  1. 1. Make a right click option on any slide at any location (PTE explorer or slide list or lightbox view) to go to Windows Explorer file location with file selected.

    2. When there are missing slides/videos/music and a "missed images" dialog box pops up, provide an option to remove such files at that moment from the dialog box.

    3. Only allow one instance of a specific PTE file to be opened at once--or provide a warning asking if more than one instance is desired. Many times I have inadvertently had more than one instance of the same file open and then saved an older version over the top of a new version, losing all my work.

    4. Hot Key changes:

    • CTR+U & CTR+B are very commonly used, but stretch my fingers too far for fast work and I sometimes miss. Change to CTR+ something nearby the CTR key.
    • Add a hotkey for slidestyle

    5. Just like there is an arrow to move back and forth among slides in to O/A window, make a way to do the same thing from the slide options window.

    6. In O/A window, allow simultaneous Properties/Common/Animation changes to multiple selected objects.

    7. In O/A when adding a border, I would like to be able to click on "Width" or "Color" and "Enable border" would automatically be checked and Width/Color would be activated. There is not likely a case that I click on Width or Color and don't want something to actually happen.

    8. Add Border to a frame.

    10. CTR + Click slide opens O/A

    Thanks,

    Hi Judy,

I agree with you and support your proposal for points 1 - 2 - 6

Your points 5 - 8 I did not understand your need

Point 10, already you can open O/A by clicking on a slide : see Settings /Preferences/System/Double click in the slide list

  2. Today, the digital camcorders provided by world leader manufacturers are using h264 AVCHD and the videos are delivered under .mts or m2ts file extension.

If we want to reuse this kind of video clips inside a PTE project we have to convert them again in order not to "optimize them" as PTE said but to ease PTE work and avoid jerky effects.

The problem is that PTE converts them into an .avi file using a h263 coder whose performances are weaker than h264, and if, at the end of the PTE project we want to create an HD video, PTE will reconvert h263 into h264.

In fact to simplify we have the following process :

    h264 AVCHD=> mpeg4 ASP h263 => h264 AVC

We are cascading coding disagreements and lowering the signal/noise ratio of the video.

For editing videos, it is quite difficult to avoid this cascading process but the result could depend on the data compression used by the intermediate coder.

I promote PTE for slideshow and video editing but I still must use Adobe Premiere (CS5) for h264 AVCHD conversion into an Mpeg2 High@High profile / GOP N=3 whose quality should be better than Mpeg4 Advanced Simple@L1 profile (h263) provided by PTE converter.

Should it be possible that PTE provides a video conversion which minimizes the cascading coding noise effects even if the resulting ("optimized") video file size is bigger (less data compression) than the original one?

  3. Just a small problem by my last experience in creating HD video files with PTE 8.0.3 under Win7.

At first I had created 3 HD video clips with different file names, let say video1, video2, video3

Then after some required modifications in my project I wanted to created them back. So as usual after setting video parameters I browsed video file names and found the existing video1, I decided to overwrite it, I got the message (in french! the selected language was english) "The video file already exists do you want to overwrite it Yes or No", I clicked on Yes and eveything seemed OK, the converter ran and made is job properly

So I was expecting to find my new created video under the same name "video1" as it is usual with most of softwares but in fact it was created under a new name which was video4 very surprising and strange behaviour? That is not a very important problem but can lead to some confusion and errors.

  4. Barry,

I agree with you , that is true in most cases !

    JIll,

If I understand you correctly, I work in the same way that you described but by my experience I often need to assign a comment part to a dedicated slide. I want that comment be moved at the same time with the slide if I need to do that.

  5. Thanks Nobeefstu, but that is not the idea. When I am starting a project I would like to be able to drag and drop directly on the timeline (slide list) at once.

    Dave,

I think there is a misunderstanding, dragging multiple images on the timeline should create multiple slides exactly as it is today but dragging multiple images on the same slide (already existing on the timeline) should create multiple image objects inside the O&A list of objects. In my opinion, that will save time and ease the work!

    Best regards

    Daniel

  6. Just in order to ease the work, I think that would save time if it was possible to drag and drop several image-objects from the file list on the same slide in the "slides" mode.

As it is to day, each time we drag and drop an image from the file list it becomes a new slide on the Timeline and we have to open the O&A editor and add new images if we need more images for the slide animation.

But when we are making a project we know which animation we want for a slide and which image-objects we need for the animation so it would be nice if we could drag and drop all the images at the same time. The first drag and drop image would be the "down" image in the objects list and the last one would be the "up" image in the objects-list of the O&A editor. Obviously the AV show maker will have to go into O&A editor for making all the other possible arrangements such as parent/child etc...

  7. The new h265 codec standards have been approved by january 2013, today there are several AV editing softwares which already include the possibility to create 4K videos but as far as I know, not yet using h265. The market price for 4k/h265 video projectors are still very high but should drop in the years to come.

