  1. Hi Barry, first Trip was in 2014, and we only had a car.  As a result there where many areas we simply couldn't get to.  (BTW, the show I made with the 2014 images is better, IMHO, than this one.)

This time we got a 4x4, a Toyota RAV4, which was excellent. It allowed us to get into the interior, which is like a different world (illustrated in this 2016 show).  However; to get to some of the remote areas, we would need a 4x4 with a breather to cross the deeper rivers, maybe next time?!  I attach an iPhone video just for fun.

Thanks John, the snaps are designed to fit with the beat. I have also made a show that uses the same images to a 9 min. electronic version of Speigil im Speigel, just very slow fades.  It is amazing how such a different approach to the music and transitions creates a completely different 'feel'.

For those interested in the photography, I used a Fuji XT1 with 10-24 lens and a Fuji XT10 with a 55-200 lens.  I have been playing with On1 Photo 10 as my main post production software. I don't do any commercial work and the photography is just a hobby. For me part of the fun is playing with the images.

  2. Hi Mick,

thanks for your feedback.  I take on board your comments about it 'jumping', I'll certainly revisit it with that in mind. (It's only V1)

Mini zooms, as you can probably tell, I like them.  I try to restrain myself to just 100% to 102%.  I think they create just a small sense of movement.

  3. Everyone is different, I know folk to meticulously plan their approach, note what images they will need and then go out and take the photos.  This can be most useful when your show is telling a story with narration.

For me the music is key, it is the glue that holds it all together.  I will often come across a track, usually dramatic music from a film and I just know what images will go with it. But everyone is different!

  4. Hi folks,

I notice that some members give feedback on the shows here, whilst others give their feedback on slideshowclub. SSC has the built in facility to 'star rate' the show, which is not available here.

Maybe it doesn't matter, but I was wondering do the admins/ mods have a preference or a suggested approach we should follow?

  5. In the menu under 'Publish' there are two sections for writing an Windows Executable, one as an Exe and one as a zip. I think the same approach should be used for Mac, one for the app and one for a zip.  At the moment there is only one section for Mac, which has buttons to select zip or app.

It is only a minor point, I know, but I think this would improve the look and flow of the menu under Publish.

  6. Hi Igor, as always, I am most happy to promote PTE.

As the father of the bride, I was warned many months in advance, that I was not to spend the day with my camera.   So; as a gift to my daughter, I sought out a suitable 'professional wedding photographer' and paid for his services.  This took some time, checking out their work and the feedback they had received.  I live in Ireland and my daughter was getting married in England.  Eventually, I came up with 3 photographers and asked my daughter to choose.  To my delight, she chooses the guy I liked best.  On the day, he was superb, relaxed, confident and just did his thing in the background.

All I have done in this slideshow is put together some of Andrew's mono work, with appropriate music.  Clearly; as an experienced user of PTE, this was so easy to do.  The only hard bit was finding the right music and then syncing the music to fit the images.  The music is the glue that sticks everything together.

I have shown this slideshow to my camera club and the feedback was great.  Many members said that they thought watching someone else's wedding was bound to be boring, but the show held their interest and some even became emotional!

PTE offers, via "PUBLISH" win exe, win zip, mac app, mac zip, and HD video as mp4.  I have found that the YouTube export crops to 16:9 and I like my shows at 16:10, so I never use this option.

Please feel free to let your photographer friends see this.

  7. A cacophony of pandemonium; sights, sounds and smells, people and pollution, resulting in a sensory overload.  The poverty and rubbish are in sharp contrast to the armed guards at gated hotels, where there is not a single leaf out of place.  On the streets; the children, who seem to have nothing, are happy and clean.  It's confusing, sometimes most disturbing, but a wonderful place to visit and (for me) a once in a lifetime experience.

(Following Barry's advice, I re-visited this show that was V1 in 2015.  For some reason, it just didn't work for me.  But it now does in V2.)

Win and Mac versions are at

  8. Hi Barry, I have struggled with the music for this one.  I first used a lovely track by Karl Jenkins, but I showed it at my camera club the feedback was that the music was too European and that I should try and find some 'Thailand' music.  Easier said than done I can assure you!  I bought a CD of local music when I was over there, but none of the tracks worked.  So I went with 3 tracks of film music from the Marigold Hotel, (India I know, but Asian).  The three tracks started as 1,2,3 and then 3,1,2  and I also tried sitar music by Ravi and then track 3, but it didn't work either. So I'm back to track 2,1,3!

I think leaving it and coming back to it in a while is a good idea.  Thanks for your help.
