When I open an midi (using Import) and then hit the Play icon, the little black triangle moves down the music wave but I don't hear anything. This happened to the previous version and the current version. I checked all of my sound control levels and they are all set at max. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong???? I can hear mp3 and wave files but not midi. Thanks... Gary

I'm glad you brought up Audacity. When open an mp3 (using Import) or a wave file, and then hit the Play icon, the little black triangle moves down the music wave but I don't hear anything. This happened to the previous version and the current version. I checked all of my sound control levels and they are all set at max. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong???? Thanks... Gary ================ ADDED: Never mind...I meant to say 'midi', instead of 'mp3'. I rewrote it as a new post......

When I am in the Object Editor, and I want to insert an image, the inserted image covers the entire original image. I understand that I need to resize the inserted image down to a smaller image. Is there a guide as to what size I need to resize it too??? I'd like to bring in two images to be side by side, over the existing image. Any help will be appreciated.... Thanks... Gary

Ralph.... Thanks for your tip. Yes, that is another interesting way of doing it. I'll download your show and take a closer look. Al (thanks) says that Igor might just be putting what I am looking for. I hope so. I think it would be very useful. Thanks all for your ideas.... Gary

Hi Boxig, I gave it a try but it would not open the PTE slideshow. I put in the slide name...3001.jpg and it showed up in the JumpToSlide's little window but nothing happened. But for most of the people who would use my PTE slideshow would not understand the use of the JumpToSlide program...not too computer literate. At this point, I will fall back to using the PTE Button that will take you to the first of a group of images....such as "Goto Image 3001 of 3001 - 3025". That will at least help break the images down to sections. They can then just jump to any section they want. Maybe the PTE gurus will be able to build in a button to do this in the future..... Thanks for the idea.... Gary

Yes... Thanks, that is nice. But I need something more specific. Since I show the Slide Name or Number at the top of each image, I want a Button that will let me choose to particular Slide Name or Number to go to. If a slide was named "304.jpg", I want to be able to Goto that Slide Name or Number at the beginning of the show, instead of having to wait or have to click the Forward buttom 303 times. It seems that if the Slide Name or Numbers are there, there might be a way of doing this???? I could have a page showing a list of buttons saying "Goto 1 of 1-10", and one for "Goto 11 of 11-20", etc., so they could jump more easily through it. But I'd rather have the ability to jump to a specific Slide Number or Slide Name, etc. I guess it is not in the cards at this point..... Thanks for your help. Gary

Greetings, I have searched around the prograrm and the Forum but I have not found an answer either way to my question. I would like to know if there is a Goto function than will let me go to a specific image by name or number. For example, if I have 300 images, and a viewer wants to go to and see only image number 250 (in the actual .exe file, not the creation program itself), is there a way to do this??? Thanks in advance.... Gary

"Instead of using Save As have you tried Save For Web. This will give you a jpeg file with all the unnecessary info stripped out. The end result is a smaller file size of the same image quality. Steve." Hi Steve... I just tried doing your suggestion to use "Save For Web." Yes, indeed, it worked!! I tried to use the 'Save As' and unchecking the ICC and Preview blocks but that did not work. Only "Save For Web" lets me Preview the image in PTE after making adjustments in PS. In the past, when I made slide shows from scanned slides, I must have saved them as TIFFs, and then converted them to JPGs, because saving the TIFF to JPGs does not present the problem. So thanks all for helping me get through this one. Now I can save them as JPGs and bring them into PS to make any adjustments and then just save them using Save For Web. Another, strange but true experience. Thanks much... Gary

"...However, if you give the Image a different 'File Name' and save as a JPeg it should work...." Conflow, I think I followed most of what you said but I have tried saving the JPG as a different name but it still will not Preview any JPG from my Nikon scanner that I have done a Save or SaveAs in Photoshop. Thanks... Gary

bjc... I checked the images and the Image/Mode shows RGB and 8 bit. So I don't think CYMK is causing the problem. Also, when a SaveAs is done, there is no way of changing the Mode that I can see. The original JPG works, but not the 'Save'd As' version. Very strange. I am not scanning the images directly into PS because I am planning on doing about 400-500 images and will do edits/adjustments after they are all digitized. Thanks... Gary
-
Marianne... The scanner is 8 bit. The files are not big...only 300k - 800K. I have had much larger files with no problem. When I do a SaveAs in either program, the settings seem the same. Not much to choose when you do a SaveAs for a JPG. Gary

