  1. Now: is there another thread regarding Boot Camp Vs 'Parallels' or 'Fusion'?

The main difference is Bootcamp requires you to reboot while VMWare and parallels let you run Windows apps at the same time as Mac apps.

I use VMWare and PTE works great. Create a Mac show from PTE and if you set up shared folders, you can launch it right away on the Mac side. You can run the Windows slide show in VMware too. I've given up on a Mac PTE.

  2. No, it was before I stated to add Quicktime movies to the disks and they was PC only. His beef was that I had the audacity not to make a dedicated disk for Mac users. Unless he has come back since then and purchased on line he bought nothing, we was just a Mac Moaner. I have had this a few times

sounds like a customer you don't need and could never make happy anyway.

  3. Exactly, but I had one guy email me who took his time to tell me what a crook he felt I was. My crime was not providing my video disks in Mac format. Apparently it was my sworn duty to do so (it says it in the Apple Mac Bible I am told) and if he had his way I would have been flogged for not doing so.

Did he buy anything or is he just complaining? Did you say they were Windows only and did he buy them anyway? If so tell him he got what he ordered.

Or did you say they work on a Mac but it was just a folder of movies, no executables? That I could see where he might have been expecting more but its out of line to say youre a crook.

  4. You need to read the earlier posts or I will have to repeat the same thing I wrote above. See my post for the 1st November replying to Geoffrey

Its just that some folk get too wrapped up in the tools they are using to such a ridiculous degree. Show me a computer that will make my images better, have more impact, become sharper, stand out from the crowd and I will throw away my PC and take up with the new wonder machine. PC/Mac ? just tools to do a job and neither will make a better slide show or a better image. Lets concentrate on the end result and not how we get there.

That Mac users run Windows? That's an advantage, not lack. It's nice to be able to do both on one computer.

I know people think Windows has all the software and Macs don't and must run Windows to do anything but nothing could be further from the truth.

Sure there is Windows software that doesn't exist on Macs like PTE but there is Mac software that doesn't exist on Windows like Aperture. Some runs on both like Photoshop. Pick the tool that works the best.

  5. Well, Mac users have been buying my disks for the past 2 years since I started to include a copy of all videos in Quicktime format and slide shows in Mac format where I can. However, it is just not the same as I can produce for PC's, yet Mac users seem happy to purchase them. So, they are used to them and if autorun isn't a feature of Macs then Mac users are used to searching a disk for what they want. I guess !!!

Personally, I hate autorun and have it disabled. Sometimes I don't want to run whatever it is and just want to copy a file off the disk.

I know what you thought, you thought I was having a pop at Mac users didn't you ?

I bet you were limbering up there to defend Mac users

sorry to disappoint you, but I was just wondering what you meant. I use both and they each have benefits. I've never heard of a Mac being called not slick.

No, I only have a pop at Mac users when they whinge about the lack of this and the lack of that, but that would never happen here. :D

    Lack of what?

  6. I think the last few posts just about sum up this issue. It would take considerable effort and cost to reach a tiny proportion of the computer market that I can reach anyway if I stay with what I do now. Albeit with a less than slick product for Mac users, but then so what, Mac users are used to that

What do you mean by Mac users are used to a less than slick product?

  7. Maybe PTE mac slideshow buttons can run mac apps, something to test.

I've tried doing that and it doesn't work well. Usually it crashes on the Mac, and if you can get it to work on the Mac it wont work on the PC (but at least it gives an error and not crash). You can't have one project make both. You need to maintain two projects with different app names.

  8. Well Crossfade,

Had you bothered to read the entire context of my Posts and the Replies and not "Jump the Gun" with

your critique, you would have realised that we were discussing 'Windows Home-Premium' and its

limitations in running 32.Bit Program when it had origionally been supplied in its 64.Bit Setup.

Home Premium can run 32 bit apps just fine although drivers must be 64 bit. XP compatibility mode is not needed for this.

