  1. Guru, Congrats on your 1000th post. I see we signed up on this forum the same day... Today, I posted my 100th post? Guess I'm slow, huh? Al... I have always designated ACDsee as the program to open all of my files. It is my browser of choice and where I rotate, rename and categorize my images. Even all these years with images being shown to be corel-paint images, ACDsee still opened them when double clicked. Corel opened one. larry
  2. Okay guys, I've been up to my a$$ in snow-power outage-ice problems here and have not been able to put much time on the computer probelm, however I 'm back at the office now and I have at the very least, made the problem go away. Yes, the program COREL-PAINT has been set to associate JPGs as it's own (and for the last 10 years). That has never been the issue because I don't care what type file the programs designates it to be as long as the file behaves normally for me. For years, the JPGs have given me no problems until this problem came up. I didn't think (and still don't) think there is any rouge file on my computer. I searched, my AV program can't find one and so I still don't think that was a problem. However... Brian, you said to go in an dis-associate the JPG type from COREL... This morning I did that and of course, the JPGs are now designated simply as JPGs, not Corel jpgs. BUT, lo n behold, the pop up message no longer pops up. That surprised me. Why has this pop up not been doing this for the last 10 years? All of the settings are the same. Well I don't have to understand how this worked, all I'm concerned with is that it did and the message has stopped popping up. Brian, your push to make the association change made the difference. I just didn't think that would do it. Anyway, thanks to all of you for helping. Now we can all get back to talking and working with P2E. larry
  3. Yes, well done Barry. Can I suggest that the samples be a little bit longer? I think there is a lot of good stuff here, but sure would like to hear 30 seconds worth or so. Mayby put a vocal into the samples and allow more time. Anyway, thank you for your contributions. larry
  4. Yes, I wish it were that easy Brian, but I forgot to mention that when I posted that screenshot, but all JPG files on my computers are destined to be tagged as corel-paint type files. I have used CorelDRAW since it first came out and still do daily. I have another older program that I use for creating fake personalized magazine covers and sports trading cards automatically. It saves me hours of time daily. CorelPAINT, part of that suite, plays a big part in that scripted operation. Every file that is edited on my computer using CS2 or any other photo editor, ends up being tagged as a corel-paint file type. BTW, I never edit with anything but CS2. In spite of this, COREL-PAINT just wants to control the labeling of all file types, whether they go through COREL or not. Many image files come straight from the Camera, into CS2, then off to my lab and then go to archives. I can navigate back to that image file and find that it is now a COREL-PAINT type of image. Isn't that weird? I Never did find out why that *re-typing* of my JPGs took place... I did find that there is no way to change it, but it doesn't matter. This has never caused a problem and still doesn't. It's the same on all the other machines that has COREL programs loaded, BUT they don't have this popup problem, even when going through the network to open a JPG. Also, my AVG has been set to scan every image before it is opened and particularly, everything that is downloaded. For me, it has not had any false positives to my knowledge. I know some people have reported false positives, but I have not experienced that. That was very interesting about the SONY files from newer SONY laptop computers. Guess this is something I'm going to have to live with, or I need to switch to another computer to do my editing. Afterall, this is the only computer that has the problem. I don't want to do that for many reasons I won't bore you with here. Thanks, Larry
  5. Sorry for the delay on this reply. Have bad storm, power out, services down. Working now. Ken, thanks for the explanation on posting the message. I'm not in a mailing program or necessarily in any other program, I'm simply opening a file by opening a folder and double clicking on it. then I get this: Ah-Ha, I just discovered that this only happens with images that I open through my network! But, if I open a file on the computer that this is happening on, and I take the path directly to it, no message appears. And any file on this computer can be opened without this happening as long as I take a direct path to it. Now, when I take a path going through my network, pick this computer, navigate to the same file or files, I will get a the message above. So I've narrowed this problem down to any file that I access through my business network, BUT from THIS computer only. The other 8 computers in my network open images just fine, regardless of which computer they reside on. Only this one displays this weirdness. Thanks to all of you for the answers above. Here are answers to your posted comments: First, Norton AV has not and will never be on my computers again since I ditched it 4 years ago, ever!!! Damn program is like a spider weaving into your system never to be stopped and the worst program this side of McAfee for giving me popups, reminders and... well, you see I don't like Norton very much... Not that theres anything wrong with that... Harry, the little shield does look like a Norton shield. It also looks like the little shield on the task bar that reminds you that you have updates waiting. I use Grisoft's AVG and it's updated daily. My firewall is ZoneAlarm and it's updated daily. I just this minute finished scanning AVG with no viruses detected. My security level is no different than it has been for years. I don't think I should change that at this point. Brian, thank you for your detailed contribution. I wish I had Norton working so I could do what you have outlined... Uhh, on second thought, no, I don't think so... larry