Greetings... Something strange is happening in PTE. In the Preview mode, some images will not be shown...I get the error message "Cannot open file...." I have narrowed down what is causing this but I don't know why. Each time I open an image in Adobe Photoshop CS (that has come from a slide scanned from my Nikon Coolscan LS30), and make an adjustment, or only do a 'Save As', the file then will not open during a Preview in PTE and I get the "Cannot open file" for that specific image, then it continues on. I then openned the same image in Paint Shop Pro, and did a 'Save As', and then this image openned just fine in PTE's Preview. I thought at first the image was stuck in memory so I rebooted, but that did not help. Only if I re-save it in another program other than Photoshop does it then open in PTE's Preview. The other strange thing is that those images that will not open in Preview will be shown just fine when viewing the .exe file. I also did a test of previously used images and did a 'Save As' in Photoshop of some images but they did NOT cause a problem. The ones that are giving me a problem are slides that I just scanned in using a Nikon Coolscan unit. They work fine in Preview until I bring them into Photoshop and do a 'Save As". Then the problem appears and I get the "Cannot open file..." with this image. Does anyone have any suggestions where to look to fix this? Thanks.... Gary

Hi Jean-Claude... I tried your solution. But when you re-select the first image (after selecting the first image; then Shift-Left click the last image to hightlight the range), it de-selects the entire range. However, I figured out that after you highlight the adjacent or non-adjacent range of images you want, just hold the CTRL key and then reselect the first image, it will reset the first image in the range as the first image in the Pool. You left out that the "CTRL" key as the key that does the re-setting the first image as the first image. Strange but it worked... Thanks... Gary

Haddock... I have followed your advice...and the advice in the Help menu...but it still happens. If I block 8 images, for example, and open them as a 'Picture Pool.' the images are shown in this sequence: 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. No Syp pop-up action menu appears by holding the SHIFT and right click (after the images are selected). Only the normal Windows choice of 'Select' appears to bring them into the Picture Pool window. If, after the block is pulled into the 'Picture Pool' window, then a Shift-Right Click will bring an Syp 'action pop-up window' that allows me to sort the images...but it re-sorts keeping the incorrect sequence. Do you get the images in the proper sequence? When you say this will be corrected in a new version, do you mean the way you choose the block, or the resulting incorrect sequence of the images??? Thanks... Gary
-
I do use the normal combo of Left-click, Shift, Left-click to highlight the range of images. I did not use a Right-Click. I just tried it again and the last image in the series appears first in the list. Gary...

I think I have found a quirk in the "Picture Pool" function. When I select, say, slides 6 through 12, the slide #12 shows up as the first slide. Each time I try this, selecting different groups of slides, the last slide shows up as the 1st slide and it is numbered as #1. Am I doing something wrong or is this what is actually happening??? Thanks... Gary

Greetings, I had been having problems with my MovieFactory2. Though it worked in the past, all of a sudden it was not recognizing the ".ptev" temporary file made by PTE. I think one solution given by other users was to unclick the "interlaced" choice in PTE. But this, I understand, might reduce the final quality of the DVD. Having tried everything else, I kept "interlaced" selected but I deselected the "Ulead" choice that Igor's instructions say to choose. Having done that, I then process it and get an AVI file that Ulead DOES recognize. I continued the process with ULead and made a very good looking DVD. So, for those who I see have been having the same problems that I have had, give this a try. Also, I notice that after creating the DVD, a file called "_difc.chk" is created in the same folder as the "dvd.iso" file. I don't burn directly to the DVD. I "Create a disk image file" first which gives me the "dvd.iso" file that I can use again in the future to burn more of the same slide show. But I would like to know what this "_difc.chk" file is. I don't see anyone mentioning it in their process. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks... Gary

Fred, Yes, I am following all the instructions including not clicking on the Finish button. I am using WinXP. I have made DVDs through this process using my Ulead MovieFactory2 before. It is just that all of a sudden, Ulead does not recognize the .ptev temporary file and I get "unable to open file. File format mismatch..." But I just came across a solution that I will add as a new topic. Gary

