  1. Eddie, Now when you change the file name, you automatically change the "Project Name". You no longer need a separate control to change it. A while back Igor indicated he was doing away with "Project Name". It's still called that, but no longer functions in the same way as before (i.e. as a separate "project name"). Now are you any less confused?
  2. I am neutral on this - as I have indicated, I would never have occasion to use the taskbar in full-screen mode and I imagine most of the forum members would feel the same. In the meantime, rather than go back to old betas, you could advise your clients not to change their pte file names. I run into the same problem when I put shortcuts to my own shows, so I have to try not to change any file names.
  3. Mev, Thanks so much for posting that - a lot of those images look very familiar! Thanks for your kind compliments, too. Don't tell me you did that whole trip by bike! Wow! I take my hat off to you!!! We saw some people doing it on bikes in the driving rain, on the muddiest part of the highway, and they did not look like happy campers at all! How long did it take you? I see you also took the day flight to Tuk. That's an interesting place, too.
  4. Dark Ages! Ken, the Help menu works in beta 11, the only one you really need to concern yourself with, except for historical (hysterical?) reference. Re the caption, at first it was used interchangeably for both the windowed mode window caption and the taskbar caption (one or two members would like to see the same caption for both.) However, I prefer to address each separately, as they need not be the same. A windows caption is a windows caption, and a taskbar caption is a taskbar caption. You can see the taskbar caption in full-screen mode if you press "Alt-Tab" while the show is running.
  5. Guido, Wise words as usual! I agree that now that Igor has almost wrapped up this next official release, we all should call it a "wrap" too and move on. Unless, of course, there is something more important to add in (such as EXIF sorting, for instance?), it's time to move on. However, no reason everyone's ideas can't be recorded and re-opened in the next release.
  6. Mannybr2003, What do you mean "nice guys"? Seriously, though, are your times embedded in the file name? If so, you can email me your .pte file if you like (no images or music - just the one file), and I will have a look at what I can do with the sorting in Adjustor (just in case Igor isn't able to sort on EXIF data as requested). My email address is in my "profile".
  7. Ken, It's still there. Just has a different use in the program. Now it's main use is to start things off (i.e. by suggesting a default file name which, if nothing is changed, will be used for the "caption", the default "save as" name, and the default "exe" name, all of which can now be changed following "normal windows procedures". For instance, once you save the .pte file under a new name you no longer are prompted by the initial or revised "project name" when you go to save your file next time, or to create a slide show. The Window caption still remains as the default or revised project name until you change it separately.
  8. Stu, I share your concern wholeheartedly about the "window" caption in "windowed mode" - that is and should be sacrosanct, and changeable only by the creator. No problem! But the "taskbar" caption??? - as the guy on the chain-gang said, "Give me a break!" Besides, I find a blank taskbar caption (in the case where the creator has blanked out the "window caption") just not acceptable from a design point of view, and two caption boxes, as Bill has requested, too complex, particularly for novice users. Maybe you could explain to me why this taskbar thing is so important, and then I'll go to bed and leave you guys alone. (still haven't heard from anybody else on this, so it can't be too important an issue ).
  9. Stu, I'm still confused as to what your point is here and why this is a problem. I thought you weren't worried about the behaviour of the "full-screen" mode as you just said most of your shows are in windowed mode, anyway ?? Maybe I'm still missing something. I would think your (and my) users would rather see the "exe" file name in the odd case where they had to go looking for the taskbar on a "full-screen" show, as this is the only name they would be familiar with, not having already seen the "window caption" (by definition). They wouldn't know what the "window caption" is unless you had told them somewhere else so wouldn't know what to look for. It would be interesting to know the viewpoints of some of the other members, and how often they or their customers have occasion to look for the taskbar on a full-screen show. Am I still the only one missing the point here? (it's happened before! )
  10. Stu, I'm a bit confused here on just how you would change the caption for a "windowed" show. My two examples tested gave both the window and the taskbar the caption I entered in Project Options, and this did not change when I changed the name of the show.
  11. Hi, Marlis, Welcome to the Forum! When you said you "saved the file", did you save the ".pte" file (using "file save as"), or the ".exe" file, (using "create slideshow as") or both? To retain the comments you have to save the ".pte" file as well.