  6. I go to open a file, I get this: I would have shown a screen shot but don't know how to display it here, so here is a description of the pop up. Title of the dialog box: OPEN FILE - SECURITY WARNING The message: Do you want to open this file? Name: xxxxxx.jpg Publisher: xxx Type: xxx From: xxx Then: two buttons, one opens the image, the other cancels. Then, in a small section at the bottom, there is a small yellow shield with an exclamation point in it and the text beside it reads: While files from the internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you trust the source, do not open this software. ("What's the risk?" link) There appears to be no way to turn this off and it's driving me nuts when I have to click okay everytime I want to open an image. It's only on this computer and it just started doing this. I looked in my AVG AV settings to see if a recent upgrade started this protective measure on it's own. Couldn't find any reference to it. Also looked in my Windows XP firewall settings. I don't use the Windows firewall, it's turned off, so nothing there should be dealing with this warning, I'm guessing. I do most all windows upgrades on all my computers when they are available and I don't allow them to be installed automatically. I always approve each one. My browser is Firefox and my email is Thunderbird, so Microsoft Explorer or Outlook shouldn't be doing anything. I know there is an upgrade to ME but I have not activated that. Anyone have an idea where this is coming from? The shield looks like the kind that pops up on the task bar whenever an update available. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry
  7. Here's the site I use. Kinda slow uploading, but my clients say downloads go quickly. http://www.sendthisfile.com/ larry
  8. Andreas, I had the same results in Photoshop CS2. A black and white image after clicking on finish. I have a busy schedule right now and couldn't give any more time to the attempt, but I'm sure it's just lack of knowledge and that with a few more minutes to spare, we'll find the right way to get the results. larry
  9. Well, that was the problem... When I turned my TV monitor on, there it was. I switched back to the primary display and things went back to normal. I don't know why this happened though, I use the TV monitor only when I'm playing a slideshow to a video tape or live straight to DVD and I always have left the properties settings the same. I never use the TV monitor otherwise. If I left it on all the time, I would have seen it right away. Oh well... guess I don't really need to know how it happened, just that it did and that's that. Thanks to all of you for chiming in and helping. larry
  10. Ken, John asked that question about having a dual display, too. I said no, but now that you've asked that too, I remember that I had forgot about my card's ability to display on the TV. I haven't used that in a week or two. Tomorrow, I'll give that a try and see if it shows up using the svhs output. My board is also the allinwonder. I'll let you know. larry
  11. I think you need open your two music pieces in an audio editing program and overlap them by fading the first piece at the end and fading into the 2nd piece, overlaping those fades. The two become one. larry
  12. Al, I've adjusted resolution, checked drivers, reinstalled the player and to no avail. Nothing changes and I have no pop up messages for any errors. I turned off all unecessary startup programs and rebooted several times. Nothing different. Ken, I have a perfectly healthy system and I've done a system restore to a week prior to the problem occuring. Chkdisk doesn't reveal anything either. The only way I know the media player exists is to play a cd and hear it, and a media player "button" appears on the taskbar below. Nothing on the right-click menu works except for the fly-away button, up and off the screen. Right now, I'm resigned to using another player, however I'm used to the workflow using MS player. Not really a big problem, but you know, there just isn't any end to the problems that PCs and software surprise you with from time to time, and without human intervention! Sometimes I just want to toss the damned thing into the trash and get out a pencil, paper and abacus, sit in a corner and grunt every 20 minutes to let the world know I'm alive. larry
  13. Cor, I tried your suggestion and after removing the player from the task list running, it did not appear on the list of processes at all. Interestingly, the player is playing music, but there is no window on screen. No way to see what's on the playlist or anything. It's just a "button" or "pad" on the task bar. I also now get a menu when doing a right click, but nothing happens when a choice is made unless I choose MOVE or SIZE and then the mouse dissappears. Pressing the ESC button brings the mouse back. At no time are there any error messages. Again, the only action that is visual is when attempting to maximize or minimize the window... As the window goes to open, the button simply goes flying up and left, right off the screen. Weird... larry
  14. Al the pte is on the way. Thanks! larry
  15. Everything went from normal to disaster without warning. Now, I cannot get Microsoft's music player to appear on screen. It appears on the task bar, but clicking or double clicking does nothing except produce a streaking button to go up and off to the right, completely off the screen. Clicking on it again, it reverses this. A right click produces no menu and there is no music or video playing while this is going on. When I bring up the task manager, it says the Media Player is running fine. The only way to shut this down is through the task manager, since the button on the task bar simply toggles something off screen to the right. I say "something" because there is simply no way to describe it. What's up? I reinstalled the player again, with no error messages, but nothing changed. This is kind of freaky! larry
  16. When syncing a show to music, the program divides all slides equally in time. But what if you want the last 2 or 3 slides to dissolve at a slower pace and perhaps use another type of transition? The program doesn't allow me to customize the transitions or the timing of those last few slides. Isn't it suppose to allow that?
