Felix, Why not simply open the Show in the 'Main PTE Window' ~ find the "1kb Link Message" delete that, then re-Save the Show as "Save As" and re-create the Exe File without the missing Image ?...You will now have your Show running again without that Image and that 'pesky' mesage. Brian.Conflow.

Guys, Here below is a 'demonstration' of what I was talking about:- Same Photo, 2 different Filenames...but look identical. (1) pic-jpeg (2) pic-JPEG PTE would recognise these as two different Photographs. It depend's which way you have Windows set-up, whether to allow Windows to use upper and lower cases for Filenames and whether to allow 'full-extensions' to Filenames which are normally deliniated by the "full.stop" but that depends if you are using the full file extension in the 1st instance. In our Workshops we use this technique when we are editing ANY origional File when we dont want accidental changes to the (parent) origional File....simply change the extension to upper/lower case as the situation warrants ~ without changing the Filename and the added confusion which that causes. This may be the problem which Wideangle is talking about, and another thing, it is very dangerous to use 'full.stop' in Filenames, for example:- My.Holiday ~ it should be My-Holiday or My_Holiday. Always use hyphen or underscore, as the 'full.stop' is usually a reserved Windows character. Brian.Conflow.

Wideangle, No problem there, Pte will recognise 2 different Filenames because they are different !!! Title1:- pic.jpeg Title2:- pic.JPEG Two different Files ~ one with 'lower-case' characters the other with 'capital characters' consequently the Ascii Codes will be different ~ so 2 different Filenames. Xahu34, Greetings from Dublin, I regularily visit Munich for the "Christkindefest" and this year we might have some Snow~ I agree with you, Bombadier should not have published his Reg-Key on the Forum but all 'New Members' make mistakes and I'm sure Igor will contact him and rectify that security breach. Its also the reason I changed the 'Key' so as not to repeat his mistake.I hope he was able to get his Program going with the Instructions given. Brian.Conflow. Dublin.

Pierre, Installing REG Key Highlight RegKey ~then~ Copy and Paste 'RegKey' into "Notepad" see example below - Save As.... REGEDIT4.....Now Drag & Drop "Notepad REGEDIT" into PTE Program Folder. Close PTE Program and then Restart it.... Brian.Conflow (RegKey Notepad example below was changed for security reason) REGEDIT.txt

Paul, For simple:- Forward-Backward-JumpOut-JumpBack-Run ExternalExe-Return and the "guarantee" that it will run on ALL Windows Operating Systems that you are likely to encounter in your daily work, I suggest PTE 4.48 which is available from the WnSoft Site. (PC's will need at least 68mB of User Ram) And yes,it is single 'click' operation. PTE 5.01 is designed for more advanced PCs with lots of User Memory (Ram) with a good Graphics Card and faster Processors such as the Dual-Core types. PTE 5.01 also contains a 4.48 Engine designed for slower Computers but all the "utilities" which you want are not yet fully activated therin. You can 'upgrade' from V4.48 to V5.10 when these utilities become available. May I suggest to start with 4.48 as you want to get working, and it also sets many "ground-rules" which you will need to become familiar with before using the more advanced V5.00 ~ V5.10. Best of luck... Brian.Conflow.

Paul C, Yes, I understand your question concerning...'overkill'....but bear with me for a while because I like you, am engaged in 'Lecture Presentations' of a fairly complex nature. I have to present:- Reports, Engineering Drawings, Circuit Diagrams and downloads from Electronic Data Loggers and to do that efficiently I use 'Pictorial-Images' of everything, even Word Documents and Pdf's, including data for Video Conferences. Quite frankly 'Power-Point' is cumbersome, unweildly, difficult to annotate and edit, and IS NOT universal enough to work on every Computer. I know,I have been there and it simply won't do the job's I want it to do ! PTE 4.48 has never failed me in the past 3 years - It does what I want, when I want. With V4.48 you can do a Manual-Lecture (like old Slide-Show) even jump from the program and run a Pdf - then continue- then jump out again and do something else. Try that with 'Power Point' ~ not a hope. PTE is so flexible and universal and it can be sent as an EMail Attachment or to a Video Conference or put on a Web Site or simply downloaded to a Hosting Site and let your client pick it up. You can put it on a CD or DVD and load it on to a Memory-Pen but MOST IMPORTANT you have absolute control of the Presentation and its Data Content and how it runs, you can't do that with Power-Point ~ it want's to run you. Hope this convinces you of the sheer flexibility of a truly great Program called PTE... It takes a few hours to master it and there are many Tutorials available. Brian.Conflow.