  12. Bill, I don't think Igor changed any captioning features in Beta 11 - the default is still the "project" name. Edit: Except for the default case, you're right, he did make some minor changes. If I leave everything alone, and accept the default "project name", I notice that the default caption is not blank, but the same as the project name. The most significant inconsistency now, IMHO, as you pointed out, is that when one specifies "no caption", the windowed taskbar caption is blank (this I find counter-intuitive), but the full-screen taskbar caption is the same as the .exe filename, a situation I would rarely notice.
  13. Igor, You are amazing! The new betas are coming faster than we can test them!
  14. Doug, I imagine the date embedded in the file name is the same as the creation date. If so, and provided the format allows, I can sort the filenames in order of this date. "0800" will end up before "1000", anyway. If you like, when you get a chance, and if you don't get satisfaction from the new pte beta when it comes out, ship off the file to me and I'll be glad to give it a whirl.
  15. Bill, Igor posted while I busy indicating that I was thinking that Doug's problem was one of sorting on the file name, but now realized that what he wants is a sorting of date and time created, so as to retain the order as shown in the embedded date, time in the filename. I have put a feature in Adjustor which will I think will do just that (i.e. strip out the date, time from the filename, sort on it, and then put the images in that order.) But, I need Doug's file to test it out before I can release it. This may be a viable alternative if Igor is not able to design in a satisfactory date, time sort.
  16. Bill, I guess we will have to see how many out there really want a taskbar which doesn't match the ".exe". Myself, I'll go with whatever Igor decides to implement. But, I still think we should keep things simple.
  17. Oleg, No, I never did read "The Three Muskateers", but I saw the movie and it wasn't nearly as good as Olga's slide show!
  18. I, too, was led into thinking it was a filename sorting problem - however after reading Bill's earlier posting, I realize now that Adjustor won't help here as it would only sort on the overall filename. (Unless everything except the date and time could be stripped off, and then sorted.) I'm sure a macro could be written to do this, but it would take some thinking. Better for Igor to fix the date and time sorting in PTE. Edit: However, apparently this is not possible - see Igor's reply. Doug, send me your pte file, anyway, and I'll play around with it in Adjustor.
  19. Guido, What operating system?
  20. That's strange! I just downloaded it to my XP-based laptop (700 MHz), and it plays fine there too. Did you discontinue all other programs, such as browsers, email, Photoshop, etc, first, Michel? Might be an idea to download it again, too, in case something got mixed-up the first time.
  21. Hi, Barry, I watched the lakes show again, this time on a faster pc, and the music was fine, and no glitches with the images - must have been due to my slow system the first time. Sorry to scare you like this!
  22. Barry, I just watched your "lakes" show, and, like Michel, noticed 2 or 3 gaps in the music - however, the images played perfectly for me. The only time I have experienced this glitch in the music only was when the music editing process had left actual silent gaps in my music. It might be worthwhile checking your music in your music editor and looking for silent spots. Otherwise, very beautiful show, and again, great photography!
  23. Very nice show, Barry! (edit: Las Vegas, that is) Great photography, too. You must have been busy - any time left to play the slots? The show played perfectly on my system (400-MHz Celeron, Win 2000).
  24. Hi, Bill, And visual artists too - maybe we'll be famous too someday?? Re the taskbar / window caption issue, I don't quite see it the way you described. I still feel that the .exe file name is the one for the taskbar, and this way Igor doesn't have to add another edit box. I think another edit box would complicate things for novices, particularly, more than departing from the Windoze "norm", if you can call it that. (Excel isn't the only case where you get ambiguity, by the way.) And, for the windows caption, I still feel that this should be changeable by the creator, if he or she wishes - otherwise, best let it default to the slide show name. I can see the ability to eliminate the windows caption completely being used more than changing it to some other name. "KISS" is the best way to go in this, for both novices and advanced users as well.
  25. Doug, In the meantime you may be able to use "Adjustor" to load in the image filenames and then do a simple "data / sort" on the image filename column. Then if you "transfer", "save", "rename", and re-submit the new file to PTE, the images should be in the correct order. You would then have to adjust the timing, etc., to suit the new order. I haven't tried this on name/date combinations, so if you think it would help, you can send me your PTE file (without images or music) and I can test it out for you to see if it works for the filenames you are using. If you do use it, make sure you sort only column B (filenames), starting with cell B2.