  17. In this regard, the DWF forums (Digital Wedding Photographer Fourm) has been working for about a year now, using it's power of influence with a membership of thousands of professional photographers to get this implemented. Here is the story: http://www.digitalweddingforum.com/ubbthre...&page=0#1109842 Hopefully, this will help the situation... The music industry as a whole, considers the syncing of music to be of so little value, it ignores our individual requests for a solution. They just don't give a damn. In the meantime, 99% of my clients (mostly consumer-level clients) don't give a damn either... they want popular music with their slideshows. It would sure be nice to give that to them. lt
  18. Yes, that's true. but there is no time saved. It still requires dealing with the music instead of telling the program "I want 3min 24 sec length". Fast, simple. And yes, this has always been the choice. This is not really a problem, just a fantasy request. I'm sure nobody else would find this to be of much benefit, but by throwing it out there, it is possible that more PTEers might have seen a binefit and wanted it too. Oh, well.... You know, Igor does so much work to satisfy the needs of so many. I just gave it a shot. lt
  19. Actually Al, that scenario you are painting is going to be illegal for whomever should sync up the show with the soundtrack. It is still an illegal use of the music. My idea is to allow the purchasers of my slideshow to make their own choices. I only design the show for them to an exact length. I cannot be responsible for what they do with it. That let's people enjoy their show with their own music in the privacy of their home. Nobody is doing anything illegal here. If the customer should decide to make a public display and play his music with the show, I am free from doing any illegal acts. Yes, that would work Al, however it would be much faster and more efficient to simply type the timing into a blank field designed to automate the timing process instantly. Remember, in order to do what you're suggesting, you have to re-master the music and place it. For whatever amount of time that takes, it will be too much... if my idea is doable. Yes, that's true for shows that are built for some exact timing. My purpose is for folks that want me to build a nice show, make the images stay up for, say 8 seconds each, and end with a fade to black. Simple show, no exact timing required. For me, it would be a very big savings in time. For most everyone else that makes slideshows, it may not have any value at all. I know that a lot of shows, including many that are posted from sources available in this forum, do contain music that is technically illegal to use for other than private showings, and I'm not trying to be critical of that, however I am producing 15 or more shows weekly and selling them. I do not want to get in trouble with the "copy-cops" at all. As earlier stated, I have been shopped at least twice. For us here in the US, this is a Federal crime and although it is highly unlikely that anything would happen, with my luck, I could get life without parole... lt
  20. John, what you have described is just what I want to avoid. My idea was to just set the time I want the show to run, enter the transition timing to be used for all slides and save it. That requires less time than what it just took to type the sentence. I really don't want to place the client's music into my system. That means that I have to rip it, then load the songs, check the running time and do the math, then go back to the main menu and enter the total time for each slide to appear and finally, go back and remove the music. And let's say the client rips his own music, I still have to check it since many of the clients make mistakes and rip the wrong songs, or worse yet, they name them wrong. That's the very time consuming effort I'm trying to avoid. I don't think there's any way to save time as the program is currently written. OTOH, this isn't something that many users are going to jump up and down for... maybe I'm the only one on the planet that wants such a feature. If so, I wouldn't expect anyone to spend much energy making it happen just for me. Maybe Igor is paying notice to this post. I have a LOT of clients that this would please. It doesn't seem like a hard thing to provide, but I might be wrong... I'm just guessing... and wishing! lt
  21. John, could you please explain that in a little more detail. The only thing I saw on the MAIN tab was a button to Customize synchronization, which leads to the timeline, where I see the options at the top left. None of these options work. When I choose one, then go back to remove the music, the saving of the EXE brings a popup box telling me it cannot find the music. That's the end of that. Am I missing something? lt
  22. Ron, I tried making the show, then taking the music out after making the show. I removed it from the folder after saving the .pte with the song in place, then finished the .exe. It didn't work. The first slide same up and stayed there. Oh well... it was a nice idea. Guess the only way to do this is making that period of silence for an exact length. I just got an idea! I can make several "pieces of silence" of varying lengths: 40min, 20min, 10min, 5min, 2min, 1min, 40sec, 20sec, 10sec, 5sec, 1sec. When needed, I can stich them together to come up with an exact length of silence. That's faster than recording it each time you want an exact timing. lt
  23. Dom, my website is: www.tphoto.net Ron, making a silence of a certain length is not a problem, however it does add to my time in the creation of a show. Time is money... I'd like to shorten that in any way I can. I'm going to try the first suggestion later this morning. Thanks! lt
  24. Ron, are you saying that a show will time the same after I remove the music from the que? If that's the case, that's the answer right there. As long as I don't release a show with the music in it, I'm okay. I'll give that a try tomorrow when I'm at the office. Thanks for the suggestion! FYI, I have been shopped for copyright infringement twice in the last 2 years. The second time I got shopped, I was accused of using copyrighted music, however I quickly showed them it was royalty free and they went their way. Much of what I do is shown publicly. This is a way to solve that probelm... at least for me. That public showing would not be my doing. That's my reason for leaving pop music alone. Only use it for my private shows. lt
