  1. Ash Haven't a clue what that means. So, you have downloaded apr_deluxe from website, you go to the file on your computer, double click it and you get that error message? Is that right. David
  2. Just a thought, because I haven't got it in any of my shows where I use that effect. Is it possible it is on the picture itself? but somehow V4 trimmed it where as V5 does not?. Is it just in that picture or any picture? David
  3. Ash Sorry I can't help much with your error message. I have successfully loaded onto a Vista machine and am running it fine. Is it possible the file has got corrupted in download. Try downloading it again? Edit: Igor just beaten me to the post. All I can say is it does run. David
  4. I have just noticed when I load a show created in version 4 into version 5 and preview the slides. The slides (not scaled down to screen size) show as though 'disable scaling of main images' (in Project Options/screen/additional options) has been ticked although the box is clear. However if you check the box and press 'set for existing slides' then uncheck it and 'set for existing slides' then all is well and slides scale to fit the screen. Just thought I would bring it to your attention. David
  5. May I add my congratulations as well in giving birth to a wonderful bouncing (animations now) piece of software. It is really fantastic and has inspired me back into A/Vs. Just made my first DVD with Video builder and really please with result. Well done Igor and all involved. David
  6. Ken Don't I know that. Just forked out for a laptop. David
  7. Ken I suppose if I did it professionally it would be different. It's just a hobby. and $90 (£45?) Is a lot for me when I have a scanner. But take your point about time and if I had the choice might consider it. David
  8. If you have 300 slides that still works out quite expensive. It's not a choice I have though because unfortunately I have no place like that here. I use a Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner that has a film and slide attachment. The results are (shall we say) acceptable to good depending on the slide, not something you would want to put in a competition. They can take slides in mounts but if they are in glass mounts you need to take them out and slide them into the film part and you can do about 5 at once. Still a long process. David
  9. Hi Freddy Just made my first show in Pte from a 35mm slideshow. This is not expert advice but I shall tell you how I did it. I copied the sound from my cassette into the computer and recorded it with Audacity turning it into an MP3 file. I have an Epson Scanner that has a film loader attached and scanned in the slides this was a long process I had nearly 160 slides and the results were varied some good some not so (found to get resonable quality? I had to remove glass mounts). If you had an SLR digital camera you can get a slide copier for it and shoot them, but I don't know what the quality is like. Perhaps another forum member may have a better idea for you here. I resized them in photoshop naming them in order 001, 002 and so on. This means they load into Pte in the correct order. The easy part and the part I enjoy is programming them in Pte clicking the 'New transition' in the timeline in sync to the music, easy. Version 5 gave me the option of being a bit creative with pan and zoom and animation which I think significantly changed the feel of the show for the better. Then you could use videobuilder to create the DVD. I tried a demo with it and the results were super better than through the AVI in the previous version 4.48. I will definately upgrade before I need to use it. Hope this has been of some help. David
  10. Ron I must admit you've made me feel guilty for not at least saying I don't understand what you mean by templates. I have been rather busy lately and just browsing the forum from time to time on the odd down time. But I have appreciated your tutorials and those of Doms and Lin's lately in understanding Pte. I am fairly new to digital and PTE and have not got many shows but the ones I have I used a folder to store my images and .pte files, latest and working versions, the Exe file and a sub folder for my sound. I have not had time yet to play around with more complex (wrong word perhaps, involved might be better?) parts of the program. Confusious say Pte especially version 5 is like an onion peel a layer and there's more underneath (deep). David
  11. Sheila I cannot run exe file from CD because of internet security software so my autorun CD won't work unless I disable this first. (sorry if I have picked up your question wrong) but it might just be worth checking. David