Concerning Programs ~I think you are confusing "64.Bit-Compatible Programs" versus "64.Bit Generic-Programs"

which are as different as chalk and cheese.

That makes no sense. 32 bit apps run on Win7 64 bit and the ones you said were 64 bit aren't.

Furthermore if you have a solution for Gary concerning 'Scanner-Drivers' to run in a 64.Bit System why not let

us know about them instead of keeping that knowledge to yourself ~ thats what Forum Membership is all about,

    helping fellow Members.....

VueScan was already mentioned. It's great and supports lots of scanners, without needing XP mode. A beta of VueScan x64 is coming in November should be even better.

  9. I had intended to reply to your post in detail but Eric/Yachtman beat me to it

and to confirm what he wrote ~ I have contacted (off-Forum) 3 Members over the

past month concerning Win-7 Home Premium and its backward compatibility to older

32.Bit Programs and what a nightmare that is!

It's not a nightmare at all. Most of the time, it works fine. What problems are you having?

These are serious problems on 2 counts, see (a) and (B) below viz:-

    a)

Over 98% of current Programs are 32.Bit and only 2% are genuine 64.Bit and of these

only Adobe-Acrobat and Flash-Player and some AntiV-Programs are available.

huh? Acrobat or Flash are 32 bit and they work fine on Win7 64bit. There is a developer preview of 64 bit Flash Player that came out a month ago, so a 64 bit Flash Player is coming soon. Photoshop has been 64 bit for a few years. There are plenty of other 64 bit apps with more of them every day.

    B)

If you buy Win-7(Home) 64.Bit it needs to be installed running in 32.Bit Mode should

you want to run 32.Bit Programs. The alternative is to install it in 64.Bit but then you

will need to install 'Virtual-PC' or 'Virtual-Box' or partition the Hard-Drive and install

Xp-Sp3 there in ~ so you will end up with a Dual-Boot PC.

    Not even close.

  10. Amen to that. Our club frequently has guest speakers on artistic or photographic subjects, and quite frequently they bring their own laptop, frequently a mac, as artistic types are wont to use. They expect to use our projector for their show, but often they do not bring a DVI to VGA adapter, so the club now has one of those to accommodate the Mac types.

Accomodate the Mac types? What if the guy showed up with a PC laptop that has only DVI output?

  11. With due respect to mac aficionados, it is unrealistic to expect a finished mac version in only six months. The current 'state of the art' PTE for Windows has been a number of years in the making and is still being developed.

6 months? Igor said they started on Mac a couple of years ago. Making Mac slide shows in Windows came out last year.

As for mac users 'representing a huge market', I can only say that alongside the Windows market the mac market is miniscule, and whereas the Windows market is open to all, Apple restricts software developers, making it harder to write for mac.

    apple does not restrict developers.

Igor has said it will happen in due course, but it seems clear that Windows development is the current priority.

Its very clear that Windows is the priority and WnSoft should come right out and say so. Ive given up waiting and I run the current version in vmware.

  12. If my office was bigger I would of considered your suggestion. I have since been building DVD presentations with Fotomagico Pro 3.5 (very good but lacks layering) and Mac's Keynote 09 which has satisfied our clients very much but I know I can do more with Wnsoft.

why not just run Windows on your mac and use PTE? Who knows when the Mac version will happen or how good it will be. I think Igor said it won't do everything the Windows version does.

  13. I have need of a basic word processor and simple spreadsheet and I am considering Open office. I have heard of this "FREE" option before and always wondered about it.

    http://www.openoffice.us.com/openoffice/free-open-office-writer-download.php?brand=openoffice.us&s=google&country=INT&c=openoffice.us_writer_alotpf_pg&k={keywords}&pk=1549-4

Does anyone here use it or have used it and can give a bit of feedback and experiences please ?

Ive tried it. Its almost as good as the real thing. Its free so give it a try and see if you like it. if you only need something basic it will probably be fine.

