Davy I loved the atmosphere created by this sequence. A steady flow off textures, complimented by touches of reality, and to my ear enhanced by the music. A keeper as Ken has often said. What and by whom was the music? Geoff

Ken I have in mind to do another slideshow of that area, which doesn't concentrate on the beck, so you may get your wish. Mickp No you won't be alone, it's the one type of shot that tends to split photographers into two distinct camps those who like them and those that don't. Personally I can appreciate both, and as it's a very fast moving beck, I thought the slow shutter speed worked, however it would be a very grey world if we all liked the same. Thanks to you and Ken for your views. Geoff

Rydal Beck (river) runs through the grounds of Rydal Hall in the english Lake District. When I was there last November I took lots of slow shutter speed shots, trying to capture the essance of the river. Details 1200 x800 30mb download 3mins 13 seconds duration. Comments welcome, download Here Geoff

Final update on the speakers, and cables needed to make everything work. Speakers 2 Behringer B208D Eurolive Active PA Speaker Cables and adaptors from laptop to speakers 1 Audio Adaptor 6.35mm (1/4 INCH) Jack Socket to 3.5mm Jack Plug (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro%C2%AE-Professional-Quality-Plated-Adaptor/dp/B004XU9BHG/ref=acc_glance_ce_ai_ps_t_2) 1 Jack 6.3mm (1/4") Extension Lead (10M)(http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?productid=590&cat=768&page=6) 1 6.35mm Stereo Jack Male To 2 x RCA Phono Female (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/19516178/Cable-Tex-6-35mm-Stereo-Jack-Male-To-2-x-RCA-Phono-Female/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518%7Ccat:19516178%7Cprd:19516178) 1 Phono (Left and Right) Audio Cable (2Mtrs) (http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/products/1744/high_quality_2_x_phono_(left_and_right)_audio_cable/) 2 RCA Phono Socket to Large 6.35mm 6.35 mm 1/4 inch Jack Adapter - Mono (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003OSO222) The results are everything I wished for superb sound and enough power to fill the biggest hall I'm likely to go to. Once again many thanks for all your help, especially Davy's input it's much appreciated. The last thing to sort is the volume contol, but I will use the one on the UCA 202 for now. Many thanks Geoff

Thanks Davy I appreciate all your help. Regards Geoff

Thanks once again for your input Davy, I've been searching online for a ready made cable as quoted above but haven't been able to find one suitable. Do you know of any online suppliers who do them? Many thanks Geoff
-
I have used the UCA 202 usb device for about 18 months now, and they are very good. However the volume control is a bit fiddly to operate and also only works if you use the headphone output rather than the RCA outputs. I don't have enough knowlege to say whether the RCA outputs are better than the Headphone outputs or not. Hopefully someone with more knowlege could offer some insight into this. Now off to search for cables, on which topic, Davy can you tell me if these speakers would be OK with an 8mtr cable run (depending on cable quality of course)? I like to sit at the side of my audience, so I can talk to them rather than the backs of their heads so 8mtrs is more than adequate. Geoff
-
Thanks once again for your input Davy, Eric has posted a link to a pdf document on these speakers in one of his post's in this thread which is usefull. What would you consider to be the maximum cable run to these speakers? I usually sit to the side of my audiance so I can face them rather than talk to the back of their heads, so a cable run of around 8mtrs is as much as I need. Is that OK assuming good cable? If I understand you correctly I need a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack from the laptop, to some form of left and right channel splitting with 1/4 inch jacks. Is that correct? The only reason for using a mixer is to be able to control or alter the volume during playback of the slideshows, without resorting to altering the laptop volume, unless you know of a readily available simple inline volume control. I appreciate all the advice you have given in this thread. Many thanks Geoff
-
Well finally bit the bullet and purchased a pair of Behringer B208D Eurolive Active PA Speakers, I'll let you know how I get on with them. Now starting to look at mixers. Thanks for all the advice, I may be back for more :) Geoff
-
Thanks for all the info. Eric, thanks for the link, I was aware that it's a single speaker price, so buying two is a reasonable investment hence trying to get as much info as possible. Davy do you know what cables would be suitable for these speakers? Geoff
-
These are the one's I've been considering Here but given the price I want to be sure before I commit. Has anyone any experiance of this type of speaker? Geoff

What speaker systems are recommended these days for slideshow presentations in reasonable sized halls? Happy New Year to all Geoff
-
Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year to Igor and all the Wnsoft team, and to all PTE forum members. Best wishes Geoff

i always use "run slideshow with return" from my menu's when I do slideshow evenings, as the desk top is not visible to the audiance at all, apart from when the computer first boot's. For this system to work everything needs to be created with the same PTE version. I now have around 50 shows, which takes about 30 mins or so to re-create the exe's when a new version comes out. Although it's a bit of a pain, it's only once in a while it has to be done. For me the use of a menu system presents a much better way of running an evening, and also advertises the fact that you have more work available for a return visit. Geoff
-
Maggiemay, just keep in mind for menu's to work correctly eveything must be created with the same version of PTE. Therefore if you update from say 7.02 to 7.03 and create one new slideshow using version 7.03, which you wish to add to your menu, all existing slideshows must have their .exe files re-created using version 7.03 in order that the whole system continues to work together. Hi Peter I take your point, but I can assure you that Comodo is anything but silent if there is any kind of threat, and like you I am confident that my system is very well protected. I put forward comodo as a free alternative to anyone who is having trouble with AVG and might like to try an alternative solution. I have also found that comodo is less demanding on the system and there is no speed hit that I am able to detect. I cannot say this for versions of AVG I have used in the past. I have been using comodo for the last two years, and thus far it has been trouble free. Regards Geoff
-
With all the problems it causes why do people continue to use AVG, when there are far better solutions available such as Comodo http://download.cnet.com/Comodo-Internet-Security/3000-2239_4-10460704.html (free)

A different take on Remembrance
stonemason replied to Howard Bagshaw's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
Howard Probably the best AV presentation I have ever seen, absolutely stunning and very moving. Geoff -
intro panel with buttons not working
stonemason replied to marie-laure's topic in General Discussion
Hi marie-laure something else to bear in mind if you are using run and return from you intro page buttons, the intro page and ALLthe slideshows must be created with the same version of PTE. For existing shows this just means opening the PTE files with the current version and re-creating the .exe files. Geoff -
Hi Barry If you do consider an alternative then I can recommend COMODO Internet security http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php it's free and an AV and firewall complete package. I have been using it for about 2 years and am more than satisfied. regards Geoff
-
Hi Xaver I tried what you suggested, but when the next slide appears the sound file stops. Regards Geoff
-
Hi Ken the slide is not duplicated it's 3 different pictures of the same bird, and I want the sound to carry on playing when I change the slides manually.
-
In a manually controlled slideshow is there any way of spreading a sound file over two or more slides? For example if slide 1 is a picture of a species of bird, and has a recording of that birds song attached to it, and the following two slides are different pictures of the same bird. Is there a way of spreading the sound over 3 slides, bearing in mind this is a manually driven slideshow. I know how to achive this with an auto slide show where each slide has a fixed duration, but with a manual show the time on screen can vary from showing to showing.

Making opacity an inheritable attribute
stonemason replied to fh1805's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
In my opinion the the help files, and documentation for this whole area of PTE needs a radical update. I can well imagine a new user trying to get their head around all this, coming to this forum and thinking we were speaking a different language. For any product to be successful it needs to capture it's customers within a short time of the opening the box. I fear that the most creative area's of PTE may fail to do that purely through a lack of information available to new users from within the software. Geoff -