Ken... I really did do a search through the Forum and did find out that others have had this same problem. But no real solution except that the newer version should fix it. I have the latest 4.32beta. The only 'solution' that I found was from Igor, but he mentioned that it might help but it was not "the" solution because the quality would not be as good. So I am still confused what to do. It work find before. Now the program is giving me fits when I try to create the DVD. If anyone can tell me if there is a solution, I'd appreciate any help. I really tried to find a solution by searching through the Forum so much that my eyes are spinning. I will continue to search, but if anyone can tell me why this is happening, it would really help. If it worked before, why isn't it working now??? Thanks... Gary

Another slight concern: Text, that I put on the left side of an image, gets cut off when viewing the DVD on the TV. It does not get cut off when Previewing the .exe file, nor does it get cut off when doing the Video Preview. I have the Screen Options set to 85% and font at 24 Arial. When I have a vertical image, and put some text (like "Mason du Compost") in the space to the left of the image, the "Ma" gets cut off. Looks fine on the PC screen but after I burn the DVD and look at it on the TV, the first couple letters were cut off. So I have to make the corrections and re-burn another DVD after moving the text more to the right or reducing the font size. What I would like to know is this a function of my TV or what? I don't like to have to go through the burning routine to find that I have a problem that a Preview did not show up. Any suggestions??? Thanks... Gary

Greetings... I have burned several DVDs with not too many problems. Now when I try to re-create an updated video I have previously made using Ulead MovieFactory 2, I can not. I go through the process and when I get to the point of calling up my Ulead MovieFactory2 and click on Add Video to find the PTE file, it does not read that PTE video temporary file. If I change it to All Files, and click on the .ptev file, I get "File Format Mismatch." I am pretty sure that is the process I successfully followed before. But now it does not work. I just upgraded to the PTE 4.32beta version. I don't think that is the problem but I don't know. Maybe my brain is getting worn out but I can't figure out what I might be doing wrong. Any help??? Thanks... Gary EDIT: P.S. I JUST TRIED CREATING A VIDEO AFTER UNCHECKING THE "INTERLACED VIDEO" CHOICE. NOW IN ULEAD, IT SHOWS THE FILE AS AN .AVI FILE. SO MAYBE IT IS A BUG IN 4.32???

Thanks for all the replies. Good (well not "good") to hear I am not the only one... 1- Yes, I do have "show transition effect to desktop after last slide" selected. 2- Yes, I also started with a "blank" slide. I undid that and put in an actual black slide as the 1st slide. 3- Yes, I get that "blink" too at the end of the show. I downloaded, I thought, version 4.32 beta. I installed it but it still says 4.31. Should it say 4.32??? Thanks... Gary Edit.... I just d/l'd the 4.32 and it does say "4.32". Not sure what I did before. I'll see what this one does.

I was able make a video. All was working just fine. But then I went back to the program and re-did the font of some text on the last two slides. Then the program would not show these last two slides. It got stuck on the 3rd slide from the end. The music continued but the images did not show up. I went back to the timeline and they were not there. So I click on "Timed Points" and "Add..." and these 2 slides were added to the timeline. I think this may be a bug in the program??? It is like I had to force it to add these slides. But then a new problem appeared. I came across another problem. After the slide show completely ends, I get the error messages "exception EInvalidPointer in module p2e_prev.exe..." and then "exception EAcess Violation in module p2e_prrev.exe..." This happens after playing it within the program and also playing the EXE file. Any ideas? Thanks.... Gary

Al... Yes, I went into the timeline and clicked below the timeline...just trying anything...and then it worked. I did not have this problem in previous versions. I did make the DVD video and it came out really nice. But then I went back to the program and re-did the font of some text on the last two slides. Then the program would not show these last two slides. It got stuck on the 3rd slide from the end. The music continued but the images did not show up. I went back to the timeline and they were not there. So I click on "Timed Points" and "Add..." and they were added to the timeline. I think this may be a bug in the program??? After the slide show completely ends, I get the error message "exception EInvalidPointer in module p2e_prev.exe..." and then "exception EAcess Violation in module p2e_prrev.exe..." This happens after playing it within the program and playing the EXE version. Any ideas? I'll post this as a separate issue in the Forum to see if anyone has any ideas. Thanks... Gary
