  1. My desk top computer has a Matrox G400 dual head card and does not seem to like V5. beta 10. I can construct in the time line and customise synchro windows and create an exe file which plays on my lap top. But it will not preview as a full screen show on the desk top computer. I guess the graphics card is not man enough so any suggestion for a replacement would be appreciated.

  3. Mike,

The V5 Beta only has two effects enabled (Circle and Fade) are you trying to use other effects? Or did I miss what you are calling effects? What type of music file are you using in the Beta test? Does it work in version 4.x of PTE?

Please advise and I'm sure someone can assist further.

    Regards,

    Fred

    Hi Fred

Yes it works in v4. In the effects screen I deleted them all using the box in the top right corner and then just ticked the fade box. As I say it was fine in the timeline window but if I played it from the preview button (not the one in the timeline window) it reverted to the default of circle and fade.

  4. Hi verybody playing with V5

A problem. In the timeline window all is well but when played as a preview the piece reverts to the default settings of v5 rather than those I set up in the effects window and I get no sound track. Igors demo runs fine so I do not think my machine is lacking in power or maybe it is?

I may just be doing something stupid!

  5. Just to report that Igor's demo of v5 runs well on a HP Pavillion dv5094EA Lap top with just a hint (no more of a stutter) the graphics on that machine are driven by a ATI MobilityRadeon Xpress 200 series card. However on my desk top using a Matrox Millenium G400 AGP (twin monitor) it does not want to run at all and indeed locks up the whole system. Just thought you would like to know!

  6. I have tried to load the demos of v5 as I am anxious to see what it has to offer. However after unzipping and then on clicking the exe file my computer locks up and the only way out is the control Alt Delete routine. Has anybody else had this problem?

  7. That's not the worst of it. Most have probably settled on a 1024x768 laptop feeding a 1024x768 projector. With most of the computer industry (including laptops) transitioning to to wide-screen 16:9 formats we are going to have to rethink our setups. As before, having a projector that matches your laptop screen resolution makes life very easy.

Every now and again I will supply the A/V equipment and someone else will bring the laptop containing the show. More often then not they show up with the latest wide-screen WUXGA+ gizmo and then we have fits trying to get it to look decent on the big screen.

I for one am not necessarily looking forward to "going wide". :-)

This is an interesting point. I have just switched to a wide screen lap top and found it necessary to resize the lap top screen resolution to 1024 x 768. Even then I have a problem with a sideways pan using the push effect. Whereas on my old square lap top the pan worked without any visible seam now I get a big black bar between the two frames. Hey ho latest is not always the best.

  8. Mike,

Ha....to answer your first question BOTH. April's the name and happens to be the month:) And yes...I was born in April and that's how I got my name. :P

Okay....I am playing it from the same computer....just testing it as you mentioned. Now, I don't know if I follow what you mean by "paste". What I did was find the Exe file from my hard drive, copy it to the CD drive and burn it. Are you saying that when I highlight the file I should see if there is an option to paste it and not copy it?? SOrry if this is a super dumb question...I just don't get it. Thank you so much for your time in responding..because I was starting to give up!!!! HOpe to hear from you soon and see if you can help me through this. Sincerely, April

    Hi April

When you make the EXE file from PTE you have the choice of keeping it just on your Hard Drive or making a CD which should play on any other computer without the need for any additional software. If you try to run directly from the CD it can sometimes cause problems due to the speed of reading the data as has been mentioned previously. It you run it from your hard drive and it is ok then be happy with that. The sync problem may only arise if you take the CD to another machine. What you have to do in that case is make a new file on the Hard Drive of that computer and transfer the data from the CD into that new file. I suggest you find a friendly neighbour and put it to the test.

  9. Hi Mike

Check with the authors how they added the music. If they used a .wma file, or used Windows Media Player to encode an MP3 file then the problem could be the copyright protection encoded with the file. That would explain why it plays back perfectly on their own system but not on yours. Worth a try anyway!

As a rule of thumb its best to steer well clear of Media Player and use a third-party product like Audio Grabber instead.

Thanks Ian. I will pass on your comments to our expert. Lookforward to seeing you on the 23rd at Wokingham

  10. Hi there,

I will first say I'm sorry if this is not the proper palce to post this as I am new to this forum. I just bought Pic2 and have made two slideshows. Both slideshow I spent HOURS sync'ing them to the music. I know there is probably a WAY faster easier way....but I'm new and it took me forever to do it manually. Anyway, after I previewed and it was perfefct I hit the create button and saved it onto my hard drive. When I run it from file on my hard drive.....it's perfect. So I then burned that file to a CD and that's where the problem is. Thank goodness I check after burning just the first one. The sync of the music with the slides are now off by several frames. This has happened both times with both slideshows. What am I doing wrong?? It's so frustrating that after all that time I spend on them...it was like a waste. I really hope someone can help me out here cuz I'm puling my hair out, crying and ready to delete the program entirely! Thanks in advance. April

Hi April (Is that your name or just the Month)?

