  1. Peter... When they first came out, they were 'silent' slideshows. But now, many seem to have audio capabilities (speakers). I'd like to know if anyone has really been able to play a PTE created show on one of these devices...what format is the best; what works; what doesn't work; quality of images and sound... I think it would be an interesting extension to show a PTE slideshow. I am trying to produce an AVI and a MP4 and see if I can try them at stores. But I see that creating an AVI really is taking a long time. I hope they fits on one of my memory sticks! Gary ======================
  2. Greetings, I have noticed that some of the Digital Frames now say that they play 'AVI' and 'MP4' formats. So I am thinking it would be a nice present to give a family member a Digital Frame with something I created in PTE. However, there are so many out there now, testing each one would be a major project. Some say they play 'AVIs', other say 'video playback'; some are 800x480 others are 480x234, etc; some are 8", or 9" or 10", etc. Too many variable for me to comprehend. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with these digital frames and if they can recommend or give warnings about any of them for playing outputs from PTE. Thanks... Gary
  3. Ralph... I didn't get one yet but, just to let you know, there are 2 models. One is called "WDTV HD Media Player." The other one is a newer model called "WDTV Live Multimedia Player." An ad for the latter model states that it "includes LAN and New Software Features." I am also interested in the answer to your question. Gary ====================

  5. Greetings Ron and others, I have not used Camtasia, but I have come across another method of creating a tutorial or to demonstrate a problem one might be having in a program such as PTE, or any other program. I discovered a feature in Windows 7 that is called PSR (Problem Step Recorder). To activate this 'tool', in Windows 7, click on Start and type in PSR. When the program is run, a menu bar will appear that will allow you to start, stop and pause the recording of your steps. Each recorded step is a screenshot of the specific action, which is encircled in green. You can manually scroll through each screenshot or you can also play it as a slideshow, with pause, next, etc. The file that PSR creates is a .mht (mhtml document) file that is automatically saved in a Zip file and the extracted .mht file plays in IE. This is a pretty neat feature that I think we can use to help demonstrate problems we might be having in any software program or to create a simple tutorial. (All that is needed is for someone to figure out how to embed sound bites in each screenshot). I have attached a simple example of what you would get as I went through one of my PTE shows, just clicking on different menu items. Hope this helps... 6. Chrisp... Back in August, I had a similar problem. I had over 100 files that were quarantined and they had to be deleted. Most of them were PTE exe files. It took me weeks of work to remove the problem and get the PC back to normal (...thanks to Brian 'Conflow' of this Forum for his help). I think I had the 'Packed Win32.Krap.Gen' Trojan that infected my PC. The virus wouldn't even let me re-install the PTE program. I subsequently dumped my third-party firewall protection and its virus protection program (SystemSuite). I am now using the Windows firewall and BitDefender Antivirus, which seems to be much more of an 'active' protection. I feel your pain... Gary ===============================
  7. Thanks Lin and Potwnc... I appreciate the information. I will be looking into it and see what happens. Yes, my Blu-Ray player does support the AVCHD format. Super thanks... Gary ==============================================
  8. Greetings, Well, today I went out and purchased a Blu-Ray player. It is a JVC XV-BP10 (Sams Club). I then created an 'HD Video for PC and Mac' MP4 file of one of my PTE shows. This Blu-Ray player states it plays MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format discs. I burned my MP4 file onto a DVD disc. However, the Blu-Ray player does not play this MP4 file. So perhaps I have been misunderstanding something here. I was hoping the Blu-Ray player could play this format. Even though the file is MP4, does the actual DVD disc have to be 'formatted' as H.264, not just merely having the MP4 file burned onto it? Is this right? I am disappointed that my Blu-Ray will not play PTE's H.264 MP4 show. Is there a technical barrier to creating HD PTE MP4 shows that can play on a Blu-Ray player? The regular DVD's created in PTE play fine on the Blu-Ray but I was hoping to take advantage of the 'HD' output of PTE. Can this be a capability of PTE in the future or is this not possible? Seens the WD HDTV device is the lesser expensive way to go for now. Thanks... Gary ================================
  9. Greetings, I want to get a Blu-ray player that will play the PTE's created 'HD Video for PC and Mac',MP4 (H.264) video files. I see that the specs for the one I am looking at, the Samsung BDP-1600, says it will play the 'H.264' format. In the case of this output from PTE, should it play on a Blu-ray player that says it will play the H.264 format? Are this apples-to-apples format? Samsung says it will not play 'MP4s' and that MP4 and H.264 are not the same format. So I am confused. Thanks... Gary P.S. And is PTE's 'H.264' the same as 'H.264/AVC'?