I think it would be a real breakthrough in AV editing softwares if next version of PTE was able to provide such possibility of 4K/h265 videos and will give guarantee for the future to AV show makers.

  8. If we consider the way one very wellknown AV editing software proceed :

    1) you must begin to define a slide duration
    2) you may build up animation with keyframe positions along the slide duration as you want
    3) if necessary you select and put transitions which are superposed to the slides but they are quite independent of them (so it is possible to adjust transition effects and duration without any impact on slide duration and animation). Alarms are indicated in case of user's error (compatibility between transition and slide duration as an example)

And so, working that way, transition effects and slide animations runs indepently and can be tuned up independently as the user want it.

Having build up a slide animation, what could help the user to save time if the slide duration should be modified :

    1) first option* : If the slide duration should be modified as a whole (for music synchronization as an example), all the keyframes should be scaled. (In such a case the transition effect is not affected except if the user decide to modify it by himself)

    2) second option** : all the keyframes remain at their time points and space is added after the last one.

    (this option )

I think that is a very convenient way for most AV show makers.

PTE works a bit differently as slide duration and transition effects are imbricated which leads, some times to times, to complicate situation for "common" PTE users.

    - The first option mentionned above * is available with V8 and should remain, in my opinion it is very usefull

    - The second option mentionned above ** does not work with V8 if you want to increase duration with an animation having its last keyframe at C point, which is a strange behaviour ! But I know some of PTE's user do not want to change it. This should lead to 2 different options.

On top of that, obviously new PTE versions should also assume compatibility with old ones ....

  9. Hi Igor, that is an important source of improvement for the future of PTE!

    1. What you expect from the timeline window in the Objects and animation editor?

    2. Displaying of keyframes for several objects on separate tracks?

    3. Editing of properties for several keyframes at once? (Pan/Zoom, Opacity, etc).

    Yes, I would appreciate

    1) to be able to display on separate tracks one or several keyframes timelines at the same time depending on the object selected ( why not a tick box associated with each object )

    2) to be able to "mask" one or several objects without having to modify their opacity (exactly like it is today in V8 with the mute track function for the audio track)

    3) That the slope of the movement would be on smooth by default

    4) To get keyframes tracks object by object, in order to get separated keyframes timelines for pan, zoom, rotation, opacity, etc...and the ability to adjust the slope of the movement at the same time (in this case, a double click on the selected object would display the keyframes tracks related to this object, as an example)

  10. Thanks to you all for your answers.

First of all I woud say to Dave, that I full agree with what mhwarner said about piracy. I just would add : nobody is complaining against the possibility to download HD video ! But there is no difference in term of copyright between the use of an exe or an HD video file! But it is far more easy to modify an HD video.

As Lin have underlined it, the purpose of this thread was not to open a discusssion on hacking process but to find a solution for PTE users who, for a reason or another have lost their .pte file or some part of their old PTE project (this can happen to anybody one day or another) and want to make an HD video.

Obviously I agree with Ken advice except that saving the .pte file is not enough, the best way is to keep a full project back up in zip.

And even doing that you are not certain to be able to reuse your old project if you had not made a copy of your fonts or converted all of your texts into png. So it is not so obvious for all PTE users.

Thanks Denis and mhwarner for the links.

I tried movavi : the first trial was not so good, the video images were flickering and not usable. The second trial was a bit better but the transitions were no longer smooth enough with visible jitter so, I think it is not a real good solution to match the PTE quality.

Peter thanks for your proposal I will send you a PM

However, I can guess, that for the future, the best technical solution is in Igor's hands.

    Best regards

  11. Several times I get this question from our club's members : how can I convert my old PTE exe files ( the .pte file does not exist any more) into HD Video files.

Perhaps I missed a step but personnaly I cannot answer correctly to this question. Does it exist an easy to use technical solution? Who can help us?

    Thanks in advance.

    Daniel

  12. Sorry Igor for being very late to answer your question, perhaps too late...but in any case, just for your information...

    Creating an AVI file

there was 3 different options available for project customization :

    1) Virtual AVI video file (which existed previously since several years)

    2) MPEG4 ASP video with AAC audio

    3) Custom video & audio codec

Personnaly I have made some experiences with all these 3 options

Option 2 could have been interesting for those who had not powerful PC or video players but it is less and less the case. Today, in most countries, the TV programs are broadcast in h264 (MPEG4 AVC).

Option 3 in my opinion is redundant with option1 and is even more difficult to use, I do not see any real interest for it as we can do the same and more with option 1.

Option 1 is interesting. I used it several times exporting AVI frames from PTE to a third party video editor ( Virtualdub, as an example) this option gives the advantages to avoid cascading video coding and to use different codecs and filters depending on our needs. Personnaly I would appreciate if this option was maintained in the future.

    Best regards

    Daniel
