be indented from Image1, only Base. So I click again on Base, then insert, and Image2 is now indented. But the list now looks like this: Base Image2 Image1 (the indents don't show on the post, but Image2 and Image1 are indented from Base). After 4 of these, it looks like this: Base Image4 Image3 Image2 Image1 I guess it doesn't really matter (at least at my level of proficiency) but I thought in previous betas, it came out Base Image1 Image2 Image3 etc. Actually the same thing happens at the "root level": If I insert Base1, then click in the white space to de-select it (so that the next image is at the same "level", and insert Base2, they are again inverted: Base2 Base1 I could find no way to change the order (I did find the "send to back" etc.) and again I thought in previous versions it would have given the opposite result. Am I going crazy? Please tell me I'm doing something wrong. "User error" is a great answer! I'm willing to learn!
  12. Canon also has some photosticth software that I've used with good success. It's not automatic, and, technically, it's not freeware, but I've seen it bundled with many many different things (all Canon cameras, some printers - including non-canon printers - and several other softewares). While they don't "sell" it, it's probably readily available to the ambitious web-hunter.
  13. I just bought a 180 GB (not MB) USB hard drive for $99 (after rebates). The only trouble I've noticed is that it's USB powered. It came with a "Y" cable that you can use to plug into 2 USB ports and connect to the drive. They say one needs this for connecting to laptops. My (old) laptop only has one port. Also, I have a non-powered USB splitter (hub?) on my dektop, and if I use the hub, I need the Y cable. If I plug directly into the PC's USB port, a single port works fine. All this to say that while the problems do have resolutions, it makes me a bit nervous that this device right on the edge of the power requirements for USB. But 180 GB for $100 is pretty good price performance. That's a lot of slide shows!
  14. Nicely done, Ron. As someone else has mentioned, when you said "scrolling text" I envisioned the Star Wars technique. I think that would be a great addition or variation. Because I've played a little with the betas, I think I could have done what you describe without your tutorial. However, after seeing it written down, there actually are quite a few steps. For the uninitiated, this will be a good help. Thanks!
  15. I'm not sure I understand your question. If you are asking for previous versions of pte, I think they are available from the web site wnsoft.com If you are asking for shows that others have made, there are many places. Look in another forum on this site, called PTE Presentations. Many of the members have their own websites that have many shows. One I know of is Beechbrook.com. If neither of these is what you meant, please ask again!
  16. I have to agree with you... Just in my limited experience with this release, it seems very easy to overkill. I'm not criticizing Lin on this effort, or any particular show. Even in release 4, for example, if you used every possible transition effect in a slide show, I think I would be distracted by the effects and miss the pictures. Adding all the new things in Release 5 makes it even more prone to overkill, but as you have said, if used artistically, it's brilliant. Moderation in all things, I suppose...
  17. Interesting effect, Lin! After I noticed what was happening (very subtle - nice effect) I was waiting for the main image to darken, the "sun" to go behind the clouds, the sky to get grayer, etc. and then see the results of all the snow reflected on the silo, barn, etc. I don't want much! Maybe in the next release?
  18. Hi all, Just downloaded 5B4 and found a very small problem that might be my machine and not Igor's code. I have a copy of 4.4 (I never updated to 4.8) and had a copy of 5B3. I uninstalled 5B3 and installed 5B4 successfully, or so I thought. The pgm runs fine. When I went back to the desktop, the 4.4 shortcut was replaced with a PTE 5 name, and there were 3 others all saying PTE 5 on the desktop also. I tried to delete them and I got an error saying something like "Couldn't read from disk" or "couldn't find disK", with an "OK" button. I looked at the properties of the shortcut and it was completely blank except for the name. No path, target, or anything. I went to Program Files and created a shortcut to each of 4.4 and 5B4, naming them appropriately, and tried them both. Both worked fine. Then I rebooted, and all the mystery PTE5 shortcuts disappeared. Long explanation, but if it's something with the installer, I thought Igor would want to know. If I'm the only one, we can chalk it up to my system. Thanks again Igor for a great product and stellar support!
  19. Thank you, Lin, for shedding some light on this. I thought I had noticed it too, but I never posted anything to the forum to see why. I agree that this would be a nice change for Igor to make, so that when a keypoint is moved, the "zoom value" is updated or interpolated. In practice I will rarely the the keypoint right the first time, so most of them will be moved, adding to the non-linear look and feel. Thanks again for doing the research!
  20. I would be interested if you can email me a copy, or put it somewhere where I can download it. I found a few articles about Extract Tool but they are very fundamental. Thanks.
  21. Is this it? http://www.beechbrook.com/images/pte-images/PTE5-objects.jpg This one really demonstrates the independence of the objects.
  22. Thanks! Don't let me dissuade you. If you have time, continue to improve it with the things you mentioned earlier. If I think of any clever ideas, I'll let you know. 5 levels, 54 objects... this sounds dangerous!
  23. Hi Dom, I posted this in the wrong thread. Just looked at your site for the full pte project for Countdown and couldn't find it (only the exe). Are you planning to share that or is that something you want to hang on to? I like the effect. Thanks.
  24. I'm a day late and seveeral dollars short, but these look really handy. I was just playing with a few ideas and these would have come in handy. I'll have to try them soon. Thanks for doing these. I like the ideas presented above for including them in PTE (and paying you many dollars) and hereby vote for same... at least the "including in PTE" part.
  25. Just looked at your site for the full pte project for Countdown and couldn't find it (only the exe). Are you planning to share that or is that something you want to hang on to? I like the effect. Thanks.
