  1. Hi Bill,

Very good photography and the autumn colours were excellent. Loved your picture of the bicycle on the beach.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Colin

    Colin,

Thanks for your kind comments. The colors this year are particularly good so there is lots to photograph!

    Kind regards,

    Bill

  2. Bill,

Thanks very much for advising the forum members. I will again start posting my slide shows to your web site as I have noticed that the number of downloads far outweigh the number of downloads from this forum. I do realize that the posting can only remain for 30 days if not uploaded from a personal website, but that is fine.

I still have a number of slide shows to put together and will post them to your web site as the response from forum members to the slide shows uploaded recently has in my opinion been very poor and I do not mean only my slide shows.

Thank you for your efforts, I am sure it is appreciated.

    regards,

    Colin

    Colin,

I'll be waiting for your material. You certainly have some great ones !!!! smile.gif

  5. Hi Bill,

I take your point, and I guess (but don't know) that the fact that my little site has a tiny fraction of the stuff on it compared with yours, then that might make a difference in speed. I was just suggesting that if people have their own site, why not use it.

I look forward to seeing many more A/V's on your site.

    Best,

    Mikep

In my experience, hardware has more to do with transmission speeds and performance than does the amount of 'stuff' that our servers can hold. In addition, the number of 'hops' between servers from point A to point B will definitely effect transmission speeds.

In any case... I say just keep those PTE presentations coming, whomever hosts them. I know I certainly enjoy the creativity, subject matter and excellence in photography in so many of them!! The forum has some truly powerhouse members with regards to photographic skills and AV creativity, as well as knowledge in voice-over, image management with presentations, and most importantly a true willingness to share all that knowledge with the rest of us.

    All the best,

    Bill

  6. Hi Ronnie,

Downloaded your show from Mediafire without a problem. Enjoyed it much more without the frames, again great photos. Never had any problems with Mediafire except when Virgin Media stopped talking to them but now is all okay. I have my own website and my a/v's can be downloaded from the site and it is much quicker than Mediafire or Bill's site. Don't understand the technical aspects or why you should not upload your A/v's to your site and give members the URL so they can download from there.

Thanks for your tutorials, which I shall acknowledge on your web site

    Mickp

    Mickp,

When downloading presentations from Beechbrook, keep in mind that many of those shows are actually located (or linked) from servers scattered across the globe. Not just hosted on my site. Therefore actual download speeds and times can vary greatly.

And all of us know that the speed of a download is only as fast as the "slowest connection" along the way.

    Best regards,

    Bill

  7. Hi Ronnie,

Would love to watch your show but after trying to download both versions both yesterday and today from Mediafire, I haven't had any luck. Even after clicking the various "download" buttons, it never gets to the actual point of downloading.

I will have to say (and this is not only to you but others as well who use Mediafire), when I see that someone has posted a slideshow there, I typically do not even bother to try to download it as it is a PITA to do so. I guess I am wondering why folks without their own server/account capability don't just use Bill's free and always easy-to-use Beechbrook capability he so generously provides?

    Mary,

MediaFire can be a pain sometimes. I certainly agree with you on that. I decided some time ago not to accept uploads that were linked to MediaFire because very often the links are changed without any notice. And I don't allow advertising (which is on MediaFire) on my site as well.

It does provide an option for many though. But Beechbrook is also here for those that wish hosting elsewhere.

    Bill :)

  8. Lennart / Tom ~~ thank you both, very much, for your (perhaps overly generous) comments re: my slideshow 'The Grand Tour'. It was originally put together as 'a bit of a laugh' and as something of a stab at how things used to be back in 'the good old days' of mechanical slide-projectors and dusty slides. I have to admit to being just a little embarrassed that you two consider it 'THE MASTERPIECE' and 'still my favourite slideshow after many years' ~~ but I very much appreciate your comments all the same.

Bill ~~ thank you for offering to host 'The Grand Tour' on Beechbrook ~~ I have uploaded the necessary files to you today, so that others, who (may) wish to view it, may do so via the Beechbrook.com link. Thank you once again for your generosity.

    Best wishes to all,

    bjc

Direct link to The Grand Tour.

Great to see it again !!

  9. A short show, (two & a half mins, 26mb) about a friend of mine who is an ardent begonia grower. Robert will be showing his begonias at Ayr Flower Show this W/End where he has gained many medals in previous years. Robert is not only a grower but also an accomplished photographer and water colour artist.

Thanks to Bill at Beechbrook Cottage who has hosted the show and it can be seen there.

    Jim M.

Very nice tribute to Robert and his flowers. Thanks Jim.

Here's a direct link to Jim's show: Begonias.

    Bill

  10. Hi Bill

I read your help file & remembered why I stopped short of using your site, it was the fact that my email address would be displayed with any of my shows. I have a strict policy of never publicly giving out my email address, However I do have a web site with a reply page which gives me some anonymity, if that my be substituted I would re-consider.

    Regards Eric

    Yachtsman1

    Eric,

Beechbrook is not a commercial website nor do I share email addresses. Obviously someone could capture your email address and use it elsewhere. That is always a possibility. You have control over which email address you choose to post on my site. Ken's comment is correct. It is intended as a method of sharing personal comments with the presentation's author, as well as keeping some authenticity to the upload process. If you find that Beechbrook could be a suitable place to host or link your shows from, please use it. Otherwise, we'll still continue to enjoy your shows from whomever host them for you.

    Best regards,

    Bill

  11. Hi Bill

I have tried a couple of times to download to your site but from what I remember, the process is more complicated than Mediafire& I'm always one for the easy option.

    Regards Eric

    Yachtsman1

    Eric,

Sorry that you feel Beechbrook is a complicated system to use. It is really very straight forward. There are even help files (with pictures) describing each field where data can be entered. Also... I'm here anytime you need me to assist you with an issue. Simply email me and I'll come online and help you out. I've attached a copy of the help file for your review.

  12. Bill

if you downloaded it from mediafire you should have it

but i was able to get a succesful download this morn

very peaceful looking place -- great bird shots Eric

    ken

Yes Ken, you are correct. Since I downloaded the file, I would have it. But I certainly wouldn't automatically place it on my site without Eric's permission. After all, he is the one that placed it on MediaFire and not my site. It would be his decision. Anyway...you got the file, that's whats important!!

    Bill

  13. Well i cant get it

Maybe Bill will get off the beach and post it --hint hint :)

    ken

Well Ken, if Eric upoads the file to me, I'll be more than happy to host it. However he currently only has it on Mediafire and I do not support them on Beechbrook as a hosting site. Too unreliable.
