  1. Hi Fujiboy Glad you found the solution, hope you can now enjoy all the shows Mike Mersea Island
  2. The other day reading threads I came across references to 'Freeze Frame' and I went to look at it again and it had expired. I also checked my uploaded 'Fields of Fire' and it too had a death date on it, 20th March. I have now removed this and the show on Beechbrook is now clear again. Mike Mersea Island
  3. Well Jim has been a busy busy bee. It is a honey of a show. When I first downloaded it, I wanted to see it straight away so I played it on my internet machine (PII 333 Celeron and I was impressed. (But the ending was all out) Today I played it on my P4 1.7 256MB and it was stunning! A definite HUM-dinger of a show Pleasure to watch, many thanks Mike Mersea Island
  4. I did a show with MP3pro at 64 compression and it saved a lot of space and was still very good quality and still plays back ok on PTE. Ask if you need details. Mike Mersea Island
  5. Personally EVERY audience I have showed to over 25 years wants a break between individual shows, (they need to grasp what they have seen, show their appreciation- thats 1 reason why we do it-) and I too, as the presenter require a short break! Each show needs a gap else how can the audience appreciate each presentation? The very thought of running show after show without a pause is actually quite appalling............seems likes adverts!!!!! So this idea about running the next show immediately I think is negative, yes a blank screen etc etc but let the audience dictate the space between shows not the presenter. Progamming pre determined gaps is denying any audience their feeling. IMHO Mike Mersea Island
  6. Wendy Missed PS I then use the files from the 'make cd' directory to actually burn the CD, you then know all is fine and in one place and your are working with copies not originals Mike Mersea Island
  7. Hi Wendy Tripstrilles is correct here and the method of saving is the cause of the problem. Also before I ever burn a CD I always create all the necessary files in a directory called Make CD (it can be called anything you want) and I then check that all is ok by either dbl clicking on the autoexec file or go to start, run, browse, then browse to the above named directory and click on the autoexec file and then run it. This way you are checking that all is working correctly before you start wasting CD's and getting frustrated. Regards Mike Mersea Island
  8. Today, saturday I was working on a presentation and I could not get out by ESC, it too was 1024 * 768. Also I have found not to have the video card set to 32 bit. it creates havoc. Mike Mersea Island
  9. Thanks Ken That tells me how to upload my mugshot Mike
  10. Thanks Lumenlux thats what I was searching for Mike Mersea Island
  11. By the way how do we add our photos to show other members our best side? (If I have a best side?) Mike Mersea Island
  12. "What would you say to a beginner who is attempting his first presentation? Details or big thing that makes the difference..." The most important think to think of is PRESENTATION and not SLIDE SHOW. Express your feelings as best you can Mike Mersea Island
  13. Years ago I solved this problem so that it worked The square on the hypotenuse Its now even easier with computer software, you can make a transtition from vertical to horizontal (or the other way about) Edit the same or similiar fade pic either way into a square, (got to be a pic that will work) fade to the other orientation. Obviously dont keep changing all the time but you can move from one orientation to the other as both VISUALS and MUSIC dictates for the impact of your show. (But probably no more than 2 times in 1 show) Also the gates fade (vertical and horziontal to and from centre) in PTE can be used to change the aspect without the viewer being fully away of the visual change that one has achieved. (thats psychological) I always stand behind my audience and observe their reactions, then use the results to fine tune the show. Mike Mersea Island
  14. YES Igor has added so much with so little, he must be thanked Mike Mersea Island
  15. Michel Yes indeed with a video projector it is an entirely different matter and one does need the best possible quality. Mike Mersea Island
  16. Yes Lumenlux that is the point and it is all about communication, flash or funny, simple or complex, lets just cummunicate, as you said about my fields of fire weeks ago. Mike Mersea Island
  17. Oui Michel Compression does that, that is what it is about, but a show over the internet is about sharing and presentation, and to give others the joy of your own feeling. In all my shows the original pictures are of far better quality, and I would print them in better quality. BUT I would much prefer lots of people to see the idea, yes the idea, and share rather than worry too much about the the quality which can never never be as good as you have it on your system. Michael Mersea Island