  12. Hi all hope you can help and advise. Reason for the following questions is looking at buying laptop, in the main to play pte 5 shows using video projector. 1. I Have seen the minimum requirements for pte 5 is there a maximum? above which it is a waste of money or worse detrimental to running shows. 2. Looking through the threads of specifications I noticed a comment that type of CPU was not as important as graphics card correct? 3. Therefore there is no real advantage in having top of the range CPU. Example a Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16Ghz over a T7200 2.0 Ghz? 4. I have been looking at a laptop directed towards the gaming market (say Rock) because it tends to have best graphics. Standard here seems to be Nvidia Geforce Go 7950 GTX 512 mb and an option would be Quadro 3500m cards that are better for Open GL based 3D applications. Would this be something the pte program (hardware acceleration) would make use of? 5. Would holding on till later in the year when direct X 10 becomes available be an idea. Again would pte use that? Understand I would like to get the best I could afford that would run pte5 shows to advantage and not get to complicated so that it causes the program trouble. Thanks David
  13. Thanks for this Ken It is something I get confused about I have just scan a show of 35mm slides in at target size 1024 x 768 with resolution 200dpi so didn't need to? or did I for small slides? If I understand what I have read in the links I didn't if only showing on screen. Answering some questions I always wanted to know but was afraid to ask. Thanks David
  14. Hi Den I'm fairly new to version 5 and the program myself so this might be the blind leading the blind? but looks like all the experts are away today. A suggestion might be to turn on hardware acceleration in Project Options, Screen, and tick the box mark hardware acceleration. I don't know what system you are using but I know I could run 4.48 shows on my old Windows ME computer that does not want to know a show done on Version 5. So the specs might be a bit higher. I have taken over shows done on 4.48 to 5 beta 15 and if anything I would say they are better. Try ticking HA. David
  15. Thanks I tried these options (never knew they existed before) but it didn't work. I can't seem to run an exe file from CD unless I disable F-Secure. I'll contact them see what they say. Thanks for trying and I've learnt something new. David
  16. Created a menu with three slides, third slide has buttons which call other shows. This worked a treat in Beta 13A (except from CD post elsewhere) The shows always finished and went back to slide 3 (buttons) Tried it with Beta 14 after shows finish they go back to slide 1???? Do you have to do something different? I Have selected 'When show ends keep last slide on screen' in both. Any Ideas? Opps! Just discovered 'loop this slide' works now. Did get an interesting effect though. Had a sniplet of music as part of the menu. Clicked the button before the music fully ended and got the final note of the music continuously repeating through show and when it returned to the menu.
  17. Ron Thanks for replying. Yes I have done all that. The fact is when I disable the security it runs pefectly from the CD. So it must be it don't like allowing exe files to run from the CD. Though There is not a problem from the Hard disk. I do at times get a message coming up saying do I really want to run this program. I will try switching the Hardware Acceleration option and see if anything different happens. But that will be a job for tomorrw tonight it's zzzzzzz David
  18. Hi Sammy new to the forum myself but been using the program for a while. It is very easy to down load at start up and easy to get up and running with a simple show. There is a vast variety tutorials around that are very good. I found one just recently on Dom's site that is very good to get you up and running but there is plenty others around. I have found this forum very useful too.
  19. New to all this posting so here goes. Just discovered PTE about 8 months ago. I have for years dabbled in conventional twin projector slide shows but this program has converted me to digital, well done Wnsoft it's brilliant. I've been playing around with version 4 and delaying going to version 5 thinking I haven't got time to learn animation at the moment, to complicated. But I down loaded Beta 13 recently and was doing animation immediately if version 4 amazed me version 5 has knocked my socks off. Just finished transfering and old 35mm slide show to digital with animation and well pleased with the result. Thanks in no small part to the help I have received from posts here anonymously as a guest and Beckham CD's. However I have taken the plunge to join in and ask a question. Hope your still with me. I have created a menu cd that would auto run four shows which worked perfectly on the hard disk but when I transfered everything to the CD it hung when playing, in fact I noticed I couldn't run any shows from my CD. Then I discovered it was my security software F-Secure 2007 that was the problem. When I disabled it there was no problem. I had hoped to send an autorun CD to my father who has just been given a computer and is still finding his way round it. But doubt I can now. Anyone any suggestions or experience? Is anyone else using F-Secure? are there settings? What's others experience with firewalls. I have looked through some past posts so I know there is an issue out there.
