  1. Excellent news, Igor and team!

I'm constantly impressed by the speed at which you reply and respond to problems, and it is very pleasing to see that you react just as quickly to customer suggestions for later versions. It puts a lot of confidence in the future of P2E.

  2. Hi Andrew.

My view would be to forget it!

Far too many things in this life are spoiled by over-formalisation, and trying to be measurable or answerable to standards.

Let's just enjoy each others efforts in a casual way - make comments and offer your personal advice by all means, but avoid pinning them on to a measuring stick. That's not what this forum is all about.

    Regards.

  3. I think that there have been too many comments in the forums from people who don't have the necessary facts to hand, about when the next release is likely to be. These 'guestimates' are no use to anyone who needs to plan ahead, especially since so many of them have been way off the mark.

I am a firm supporter of the waiting game if it means a better product, (which I'm sure it will), but I do feel that it would be really helpful if Igor and team can give us an update on what their current targets are in terms of release dates. I'm sure everyone understands when certain dates are not met - things happen - that's life, but at least it would be helpful to some of us.

  4. Hi Lin

I was browsing through links in the forum, and have just been admiring your new Plasma screen.

I wish that I could afford some of this new-fangled technology - instead I've got to make do with a few bits of wood to display my pictures.

You'll see what I mean from the attachment.

I apologise for the pauses in the display.

It's because I have to feed a picture in from one side, come round the front to view it, then run round the back of the wall to collect it from the other side - but it sure does keep me fit!!

    frame_and_spot.zip

    Regards.

  5. Ray,

I too opted out of the professional rat-race after 37 years in the same sector. Once you find your balance in your new environment, it will become a great life, and, you, like me, will have the time to wait!

I think that one of the problems is that Igor and team are too helpful at times! Many of the run-of-the-mill software houses don't issue target release dates for product updates - they just suddenly appear. When an indication of a possible release date is offered, there will always be someone ready to complain if it doesn't materialise - that's life!

However, I'm content to wait, knowing that when something does appear, it will have been well worth waiting for.

  6. Lin

Thanks for the very detailed response. That helps.

    Ken

Thanks also, for your quick and useful reply.

"now how are those users that don't have internet access going to read any of this?"

That's my very point! They aren't going to be able to read any of this, so having bought the package, where are they going to get their help and support from? That's why a detailed built-in Help file for PTE HAS to be a necessity at some point, when time allows.

  7. Sorry Ken

I too did not realise I could remove posts!

If I may just refer back to one aspect of my comment :

" If a newcomer wants to know what the 'P' button next to the 'Customise Slide' button is for, how do they find out? A thread like this would not give a quick answer."

    ........and your reply :

"the tutorial section is not intended to do that -- they start a thread and ask which they have done many times in the past ".

I was trying to reiterate a previous observation, that this forum, no matter how good (and it is very good), even with a possible collection of tutorials, will still not remove the need for a more detailed built-in help file.

Re. your answer that they create a thread: how can someone create a thread if they do not have internet access?? These are probably the users with the greatest frustrations!

    PS :

What DOES the 'P' button do?!

  8. Whoa! Steady on, everybody!

I think everyone needs a little patience and understanding on this one.

Comments previously made by people like Ron, who say that for the price of the package, producing a manual for an ever-changing program is unreasonable, are spot-on. It is unreasonable.

Equally, it is very frustrating for a newcomer not to have help at their fingertips when they are trying out a new package. I know that the forum is brilliant and full of helpful people who generously devote their time to solving problems for others, but it is constantly overlooked that you may not have access to the internet at the time that you have the problem, and therefore cannot call on the forum to help you.

I made the point some time ago that all it needs is a more detailed 'Help' file built into PTE. Since then, this has been confirmed by Igor, and he said that it is on his 'to-do' list when he has the time!

So, as I say, let's all just be patient and be thankful for what we have got already.

  9. One other point - I don't know if anyone can help me out on this one.

I have Ulead Videostudio 10, and that imports avis produced with PTE using the PTE codec without any problem.

I also use Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus (Version 10.7), but this will not recognise avis produced with PTE, even though PTE has a tickbox for Pinnacle Studio.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  10. Hi Al,

I have also found that the ratio size I choose in the burning process doesn't seem to have much effect on the end result.

I don't have much knowledge on different codecs, and am interested in your point that different codecs do affect the quality, so is there anyone out there who can offer any advice on which codecs might be the best choice?

  11. Igor and team,

I continue to be impressed by your speed of response to comments and ideas, and by your positive replies to user requests. Not many support teams can claim to be as supportive as that!

Keep up the good work on what is already an excellent product, and which sounds as though it is going to get even better.

  12. Al, I'm sorry that you seem to have taken some of the comments in this thread a little personally, because I doubt that anyone can deny that you offer as much help and support as anyone, and on a regular basis.

In connection with other observations, I still think that it is essential to have a much more detailed Help file within PTE, but there was never any suggestion to aim for the detail of an Adobe file! That would be futile in aiming to help the beginner, and totally unnecessary. No, just an outline of each function is all that is needed.

The idea of incorporating links from a Help file to useful sites etc is maybe OK as an extra, but I go back to my previous point - you want help to be at hand when you are actually using PTE, and at that particular time you may not be on-line, and therefore not have access to that kind of help.

Also, creating a Help file at this moment in time is also a non-starter - you just don't waste time on it at a beta stage.

  13. This is provoking a lot of discussion, with strong views at both extremes!

Those of you who have been around a long time and have seen the program develop and know it like the back of your hand don't want a manual, while newcomers do tend to get started OK, but find the second stage of learning quite slow.

For a beginner, what are the effects of the tick boxes Main page, Transparent to selection, Perspective correction for zoom all about? What is the difference between the 3 options in Mode? The idea of trawling through the forum when you are a beginner in the middle of trying to produce a new work of art is not really an option - you want some guidance at your fingertips.

I think the answer here is a compromise. The Help option within PTE surely is the best option, although I realise that at the moment there are other priorities for Igor and his colleagues. At the moment it is hardly even a skeleton Help system. It needs a short paragraph summary of each option on each screen display, to explain the basic function, no more - just enough to allow the beginner to pursue it and investigate that option.

  14. Thanks Ken - that obviously makes sense.

    And now............an apology.

I've just got my new laptop - installed the relevant software (making sure it was the latest version 4, ie 4.48) - and it all works with Ulead!!!!!!!!

So sorry for wasting your time.

I'm still puzzled as to what the problem is on my desktop - can only think that something has been corrupted at some stage to cause Ulead not to recognise the file.