  18. As others on the forum would agree file sizes of about 100 to 150Kb are ideal in terms of quality of speed of operation. Try to aim for that and see if your are happy with the quality Mike Mersea Island
  19. All comments re version 4 seem are correct my last 2 shows on beechbrook were done with beta 4 v 6 and work fine Mike Mersea Island
  20. Hi Harold Thanks for your reply. The slides ended 1.1 secs before the music. It did not actually drift slowly out, all my check points are still spot on, it is just during the final section, which is complex, but did run fine on the slow creation machine. No not using internal player. Just moved the pte files and remade the exe. I had just added 1.1 secs to the end of show on the old slow machine, so it then ran correct on the other machines, but overran on the origination machine. It just seems to be if I create on this slow machine, actually it’s the one I connect to the net too, so it is separate from my major machine that this timing variation appears. If I create on my fastest machine, then its fine on any machine. My Fields of Fire which is 16 mins long and has 5 precise and specific transitions in the last 27 secs runs perfectly ok with no drift at all on all machines but was made on the fastest machine. It’s quite bewildering, obviously it’s not a problem for me as I have the facility to make shows on several different machines, but it does intrigue me. I thought it an interesting discussion point. I still think that the celeron with less cache memory on the cpu seems to be the major cause. Many thanks Mike
  21. Along the same lines it would be handy to select a group of files to copy and paste at the same time. I presume if PTE is developing batch work then the above will be available. It would make animation production so much easier. Mike Mersea Island
  22. STUNNING Talk about a light show! Mike Mersea Island
  23. I have for the past few weeks been working on a show and it seems appropriate to give some background because it is all about timing. The show like my Fields of Fire is in fact quite old, but the discovery of PTE has started me going all over again. (There will be a new show about Prague after I go in May) I started programming the show on PTE V3.8 on a P4, 1.7, then more and more betas starting arriving. I did not want to confuse matters so I installed V4 beta 5 on a different machine, a PII, 333 Celeron, and continued the programming on that machine. Programming turned out to be far easier than before, due to two factors, 1 preview from any point, and 2 being able to zoom in on the timeline (excellent upgrades). When finished and the show was in perfect synch I was very pleased until I played it back on the first P4 machine, it was 1.1 seconds adrift. I then tried it out on another machine, a PII, 333 normal Intel, it was also 1.1 seconds out. I took the easy way out and added the 1.1 secs on the celeron machine which then meant that that machine was out, but both the others were spot on. I then started to experiment. I then redid the show on the normal 333 Intel machine, and it then plays ok on all 3 machines. The only difference between the 2 slower machines being that one is a celeron and thus has less cache memory, CPU speed is the same and so is RAM. (any thoughts on this aspect?) I would be interested to hear if the show runs correctly on other machines, the ending will give it away if its out. The 2 shows are slightly different in length and have different synch problems, also the French soundtrack was originally 19 seconds longer, I cut 6 seconds from the introduction only then changed the speed by 5% without changing the pitch (Cool Edit 2000) to give me a similar time to work with. By the way I had heard the English words first and thought I have to do a show to that, unfortunately 22 years ago it was impossible to get the record in England. However when I was in Berlin and saw this carousel I had to take the pictures and keep them ready for the day I got the music. I did 8 days later on my final day in Berlin! Since then I have bought Jacques Brel’s records wherever I could and my biggest source was La Reunion in the Indian Ocean. This year is the 25th anniversary of his death and I would like to go to some of the celebrations that are going on. These 2 shows are my bit of celebration. Thanks to Igor’s excellent program Mike Mersea Island
  24. Actually Project name is correct. Because that is what we are working on, and then we can save and/or change file names or project names within PTE. Its not a problem once you realise how it works. My latest show just need a change of names and project name, 2 shows 1 go Mike Mersea Island
  25. I too was wondering, then I log on tonight (day)??, whenever, and I see our senior members all have the same thought! Mike Mersea Island