  14. I don't use iTunes to convert, because there is no control over audio parameters with iTunes

yes there is. Go to import options in preferences. Pick mp3 and the bitrate.

and I have found it to truncate some of my files in the past when converting as well. I already own other converters and editors (soundbooth, audition), so I have a workaround, though it really shouldn't have been necessary for me to reconvert all these old clips and regenerate the slideshows.

You shouldn't have to convert but PTE doesn't know aac yet. Igor said next version. It might be a bad mp3 file from the converters or it mght be a PTE bug. Ive had PTE play garbled audio but rebuilding fixes it.

  15. The problem all appears to be with clips that I had converted from AAC in MP4 (m4a) to MP3 using the Xilisoft audio converter, an older 2.1 version, which uses the LAME codec. If I reconvert from AAC using their latest version (which I don't own but can use a trial copy), or if I reconvert using another application (such as MusicMan for Mac OSX, which also uses LAME), I don't see this problem.

why not use iTunes to convert? Don't those other converters cost money? Try that and see if the problem goes away. Maybe its not PTE although it should not crash if the soundfile is bad.

  16. Crossfade,

That's a very interesting monitor with a comprehensive spec - it should be at that price!

It seems to be a "one-off" at the moment - no other manufacturer making that resolution in LCD TFT (?).

Apple and Dell make them that size, and the Dell is cheapest, under $1000 refurb. My computer cost more than that (core i7).

Care to share your experiences with it and reason for buying it (apart from the obvious)?

I have some friends who are still using 1024x768 who argue that they can't see the icons on larger monitors - I wonder what they would think of that

I love the space. 1600 pixels tall is great for reading files and have two pages side by side. I do a lot of page layout and there is no going back to smaller screens.

Photos on it are great. I can look at photos from my old 3 megapixel Canon G1 at 100%! Only problem is I have a 7D now so I have to shrink them again. Still, with photoshop I can see A LOT of the image.

  17. The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. The death toll of the attacks was 2,995, including the 19 hijackers. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries.

This short AV includes 200 photos of this awful event, and is work in progress. All feedback is most welcome.

    PC exe download here

The music fits, but the slides were much too fast.

  18. All my image work is done for use in AV sequences. I have no interest in printing or web-publishing. If these images were JPEGs I would use Photoshop Elements v7 to adjust the levels using the histogram, possibly lighten the shadows a little more, (remove any unwanted elements using Spot Healing Brush, Clone Stamp, etc as required), resize to the desired size, apply some Unsharp Mask and do a File Save As into the folder for the AV sequence.

What do I do using Lightroom? And how do I do it?

Can somebody point me at a good set of online tutorials or an "idiot's guide" book that will get me started along the right lines? Right now this is a totally alien workflow. There are so many options that I don't know where to begin.

You can do the same adjustments in Lightroom. They're all there in the develop module. Definitely look for training videos on line. If you watch someone do it, it's easy. Then once you're done getting the images the way you want, export them any size you want in jpeg or tiff and go to PTE. You can even put them in order in lightroom and have it add numbers to the images when exporting.

  19. Hi I tried it a year or so ago but it did not work,I am at this moment installing VMFusion and am Tearing my hair out.PTE will not accept my registration so I shall have to ask for another,My mac is just so slow running widows I think i shall give up I have not been able to use this lovely program for 3yrs since changing to a Imac even though I still purchase the updates.

I read that there is a Mac version in the pipeline :D can't wait

I did post way back on this subject but the post is no longer on here now and I am back to being a new member now

I run it in VMWare and its not slow. it needs a lot of memory though maybe thats why.

I wonder about Mac version too but where is it? Igor just announced 6.5 for PC, nothing for Mac.

  20. Hi.

I want to do a flip 3d transition, but split in half, with the left side flipping one way and the right side flipping the other way. I'm stuck on how to get two pictures side by side to animate. I'm trying to adapt the cube stuff, but flat, and it's not working very well. Any suggestions?