Hi Barry, Looks to me as if they don't know how to download your File or where to Save it.... I presume its a Zip File ? Error As:..in module C:\Documents & Settings\Temp\wz463e\Demo1.exe Read of address xxx... It seems to be going into a IE Temp Folder, usually these will only accept a Web Link, a HTML File,a PostScript or a (self-extractor) CAB File ~they won't accept an Exe for obvious system security reasons.....Tell them to save it to the Desktop..... Bob and Stevie, Bob you wrote..."I'm still confused. I use 1024 x768. I need several dvd's for people, should I size and burn at 4:3 and another at 16:9. I have been using 4:3 and find it crops on my non widescreen".... Guys ~ This is a very simple issue which I made as clear as possible in my origional Conflow Posting ~ (The 1st reply to Stevie in this thread). We are talking about two Industries:- The TV Industry and the Audio/Video Industry. Both Industries are adopting the "Wide Screen Format" which is 16:9 size ratio (soon to be 16:10). Our old (in-use) A/V Format is the 4:3 size ratio and it certainly won't fill a Wide Screen. Like all Standards there is an adoption 'change-over period' where we are given time to adapt to the new Standard. There is no "Converter" to change one Format to the another and visa-versa, but Image Editors are available which will "auto-crop" the old 1024x768 to the new 1280x800 size. Like it or not, you have to make 2 Copies of your A/V Show:- 1xNormal Size and 1xWide Screen. The choice is yours as most DVD Burn-Programs offer you the choice's anyway. Thats the price we pay for progress......Why not burn both copies on to the DVD ? Brian.Conflow.

Stevie, There has been a lot of recent discussion about this on the Forum and I also have been 'experimenting' with Pte on Wide Screen TV's. You may not know that the standard PC Monitor Format is the IEEE Standard of 1024x768 pixels which was adopted by Microsoft and the Television Industry many many years ago. (Thats a 4:3 ratio ~ relative size Format) For the past 4 years the IEEE Society and the TV.Industry and Microsoft have been discussing the adoption of a 2nd Standard to suit Wide Screen TV's and the new breed of Wide Screen PC.Monitors. It looks almost certain that they will adopt 1280x800 pixel as the 2nd Standard thats a 16:10 Format compared to the existing TV 16:9 ratio ~ 1280x720 pixels. (A small difference). Try 'experimenting' with 1280x800 pixels (Pte Windows Mode) and try that on your Wide Screen TV and on a Wide Screen PC Monitor. 1280x800 is approx: (16.66" x 11.10" inches) this is whats called a 'generic-ratio' and larger Screens will automatically resize to this ratio, so will smaller W-Screens. Hope this is of some help... Brian.Conflow.