Tell me are you running the CD on another computer or testing it on the originating machine but running from the cd. We find that most times it is best to paste the cd's content to a new file on the hard drive and run the sequence from there. The reason being that the hard drive can be read more quickly than the cd drive. If you are running it on a different computer then if the specification is much different from the one you constructed the sequence on then it can happen that it will go out of sync.

Whatever you do don't give up.

    Mike

  11. When you say the music stopped do you mean it stopped midway or the misic played the full length but ended before your images did.

If it is the second option, it sounds like you put together an auto slide show and did not use the time line.

    Barry

    Barry.

No the music just stopped. The authors tell me that it should have run to the end of the sequence and indeed did so on their kit.

    Mike

  12. Mike

you dont say whether you are running off the cd or whether you have copied and pasted to the HD

i believe running from the cd does not play proper

    please qualify

    ken

    Hi Ken

Yes we were running from the Hard disk and had the anti virus turned off.

  13. Has anybody had experience of the latest Lap Tops. I am not a tecnical person but have the use of an Acer Ferrari which I understand is a 64 bit machine. Last night running a series of sequencies the pictures ran perfectly but the sound track stopped some 3/4 minutes into each sequence and remained silent through to the end. One of the audience wondered if it was anthing to do with the fact that PTE is designed for 32 bit systems not 64 and that the lap top was stumbling over all the recalculating it was having to do.

  14. Thanks Ken

Having looked at the sites you mention I think I will leave this one to somebody more capable than me. Fiddling with the Registry fills me with fear. Luckily I have somebody who does not mind, so next time he's around I have a job for him.

  15. This is not really a PTE issue but somebody out there may know the answer.

Have just changed my Lap Top which I use when showing my AV's. The new one is wireless enabled and state of the art or so I am told by the retailer. However it seems to be blessed with numerous pop ups giving me all sorts of helpful messages like 'it has found a wireless network do I wish to connect' which in normal circumstances is fine but in the middle of a show is B....y annoying. Does anybody know of a way to comit these to a don't go near my desk top scenario?

  16. Mike

i seem to remember he posted at CONTAXMAN'S SITE

    http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....wtopic=3870&hl=

    PTE Timeline Guide

    - for PTE 4.44 or later

    (right-click the link

    choose "Save Target As")

NB this file is 3.6 Mb so you will need to be patient!

    KEN

Thanks Ken The Bishopsthorpe site is a mine of information and and excellent start point for any user of PTE

  17. Hi All

A colleague who also uses PTE has posed this one to me and I cannot reslove it so here goes.

When he attempts to run a Preview he gets this message.'You should disable personalised music of slides to activate sync by music'

In the Sync window he has the Customise Sync radio buttion active and his sequence runs perfectly in the that window so he cannot understand why this happens.

In attempting to solve the problem he has discovered that if he selects the 'Not Sync radio button ' it will run in Preview but with the music soundtrack from the beginning not coming in at the third slide as he intends.

    Any bright ideas?

  18. I am trying to sync slides to the exact length of a piece of music. I have checked the Sync slide show to music duration in the main window. I have also tried checking the Customise sync and the Permit the control of show box but the slides just will not adjust to the length of the music. I guess I am missing something fundamental so help would be appreciated.

  19. Hi

Close the timeline, right click on the slide where you want to start preview from.

then left click on "start preview from current slide" you will also see a short cut,

    best of luck.

    Dave :)

Many thanks Dave. What a boon the forum is. Happy New Year

    Mike

  20. I guess this has been asked many times before but I am a realatively new boy to PTE. Is there anyway to play a full screen preview from a pre determined point. I know it can be done in the sync window but need to see a larger image for a tricky bit of dissolving.

  21. Hi Mike

I use dual monitors and have no problem adding floating menus e.g. timeline in PTE onto the other screen.

    dual-monitor-tiny.jpg

I have placed some info here on the www.digital-av.co.uk web site.

    Hope this helps Mike.

Also now have the RPS distinctions dates for 2006 added to the RPS AV Group site

see the bottom of the distinctions page here.

Please pass this on to other members of your group if they are interested.

They need to contact Carol Agar at RPS HQ in Bath first.

Non-members can try for distinctions & join if /when they are successful !

Thanks Maureen Will Do. As Al has mentioned I can drag onto another monitor but cannot work on the main window without closing the Sync window ------- Pity.

    MIke

you could tick the box to show comments while building the show and when all complete uncheck it

    is this any help?

    ken

Thanks Ken I will give that one a go.

Thanks Ken I will give that one a go.

Thank you Maureen for the tip about the T box which of course has done 'exactlty as it says on the tin' !!! As you can tell I am at last getting to grips with Pte but have a long way to go.