  10. My apologies...I totally forgot that you have to download the 'Windows Virtual PC' for Windows 7 from the Microsoft site. Windows 7 is giving me other fits so I did not remember what I did. Well, at least, this seems to have helped narrow down the cause. of the problem. For video drivers, I think you need to go to the site for your video card maker and see what drivers are available and hopefully they will work in Windows 7. Hope that works. 11. Andrew... I am not really sure if we are talking about the same thing. If I am understanding what you did, you changed the 'compatibility' selection by going into the Properties tab of PTE6. My suggestion was to use 'Windows Virtual PC' (which you will find in Start/All Programs/Windows Virtual PC/WindowsXP Mode) where you actually install PTE6 in its 'WindowsXP Mode'. Maybe there is no difference but I would think there is. Not all versions of Windows7 have this capability. When you enter the 'WindowsXP Mode', it looks like you are in WindowsXP, and maybe you are. I am just leaning about Windows7 so maybe I am off base here, but I don't think what you tried was what I was suggesting. See if your version of Windows7 has this capability. After I installed my old backup program in the 'WindowsXP Mode', I don't even see it in Windows7's Program list. I have to get into 'WindowsXP Mode' to see it. There must be a difference???? Gary =========================
  12. nobeefstu... I am the 'Administrator' on my PC. I went back to see the Properties/Compatibility tab. As I mentioned, the items were all greyed-out. But I clicked on the "Run this program in..." and the menu opened up. So it actually will allow me to choose another mode, if needed. Interesting... There is much to learn in this Windows7. One other possibility for Severn to try. If he has the Professional or greater version (I think) of Windows7, he can try to install PTE6 in the 'WindowsXP mode' and run it from there. It would be a good test to see if that solves his problems for now. I had to install an older version of my backup software in the 'WindowsXP mode' because it is not compatible with Windows7. (But this backup program would only recognize my C: SATA drive but not my D: or E:, which are two separate physical SATA hard drives. Not sure if that is a SATA issue or Windows7 issue, but I got a new backup program that works in Windows7). Maybe PTE would run better for Severn in this 'WindowsXP mode'. Hope it helps.. Gary ===============================
  13. nobeefstu... I found my 'Compatibility' tab. Originally, I looked at the Properties of the PTE6 in the Start/Programs. The Properties tab of PTE6 did not show a Compatibility tab, as I reported. However, I also have a shortcut to PTE6 in my Microsoft Toolbar (Office 2000). I just happened to look at the Properties there and it does show the Compatibility tab. Everything is greyed out so I am not sure what this all means. I have attached an image of the tab in a Word doc. For the record, my Windows 7 is the Professional V6.1 Build 7600. Gary ============================== Compatibility Tab.doc
  14. nobeefstu... I have been following the problem that Severn has been having with his Windows7-32bit and PTE 6.0. I have not had any problems with my Windows7 and PTE 6.0. But I took a look at the Properties tab to see what it had. My Properties for PTE does not have a Compatibility tab. I looked at other programs that I have installed and some do and some don't. I wonder if the fact that Severn has the Compatibility tab and I don't might mean something. My Windows7 was an original install, not an upgrade from Vista. I wonder if this might have something to do with the problem??? Just wondering. Gary ============================
  15. Severn... I recently got a new PC with Windows 7. I just tried opening an old PTE show and moved images around in the Slide List and in the Fullscreen view. I had no problems; it worked smoothly. My setup is Windows 7 32 bit (not upgraded from Vista); a QuadCore i5-750; 4 Gb Ram; nVidia GTS 250 1 Gb. This might not help but just to let you know that I haven't seen the problems you are having. If you need me to check any other setting, let me know. Gary ===========================
  16. Peter... It seems that since Audacity has been the 'recommended' sound editor for PTE, this sub-forum would be a great place for such questions. I don't see how it would be a negative thing. Anyway, thanks for the response. You are correct. I have been blindly using the numeric keys...not even thinking of using the other keys on the main keyboard. I am using a new keyboard in my new Windows 7 PC with the new version of Audacity, so I thought it was my keyboard or Windows 7 that was not working correctly. Too many variables, I thought, but it was just me. Thanks much...Gary ==============================
  17. I am using the 1.3.9 Audacity. I have a question about the Keyboard preferences. The Keyboard Preferences show that to 'Skip to End', use the 'End' key; to 'Skip to Start' use the 'Home' key. Neither of these are working for me. Nor can I use the left and right arrow keys to move the index line (the vertical line). Is there something I have to do to get these Keyboard actions to work? Thanks... Gary
  18. I would like to suggest that the MP4 audio format be added to the music formats supported by PTE. Gary
  19. Tom... I had never heard of audio mp4 files, only video mp4 files. I'll put the request in the Suggestion Forum. Thanks... Gary ==============================
  20. Hi Brian, The Windows Media Play 12, that is in Windows7, does let you choose MP3 directly in its menu. If that is now illegal, they had better start hiring a lot more policeman. Maybe if I run into a DRM protected CD, the process will stop but I have never run into this issue. Thanks for the PM. Gary ==========================
  21. Tom... Yes, I saw The WMP12 in Windows7. But I didn't realize that the RIP menu would not appear until you actually put a CD in a drive. Once I put a CD in, the RIP menu came up. In WMP10, the RIP menu showed up without a CD in the drive. Ok...that was solved. Thanks. But I would still like to know why mp4 audio files are not a choice in PTE's music menu choice. Thanks... Gary =================
  22. Greetings, I now have a new PC with Windows7. One of the programs included is the Nero Essentials that allows me to RIP audio file from my CDs. I see that the only 2 choices in this program are to RIP the audio files to Wave or to MP4 formats. I see that PTE does not have the MP4 audio format in the possible music files formats that it recognizes. I would rather not go though another conversion step to convert them to MP3. Do I have to use a different RIP program or will PTE eventually allow the use of MP4 audio files? Thanks... Gary
  23. Peter... I have been in awe seeing what many of you guys are doing. And your Cube is AWESOME! Really shows what we can do with PTE, and, one day, maybe I will be able to do it!!! Thanks for the great piece of work. Gary ============================
  24. Greetings... I just viewed your show and it is fantastic. Really great photography combined with perfect music. Well done using PTE's brillance. Sincerely, Gary ==========================
  25. John... Just to narrow down your problem, I have just installed PTE 6.0 into Windows7, but the 32 bit version. I see no problems so far. Might be just a 64 bit problem, but others should give you some feedback. Gary ==========================