Igor, I just remembered something that was 'bugging' me ~ my problem's really started within the past 3/4 months after we had 3 or 4 Microsoft "Windows Upgrades" Could there be a possible connection with the PTE problem and those Upgrades ? If memory serves me correctly we had a few "defective" upgrades within the Year and there may be a possible link with these somewhere. It's just a thought ! Brian.Conflow.
-
Hi Igor, I don't want to confuse the issue ~ I use Pte 4.48 and other different Exe's. It happens with Pte4.48 and the Invision-Board and with other "packaged" Exe's. I use Norton-Executive and IE6-Sp2 and in my case (for some unknown reason) it only effects those Programs which are "stand-alone" self-executing Exe's. I don't loose any data nor does the 'switch-off' effect the forced closed Programs. Personally I think its to do with their "Over-The-Top" Microsoft Security run times arising from their (imposed) "OTT" Validation Certificates Program. I appreciate their efforts in making their OP.Systems more secure, but I wish they would get their act together and quit their "OTT" approach and realise that they don't control the Worlds PC Industry. They would make more friends if they did that. Here is an example:- IE-7 was refusing to run established (Java) 'Data-Calculator Programs' from Philips & Siemens & Motorola and Linear Technologies despite using the Sun-Java 1.4 Plug-In which they suggested as they can no longer use the Sun-Java engine. These people are big, big, big Corporations ~ and what a job I had getting rid of IE-7 and reverting back to IE-6. I still have this (small) problem, but I can live with it.... Hope this helps. Brian.Conflow.

Geoff, By any chance did you have your Web Browser (open) active in the Taskbar ? Many times I have had a similar problem like yours with the Browser open in the Taskbar. When going from an (open) Program-Exe to another application IE6 closes the open Program...I have never figured out why it does this ! Brian.Conflow.

Ken, Yep, I know that AV.Forum and have used it in the past and I just had a quick visit to that thread in the Link you provided and it looks as if my previous calculation of 4:1 was just about correct for the EU. At the end of the day, it really is down to the "goodness" of the TV viewers eyesight, despite what the boffins say. So in reality I think we should take the advice as being a good general "yardstick" rather than a Technical Spec. cast in stone. (3:1 for 525 Systems and 4:1 for 625 Systems) Brian.
-
Ken, Thats seems a good simple way of calculating 'viewing distance' for 525 Line NTSC Systems thats USA etc;... In EU Land we use 625 Line Pal System and 1000 Line HD (French) and as the definition is some +20% better and Luminance is much higher ~ I expect we should use a 4:1 ratio. So for a 24" Set we should use a viewing distance of (96") or 8.Ft ~ that seems just about right for our TV Systems and the general publics' choice of TV/Room sizes here. I agree with you about a Wall-Monitor for the Camera Club. They might they have a Wall-TV as most Clubs have these days ~ however they will probably need a PC Monitor for Editing etc: Brian.Conflow.

AAAhh Shucks Stu, I had to be diplomatic.. Brian.

Igor, As you said..."I shouldn't say this and maybe it will sound incorrectly, but Windows Vista contains too many problems, unfortunately, this one problem with PicturesToExe is only a drop in a ocean of other problems with other programs. Windows Vista has a very good potential and ideas, but they changed too much in short time without enough beta-testing..."unquote. Igor I agree with you, we at Conflow Services are involved with complex Data Electronics for Irish Railways. Our other family Company 'Micronetwks' writes Software Applications for (Hi-Tech) Pharmaceutical Corporations. Both family companies were forced to drops Vista because it proved unreliable in "real-world" business applications. This situation was made worse by the premature introduction of 'so-called' Vista compatible Computers and various new generation 'Plug-an-Play' devices. Then Vistas "OTT" (interlocked) Security System which blocks 'specially-written' Solutions Software from operating which previously had ran on XP-Pro. This was too much for our Clients, the rest is history. Yes, too quick, too soon, not enough "Beta Testing", and ignoring the Computer Industry has brought a potentially wonderful Operating System to its knees...hopefully in time they will listen to their Corporate Clients and Industry and replace 'Vista 95' with 'Vista XP'. Then we will really see something....time will tell. Igor,I really do appreciate the problems you are having with this OP.System ~ so did we in our field of 'Application Engineering' with Data Acquisition Systems and Control Software. Brian.Conflow.

Peter, It's nice to hear that your ATI-Radeon 1300 is also working well ~ it might not be the top of the range ~ but having done more research, it sure is very 'stable' compared to 'Nvidias GeForce 8600' which is giving an amount of headache here in Ireland all of which are Driver related. Changing or getting New Drivers into the thing is an absolute nightmare. Brian.Conflow.
-
Colin, You are absolutely correct....bring it back and get 'Vista Home Premium' or 'XP-Pro' Thank god you didn't fall into the 'Vista Home Basic' trap. It's about time Suppliers realised that Consumers are not going to accept a "dodgy" Operating System and 're-accept' the debacle of the '98 and '98se fiasco. It's not as if they don't know that Microsoft have a Vista problem, and in fairness to Microsoft they acknowledged their problem and have tried to ameliorate the situation but Suppliers are still being less than honest in their dealings with the Public. Brian.Conflow.

Ken & Carol, Well Ken there's another satisfied customer ! ~ "just joking Carol"...I'm pleased that the Radeon Card is working well for you ~ I'm gonna bookmark that fact because so many have problems with VGA Cards. Best of luck with PTE.5XX, its a great Program. Brian.Conflow. PS. Ken thanks for the assurance on the VGA Card.
-
Carol, Just in case Igor did not read your last Post may I make a suggestion that you EMail him and ask if the "Radeon 1300 Graphics Card" is suitable for Pte.5XX. Perhaps Ken Cox might know ? Brian.Conflow.
-
Carol, You see from the responses to your origional Post there are always "Tricks of the Trade" with everything ~ and I might add ~ that those responses were gained after many hard hours of labour which shows the dedication of Forum Members to the PTE.Program. One word of caution:- If you are thinking of changing to PTE.5XX make sure your Computer is actually up to the 'specifications' demanded of Pte.5 ~ many are not suitable. May I suggest that you Post a brief Tech.Description of your PC giving the following:- * Processor Type and Speed. * Make & Type of Graphic Card used. * Size of the Hard-Disc Drive. * Amount of 'User Memory' (RAM) available. Some 'Forum Members' experienced in using PTE5XX will advise you of the PCs' suitability. Hope this is of some help... Brian.Conflow.

Carol, Yes "Limey" has the correct approach ~ there is an 'anomaly' in the Pte.4 Series of Programs in that it was designed to have the Text within the Buttons and then the Buttons should be 'best-placed' on the Object Image after reviewing their size and relative positions in various Screen Sizes. Avoid 'Text' placed over/under Buttons. I adjust the 'positions' to suit one Screen size (above) 1024x768 and the other Screen size (below) 1024x768. The size 1024x768 being the Standard IEEE Size. This works well for Monitor sizes:- 12" to 21" You're 'Wide Screen' problem is a tricky one ~ some users create a 'Black Screen' of sufficient size to cover the Wide Screen Format and then paste their Images on to multiple copies of the Black Screen. In this way you will have a Black Border around your Images, at least its better than seeing the sides of the Desktop. Brian.Conflow.

Tom, Note:- My comments below concern Tests with 'Vista Home Basic' solely. Tom, I would take your point, that Shows created with PTE 5xx on the 'Vista Op.System' should work perfectly on ALL versions of Vista, this raise a few questions:- * Will Pte.5xxx Creations work properly on "Vista Home Basic".....I have not Tested that ? * Pte.Members have Shows created in Pte.4.48 which should work on 'Vista Home Basic' like they did on all previous Windows Operating Systems...thats the problem, they don't, but they seem to work OK with Premium and Business versions...why ? This is absolutely nothing to do with the Pte.Program because other Graphic Programs are having the same problem with 'Vista Home Basic' and we cant ignore the Microsofts Paper on the problem...it exists. We cant expect Pte.Users and millions of other Graphic Users to "duplicate" their Programs and their Shows in Microsoft Vista when the origionals were created on another Microsoft Windows System....otherwise there is no such thing as cross-compatibility with Windows. Fairly or unfairly ~ no wonder so many PC Users are moving over to MAC's. Brian.Conflow.
